    (27 reviews)
Best Price: $8.99
In our hectic era, who has time to spend hours in the kitchen creating tasty, healthful meals? Yet when we try to eat fast, we almost always resort to eating fat (think: fast food). This indispensable cookbook from one of the most trusted names in the health field breaks the fast-fat connection. Nearly every one of its mouthwatering, low-fat, low-cholesterol recipes can be prepared in under 30 minutes. Here is the opportunity for millions of Americans to start living the more healthful lifestyle they know they should.
It's easy to fall into high-fat, fast-food habits when we're busy, and who isn't busy? The American Heart Association has a solution: 200 recipes that are tasty, healthful, low-fat, and fast. The recipes--conveniently spiral-bound--take 20 minutes or less preparation time, and most take just a few minutes of additional cooking time. (Some require more cooking time, but you don't have to hover over them.) Don't skip breakfast when you can make Cinnamon-Bran Pancakes (total time: 11 to 14 minutes), Stuffed French Toast (16 to 18 minutes), or a Banana-Kiwi Breakfast Shake (5 minutes) in less time than it takes to pick up a muffin on your way to work. Your family or guests won't guess you whipped up dinner in a hurry when you make Pasta-Crusted Fish with Marinara Sauce (15 minutes), Sherried Seafood Sauté (15 minutes), or Skillet Chicken Thighs with Dried Berries (20 minutes). The book has an assortment of one-dish meals like Salmon and Brown Rice Bake, Black Bean Lasagna, and Chicken with Broccoli and Bulgur. There are also appetizers, vegetables, breads, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. All recipes include preparation time, cooking time, and nutritional information: calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat (total, saturated, polyunsaturated, monounsaturated), cholesterol, and sodium. Yummy photographs decorate the book. --Joan Price

Great Resource! By on 2000-04-24
I went to my doctor recently, and found out that I have a cholesterol level of 236. I am 26 years old, and heart disease runs in my family, so this didn't surprise me (although I can't say I was pleased). I went looking for some resources on heart healthy recipes (I love to cook, because I love to eat!). I bought this book to try, and I am so happy I did! I have tried some of the recipes, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Surprisingly, the taste is amazing! My favorite so far is the Roased Asparagus & Mushrooms - yummy! So many times you find things that are healthy are not necesssarily good-tasting, and that is NOT the case with this book. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought the 25th Anniversary Edition AHA cookbook. Happy
VERY GOOD AND HELPFUL BOOK By on 2001-08-27
After my husband suffered a heart attack 4 months ago, I became very interested in finding tasty ways to cooked good food for us. I immediately went online and found this book and ordered it. I was hoping to at least find a recipe or two I could use. I was amazed at how many recipes sounded good and tasted even better. I did not have to look any farther for any other cookbook. I now have at least 10 or 12 meals that I can prepare and feel very satisfied. The greatest part of all is that all of the recipes are very quick and easy. They can usually all be prepared after I get home from work and we are now eating better than we have every eaten. My husband and I only wish that it didn't take a heart attack for us to find this recipe book. I highly recommend this recipe book for anyone who are looking for good and tasty food that just happens to be good for you.
The recipes in this book are terrific and fast. By on 1999-03-15
The recipes in this book are fast and taste great! Usually low fat cooking is very time consuming but the recipes in this book are much quicker. I recommend this for anyone watching their diet but still craves great tasting food!
Wonderful book!! By on 2001-06-01
I received this book about 2 weeks ago and love it! The recipes are easy, healthy, tasty and quick. Many recipes do not contain too many items which is great. I've already made and enjoyed the tabbouleh, Hawaiian chicken, pork tenderloin with mushrooms, meatless tamale pie, rosemary lamb chops, and poultry pot pies. I look forward to trying more recipes. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to cook tasty and healthy foods.
This is a great book By A2YKHGJRWZ2NJ5 on 2002-12-09
I have to give it 4 stars because it doesn't have any pictures. I am basically a picture person - I like to see what the end result should look like. I have tried other low fat cook books before and have been alittle disappointed with them all. I found only a few recipes that I ended up liking and still occasionally use. I tried have tried 5 recipes from this book so far, and so far they have been very good. The recipes have plenty of seasoning in them so they don't taste bland. And some of the recipes are common sense ones that use the old rule of substitution ie - instead of oil use apple sauce, instead of sour cream use fat free yogurt etc. In any case this book is definately a good buy at a good price. I would definately recommend it.

