2 thumbs down By on 1999-07-28
I bought this book back in January and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, judging from previous reviews I thought it would be a good tool. As a team facilitator I can honestly say this book is a dud! I have held countless team building and team spirit workshops and/or meetings and not once did I find a suitable exercise!
Borrrrrriinnnnnngg! By A1ST30NFYCMRBC on 2000-07-19
This book might be appropriate for a grammar school teacher (maybe). Application to contemporary business environment, NOT. Save your money (and time).
Great for Retirees By on 2000-08-22
I really don't have the words to explain how I was not impressed. These are definately for a slow group. Not very challenging or exciting. I wish I had of returned it. It's collecting dust on my shelf.
Very boring and uncreative-I plan to return it By on 1999-05-19
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone
Good ideas - but left wanting more By on 1999-03-13
With the reviews, I thought I was buying a winner. But, when it arrived, it had a few good ideas, but nothing really blew my socks off. I called fellow trainers and got better ideas from them. Book is full of basic stuff...could use a bit more physical or outdoor examples.
- The Big Book Of Disappointment
     By ADRF7H4UPMQ7S on 2002-09-30
I can't imagine who might be pleased with this team building book, including the authors. I can't imagine what group responded positively to a number of the activities. I typically approach a review looking to describe the assets and liabilities of the selection. In my opinion, this book has no asset. The activities of value have been described in many other resource books. The games and activities you won't find in other publications were wisely left unpublished. Fortunately, you don't have to trust my opinion. Read through the sample pages. I have one condition under which I could recommend this book in good faith. A facilitator or group leader who has access to a willing group that will remain intact over a period of time might try experimenting with some of the otherwise sure to be skipped over activities. A lot of trial and error may produce a new keeper or two. I bought this book to add to an already extensive resource library. I almost reconsidered my policy of not returning a book. Those who have taken the book off my shelf have wasted little time replacing it. The price might tempt you to purchase this item. Resist! The phrase "you get what you pay for" may be true in many cases. In this case, you really do get less. May you benefit from my mistake and look elsewhere for a team building resource.
- Terrible
     By A2EAC4WD142HBR on 2003-05-29
I ordered this book along with Alanna Jones "Team Building for Every Group" and this book is horrible. The Jones book is outstanding. This book is very difficult to follow, it doesnt flow very well and the activities are very weak. It is geared more towards office stuff, but you couldnt even use it for office stuff since the games are very difficult to manage and obvious. I think they are more concerned with The Questions they ask than the activity. These games are some that I could think of on my own... I am returning the book.
- A few nuggets
     By on 2004-03-04
I ordered this one with Brian Miller's Quick Teambuilding Activities for busy Managers (which is excellent). I was disappointed by this one. So many of the activities were overly simplistic. Several werent what I would even call activities, but rather "facilitated discussions." I only found a few worth trying. I rely on the other book much more.
- An excellent tool for leaders and coaches!
     By A26MWAXDVHVWNT on 1998-06-10
This book is an excellent tool for any coach who has a team who is "shy" or not working well together. I coach an athletic team with high school girls and we have used some of the activities and plan to use many more activities that are in the book. The "Human Spider Web" was one of their favorites and encouraged them to talk to each other and work together. This book goes with the team everywhere, even on our road trips. The book has been an important part of our team's "equipment".
- Big book of Lousy Ideas
     By A1NKW7ZWNP55TS on 2005-10-05
This was a complete waste of money! The ideas were stale and elementary. Do not waste your money or your time flipping through it.
- How I lived without it, I dont know!
     By A2DNXMOPXQ3L4Z on 1999-01-27
1001 praises for this book! I recently became a trainer at my company, the book helped out in heaps when it came down to ice breaking and team building exercises. Everyone was amazed on how well I've conducted my training sessions! Maybe I should let them in on my secret book!
- very easy to use, clever ideas
     By on 1999-04-22
easy to use, easy to remember exercise
- Good Reference

I have used this book on several occasions and have passed along some of the exercises to other trainers. The exercises are easy to read, understand and do.
- Patronising rubbish
     By A2GZKI1P2P5YWR on 2006-11-03
It's strange how so many businesspeople I meet tend to be right-wing, anti-communist and great believers in personal freedom, yet run their businesses like Stalin's Russia. Workers are motivated by a mixture of fear and ambition and any individual opinion that deviates from the party line is seen as a threat.
I'm a manager. All I ask of my staff is that they're honest, work hard and treat everyone with respect. That's it. For my part I give them a clear idea of what I expect and make sure that they have the tools to do the job and receive recognition of their achievements. What I don't do is mess with their heads.
This book is symptomatic of a trend in management culture where it is not enough to ask people to do their jobs well, we now have to re-engineer their souls. The aim of this book is to motivate staff with 'fun' activities in staff training sessions, but the reality is intrusive and patronising. One game invites workers to mention a childhood achievement that they were particularly proud of and then get other members of the team to discuss it. Well, I believe in personal freedom and part of that is not feeling obliged to talk about personal things in a work setting.
Chairman Mao had his 'Cultural Revolution' and this smacks of the same attitude. It's not enough for people to do as they're told, they now have to have the right attitude and if they're not willing to be team players, they're out. It's like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'.
Buy this book to find out how emotionally dysfunctional people struggle to motivate teams and get it horribly wrong.
- Great

Excellent quality and turnaround time, received when promised. The games are fun, and not immature for adults!
- Great book for great ideas

Remember when you were in arts and craft classes, this book is like that
- Simplistic
     By on 2002-12-20
OK but kind of simplistic. I used an item in an MBA class, but I had to add a lot of content to make it interesting.
- Integrating people
     By ABEKU77JIHWUK on 2003-03-01
I liked this book for its good, simple and practical exercises to activate training on teamwork. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for high-risk activities.
- Superb resource book

I had this series of books before - loaned them out at work and never got them back (go figure!). Happy to have found them again here.
- not worth buying
     By A1O9WB99EB36MD on 2008-04-14
This book is not comprehensible and boring. I don't know what to do with it's content.
