Fleeced: How Barack Obama, Media Mockery of Terrorist Threats, Liberals Who Want to Kill Talk Radio, the Do-Nothing Congress, Companies That Help Iran, and Washington Lobbyists for Foreign Governments Are Scamming Us ... and What to Do About Itx$14.79
    (196 reviews)
Best Price: $26.95 $14.79
Here are the facts: The United States has released 425 terrorists from Guantánamo, at least 50 of whom have returned to the battlefield to fight our troops. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both say they're fiscally responsible. But each has called for $1 trillion in tax increases over the next ten years—and dressed them up as tax cuts! Mainstream Media has been given marching orders from the Society of Professional Journalists: never refer to "Islamic terrorists" or "Muslim terrorists." And they are obeying! Whenever our brave agents disrupt a terror plot, The media dismisses the culprits as a gang of idiots—lulling us into a false sense of security. If the liberals win the 2008 election, they will cripple talk radio—forcing stations to give equal time to left-wing programs, and insisting that liberals play a key role in station management. Up to a quarter of all state pension funds in the United States are invested in companies that are helping Iran, Syria, North Korea, or the Sudan—for a total of nearly $200 billion. The Do-Nothing Congress is still doing nothing—and the worst offenders are the presidential candidates Clinton, Obama, and McCain, who never show up for their day jobs as senators . . . except to pick up their $165,000 paycheck! Is it any wonder that Americans feel fleeced at every turn? As more and more critical problems develop that need national attention, the White House and Congress appear to be AWOL. Who's calling the shots instead? Big business, big government, big labor, and big lobbyists. And their self-serving agendas are doing nothing to help the ever-increasing number of American people who are losing their homes, paying credit card interest rates higher than 25 percent, and finding their jobs increasingly outsourced to foreign countries. In this hard-hitting call to arms, Dick Morris and Eileen McGann reveal the hundreds of ways American tax-payers are routinely fleeced—by our own government; by foreign countries like Dubai that are gobbling up American interests and spending millions to influence government decisions and American public opinion; by Washington lobbying firms that are pushing the agendas of corrupt foreign dictators on Capitol Hill; and by hedge-fund billionaires collecting huge tax breaks courtesy of the IRS. With their characteristic blend of sharp analysis and insider insight, Morris and McGann call offenders of all kinds on the carpet—and offer practical agendas we all can follow to help turn the tide.

Spot on Dick Morris. By A23US54A0OILE4 on 2008-06-24
Let me start out by saying I'm not convinced Dick Morris is a right wing anything. After all he served President Clinton during his administration. I suspect that what is happening is that individuals are aligning themselves as Conservatives and Liberals regardless of party names.
Fleeced is an indictment of large government and idiotic ideas and not a lambasting of democrats or petting of republicans. Whether it's a Congress who can't or won't get anything done or a government that is so grid locked that neither sides wants to give in first, Fleeced deals with the problem in an even handed way. Dick Morris is a consumate insider in Washington. I find his reasoning to be dead on.
Morris contends that 425 terrorists have been released from Gitmo and that 50 of those have been retaken or killed in Iraq. I heard that the figure was close to 100. I suspect the time lag is at work here, but the fact of the matter is that many of the detainees are infact combatants...perhaps all of them.
Is Fleeced a right wing manifesto? No. Morris is very even handed in his criticism. He indicts McCain for not showing up for his day job just as hard at he slams Clinton and Obama. He goes after all of Congress, Democtat and Republican.
I still have some reading to do to finish Fleeced. I've bounced around from chapter to chapter. Suffice it to say that if you're not upset after reading Fleeced I can't imagine why.
I highly recommend Fleeced to anyone who cares for this country.
Peace always
Ignore the 1 stars By A1H9RUA4OCSX1H on 2008-06-25
Look at the problems those with 1 star reviews list: Dick Morris isn't a socialist liberal. They never find a valid fault with the book, only the man who wrote it. They ignore the fact Mr. Morris has worked with both Republican and Democrat candidates (President Clinton for example).
Now onto the book. Fleeced is very well researched, and very entertaining. The book focuses on multiple issues without spending too much or too little time on any individual topic, and none of the topics lack adequate research. I highly recommend this book to those who are unsure on whether or not to vote for Obama, as well as those who just enjoy educating themselves on modern politics.
HE KNOWS THE NUANCES OF OUR SYSTEM. By A1IHT31N8RLPN8 on 2008-07-15
This 337 page book is a glaring testament to irrational ideas & policies that are hurting our country across the spectrum of politics, economics, social, & commercial issues. This book is a warning not a tirade.
