Boynton's Greatest Hits: Volume 1 (Boynton, Sandra. Boynton Board Books.)x$13.22
    (48 reviews)
Best Price: $21.95 $13.22
The ultimate set for Boynton fans, here are four of her seriously silly bestselling board books in their own sturdy boxed set. Full-color illustrations.
Artist Sandra Boynton has been charming adults for decades with her whimsical, animal-centric greeting cards and her droll sense of humor. When Boynton transferred her weirdly wonderful critters to board books for babies, she made publishing history. These short, hilarious books are perfectly suited to toddler tastes, with their small size, few words, cheerful colors, funny jokes, and silly animals. Blue Hat, Green Hat is all about getting dressed, and stars a very silly turkey who just doesn't get it. (Feet in the hat, pants on the head, etc.) His continuing refrain is "Oops." Moo, Baa, LA LA LA! investigates the sounds animals make, including pigs who sing. Doggies is "a counting and barking book" about the many sounds dogs can make, and A to Z frolics through the alphabet with amusing animal antics from an aardvark admiring to a zebra zigzagging. Parents love Boynton as much as kids do, and these four books in a compact boxed set will no doubt become household favorites! (Baby to age 3) --Marcie Bovetz

Wonderful books, but Greatest Hits 2 is better By A3HZY4QLFYDXE0 on 2005-02-06
We love the Sandra Boynton books. This four-book set is a great starter set. Our son, one year old, likes these books more and more as he gets older. They are fun for us to read to him, and he enjoys the pictures. The drawings are very clear (not like some of the books that we have where the illustration is more like watercolor) and that makes it easy for him to tell what he's looking at. I feel like that makes these books better for learning the names of the animals, colors, etc.
All those positive things said, I personally like the titles in the Greatest Hits 2 box set better. Those four tell better stories. These four are not as narrative, with the possible exception of "Moo, Baa, La La La." "A to Z" is an alphabet book with animals, which is not narrative at all. "Doggies" is really fun because it lets you make barking noises, and our son loves the book, but again, it's not really a story. "Blue Hat, Green Hat" depicts a cute story (a turkey who doesn't know how to put clothes on properly -- wears his shoe on his head, for instance), but it has few words, so it lacks the terrific sing-songy rhythm that I love in Boynton's other books.
These are good books, but if you want to experience the best of Boynton, consider Greatest Hits 2 instead of (or in addition to!) this one.
The BEST author for little bits!!! By AYUYDKZIHVPYX on 2003-11-04
When our oldest (now 6) was 3 months old we happened upon Moo, Baa, La La La, bought it and we are now, two kids later on our fourth copy! We of course bought more and more Boynton books, and just got Philadelphia Chickens for the girls as a Christmas gift! (It includes a CD of songs- it's GREAT!) I found that whatever topics we had Boynton books on, like colors and types of clothing (Blue Hat, Green Hat), animal sounds (Moo, Baa, La La La), parts of the body (Horns to Toes), my daughters knew very early. Boynton book are funny, have bright and engaging graphics, and educational value! But, the greatest thing about her books is that not only will your kids love them, but you will love them! They are my favorite books to read to them too! And my kids didn't grow out of them as quickly as most of the board books. In fact, when my oldest was learning to read we used them and she now reads them to her baby sister. In my opinion, I think that Sandra Boynton is on the same level of skill and talent as Dr. Suess. I have purchased at least one Boynton book for every baby shower I have gone to in the past five years, and I hope that everyone will discover how wonderful these books are.
Love Boynton's Books!!! By AH092FMEK17EL on 1998-12-31
What I love best about Sandra Boynton's board books is that they are fun for both my son to hear and for me to read. Our long-time favorite was "Moo Baa LALALA" - at 17 months, my son could recite every one of the animal sounds (well, except the pig). The only down-side of this set is the "Doggies" book. My husband and I hid this one because we detested reading it - all the barking, howling, whining, arfing, and woofing was tiresome.
Great fun for "children at heart" of all ages By on 2000-05-02
This is a wonderful series of books that enables toddlers to "read" at a very young age. The humor is ageless, and I always give this set as a gift to first-time parents, to ensure that they know about Boynton's books. Although I love them all, I have a special fondness for "Doggies" which must be read with expression to be enjoyed! Trying to manipulate those barks is great fun. My daughter's personal favorite is "But Not tThe Hippopotamus", my son loves "Moo, Baa, La La La", and we all giggle at "Blue Hat, Green Hat". Although my kids have outgrown board books (at 13 and 17) we have never put away the Boynton books, as we enjoy going back to them for the respite and pleasure they continue to afford all of us! (Yes, the kids admit that they still love these books! ) Set yourself free, and enjoy!
