  • 3rd book in the Malory Series

    By A3EYEZ5NH2HFFY on 2001-04-30
First off, here is the series in sequence: 1. Love Only Once 2. Tender Rebel 3. Gentle Rogue 4. The Magic of You 5. Say You Love Me 6. The Present: The Malory Holiday Novel

I decided to finish reading the whole series before i write the reviews so i can compare it all. Now this book (and Love Only Once) is my favorite in the Malory series. James have always intrigued me eversince I read about him in Love Only Once. He was a handsome care-free rebel & a pirate gentleman! In the 2nd book, Tender Rebel, my intrigued even heightened when he brought home a son, Jeremy, and when James got charmed by a girl pretending to be a lad who he met at a seaside bar. Once again, I wasn't disppointed when I read his story. James and Georgina's love story was not only sweet & charming, it was most definitely the most amusing of all the Malory book series. The seatrip, the schemes & pretentious, the meeting of Georgina's brother's was utterly hilarious. James surely got a dose of his own medicine. What a riot! You will love James more in this book... and you too will be charmed by Georgina. They are both a lovely pair.

Note: I have notice that all books in this Malory series (except for the first one) contains lots of repetitive informations. There were times I had to skip parts wherein a Malory or two will start discussing the story or happenings of the previous books, sorta like a short summarization for those who have not read it. For readers like me who have read the series in sequence, It's kindda useless info. and i won't lose anything to skip it... At first, this style of writing didn't seem to bother me but when I got to the third book of the series, the summarization of the first two books was getting to me (but i still rated this book a 5 stars bec. I highly enjoyed it despite me skipping some parts i already know about). Imagine my restlessness when i was reading the 4th and the 5th book! I skipped more parts then cuz I didn't need to read the summary of the 3-4 previous books which i have already read. Whew! I say it would have been better for Ms. J.L. to leave readers some thrill to pick up each book and read each story for themselves.

  • BEST of the BEST!!!!!

I LOVED this book ...absolutely loved it. There wasn't a lag to be found in the tightly wound, action packed, funny, terribly romantic, and wonderful novel. I rarely say anthing is super great...but this book is SOOOO GREAT. It definitely deserves more stars. James Malory and Georgie were so beautifully described you couldn't help but identify with them. Definitely a re-read.

  • One of my all time favorites!!!!!

I can't say enough about this book! I completely fell in love with James (who wouldn't?). I have never laughed so much while reading a book. I think I have read it at least 50 times! Two of my favorite scenes is when Tony finds out that James and George are married and when they are having breakfast with Tony and his wife. Also, any scene with James and Tony going at it with each other is guaranteed to be hilarious!!! I loved the relationship Johanna Lindsey created between those two Malory men. I definitely recommend this book to everyone!!! If you haven't read it yet, you don't know what you are missing. I also loved all of the other Malory novels, but this one is the best. I CANNOT wait until Jeremy has his own story!!!

  • Enchanting

    By A18URP1YKAD79S on 2000-10-03
I found this book absolutely wonderful. This was the fifth Malory novel I've read and I loved it. This is the story of James Malory, the family ex-pirate, and Georgina Anderson, a heartbroken American. Did I mention James is English? Ms. Lindsey has brought to life two very lovable characters. I laughed at the antics of James and his brother Anthony. And when Connie, friend of James, is added to the mix it is downright hilarious. The love scenes between James and Georgina are without a doubt superb. There is so much tenderness between the two. You will fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other. Tender Rebel, the Malory novel with Anthony as the main character, is closely tied to Gentle Rogue. Some parts of the story overlap with Tender Rebel. The parts are so entertaining though I'm sure you won't mind. Oh, one other thing, once you read one Malory novel you'll be hooked and have to read them all!!!!:o)

  • One of the Best

Couldn't put it down! GENTLE ROGUE is definitely one of the best romance novels that I've ever read! It's fantastic. I absolutely love James and Georgie. They are such endearing characters. Their passion and humor is a wonderful mix. The story contains fast-paced action, engaging characters, witty dialogue, but most of all, excellent romance! Love scenes are erotic and tastefully done. There are plenty of memorable moments here (e.g., the bathing scene and risque bedtime story!! What a hoot!). The repartee between James and his 'George' is hilarious. This is such a fun and entertaining read. Although I've read few other Lindsey novels, I believe most don't compare to this one.