He bashes both Republicans & Democrats, & Liberals & Conservatives with equal gusto. It should be noted that he has worked for folks of both parties as a political consultant, so those who accuse him of being a "right or left wing nut" are just showing their own ideological biases.
He hits President Bush, the Supreme Court, the whole Congress, crooked lenders, lobbyists working for foreign countries, credit card companies, hedge fund billionaires who are getting tax breaks from the IRS, Halliburton's war profiteering, & John McCain, Hillary Clinton, & Barack Obama for not showing up for their day jobs. He asks a poignant question as pertains to Congress. Why do they get $167,500 a year when they often don't even address the problems & issues facing the country?
His take on the attempts of terrorists in the USA that have been stopped since 9/11/01 was intriguing. One of these men that was released from Gitmo was a Taliban leader who went back to fighting the USA in Afghanistan.
He is also very concerned about the large numbers of teachers leaving their profession, while education is getting far less money than healthcare. Which is likely to remain the case for the foreseeable future since the baby boomers are or are near retirement age. All in all a very detailed & eye opening book.
Would be better if Morris wasn't so hugely biased against Liberals By A2LZW8W1LHO06N on 2008-07-20
This would have been a much better book had Morris stuck to the facts--what he's always been good at. However, he opens the book with a hugely speculative chapter on how an Obama presidency would ruin this country by taxing everyone who earns over $100,000 (which would, curiously, put Morris in that category--no wonder he's terrified). He uses the word "liberal" and "democrat" freely whenever he wants to point blame at the system, but he never uses the word "Republican" or "conservative" when it's so obviously a Republican who's at fault. Here's an example. He cites a lazy (Democrat-led) congress for blame for the credit card disaster that's put so many millions of average Americans into a ton of debt. But he doesn't lay the blame where it should be laid. First of all it was Republican Senator Phil Gramm who engineered in the 1990s (along with a Newt Gringrich-led, Republican dominated Congress) the rise of the credit card industry by outlawing usury laws and making it easier for ANY bank to offer credit cards, not just the five or six highly capitalized banks that had the monopoly for years. Gramm and Gingrich both got congress to deregularize the entire credit card industry, thus allowing now for rates that most scholars think fall into the category of usury: rates of 20% to 30%. That Congress during the Bush administration hasn't acted to correct this situations puts the blame at THEIR feet, not the feet of the democrats.
He also says that the "Bush Recovery" has worked with banks and corporation profits soaring during this decade (profits up about 49%) and he so fears a rise in taxes not only for the wealthy but for corporations. He clearly doesn't want to tax capital. He says nothing about where taxes will have to come from: labor and wages. That's us. You and me. Most Republicans don't like capital taxed (they claim it's necessary for growth and business). But it's okay for wages and labor to be taxed because they are mostly Democrats and of the middle or lower classes. This is complete Republican thinking. Tax wages, don't tax capital.
What Morris hasn't the courage to do is to put the blame where it squarely lies: on BOTH the shoulders of the Republicans AND the Democrats. The Republicans for being greedy; the Democrats for being complicit and lazy. He never ONCE suggests that the political donor class--which is mostly, though not entirely, Republican--is the cause of the easy laws in congress or that the Bush tax cut has been catastrophic for this country. Mostly, Morris fears the taxes that are going to HAVE to be raised during the next administration. He fears it and his extraordinary venom toward Democrats belies the truth: Bush drained so much liquid capital from the economy though his tax giveaways (and a trillion dollar war that he's refused to pay for on his watch) that there isn't any real money to run the government (payment on the interest of the debt will be 10% by the middle of the next decade--a fact that Bush created and that Morris doesn't seem have any interest in reporting). This will be the Republican rallying call during this next administration. When Obama (or congress) raises the social security tax ceiling to (perhaps) $150,000 (from the $91,000) where it's at now, watch how the Republicans shout bloody-murder about tax-and-spend liberals robbing from the rich to give to the poor (or give to themselves). Morris says nothing about the borrow-and-spend mentality of the Bush administration (and the Republican congress) or the extraordinary debt we've accrued that will have to be paid off eventually--and no economist, Republican or Liberal, believes that we can "earn" our way out of the debt we've piled up. Business can't do it alone. (But there isn't a Republican anywhere in this country that believes that.)
There's a lot of nastiness in this book and sheer vitriol for all things Democrat and all things liberal. But he does get many of his facts in the other areas right. But both Democrats and Republicans are to blame, and THIS Mr. Morris doesn't have the courage to suggest. It's all to be laid at the feet of the liberals.