My young husband had a heart a attack and with a new baby we have plenty of motivation to eat heart healthy. Someone bought this book for us and we cook from it every night. The recipies are easy, with few, easily found ingredients and tasty too. We are buying them for all of our family for Christmas - last year we sent them steaks!
- good recipes but no pictures
     By ABO58N7S1XP4I on 2005-08-19
These recipes are great and healthful. The lack of pictures is a negative. It would be nice to see how the finished dish is supposed to look.
In addition, the nutritional breakdown is nice, but the book does not tell you what constitutes a serving size so that makes knowing the number of calories/fat/carbs useless.
- Simple and Tasty
     By A3F3H2EKQDEX6K on 2006-08-14
This cookbook is worth every penny. My husband's recent heart problems has forced him to a lo-cal, lo-cholesterol and lo-fat diet for the first time in his 60 years. We have enjoyed each recipe and, as the chief cook, I find them easy to put together. Living in a small town, ingredients can be very hard to find. This is not the case with "Quick and Easy". It lives up to its name.
- EASY recipes!
     By AA4NXA2IUUZLR on 2005-08-07
This cookbook has the fastest, easiest recipes I've seen in a long time. I haven't found anything that isn't good in it, and the ingredient lists aren't so long to make the recipes intimidating.

I have decided to change my lifestyle and eating habits for a healthier mind and body. The recipes in this book are not your average diet recipes - they are delicious and easy and I've already lost 7 lbs in 3 weeks. I'm thrilled!
- Yucky!!!!

I would rather eat grass! These may be healthy, but we tried 5 recipes and found all 5 unedibly bad!

Quick and Easy, All of the recipies in this book are that! They are also realistic, normal recipies that people eat. Nutrition Info on each recipe is also helpful for those that are watching their weight too! Try the Cheesy Oven Fried Chicken!
- One of the best cookbooks I own - and I own a lot!!

I'm a new mom, working full time, who barely knew how to cook a few plain items. I got this cookbook from my Dad for Christmas, and it is amazing! Not only are the recipes simple and wonderful, but I even have time to make dinner while the baby plays in his bouncy seat! From Chili to Pesto "fried" chicken, to Cornmuffinwiches, both my husband and I LOVE this book! I even made my first bread from scratch and it only took maybe 15 minutes. It also seems to be compatible with the South Beach Diet, which I've been on for three weeks (down 10 lbs!)
- Except for the lack of pictures.....
     By A1199A3LIW6W3V on 2007-05-28
this is an excellent cookbook. A lot of few ingredient recipes, and lots of recipes that don't call for exotic ingredients. I hate finding a good recipe and then there's that one ingredient that I don't have on hand, or worse yet, one that I have to go to a gourmet store to find. None of that in this book!
- Yummy Food!
     By A12OT460XOVN76 on 2007-05-21
This is an excellent cookbook! It even includes kid friendly recipes - pancakes, chicken, cookies, krispy treats, etc. The selection is excellent and we haven't found a recipe we didn't like!
- Not User Friendly
     By ARW5OF50K4CMI on 2007-02-16
Good recipes...but, not user-friendly. It would be nice to lay the book flat. Why can't publishing companies SPIRAL-BIND cookbooks? This is one of my pet peeves! Thanks for listening.
- Amazing recipes

Contains amazing recipes that are healthy and delicious, and also fit in with some well-known diets (e.g. South Beach).

- Good book
     By A8CLUYSSFLUU6 on 2007-01-09
I bought this when my husband was diagnosed with some heart issues. It is a good book but I have found that I'm not much of a cook book cooker. I normally dash home after work and throw something together that we both like and is tasty. The things I have made out of this book were good and we both like them but just didn't end up in our usual rotation.

Book needs pictures for high school students to see what the recipe will look like when made.
- A wonderful cookbook

The recipes I have tried have been wonderful, and fast and easy. The Fitness Flan has become a family favorite
- Great Ideas
     By A27MKYSBIS390Q on 2008-05-19
This book has really great ideas, but you need to remember to watch the amount of carbs... The American Heart Association does recommend a diet that is higher in carbs...