  • the best...so far...of the Malorys
    By A1EBV78WX4BJQS on 2005-07-27
I read Say You Love (Derek and Kelsey's story) in early 2005 and I thought it was a good romance, but lacking in character development. Then I noticed that there was a series of books about the Malorys and decided to read them all, but couldn't get them in order at the library.

I read Gentle Rouge in 1 night last week and have to say it is the funniest of the Malory novels so far. I just read Love Only Once (Reggie and Nicholas) 2 nights ago and am in the middle of Tender Rebel (Anthony and Roslyn). I think the reason Gentle Rouge is my favorite is that some of the scenes between James and Georgie are SOOOO funny. One of my favorite ones is where Georgie feels 'sick' whenever she is around James and how he offers a 'cure' for it. I was laughing so hard I thought I would wake my husband!!!

Some of the things that James does are just hilarious. I LOVE James....a rake who has a heart. Georgie is great because she is NOT helpless and because she can really give back to James. Ms. Lindsey really develops both characters here. The setting is unusual (a ship) but that's how they get to interact more than in other books...because they are in an enclosed space.

I have read so many historical romances and have to say James and Georgie are my favorite couple!!!

  • You'll love it--"You may depend on it"
    By on 1999-11-18
There are no words to praise this book highly enough. If you're thinking about buying it, just let me point out that EVERY reviewer on this page has given this book 5 stars. James Malory is not only gorgeous and sensual, but the funniest character ever. And Georgina Anderson has so much spunk and fire without being annoying. I have read this book countless times, and it is funnier every time I read it. My favorite scene? When Georgie calls James "a member of the mule family, a brainless ox, and a brick wall" to his crew.

  • "The Devil She Has . . . Bloody Hell!"
    By on 1999-11-08
James Malory, connoisseur of women, has finally announces to his best friend that he is about to commit himself at last! To a mistress that is, not a wife. But James has finally found his match in Georgina Anderson, who hates all things British! "Blister it, Connie, the wench has deserted me, and without a by-your-leave. Don't talk to me about problems I might have faced, when this one's knocked me on my arse."

This book is a page turner, but before you read it make sure your read "Love Only Once" and "Tender Rebel". You meet the Hawke, that's Gentleman Pirate to you! James is non-stop laughter from Regina Ashton's story to his brother Tony's, that ah, Lord Anthony!

  • Excellent: Romance, Humor, Excitement all in one!
    By on 2003-11-09
I've read a lot of duds lately, so I was thrilled while reading "Gentle Rogue." It never got boring. I read the entire 426 page book in a day, because I could not put it down.
James Malory is a terrific hero. His wit keeps you grinning through out the story. He's also big, strong, brave, and all man. Although he has a dark past, he has a soft heart for the women in his family.
Georgina Anderson makes a great heroine, too. She is strong- willed, but not nasty like some heroines turn out. She has guts and is willing to work to make her way home, to America, from England. She's intelligent and witty, as well.
The families of both James & Georgina are also a good source of humor. James has 3 brothers, Georgina has 5. All enjoy ribbing one another in a way that makes the whole story fun.
Great love scenes, that are steamy without going over the edge.
This is my first book by Lindsey. I'm definitely going to look for more of her work.

  • By Far The Best Book Ever
    By on 1999-01-06
This is the first romance novel I've ever read and I can honestly say the best. I found it in my mothers room when I was about 14 yrs old. I read it in one night because I just couldn't put it down. This book made me laugh out loud so many times. The characters are the best! After I read this book I was comepletly hooked on romance novels. Yet, no matter what books I've read since, I always come back to this one. I must have read it at least 40 times. (Its my second copy) James is the man!! He's so cute and absolutely lovable. You fall in love with him from the beginning. Johanna went way beyond herself when she created this character. I also have to give her credit for the little weird positions she put George in they were hilarious. And I have to say the chemistry b/t George and James makes me believe in true love.

  • Gentle Rogue
    By on 2002-02-04
This is the VERY BEST Johanna Lindsey work to date, not to mention the best Mallory novel in every way. Gentle Rogue tells the story of James the black sheep Mallory. James is pure fantasy; a tall, muscular, golden, "gentleman pirate", with enough humor and dry wit to keep him real. By the end of this book every woman will want a "James" in her bed - just like Georgina Anderson, the fiesty American trapped in England. Georgie, as she's known to her family, decides to desquise as a boy and work her way home as a cabin boy on the ship of - you guessed it - Captain James Mallory.
I usually don't like "Romance on the High Seas" books, but James and Georgie's passion is real and just as hot on dry land. Speaking of dry land, the introduction of Georgie's five single American brothers is fantastic. Note to Ms. Lindsey: Make the Anderson brothers your next heros.
Overall a very steamy romance. I read it in one night because I couldn't find a suitable stopping point. Each page is better than the last. I melt for James Mallory and I'm sure you will too!!!