Fleeced is Dick Morris' most inportant book!!!!!!! By A386NVAVQV5WUO on 2008-06-24
WOW Fleeced is Dick Morris' (and Eileen McGann's ) best book by a long shot. And This may be a shot heard across the world. hear is a man who us a Moderate democrat who is seeking to set the record straight. There is so much hear I don't know where to start; but I will press on, lets start with Guantanamo, and how important it has been in protecting the USA Morris shows us how 50 (plus) of the prisoners who have been released whom have returned to the battlefield to fight our troops. Proving that we have the right people. This doctrine of treating the prisoners as combatants goes back to WW II where after Germany surrendered some German citizens continue to fight us the US in China. Of course most people in the USA don't know this, its not taught in History anymore.
Morris goes on tot talk about Barack Obama (The DNC's Nominee) and Hillary Clinton (now former presidential contender) both swear they're fiscally responsible. But each has called for $[...] trillion in tax increases over the next ten years, then they have the audacity of hope to claim there cutters.
Morris also find the smoking gun of the a press conspiracy to defend the terrorists, he shows how the Mainstream Media is following the lead of the Society of Professional Journalists: who state at their web site that a reporter should never refer to "Islamic terrorists" or "Muslim terrorists. and also to belittle any terror plot that is stopped before it is carried out, by defining the people as inapt etc., this is mocking our law enforcement and is downright dishonest and even dangerous. remember they way they talked about the shoe bomber, if he succeed 100's would of been dead.
Morris also talks about how the Liberals (becoming more fascistic) want to shut up conservative talk radio with the so called fairness's doctrine, the liberals hate free speech. Just lie their fascists predecessors.
Morris does not just take on Liberals he shows how Big business, big government, big labor, and big lobbyists have both parties in their back pocket and how the American people are being fleeced. He also shows how the speculators are driving up the oil prices and much much more.
This is an important book and I Highly Recommend it to everyone.
- War profiteering and other rip-offs.
     By A1TUDEC66M9FO3 on 2008-06-26
While there is plenty of material in this book that serves the corporatists and the agenda of Lockheed Martin, I'm glad Morris did include a segment on Halliburton's war profiteering. Documentaries like Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers do a good job of going into the details of how executives cash in when we're at war. The fleecing of this country via war-making is something that Eisenhower warned us about. Historic footage of Ike's military industrial complex speech is featured in the film Why We Fight.
I don't agree that liberals want to kill conservative talk radio, although I think most Americans want to kill corporate spin that has co-opted the term "conservative." Some of these PR agents for the business elite have even co-opted the term "Christian." Grand Theft Jesus: The Hijacking of Religion in America
Morris, like any big media celebrity and D.C. insider, should be viewed with a great deal of skepticism. Moreover, I think there are much more powerful criticisms of politicians from figures like Ralph Nader An Unreasonable Man, who was recently interviewed in the Washington Times. Nader gets to the root of our problems, and brings up issues that so many are afraid to touch.
On the larger issue of how the American people are being deceived and ripped off, I'd recommend Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill) and The Corporation.

"Fleeced" is a disappointing exercise in half-truths and manipulations of the truth. For example:
"The U.S. has released 425 terrorists from Guantanamo, at least 50 of whom have returned to the bagttlefield to fight our troops." No comment on the 88% imprisonment error rate, nor the possible causing the 50 deciding to fight as a result of torture at Guantanamo.
"Barack Obama claims he's fiscally responsible. But he's called for $1 trillion in tax increases over the next ten years - and dressed them up as tax cuts. . . . In reality, no American would experience any actual tax cut (under Obama - even though he proposes eliminating the AMD for most, and ending income taxes for the 7 million seniors making less than $50,000/year and providing 150 million others with tax cuts of up to $1,000) The AMD would affect 23 million . . . generate $500 billion in extra tax revenues over the next 5 years."
Americans would be "paying over 60% income in taxes if the Democrats return to power." Here "Fleeced" omits the term "marginal tax rates" and implies the top tax rate takes effect at $97,000 - actually, at $349,701 for a joint return.
"Whenever our brave agents disrupt a terror plot, the media dismisses the culprits as a gang of idiots - lulling us into a false sense of security." The plot to blow up the JFK Airport fuel lines was then cited as such an example. Experts, however, assert that sabotaging part of the fuel system would be highly unlikely to lead to a chain explosion, that jet fuel does not produce an explosive force unless it is under pressure or vaporized, and that pipelines and tanks have safety valves to contain any mishap. Finally, the plotters had no connection to al-Qaeda in the Middle East, had been egged on by an informant, and had been under observation for 16+ months.
Another plot involved cutting the cables on the Brooklyn Bridge. However, experts do not believe that would have accomplished the desired objective - two cables snapped in 1981, without impacting the bridge.
Buyers Beware - buy this book and YOU'LL be FLEECED!
- Some facts, not "I heard that...."
