Magical Drake Sisters Romance By A342BV4226SM5Y on 2006-06-30
Christine Feehan has written one of the best of her Magical Sisters novels. There is sissle, romance, danger, and magic in this episode of the series.
Libby Drake is the fourth of the seven sisters with magic. She is the Doctor, the good girl, the one who never gets in trouble. She has a gift for healing, using her abilities in context with her profession. Libby feels like the overlooked one in the Drake family, she feels she is destined to be an old maid, because she has never felt the pull of passion or the heat of chemistry.
Tyson Derrick is a genius, he and Libby attended college together. She has great respect for his brillance, but not for his social skills. Tyson is a loner, except for his cousin Sam. His interests lie in research but occasionally he needs to fill the emptiness inside, so he skydives, mountain climbs, or works with the Rescue Team his cousin is on. Only a rush of adrenaline seems to make him feel alive.
Until the day his safety rope snaps and he falls 30 feet onto the rocks below him. He is rushed to the hospital and declared in a vegative state. When Libby sees him she is forced by her gift to save his life, even at the risk of hers and her sisters. As Libby collapses he awakens to stare into her eyes and find there is something else that can make him feel alive. That can fill his empty heart. Suddenly he finds his mind filled with everything about Libby. He doesn't believe Libby can heal and considers her sisters con artists who have fooled a whole community. But he is determined to make her his.
There is a beauty and soothing quality in her face and Ty needs to have that in his life, Libby finds she is not without feelings of her own. As they try to learn about each other they are faced with several attempts on their lives. But are they against Libby or Ty. Each is determined to protect the other and the rest of the sisters are going to try to protect both.
I loved this book and found it one of the most readable ones I have read lately. It left me hungry for the next in the series. Don't miss this treat.
Main male character was a baby! By A3S9V8OLQENVK8 on 2006-08-09
I don't mind heroes that are tormented, but her main male character Ty was a bit too verbally caustic for my tastes. He is cynical of the families magical powers, and considers them con-artists. For about half the book, he is constantly telling Libby that her family is mentally unstable. Sorry, but he would have been kicked out the door as soon as he mentioned anything bad about my family. He had WAY to much baggage.
Libby tries to be the "bad girl," but (to me) she ends up a weaker character just for the fact that her "lust/love" overides her bonds to her family (see above paragraph.)
Sorry, I also don't like my heroes to cry. It is just too icky for me. Ty cries a few times in the book. I know it happens to men in real life which is fine, but it's a turn off when a strong manly fictional character bawls.
The authors other books were good. I agree with the one reviewer who said that the talent that Libby had was a little on the boring side, but I think that was more a fault of the author than the character.
There was alot of action. But, the villian was pretty much a straightfoward bet from the beginning. No surprises in this book. The storyline was broken into too many subplots and characters. She was cramming too many commercials in for her next books.
Hopefully her next book will be a little more structured, her characters more developed, and have some real suspense.
Feehan at her best... By AS5DB62UB7S0M on 2006-06-28
This was one of the best Feehan books that I have read in the last couple of years. This is about Libby Drake, Witch/Doctor/Healer and Ty Derrick, genius researcher. I'm not going to give you the plot or a description of the book because there are reviewers out there that will do a much better job of it than I can. I will tell you that this was a very satisfying love story and mystery. And character development was extremely good with both the hero and heroine - they grew in this book to be a unit and it was great to see. I especially loved the hero of this book. Also, each Drake sister is very much involved in the book and it was nice to see the sisters from the previous books, but I wish I had seen their fiancés (who were absent in this book) We also get glimpses of future books and pairings as in Hannah with Jonas, Elle with Jackson and Joley with a minor character from a previous book (he was mentioned once in this book and I can't remember his name but I immediately remembered him from a previous book). Now I not-very-patiently wait for the next installment of the Drake Sisters. Write fast Ms. Feehan!!!
libby and ty's story is not what one would expect By A8OXQ1F4M3Q6A on 2006-07-09
Like many others, I didn't expect Libby Drake's story to be particularly exciting. It seems the three younger Drake sisters, Hannah, Joley and Elle would have the best and most interesting stories out of the series. I planned to buy Dangerous Tides anyway, since I'm a big fan of the Drake sisters.