  • Passion, adventure and humor
    By A2DRCJ1YOFTZKK on 2002-08-29
I wish I had never read this book so I could read it for the first time again and again. But as I have read it more than 10 times by now and I know every line and paragraph, I must be content to encounter the magic the 11th time, the 12th time... and so on.

This is my favourite JL book. For me, it is the perfect romance, it has everything: love, passion, laughs, adventure. The characters and storyline are perfect: the ex-pirate rogue - that's gentleman pirate, pardon me James :) - , British lord on the side, handsome, sarcastic, who has sworn never to get married and who thinks no woman will be more to him than a mistress, meets his equal and downfall in an adventurous American girl, who hates all things English and aristocratic, as she is forced to impersonate his cabin boy in order to get home to America. They fight, they laugh, they make love, but - of course - they cannot be together since he's not ready yet to commit himself and she knows this.

The situation she is put in as his cabin boy (of course he knows she's a woman, but there are so many possibilities to this seduction game that he cannot resist), as she slowly grows attracted to him and doesn't even know it yet, generate endless laughs. Georgina has a funny way of talking to herself (or to her conscience), like Megan in Man of my Dreams, which allows you to know her for the wonderful funny and smart girl that she is and makes you understand why James falls for her. As for the other way around, what girl wouldn't fall in love with a handsome pirate who happens to make you feel like you're in heaven, makes you laugh and gives you everything you want?

After she leaves him just as he was about to propose to her to be his mistress ("Good God, James, you were going to go *that* far?" as his friend Connie puts it), he realizes he can't part with her just yet and makes a wonderful scene in front of all her five brothers at a big party, thus allowing himself to be "forcefully" wed to her - and then prompty thrown into jail for his pirating acts. Georgina breaks him out of jail and he "abducts" her (quote since she doesn't resist the abduction and his apparent reasons for taking her are more than forced) and takes her back to his home in England. Here, he is forced to introduce his new wife to his family (remember Regan, Tony, Roslynn?) whose reactions vary from disbelief to stupefaction and happiness. They slowly come to terms with each other and accept their love.

The journey is so wonderful, you wouldn't want to change anything in the story. I cannot praise Ms. Lindsey skill enough on this one.

  • The Gentleman Pirate (Malory# 3)
    By A3APPKALUGB2GT on 2005-03-05
If you have read the second Malory book, Tender Rebel, you will recall the first encounter between James and Georgina at the tavern where, even disguised as a boy, she still managed to catch the ex-pirate's eye with her cute derriere and leaves a lasting impression on James. Towards the end of that book, we saw James off to the West Indies and learn that she has ultimately fallen into his lap when she and her friend seek passage on his ship.

In Gentle Rogue, we learn that Georgina is actually an American who came to London in search of her English fiancé, whom she hasn't seen in six years. Despite her five brothers' objections, she managed to get their old Scottish friend Mac to accompany her only to find out that their search has been in vain, when she learns that her supposed fiancé is now married with kids. Angered with this discovery, and the fact that she and Mac are practically penniless after being robbed, they ended up working for their passage in the Maiden Anne, not knowing that the ship belonged to James Malory, the man she has remembered as 'the brick wall' who carried out of that tavern like a log. And so she finds herself working as a cabin boy for Maiden Anne's captain only to find out too late in the journey who that captain is.

When James Malory finds out who his new 'cabin boy' is, he asks his first mate Connie to pretend they didn't know the truth. Being the rake that he is, he takes pleasure in seducing Georgina before unmasking her real identity. And boy, are we in for some real fun! I love how James continually teases Georgina and her response is just so delightful to read. I was so amused by their pretence. I had a roaring good time reading about George's 'sickness' and how James tried to 'cure it'. I laughed so much when she told him "You make me ill" to which she was referring to the physical desire she feels every time she comes near him.

And if reading about the whole trip isn't enough, wait until you meet the Anderson brothers when they arrive in America. They're pretty much the American counterparts of the Malory brothers. They'll make quite a good story too.

This is my favorite out of the whole series. It's a very entertaining read with very likable characters.