We like Volume Two better By on 2002-11-07
Okay, I have to admit I haven't read A to Z and only checked out Doggies from the library. Don't take my rating wrong, we LOVE Boynton, but these aren't our favorites. Volume Two would be preferred in our house with Horns to Toes and the Going to Bed Book. Our top-rated Boynton books for a collection would be Horns to Toes, One Two Three!, The Going to Bed Book, Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs, Pajama Time, Barnyard Dance, and Moo Baa La La La.
- Wonderful rhymes and illustrations for young children!
     By on 1999-06-15
The Sandra Boynton books are wonderful for babies and toddlers! As a mother, I never tire of reading them and my toddler never tires of hearing them. The fun rhymes, whimsical illustrations and simple themes keep us very entertained. They are great gifts for new Moms.
- A Disappointment
     By AOZ8BARUR4LIH on 2005-05-05
I was disappointed with volume 1. My daughter has The Going To Bed Book and Hippos Go Beserk! which the whole family loves. The books in volume 1 are boring and aren't as fun as many of Sandra Boynton's other books.
- If only adult books were more fun...
     By on 1999-07-30
I laughed out loud when I read "Blue Hat, Green Hat" in the store. My husband thought I was nuts, but the little kids in the children's section thought it was pretty funny, too.
- Gotta have 'em.
     By ABVHEG3RWOGOF on 2003-08-03
My first two ladies (now 5.5 years and 4.5 years old) loved these books to death, literally, so I'll be replacing them (both Volumes One and Two) soon after the current Wiggle arrives. We all loved "Doggies" - "Nine doggies on a moonlit night AaaaaaOOOOOOOooooooo" - what fun to read! The ladies loved "The Oops Book" - Blue Hat, Green Hat - as well, because that crazy turkey just *didn't get it*. All of Sandra Boynton's books are wonderful, though.I've been doing my best to make sure that every baby *I* know has these books in his library; everyone else should do the same.
- My Baby Laughed
     By A18OV3GF980G5M on 2003-10-31
We were at a local playgroup and they read Blue Hat, Green Hat. My 7-month old son laughed out loud. He had laughed before, but I think this was the first time he laughed without direct eye contact or being tickled. After playgroup I inquired -- Sandra who?? I hadn't heard of these books, but have since purchased several. My baby is now 2 and has a 4-month old brother. These books have become very popular favorites for reading time in our home. I wonder how old our new baby will be when he laughs at the "silly chicken".
- Fabulously nonsensical
     By on 1998-11-18
I love Boynton's children's books. Most of the children in my life have received her titles as gifts. Moo is the perfect injection of silliness into the world of animal sounds. A to Z has great illustrations. Doggies will expand your knowledge of dog noises beyond woof woof. And Blue Hat, Green Hat is silly while reassuring that everyone makes mistakes in dressing every once in awhile.
- Excellent package!
     By AVIUE8EGMWGNM on 2001-09-29
This is a great set of books. My three month old loves to look at the pictures as I read her the words. They keep her very intereted.
- Boynton is an excellent children book writer
     By on 2002-07-07
My daughter enjoys all her books. I started reading them to her since she was 3 months old. Out of this series, we love Moo, Baa, La La La! the best.Barnyard Dance by Boynton is a book you should definitely buy!
- Good books but NOT sturdy
     By A30JXUEZ84ML80 on 2005-09-28
My son loved these books! But one by one, he has destroyed them all by breaking the spines and losing the pages. He's not exceptionally rough with books, just loves them to death. We found the larger size books, like Barnyard Dance and Oh My, Oh My, Oh Dinosaurs and Birthday Monsters have held up much better. We love her stories, but these bigger books are the only ones we have left.
- Very beloved books
     By A19MTU4KT4WQ6 on 2005-11-04
My son (now 4) has loved these books for two years. Moo, baa, la la la has literally had the cover worn off it from reading.
While today they are not the great favorites they once were they are still returned to on a regular basis so I do not dare move them off his book shelf.
The fun story and rhymes, colorful pictures, and overall playfulness make this a fun read for parents as well as children.
I often use this package for gifts to share the fun!
- Wonderful collection of books by Boynton
     By A2ZVAOF6RNPK9S on 2005-01-31
We gave these to our daughter for her 1st birthday and she loved them. Three months later we are still reading them to her over and over. They are excellent books!
- My son LOVES these!