     By ANWL90XNKWV4H on 2008-07-05
There has been a lot of loose talk, from both liberals and conservatives, about what has happened to former Guantanamo detainees, so it is important to be as accurate as possible. Each side is twisting the facts to its own advantage, trying to put its own spin on fairly scanty evidence.
The latest Pentagon "fact sheet" on "former GMTMO detainee terrorist trends," dated June 13, is available here. It states that 37 former Guantanamo detainees are "confirmed or suspected" of having returned to "terrorist activities" since their release. It puts the so-called recidivism rate at "between 5 and 7 percent."
The Pentagon fact sheet names 13 former GITMO prisoners whose participation in various types of terrorist activity has been "confirmed," in most cases because they have been killed or captured on something resembling a battlefield. There is no evidence that any of the 13 killed Americans. The names range from the leader of an al-Qaeda cell in Turkey to Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi, a Kuwaiti citizen who killed 7 people in a suicide bomb attack on Mosul in April. The list includes three Chechens, transferred to Russia and subsequently re-arrested for terrorist activities.
In addition to the "confirmed" terrorists, the Pentagon also cites a figure of 24 former detainees "suspected" of terrorist activity on the basis of "unverified or single-source, but plausible, reporting." None of the names on this list have been published. Without access to the names and other details, it is impossible to tell how many people on the "suspected" list have engaged in terrorist activity since their release from Guantanamo, or how many have tried to attack anything resembling an "American" target.
McCain is wrong to claim that 30 former Guantanamo detainees "have tried to attack America again." While it is true that some of the former detainees named by the Pentagon were involved in attacks against coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is a stretch to claim that Chechen separatists accused of terrorism by the Russian government were trying "to attack America." As for the former detainees merely "suspected" of terrorist activities, we have no information on what they were doing.
It is also wildly inaccurate to claim, as some have done, that at least 30 former Guantanamo detainees have been "killed or captured" on the battlefield, fighting against U.S. forces. Earlier this week, for example, Fox News commentator Dick Morris said that 50 former GITMO detainees had been "killed or captured by our forces" after being released. The Pentagon report lists one former detainee killed while fighting U.S. forces in Afghanistan and one killed by Afghan forces. Another former detainee blew himself up to avoid capture by Pakistani security forces.
It is worth noting that Defense Secretary Robert Gates was a lot less specific than either McCain or Morris when asked back in May how many former detainees had "returned to the battlefield." His reply: "We don't have a lot of specific cases. We're talking about 1, 2, 3 dozen that we have data on, some information."
The other side, meanwhile, has also been loose with the facts. A report co-authored by Mark Denbeaux, a Seton Hall University School of Law professor who represents two of the Guantanamo detainees, claimed that only one former detainee "took up arms against the United States." The Pentagon report lists half a dozen former detainees fighting U.S. or coalition forces in Iraq or Afghanistan.
According to Denbeaux, the Pentagon has included former detainees who spoke out against their treatment at Guantanamo on the suspected terrorist list. A Pentagon spokesman, Commander Jeffrey Gordon, dismissed the Denbeaux report as "misleading," and said that anti-U.S. propaganda activities were not sufficient to warrant inclusion on the list.
This is a complicated and emotional issue, which makes it all the more necessary to be very precise in the definition of terms. It would have been accurate for McCain to have said that the Pentagon has confirmed that 13 former detainees have engaged in some kind of terrorist activity since their release, and suspects another 24 men of being involved in such activity. Instead he said flatly that 30 people who have been released from Guantanamo have "tried to attack America again." There is a significant difference between those two statements. (washpost.com)

For all those of you who are considering buying this book, go to Wikipedia (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Morris) and read the entry first. Read the whole thing. For whatever the faults of Obama and the Clintons, they still are head and shoulders above the Bush administration (I include John McCain now as a Bush clone in thrall to the "no-consequences-to-our-actions" neo-cons). Read the Wiki entry, all of it stuff that's on record, and see how many times Morris got things wrong. He is a gunslinger up for hire to the highest bidder. One of the worst of the bottom-feeders who exalt consumerism as a new religion and who are so cynical they'll do anything, tell any lie (all for the right amount of money) to mold public opinion with naive swing voters, those people who cannot believe that "God-fearing" politicians like Bush, McCain and cronies could possibly be that bad.

20081214 DEPARTED AMAZON WITH OUTRAGE OVER THE MANIPULATION OF VOTES.
Dick Morris is without question one of the most gifted observers of the US scene. He is also one of the laziest.
I no longer pay for his books, having learned that he is the intellectual equivalent of a chef that serves his food in a trash can, but a friend had it, I borrowed it, and with the sense of discomfort that comes from eating out of a trash can, here are a few thoughts.