Libby's story is much better than I thought it would be. It showcases the lengths people would go to in order to get what they want; whether or not they have good intentions. It also shows how irrational and selfish people can be when it concerns their loved ones. People are sometimes too blind to see what's right in their face. Despite their insight, the Drakes are also susceptible to these faults.
Just because Libby's the sweet and caring sister out of the seven does not make her any less lovable. Christine Feehan has a knack for diversity which I'm grateful for. If all seven sisters were similar to one another in terms of personality, then it defeats the purpose of having seven different people (it might as well be one girl) starring in each book (with seven different love interests); and it wouldn't be realistic.
Libby sometimes tires of her good girl disposition and wishes she wasn't such a goody goody. She feels as if she's boring, and isn't much fun to be with. Like many other women, Libby is insecure about her looks. Especially since she has a model and a rock star in her family. She is a compassionate and understanding person with or without her empathic abilities. She strives to help people any way she can; even at the cost of harm to herself - major or minor. Her ability to heal makes her the target of many desperate, unreasonable people, which puts her safety at risk.
Tyson Derrick is nearly a mad scientist. He's driven with the need to know almost everything about anything. His brain needs constant stimulation. To feed his hunger for action, he's often engaging in some sort of extreme sport or experimenting in his lab. He's socially inept and feels out of place.
Ty thinks the Drake sisters like receiving attention and believes their gifts are a farce. At first he wanted to save Libby from her crazy family, but came to realize she needed protecting from the ridiculous demands other people make of her. She seems to be the only one in Sea Haven who isn't dumbfounded by Ty's tendency to go off on factual tangents, and can match him fact for fact. She accepts him for who he is, and because of that, Ty refuses to let anyone take her away from him.
Dangerous Tides is filled with scientific research, action, suspense and heart warming romance. There's a strong sense of family and friendship (like it is with all the Drake sister novels). The events in this novel illustrate how much loved ones can impact a person's life, how people should appreciate certain things and not take them for granted.
Predictable but highly entertaining By A2FG29CGPQV29N on 2006-11-21
Dangerous Tides is as sensual as it is an intriguing story of danger, mystery, and romance...with a touch of magic of course. Libby Drake is the sensible sister. As a medical doctor, and magically gifted with the power of healing, she has traveled the world to offer her services wherever needed. One of the things that Libby secretly longed for but also was afraid of was finding a love of her own. She's seen several of her sisters in very happy relationships and was quietly resolved that it would never happen to her. The only man she was ever attracted to didn't know that she existed.
Ty Derrick, a brilliant chemist and adrenalin junkie, has returned to Sea Haven to spend time with his cousin Sam. He's also decided that it's time he settle down, but the only problem is the only girl he could ever dream of being with is Libby Drake. Their paths finally cross when Libby risks her life to save Ty's. Sparks fly and Libby and Ty finally give in to their desires. But while they're busy falling in love, someone is also busy trying to murder one of them. There are several suspects but the climactic moment finally reveals, to their shock, the person behind the attempts on their lives.
This was an entertaining read but I'll warn you that Ty Derrick is not someone you will like very much. He's stubborn, critical of Libby's (and her sisters') gifts, and a basic pain in the butt. I sometimes wish Libby didn't end up with him. Regardless, this is a great story albeit a bit predictable.
- I don't know what to say
     By A18ZSMR1DW4VFW on 2006-07-03
This book was a sharp disappointment. Ty, the hero was annoying and whiny. Libby was too good (even her sisters think so). The only real character was Sam and wait until the end for the not so surprising ending. Too much forshadowing about Elle, Hannah and Jolie. I can wait to read their books at the library. All and all don't pay full price for this one.