  • I love you James Malory!!!
    By A3L0QWN12VDR0T on 2006-05-02
Definitely the best of best works Johanna Lindsey had ever done! Do you know why? See all the ratings in here? All are 5 out of 5 and I am rating it just the same. This is the first Malory and JL book I've ever read. This made a great impression to buy all of her books!

Well, along with this book, another reason why I got intrigued and then bought it was the front cover. Fabio (the model) had captured the very image of the ex-pirate gentleman James Malory. It was so succulent to dream about him with all those wits, sarcasms and seduction under his handsome posture.

Anyway, about the whole story, well, you will never go disappointed. Compare this to other Malory series, this is the top of them all. I don't over exaggerating it for this is the solid truth. Check all of the reviews in here and you will understand.

James Malory had captured the hearts of the readers. Georgie did the same. She's one of the most lovable heroines in JL's works. I include Amy (The Magic in You) in there. Not much for Regina (Love only Once) though. Anyway, their tandem is one of the most unforgettable and perfectly matched. The hero hated marriage and eternal entanglements while the other hated all about English and wanted to be married for she sees herself too old like a spinster. I laughed at most when they are finally stayed together in the captain's cabin. George pretended to be a cabin boy without knowing that James knew all about her disguise. So to have her, no rape has been done which did relieve me to the fullest for most of JL first works revolves around rape.

James did a lot of indirect yet funny, seductive things just to capture George's likes and he had succeeded. One of the funny seductions that I can't forget is that James wanted George to read him a book so that he can go to sleep or release his boredom. With it, she did what she was told to do. And do you know what kind of book it is? HA! It contains all the explicit moves about the pleasures of lovemaking. Georgina blushed to the fullest after reading the first lines of that particular page the rascal James wanting her to read it for him aloud, eventually realizing that its full acts of fornication - not proper thing to read by a lady. Love to see her face and reaction.

I also love the exchanging wits and sarcastic lines between the Andersons and the Malorys. And also, the sarcasms between the two pesky, handsome rakehells - Anthony "the raven-haired and lean guy" and James "the Blond and hefty one" - are to die for.
    Love as its full best.

Buy it! You won't regret it. I promise you.

  • Not the best I've seen from the Malorys
    By A22TZUXUKA11SQ on 2007-04-09
The youngest member of the Skylark shipping line Andersons, Miss Georgina Anderson is an American who hates England and all things English. She blames the country for taking away her fiance who left her six years ago to fight in the war. Sick of waiting for his return, Georgie travels to England to get her man with an old family friend, against the wishes of her five older brothers. When she finally does find her fiance, it turns out he's been married for more than five years and Georgie feels like a fool for waiting so long. Determined to move on with her life, Georgie decides to find passage on the first ship headed back toward her family. The only problem is that, since their money was stolen on the trip to England (yet another reason for her to hate the country), she and her friend will have to work for their passage--meaning that Georgina will have to disguise herself as a boy.

Captain James Malory recognizes his new "cabin boy" from an encounter the two had when Georgie was searching for her fiance. He decides to let her carry on with the charade of being male because it amuses him, and he's sure that he'll eventually get her in his bed because of it. Finding ways to make Georgie realize the attraction between the two of them becomes one of James's favorite pastimes, including making her wash his back in the tub, prancing around his cabin naked, and asking her to read erotica to him so he can sleep. When the two finally get together, James is determined not to let her go, even though marriage is the farthest thing from his mind. He decides to ask Georgie to be his mistress, only she disappears on another ship the second they hit dry land, leaving Malory to lament her departure and wonder where he went wrong.

Gentle Rogue is one of the earlier stories in Johanna Lindsey's Malory series, and sets the foundation for the stories that come later. I've been reading a lot of newer historical romance and it's been awhile since I read a Lindsey, which might be why I wasn't as impressed with this story as I have been in the past with Lindsey's work. The chemistry between Georgie and James never really sparked for me, though the attraction was clearly there, and I was never fully absorbed into the story. It was difficult for me to allow the whole "big misunderstanding" wherein the two can't just tell each other how they feel and instead just assume that the other doesn't feel the same way. It was a classic tenet of 80's historical romance, but after being in the 2000's for so long, it was difficult to tolerate. Gentle Rogue was a good story, and classic Lindsey, but it wasn't the best I've seen from her.

  • Audiobook not so good
    By A17NVYRLAY4VWC on 2000-01-05
Actual reading was better than the audio version. I liked this book when I originally read it a few years ago. The audio version (abridged) misses way too much of the story and plot. So it is hard to get into the story.