1) This is another formula book in which 1,000 news items are lined up, darts are thrown, and rhetorical diarrhea comes out. Individually, the items are both well-known to those that read a lot, and very fine for those that do not.
2) This is also a book that puts stuff out in an unbalanced manner, ranting and railing on one thing without noting that we are equally guilty of "the other thing" that is not mentioned. See my chapter notes below.
3) This is an online-source book, the equivalent of a comic book, drawing exclusively from online sources and using so many "ibids" in the notes (not that people who buy such a book would need or both with the notes) as to be irritating.
Here are the chapters with one line comments. I end with an outline of the book I would enjoy helping Dick Morris write--he is capable of it, he just needs structure, disciple, and a bit more seriousness in his life.
1 President Obama: What Would He Do? Extreme left scary story
* Misses the point: NEITHER of the two clowns have a strategy, a policy matrix (Agriculture, Energy, and Water need to be planned together) or a balanced budget to back up their lies.
2 How the Liberal Media Downplays Terrorism. Absolutely correct--Madeline Albright started the deal.
* Ignores the 25 high crimes by Dick Cheney and the 935 documented lies told to the public to falsely connect terrorism to elective war on Iraq
3 Liberal's Secret Plan to Muzzle Talk Radio. Yawn
* Misses corruption of mainstream media, lobbying to close down Internet Radio, and breach between conservatives with a philosophical grounding and brains, and talk radio idiots that give all of us a bad name
4 The Do-Nothing Congress. Tars the Democrats.
* Ignores the reality that both parties are evil, corrupt, and lazy.
5 Foreign Companies, American Pensions, and Iranian Bomb. All true.
* Ignores fact that US sells 5 times more proliferation than Russia, 3 times more than UK, we provided Iraq with bio-chem, and "our" government loves 42 of the 44 dictators.
6 The New Lobbyists (for Foreign Interests). Duh.
* Ignores the vastly more corrosive effect of our own lobbyists.
7 The Du-baing of America. Money talks, but the authors exaggerate in their continuing anti-Clinton angst. Dick Cheney, not Bill Clinton, is the main man here.
8 The Plastic Fleece: Credit Card Company Abuse. Duh. 29.9%
* This is only possible because Congress got bought off and eliminated caps. The Bible calls it usury. Advanta, Citi-Bank, Chase, are all under investigation while smart people pay off the principal and tell them to go fish for the usurious interest.
9 Teachers. Duh. You get what you pay for, but this is much much worse--the extreme right is going for charter and church schools to create little me's, the left is accepting substandard schools, and the smartest kids know that schools are so out of date as to be worthless.
10 Released from Guantanamo, They Kill Again. Please. Try looking at our own prison population, and then be serious about the role of morality in domestic and international standing and efficacy.
11 How Hedge Fund Billionaires Live Off Tax Breaks
*which they paid for because we let them
12 How the Teachers' Union Rips off its Members
* All Unions are a disgrace and rip off their members.
13 Re-Building Luxury Second Homes in Flood Area at Our Expense. Right on.
* Now try to understand and explain why we continue t o legitimize paving over nature
14 The Subprime Loan Crisis: Why the Greedy are Going Free
* Please. We all know the Feds settle white collar crime at a penny on the dollar. This is news?
15 How Halliburton Rips Off the Pentagon
* Please. 9-11 missile allegedly destroyed the computers with the forensic evidence of the 2.3 trillion Rumsfeld could not account for; Dick Cheney ordered to sole source for Halliburton and sent Paul Bremer in to stop a "premature" withdrawal of US forces until Halliburton was done looting
16 Blocking Toys that Poison Children from China. Duh.
* What about fair trade versus free trade, end of Big Box Swindle stores like Wal-Mart, etcetera?
17 How Company Bill Clinton Works for Fleeces the Vulnerable Elderly. More angst, need therapy.
* Reality is that the federal government is ripping everybody off, to the point that Buffet, Bogle, and Soros are actually worried that Wall Street corruption has gone too far
18 From Movie Lights to Lighting Up: How Films Induce Teens to Smoke. So tired its dead.
* What about success of abstinence and safe sex, the actual REDUCTION of teen smoking, the new-found teen appreciation for body building?
Dick Morris is gifted, and he sells his gifts in ways that bring in money from the light weight minds. Here's the book he could write before November:

Morris does an amazing job going on the offensive across the board whether 'conservative' or 'liberal." The only thing that is telling about where he is coming from is having "Barack Obama" in the subtitle. The book is a quick read with insets that highlight his concerns. So, if you agree with Barack Obama, you will at least see from Morris' point of view, some of the direction he is wanting to take.