- Eh... not my favorite.
     By A1XDB3F2T8CR9C on 2006-07-03
Christine Feehan is fantastic at weaving together multiple stories, and leaving you hungry for more. But there in lies the problem with this book...
Although Libby was good and brilliant, she was overshadowed by her sisters Elle and Hannah. Quite frankly, they made Libby seem quite boring. Throughout the book, I was plagued with questions about what was going to happen to Elle and Hannah; I should have been focusing on Libby and Ty. I can't fault Feehan for wanting to leave us breadcrumbs... but she shouldn't have let the side stories overpower the main plot.
Libby's and Ty's characters were blah - Libby's magic didn't make her a unique character at all. Elle and Hannah both have the same ability to heal people. And Ty, although brilliant, is bit too immature for my liking. I kept seeing him as a boy, and not a man.
I'm a big fan of Christine Feehan - but I agree with the reviewer before me - go to the library for this one, or buy it used. You're only going to want to read it once.
- Dangerous Tides
     By ARZK9MWH0E8TS on 2006-07-07
I've only recently picked up a Christine Feehan book by mistake and it's just about the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I have just caught up on the drake sisters series and I eagerly await the next one. Now that I know how wonderful her books are, I will be reading any and everything with her name on it.
- Sloooooooooowwwwww
     By A35PB1PUJUP6OE on 2006-08-31
BORING, very disapointing based on the other books in this sister series that I have read. Didn't care about the hero cared less about the wimpy crybaby heroine. Creepy love scenes, NOT romantic at all. By the end I could understand the villain's need to kill her.
- Glad to see the Drake sisters continue in fine fashion
     By A35FZG9U9IMG91 on 2006-07-01
This story wasn't quite as steamy as Matt and Kate's (Twilight Before Christmas), but it's pretty good. Libby, the doctor, and Ty, the brilliant biochemist, suddenly overcome years of an angst-ridden love-hate relationship after Ty is injured and must really consider the Drake's magical powers. The only thing that concerns me with this book (why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) is the easy way the main characters give up legitimate concerns about the other. I know Libby is supposed to be forgiving, but if a man rudely insults her family, would she really be making out with him 10 seconds later? Despite this, the unity of the Drake sisters (and the way they complement each other, rather than copying one character seven times) is as appealling as usual. Also, Feehan presents numerous possible "bad guys" leaving you with doubts about who has harmful intent to the very end. This book also presents more insight into the Hannah-Jonas and Elle-Jackson relationships, making me anticipate the release of their stories. Overall, good read!
- and it's a hit!
     By A1PAQCSDJRNXGC on 2006-07-02
i really loved the story. with libby's empathy, even when ty insults her and/or her family, she know's that he can be a believer (and she and her sister's make him one). the reason for the 4 stars is because i figured out quickly who the bad guy was. it was kinda apparent. but i loved the people ms. feehan created and watching ty become a believer was fun. the book also gave a closer look to elle and jolie, which we haven't seen before. i'm looking forward to the next in the series.
- Fantastic Story
     By A1X9IDV3NCV5ZA on 2006-07-03
DANGEROUS TIDES is a really sweet romance story. It has it all: sexy love scenes, action, romance, and the unity of family. You can feel the love and affection growing between Libby and Ty. DANGEROUS TIDES adds a great addition to this series. You will enjoy the camaraderie between the sisters and can't help but revisit each sisters love story. I can't wait until Hannah, Joley, and Elle's stories come out.