  • Gentle Rogue
    By A66IXWM89VR57 on 2000-01-04
This was the second book I read written by Johanna Lindsey and it is my favorite. I thought the story was excellent and the characters endearing. I have read it over and over. Gentle Rogue is one of her best!

  • The best romance I have ever read
    By on 1999-12-21
I absolutely loved this book! I was a little bit afraid to read it because I was disappointed in how Anthony was presented in "Tender Rebel". Without James around, he mellowed and became a bit boring. James, on the other hand, can hold his own. He is wonderful and George is just the woman for him. I already can see the potential for the stories about the Anderson brothers. I just adore everything about this book. Even Nicholas began to grow on me. As always, I am enthralled with Jeremy and can't wait for his own story.

  • Is there no end to these Malory brothers?
    By A2AU73VLZ6U14G on 1999-12-27
I HATE the Malory family books. All the brothers are all so arrogant and rude! I have nothing against Lindsey; usually her books are very entertaining and sharp. In this book the hero treats the heroine like she's a common tramp! He wants her as his mistress but not his wife; when she leaves him he follows her home and announces to her entire family that she slept with him! Of all the nerve! I certainly hope we've seen the last of the Malory family!

  • Absolutely...THE BEST!
    By A7C89JN6G7EHB on 2000-10-24
It's been years since I originally read this book and I still think it's one of THE BEST romance novels around. I remember speed reading through this book when it came out.

Georgie is the type of heroine that I love... spunky, intelligent and not afraid to stand up for herself. James is the embodiment of the perfect hero...hunky, intelligent and a sense of humor that just doesn't stop! The interactions between the Mallory clan and Anderson siblings are priceless. Anyone reading this book can't help but include it on their top 5 list. It's #1 on my list! JL is a tremendous writer and I think this is the "jewel" in her collection. I don't know how many times I reread this book but I will certainly be picking it up again in the near future..."you may depend upon it!"

  • A tidal wave of passion . . .
    By A2E7J2X7CPK8IZ on 2004-08-31
Unlike most fans of Ms. Lindsey's Malory saga, I did not fall in love with James Malory in the first two books of the series. I found him rude, contemptuous and downright unlikable. In fact, it boggled my mind to see all the people who absolutely adored him, when I was hard-pressed to make myself read any scene that included him. However, all of that changed with his story in _Gentle Rogue_.

James Malory, the black-sheep of the much loved Malory family, is a cynical, world-weary ex-pirate. He's vowed, more than once, to never marry or even allow a woman to mean anything to him. He's more than happy to spend his life jumping from one paramour to the next and never having to commit his heart into any relationship outside of his own family. Much of his trepidation comes from seeing so many ladies of his acquaintance be unfaithful to their husbands (it's beside the point, he thinks, that those ladies were unfaithful with him). He figures, if he never takes the proverbial plunge, he'll never have to live through having someone be unfaithful to him.

Georgina Anderson, an American heiress, pledged her heart to a boy when she was barely sixteen years old. Now 22, she's decided to find her intended, who she hasn't seen in a number of years because of the war, so they can begin their life together. She travels to England, along with a family friend, and finds more than she bargained for. Heart-sick, out of money, and desperate to go home, Georgina and her companion sign on as crew members on the Maiden Anne, a ship sailing for Jamaica. Forced to hide her beauty in the guise of a boy, Georgina finds herself thrust into the role of cabin boy for the captain, James Malory.

Though fate has thrown them together, it takes more than that to join their stubborn hearts. Through pain and pleasure and the course of a voyage to America these two proud souls find that nothing means more to them than being together.

_Gentle Rogue_ is classic Lindsey at her best. There's just enough humor, passion, romance and angst to keep the pages turning almost of their own free will. The characters come to life and soon you feel they're old friends you've known forever. _Gentle Rogue_ is also the introduction of another infamous Lindsey family -- the Andersons. The Andersons are the American counterpart of the Malorys -- just as spirited, loyal, tempestuous and lovable. I fervently hope each Anderson brother gets his own story.

If you've come this far with the Malorys, don't stop now. The next story in line, _The Magic Of You_, is the story of Amy Malory, a Regina look-alike with all the boldness of Tony and James, the determination of Jason and the luck of her father, Edward.

  • Loved it!
    By A2IYX5W3A1N3VB on 2006-02-20
Do you want to know what I liked best about this book? The brothers! Brothers on both sides willing to pummel each other for reasons of honor, pride, piracy, or no reason at all. They'll beat you up until agree to marry their sister. Then they'll beat on you some more just for the fun of it. What great characters! Now I want to read the rest of the series and see all those brothers get their own unorthodox courtships.