The book is also very wide ranging, it discusses difference of opinion on terrorism, interestingly, things you have to search to find out. His take on the attempts of terrorism in the USA that were thwarted since 9-11 is reminscent of the book "American Jihad." Did you know that one of those released from Gitmo was a Taliban leader who returned to continue fighting?
He takes on Hillary, McCain and Obama in their run for the presidency yet leaving their work as Senators, what they are being paid to do now. The congress has only met a handful of time to vote and many are no shows. He takes on Haliburton, so anyone who thinks that this is a rant against the Dems, well, that seems wrong in my opinion.
He is concerned about the number of teachers who are abandoning their profession, education is receiving so much less funding than healthcare and will most likely continue to receive much more.
I did not like some of his earlier books, since he had left the Clinton administration, I felt he was on a tirade against them in particular and that is not my cup of tea.
However, his ranting in this book comes off as a warning that we may want to still have an anchor in the center of things, politically, commercially, socially and economically. Whether it is who is being paid what for Lobbying of anything of the use of pension funds to promoting the whims of someone who states he hates the USA.
An interesting book. Worth the read whether you consider yourself liberal or conservative.

     By A2W0RPRN76ZK6W on 2008-06-24
I received this as a promotional copy a few weeks ago, and read it because i was intrigued with the title. There are several times throughout the book that the author makes very interesting points, is well researched and makes the reader second-guess some policies, but with that said, the book if very narrow in focus. Morris, and I imagine to a lesser extent McGann, tend to stick with key points that have been touched upon for the past 8 years or so.
For example - the media, which are typically left-wing pushovers, are ignoring terrorists - or that liberals want to silence the voice of the people.
The book has some interesting points, but should not be taken as 100 percent guidance. But, as is the case more often than not, people who already support this stance will read the book and agree with the facts that are given, and people who disagree will not read the book at all.
- Tricky Dick
     By A2QKCN2CKID0I9 on 2008-06-26
Please note: I did read this book. It's so predictable and shallow, it took me all of about an hour.
Before I begin here--two things--Isn't this the guy who was caught fooling around with a hooker about ten years ago? So to disassociate himself from Pres. Clinton (former boss) he swung to the hypocritical "moralists"--You know--people like the men's room Senator from Idaho?
Also my second point-a word about the ***** star reviews: Please do ignore those. They are written by the same inflamed fanatics that have made the once mighty U.S. a sinking ship economically and morally since that barely literate, practically inarticulate bumbling fool has been our President. (we know who's really in charge. It's called: Corprocracy, folks). The entities that made Cheney, Bush, etc. even wealthier in a most obscene way(exploiting people like you and me who are getting get all the poorer). Truly, it was this Administration who made the the very elitist few all the richer and the rest of us all the poorer. If any one has FLEECED America, it is the BUSH Administration. Plain and simple. Their moralizing is a front and it is sad that so many fell for this. Thank goodness it's almost over, but people like Morris are going to keep cranking out the venom that has weakened the spirit of this country in a most shameful, hate-filled manner that makes many think twice about the better pastures in neighboring Canada.
This Republican Admistration has been the biggest, most irresponsible spenders of the People's money than any in the history of the very Presidency of our nation. Period. Fact. And it is a joke to see what Morris is saying here. Bush & Co. are brazen in that they didn't think for a nano-second of taking our money to fund their secret war--you know, the one they never discuss, which is to take over the world's resources--Iraq being the Third biggest oil producing nation in the world. This is the thing that is never talked about by any media or government entity. Also, the several impeachable counts that should have this President and VP on the floor of Impeachment hearings right at this very moment.(I do think the Democratic Congress is weak and cowardly not to press the Impeachment issue) But Bush & Cheney's war was a farce. It was something they aimed in doing from the get-go--and the Sept. 11th incidents were a convenient excuse to implement those plans. This truth is now more out in the open and will become more so in the ensuing years. This hideous exploitation of Americans' hard earned tax dollars, and the insanely irresponsible borrowing from China will keep us in recession condition for many years to come.
The poisonous pens of people like Morris only feed a weakening of America's spirit. I mean, is he really serious about the media taking on an anti-terror stance? I'd say it's more like the media is getting tired of the seven-year old rant of the same fear projections, and it's time to look at real concrete issues that we are facing, like the collapse of our infrastructure. But I have only seen the utmost attention from all the major electronic media whenever anything related to the terror issue comes up. The point about TALK RADIO? Again, is this guy serious? And who cares, really, when we have far more pertinent issues. Right now, people are hurting as a direct result of the abuses of this Administration. The real estate fiasco is just a typical scenario you're going to get from greedy, self serving people like Bush and Cheney and everything they represent. Nothing could be more emblematic. So keep writing these hate-filled, negative, character-assassinating tomes and wonder in so many years why America has lost its majesty, its remarkable spirit as it sinks all the lower in a Trillions of dollars war, a failed economy and a humiliated spirit. We only have history to look at.