- Really a 4.5
     By AGTF69P3J1KHI on 2006-07-13
This book deserves a 4.5 but there is no way to enter that. This turned out to be my favorite of the Drake sister series...much to my surprise. I had not warmed to this entire series even though I have read them all. I think I just love the Carpathians so much that the other series seem to take a back seat for me. I don't come from such a large family and have no sisters but I enjoyed the relationship between the sisters very much. The long time relationship between Libby and Ty is very well described and believable. My one criticism that brought the review down from a 5 to the 4.5 was a perceived weakness in Ty in that he took so long to really believe the power of the sister's magic. His very intelligence should have had him realizing the truth much earlier. All in all a great read and it was very hard to put down. I am looking forward to the rest of the sister's stories.
- Feehan does it again!!!
     By A2UNNBGCFDSMJO on 2006-06-30
I have always enjoyed Ms. Feehan's characters (especially the Carpathians), but I am quickly falling in love with the seven sisters feom Sea Haven. Each book just reveals more and more about the character of each sister, and this book was the best so far. Libby's story will suck you in and you won't be able to put the book down. (Although I am personally really looking forward to Joley's and Ilya's story ~ but that won't happen for two more Drake sisters books.)
If you have never read a Drake sisters novel, you are missing out.
- Unbelievable
     By A3PR9QDYAXUC8N on 2006-07-02
I keep waiting for this series to get boring and it definitely hasn't. I'm not going to write a plot summary because others already have or you can look above from Amazon. But the character development in this book was great. It not only let you into Libby and Tyson's lives but the other sisters' lives as well. It foreshadows the future books' main characters also. I loved how Ms. Feehan gave you different looks at who might be doing things to Libby and Ty. I didn't feel this book was wrapped up too quick. I loved the passion from the characters and how they came to know each other through the years of watching each other. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I think even those who don't read paranormal romance would enjoy it.
- Good Book
     By A1KR9MI6O85K85 on 2006-07-05
I enjoyed the latest book in the Drake sisters series. Libby and Abigail's have been the best as they are more involved and complex. Originally, I regreted that Ms. Feehan was wasting time writing this series instead of concentrating on the Carpathian one. Now, I look forward to Hannah's story.
- Okay, but
     By A254MREKMCA778 on 2006-07-16
Although, I have all but a few of Ms. Feehan's books Dangerous Tides did not have that magical Feehan flair. I find Libby Drake to be a bore. If not for Ty's cousin Sam and Ty himself-Libby standing along would not been a good read. Jackson's silence with the occassional banter with Elle was good. Too bad a little more of the future Drake men could not have been added.
- Stimulating read with delectable hints for the future books.
     By A1IA2HOMJJMEAE on 2006-07-31
To start off, I enjoyed the book. Christine Feehan is not what I would call an A+ author for me, and what I mean by that is, she's just not very consistant, at least in my mind. There are some of her books that I think are truly well written and then there are some of her books that make me want to gag, I find them so atrocious.
Luckily, this book was not of the latter. 'Dangerous Tides' is the fourth book of the Drake sisters, and revolves around the fourth sister, Libby Drake. Libby is the self-admitted good girl in the family, being that she just can't seem to be mean - about anything or to anybody.
Libby, who is ashamed of her flat-chest body, has secretly harbored an attraction for Ty Derrick, a fellow arrogant but deliciously hunky genius like yourself. Ty feels the same, and of course, romance pursues.
I didn't intend to find myself enjoying the book so much. When reading the snyopsis, I thought it'd be boring. Just another situation for me to recall when I start judging books by the cover again. Ty and Libby's relationship is very steady and believable, but that is where I hesitate to give it 5 stars - the chemistry wasn't sizzling.
What I really liked most about this book is the references to the future books. Hannah's book is next in line and is going to be released Oct. 2006, and let me tell you, I can't WAIT! Straight from 'Magic in the Wind' I knew the story between Hannah and Jonas was well worth the anticipation.
Not only Hannah, but Joley and Elle's as well. Joley and Illya... Elle and Jackson (a personal yum from my corner of the room)... Feehan has created a series that ranks second best only to her infamous Dark series.