I loved this book. As apparently everybody else did, too. So just read the book, already!

  • Another Great Malory Tale
    By on 2000-01-13
Gentle Rogue continues the Malory family story with finesse. With each new Malory tale I want to learn more about them. It's like you actually know them. This one especially was heartwarming and the characters unforgettable.

  • #3 in the Mallory Series
    By A1GY5M157FD82S on 2000-11-12
James, the black sheep and former pirate of the family, has met his match in the youngest sibling and only daughter of the American sea-faring Anderson family. Georgiana has come to England to find the man who was to marry her. Unfortunately, he has already married someone else. After she and her companion are robbed, Georgie and Mac must earn their passage home by working on James Mallory's ship. Disguised as a boy, Georgie is hired on to be James' cabin boy. But James recognizes her as the woman in disguise that he and his brother ran into previously. (See "Tender Rebel") He decides to play along with her, never realizing that his attraction to her is growing. Meanwhile, Georgie is more and more drawn to the roguish captain. Could she make it home before he discovers her deception?

Georgie is a delightful and wonderful character. I liked her right off the bat. James is.. well, James is every woman's fantasy. Handsome, sexy, strong, brave, and irresistable. Together they are magnificent! One of Lindsey's best!

  • Oh, James!
    By A3NLIWCBDV8Y4M on 2004-09-01
"Gentle Rogue" is the third in the Malory Family series, following "Love Only Once" (about Regina) and "Tender Rebel" (about Anthony); it's probably the best of the series, though I'm not going to admit that because I love Anthony the most. "Gentle" follows the exploits of big, blond James, the "dangerous" uncle - also, a retired gentleman pirate who was once disowned from the family. It actually begins with a few scenes taken word-for-word from "Tender Rebel," though fleshes them out with Georgina's story, explaining why James meets her for the first time in a tavern, disguised as a boy. Georgina keeps the ruse aboard James' ship as it sails from England to Jamaica, where she works as a cabin boy. This is when the fun really begins! Georgina trying her hardest to remember she is a boy is hysterical, especially since she doesn't know that James knows she's a girl. I love the banter between these two, as well as the burning passion. Then we're introduced to Georgina's five protective older brothers, who hate all things English - including James. Not only do they add hilarity and action to the story, but Lindsey also sets up the fourth Malory novel, "The Magic of You," featuring coldhearted, hot-tempered Warren, the brother determined to see that pirate James hang. Overall, "Gentle Rogue" is an exciting, endearing story with lots of wit, unforgettable characters, and plenty of memorable scenes. It's a definite must-read!

James Mallory has intrigued me since the first Mallory book, after all if he is so bad that his whole family disowns him then he has to be a man worthy of a great story. James has sworn he would never have a wife of his own and meant it until he fell for the woman pretending to be a boy, Georgie Anderson. James immediately sees through her disguise and has a plan to seduce George that he sets in motion. And I loved James provoking all five of George's brothers and getting trounced by them. (I hope JL writes a few books for the Anderson brothers soon) With all the buildup to James in previous books this one definitely wasn't a let down.

Book 3 of the Malory series is just a fun filled read all around. The story is great, the characters endearing, and the dialogue witty and engaging. I laughed my way through this book thoroughly enjoying the main characters' constant bantering, which in itself was foreplay.

Georgina "George" Anderson is a lovely heroine and the reader can really see her growth from young miss to woman through the telling of this story. She is a good match for James, the rakehell gentleman ex-pirate (and Anthony's brother). George is able to keep up the verbal sparring with James and isn't the least bit intimidated by him. Her journey into womanhood had even helped her to stand up to her brothers, the sister-adoring Anderson Five...who had a devilishly good time giving James his comeupance.

We meet likeable characters in the Anderson family who will play a role in future Malory novels.

All in all, Gentle Rogue is the best of this wonderful series and a classic that should be kept on the shelf for future re-reads.

The Malory Family has got to be the best in any series I've read in a long time. From Love only once all the way through to A Loving Scoundrel. This family has absolutely captivated me from the begining. I must say I am partical to James Malory, he has fascinated me from the begining. I hope there is more to this series. I have each book at least a dozen times and I recommend them highly. Since this family is so huge their are many more delightful characters to write about and I certainly hope that James & Tony's adventure's aren't over.