Germany was filled with hate and retribution after WWI decimated its economy. And look who crawled in to save the day? Our guy, Adolf! Sixty years later, Germany still can't shake the shadow of Hitler, but this country was the first to say a resounding NO to that insane invasion of Iraq some six years ago. I think you could rightfully say they have ` been there , done that. And look what it cost that country to gain such wisdom!
- A fascinating book, based on excellent research
     By A2S51KEG8XWI9U on 2008-06-24
A breath of fresh air in terrible times when most of the main stream media does not give us an impartial view
of events. Sometimes they even choose to avoid important news that they do not like.
I loved the way this book deals with the media mockery of terrorist threats, and also with those who have the nerve to try to kill talk radio.
THis is a book based on a lot of research and it has been a big help to me to focus on the ideas of the candidates to the Presidency putting aside what is not really important.
- Better than Expected
     By A34PAZQ73SL163 on 2008-09-21
Fleeced was a surprisingly good book. I have not read Morris before but own his counter-spin analysis of Hillary's history (I'll get to it someday). You should know, up front, that Fleeced is improperly grouped with the Obama books but only the initial 40 pages or so concern him. After that Fleeced addresses a panoply of issues. The narrative and its subject matter are straight up populism. Morris has always had a populist edge to him and is more of a Republican than a conservative in my view. That being said, most of his observations are legitimate. Valid points are made concerning the futility of releasing the Guantanamo prisoners ad hoc, the way credit cards scam us with a myriad of fees and cloaked charges, the anti-work ethic of senators and Congressmen, and the nature of the subprime loan crisis. The book could have been 50 pages shorter though as there are innumerable lists included that probably don't need to be here. Apart from that, Morris and wife exceeded my expectations.
- HOT AIR
     By ADGN6LAG8XF8E on 2008-06-25
WOOF! WOOF! Cry wolf. Why doesn't this dude Morris restrict his hot air to FOX? He knows no more, in fact, about any of these issues in this book than the local grammar school janitor. Has he ever held any position in government in which his judgment ever played an important role of the magnitude of this book's subject matter? Just think about it. Don't encourage him.
- Somewhat blunt and caustic, but a good read anyhow
     By AOT86E19KMKOJ on 2008-07-09
Just like his interviews on the TV talk shows, Dick Morris comes across as blunt and caustic in this book. Although the book is eye opening and to some level interesting, especially the chapter on what an Obama presidency will result in, it gets a little tiring at times. I found myself putting it down because of the tired same old sarcasm about individuals and groups who are fleecing the American people. And, he doesn't pick on just Democrats, he gives the Republicans a piece his mind also with the inefficient business operations in Iraq, i.e. Halliburton. Other chapters are focused on the Democrats undoing of the Patriot Act if Obama is elected, the subprime lending fiasco and others. If you like Dick Morris, this book is for you (of course). If you are just wondering, I would recommend Newt Gingrich's Real Change instead. The information provided is more readable and provides more facts and data to back up his case.
- Doubt 1 Star reviewers even read the book
     By A1C57W6MWYF7H8 on 2008-06-27
Great book and really pointed out how our ENTIRE government is letting us down. Sadly it has made me more cynical about this country's future, since it seems like our choices are being made others. From what this book talks about it is becoming more and more difficult to change the path. Regardless who gets elected to congress or president, the system seems to be against us!
Funny how most of the people who gave this book 1 star did not try to refute the "obvious" faults of the book. They just went on and on with very similar comments about Morris being a right-wing, Fox news, O'Reily, etc tool. Nothing at all about any substance that they can refute, just rants about how conservatives are inherently evil and they obviously are smarter than the rest cause they can see through it all. What a bunch of elitist who just think that because they say someone is wrong people are too stupid to figure out what they are really doing - simply character assassination without addressing the actual material. Talk about the BOOK to prove your point that the BOOK was bad.
Check out some of the past reviews of these one star guys. It seems as though their full time job is to "review" conservative books and "show" us that they are ALL horrible books and even more horrible authors. One guy even reviewed a book on "touring Cuba" and said it was very helpful on his last trip. Although it does not prove he is a communist or even anti-American, it certainly doesn't help to paint them as the opposite. Just found it humorous.
- Same old, same old
     By A1V7IVN5SALDW2 on 2008-06-25
What can you say? Like a dog returning to its vomit Dick Morris churns out another book on the woes of the world and how they are caused by the Democrats (with a few minor swipes at Republicans he doesn't like).