- Drake Sisters
     By A3M1PA1C98XNGN on 2006-08-23
Finally coming home to help with wedding preparations after a long absence overseas, Libby is the 4th oldest sister in the Drake Sisters' series. Libby is a healer, but she sometimes has troubles containing her gift - and wearing herself out in the meantime. Her life has been spent in excelling in school and helping others, and Libby is tired of being `the good sister'. Libby has a compulsion to heal a volunteer rescue worker in the local hospital, a man with whom she competed with in medical school and has resented since. But Libby almost kills herself in saving Ty's life, despite Ty's obvious disdain for the magical Drake abilities. But when more attempts on Ty's life endanger Libby, as well, they overcome their initial dislike of each other to find out who is trying to kill them and why - helping Libby finally become the `bad girl' she's always wanted to be.
- Not my favorite
     By A17YIQZ75DZVV9 on 2006-09-05
This is my first Drake Sisters novel, and I admit Christine Feehan is not my favorite. Still there were a couple of things that drove me nuts about this book. Altough there are multiple attempts on Libby and Ty's lives, they still run around like normal.. No survival skills. Also.. are there no cell phones in Seahaven? What's up with a Millionaire Techie Nerd Genius and every time someone trys to kill him he runs away or sends Libby running for help. Use your cell call 911...duh..
- Great balance between Suspense and Romance
     By A2NDLUULKNTC8W on 2006-09-20
I never read a single book by Christine Feehan before this one, and I must say that I have become a big fan of hers!
This book had so much of everything: Principles and values, romance and sensuality, suspense and action, a great plot, at least 10 awesome characters that make the story that much more pleasant, etc.
Everything was very well-described in the book, which made me enjoy it very much! I could see everything in my mind's eye, thanks to Christine Feehan's way of storytelling.
The only thing that bugged me was that there was no closure on the whole Harry thing, or the drug for cancer, or even a clear-cut explanation about who was following Libby in the car. BUT... it was still an AWESOME book. :)
- I've read better....
     By A1E29194QNFHFG on 2007-07-06
I was not impressed with any of the Drake Sisters series. There was nothing there to keep me wanting to know more about the sisters. It didn't hold my attention. The "magic" was not enough to hold my attention.
Another thing that bothered me is that everyone just took for granted that the sisters had their "magical" powers. They didn't try to hide it and it didn't bother anyone. No one questioned them. Maybe secrecy would have made the series more interesting.
I was definitely not impressed. I'm hoping the Dark Series will be better, but from what I know about them, they seem like a ripoff of the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I guess I'll have to see.
- My first Feehan book and my last
     By A2H0LK41FGZ2GI on 2007-10-11
This book was just annoying to me. Maybe because every other page had one of the seven sisters showing up randomly and interrupting the story line. Maybe because I expected this book to be about one heroine, and instead the whole thing kept branching off to tell bits about the other sisters' and their lovers' lives. I'm sorry, but isn't that what the other books are for, if this is indeed a Drake Sisters series? Also, this was billed as an erotic suspense book, and it was not. The romance was blah and didn't even kick in until the end of the book. At that point I was skimming the pages. The story did not draw me in, the plot was so dull that I don't even know what it really was, and the protagonists were unappealing.
- A terrific Drake sisters installment!
     By A3N61N91YEIZ47 on 2006-06-29
Ever since "Oceans of Fire" I have eagerly awaited the novel on the next youngest Drake sister, Dr. Libby Drake. Ms Feehan has outdone herself! First of all, this is a wonderfully touching love story between two people who are both "brains" or "geeks" and secondly, a mystery story of who wants one or both of them dead! There are also a couple underlying stories that also add to the suspense and plot twisting.
The story begins with Drew Madison, a young man with leukemia mentioned in previous Drake books, climbing over a fence and starting down the cliffs above the Ocean near Sea Haven. The roiling water is fascinating him and it is raining, windy and he may even be crying. His almost inevitable fall is witnessed by Pete, Kate's fiance's Matt's younger brother, who immediately calls the sheriff department.