Its the same stuff as in "Outrage" with the same biases, prejudices, misrepresentations and half truths. I thought it was getting old and stale when he wrote about it in Outrage, but, as the 5 star reviews show, the audience is still there.
In other words if, goodness knows how, you loved "Outrage" you will love this too. However, for the rest of us, who enjoy fact based arguments, steer clear (yet again).
- Simply awful.
     By A152WCOVK5R076 on 2008-06-25
It's total rubbish.
Tune in to Bill O'Reilly or Sean Callamity any day and you'll hear the same tired old lines being trotted out.
In other words nothing you won't hear coming out of Faux "news".
Simply awful.
- Another Right-Wing Conspiracy Nut
     By A1ITA15SBEPD6T on 2008-06-24
I received a galley copy of this one from a friend who works for Borders and, unsurprisingly, its just another baseless, paranoid, racist rant from those who bring you Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. There are no new theories in here: just the same old favorites like the "liberal media bias" and the "destruction of family values by the Democrats." There is nothing new between the covers of this one, and nothing particularly entertaining or clever either. Save your money and if you are Republican that can't live without your daily serving of liberal bashing, stick to talk radio.
I must add that I love the timing of this book and smear tactic against Barak Obama used in the title. Shouldn't the writer be registered as a Swiftboater?
- Clear and Concise
     By A3EXHVSA7UKSPW on 2008-06-25
I like the way this book is written in clear and concise language and how it gets to the point of each subject quickly. The references and supporting material given show that the text is based on facts rather than opinion. Using Obama's own words to show his intent and fleeting relationship with the truth is a brillant tool for exposing this man for what he is: dangerous.
- Does the messenger matter?
     By A358HQR08MTV0U on 2008-06-30
Morris has spent his professional life as a paid policy and character assasin for the highest bidder. He was caught on tape with a hooker bragging of his importance to the Clinton administration while disclosing secret national security and policy matters. Hurt because he was fired he dedicates all of his time to destroying the Clintons and the democratic party. He is rewarded by FOX news and buyers of his books because they don't care who he is so long as the mud he slings is added to the public discourse. This book adds nothing new to the debate. It is a distraction from the serious discussion required from both liberals and conservatives if we are to move this country forward.
- Details Why Obama is Dangerous for America
     By A5LI3KJ8OR3YV on 2008-06-24
Great book. Well researched. If you are the average American, this book will show you why you can't afford Obama. 60% effective rates, govt healthcare. Don't vote for Obama unless you want to go broke the next four years. And if you can't spell Barack, you shouldn't be allowed to vote for him.
- The party's almost over...
     By A186M1BOXIRIMQ on 2008-06-25
That this type of conservative tripe would appear as an expression of the last dying death throes of the Bush "presidency" and the republican domination of the country nears it's oblivion is no surprise. Wholly worthless. The rats are leaving the sinking ship. The party's over, guys. You've gorged yourself at the trough; time to pack it up. It's hard to believe after eight years, I know, but - you're done. THANK GOD.
- I wanted to like this book but whoever did his research sure
     By A1KL1DO76ZOECJ on 2008-11-03
didn't know what he was talking about.
I have watched Dick Morris for years and like the way he analyzes politics but he sure doesn't know anything about the stock market and the mortgage mess.
I got the feeling I was reading a bunch of off the wall bull when in Chapter 8 he calls Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank "courageous and heroic" in taking on the banks for their .... ATM Fees!!!
When he gets to the chapter on the Sub Prime Mortgage mess he never mention those two buffoons who should be duck walked into the nearest prison for what they did... taking money from bankrupt mortgage companies "Wamu" and putting gay lovers in charge of affordable housing at Fannie Mae. Instead he blames Loan Officers for writing bad loans to people the Congress and President Clinton forced Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make loans to.
Don't believe me... Google "Affordable Housing Initiatives" and see for yourself.
I stopped reading at this point... no reason to fill my head with a lot of inaccurate rantings from Mr. Morris.

- Obama the TaliBama - The book voters should STUDY for the election
     By A3ICO90N48KZ0E on 2008-06-24
Dick's research and writing is absolutely phenomenal and very entertaining. As of today (24JUN08) trust in our congress is just 12%. This book will help you understand why.
1. 50 of the released 425 terrorists from Guantánamo, have been returned to their countries then returned to the battlefield and have now been recaptured. How many more have we not yet recaptured?
2. Obama and Clinton both want a $1 trillion in tax increase to go to the UN!
3. Over 90% of the "mainstream media" are in the tank for the Obama the TaliBama.
If you read only one book this month or this year for that matter, this should be the book you read.
- Great Comedy