A helicopter/fireman rescue is called in and part of the crew consists of biochemist and volunteer rescue crew, Tyson Derrick and his cousin, Sam Chapman. Tyson is the lucky one to be lowered to assess and with another crew member load Drew into a basket. As Drew and Tyson are going up on the rope, Tyson's harness breaks and he falls thirty feet to the rocks, critically injured.
The excitement, drama and tender as well as sensual romance throughout this story along with surprising plot turns make for an extremely enjoyable and satisfying read! We really get to know Libby and Tyson in depth along with more info on Hannah, Joley and Elle as the final three pairings start to appear.
I'm not sure I can wait for the next installment!!
- Fabulous
     By A39FXC0YJP1Q5F on 2006-07-01
This book was well worth the wait!!! I love the Drake sister stories, and this book was no exception. There was drama, excitement, passion, and most of all the love of the sisters. I read this book in one sitting (a long one) as I could not put it down. The love Ty has for Libby is just awesome and it was portrayed so well I often had tears in my eyes. Kudos!!!!! Can't wait for the next one.
- excellent Drake sisters' tale
     By AFVQZQ8PW0L on 2006-07-05
Dr. Libby Drake uses her healing gift to restore to health injured biochemist Ty Derrick, suffering from a head trauma, but for the first time a reaction occurs and she almost dies. When Ty recovers he rejects outright that Libby and her sisters can perform magic. Both are attracted to one another in spite of his scorning her skill and though he is short and abrasive towards everyone including her, she senses a caring heart.
When an unknown assailant tries to kill the couple, they wonder who the intended victim is, she or him. The Drake siblings feel strongly that something evil is coming their way so conclude that they, including Libby, are the target, but she wonders if Ty due to his work might be the real object of a malevolent killer growing stronger.
DANGEROUS TIDES is an excellent Drake sisters' tale due to the fascinating relationship between the witch and the scientist; however, interestingly the passion between them at times places the action on the back burner. Still Christine Feehan provides a strong story line that moves rather quickly forward as the lead couple "battle" one another before the real battle begins. Newcomers will want to read the previous Drake thrillers (see OCEANS OF FIRE and MAGIC IN THE WIND).

- JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER
     By AO880M77HKH5C on 2006-08-12
This was the best sister book so far and the hinting she does for future books makes them look even better.
The interaction between Libby and Ty is very romantic. The story just flows and before you know it you've finished the book in 1 day-I certainly did!
The way the sisters made Ty believe in their magic was hilarious. Read this book it's definitely a keeper.
- Feehan's great!
     By A1JY6MVZUYEC41 on 2007-01-16
I love her dark series, as well as the Drake sisters, and the Ghostwalkers, and I love how she makes everything so real, and how we can visualize what is happening.
- Great Read!
     By A3E0C9G23AL1BW on 2007-05-09
This was the first of the Drake Sisters novels that I purchased, and I liked it so much that I went backwards to read ther sisters before. This novel of Libby and her "supposed" nemisis Ty Derrick is both romantic and suspenseful. The realationships of the sisters is amazing. This is a wonderful read. I can not wait for Hannah and Jonas.
- Editor needs to be fired
     By A1JEAIXTM5GRAM on 2007-09-15
This is a mildly entertaining book as are most of Feehan's works. My main problem is that the editing department of Jove must have assumed that since she is a successful author that she knows how to spell. Carabineer (someone who carries a carbine rifle) used multiple times instead of Carabiner (D shaped safety ring) and Asmith which isn't even a word instead of azimuth. Those kinds of errors are inexcusable at this level and take away from enjoying the book. There were several contradictions at the beginning also. The ground rescue crew fails at a high angle cliff rescue, then the helicopter crew on the next page decides that would be unsafe for them to do when they wouldn't be doing a cliff rescue. Can you say cranking these out on autopilot?