     By A1OT5FPWMW4O5I on 2005-07-21
My 2 yr old son wants to read Blue Hat, Green Hat every night before bed. He gets to read OOPS! on every page! Also, Doggies gets him laughing every time. Moo,Baa LA LA LA is pure silliness. I didn't give the set 5 stars because My son could care less about the A to Z book. It has alot of big words that he cant yet wrap his brain around. For example the first Page is: A is for: Aardvark's Admiring.....What happened to Apples and Ants?? Although as he gets bigger he'll probably love the big words. All in all it's great humor parents and kids can love.
- Mommy C's Review
     By A2FG58E9OTJ4I4 on 2005-08-09
I really love these books and so does my daughter (2 yrs). They are fun and silly but she also learns from them. I also love the size of the books - they fit little hands perfectly. I actually don't mind reading these books over and over.
- "Serious silliness"
     By A2OSE044FUFPIW on 2005-10-21
These four books are serious silliness as the back of the box set claims. My husband and I really enjoy reading them to our 4 mos old daughter (especially "Moo, Baa, LA LA La!") and know she'll love them as much as we do when she gets older.
- Let a kid be a kid...
     By A1UIG80DXWUZJZ on 2005-12-28
I love these books, as does my son. He is 2 and enjoys the silly rymes and it helps him figure out the animals that are in the book. I can read to my son at night and we can have fun doing it. I read one other review where the mother was not happy that a NINE MONTH OLD was not pleased with these books. This is not college. I like these books because they do allow kids to be silly and develop a sense of humor. Kids aren't allowed to be silly anymore. I think the best benefit that you will get out of these books as you can laugh together and actually spend quatlity time with your child reading to them.
- MEMORABLE, GREAT books!
     By A38ZJJ3BVQ33ZU on 2006-07-24
My son is 16 years old. We bought Sandra Boynton's books when he was a baby. The illustrations are funny and they are easy to read aloud in a funny, exaggerated way. Our son loved Boynton's books so much that, 14 years later, my husband and I can STILL recite "Moo Baa La La La." We buy them for all our friends who have babies.
There is no greater gift you can give a child than a love of reading. These were a great start for our son and for many of our friends' kids.
- Fantastic fun!!!
     By A1BHM1U0QB5Z47 on 2006-08-10
Boynton's books are WONDERFUL! We bought this set after being given several of her books as gifts. I checked a few more out of the library and had to get copies of our own. The pictures are so delightful and funny! Our 4 month old isn't necessarily into the pictures, but she loves to hear the books read to her!
- A Perfect Gift
     By A2HWAFUS4M8788 on 2007-01-12
I have bought this collection of some of Sandra Boynton's greatest hits for baby shower gifts as well as birthday gifts to very young people. The illustrations are wonderful, the text is catchy and I love them as much as the kids do! I have found they are easy for the kids to memorize, too, which is a good first step in learning to read.
- A excellent collection of toddler/baby books!
     By A2RNUPVSNW1ZXX on 2001-11-28
My 15 month old loves these books. I went beserk and bought my baby over 100 books when she was born. At 15 months these Boynton books continue to be her very favorites. They have cute colorful animations of animals that make her laugh. She has a special thing she does to the animals she likes most, she presses her face against the book and gives them when looks like a kiss. I call it giving them the "treatment" So far she onyl gives the treatment to Boynton characters. It is a very special thing to get! She really enjoys these books, and they all read like songs with a catchy ryhme that keeps her attention. And at 15 months, being a highly active toddler, these books are the only ones she will sit still too. Barnyarn Dance and The Goes To Bed Book are her favorites as well.
- Kids love 'em...and so do I!
     By A1315NYDGT5VYQ on 2001-12-01
I have a 3 1/2 year old niece. Since she was born I have been reading these books to her and she still absolutely LOVES them. They contain cute catchy rhymes and have taught her colors, letters of the alphabet and really, just how to enjoy books. I recommend them strongly to friends with kids or aunts and uncles for their precious nieces and nephews. I will be purchasing them for my newest nephew soon.
- WONDERFUL books!
     By A3TZI4TWV30SQ6 on 2002-04-24
Our 9 month old daughter loves these books! Very cute, colorful & silly. Parents must buy these books for their babies. :)
- Boynton Books are over overated
     By A1W9NP88DM18X on 2005-09-15
I bought this set for my 9 month old daughter after reading all of the rave reviews. I was excited to order the set but was dissapointed when they arrived. These books are not written well at all and the illustrations leave a lot to be desired. Honestly, anyone could have written these books. None of the books make any sense, have any real meaning or teach anything to children. The illustrations are not eye catching like they are in "Goodnight Moon". My daughter displays absolutely no interest for these books at all. She does have other books that she enjoys. There is no real benefit to reading these books to your child. If you love books like "Goodnight Moon", these books are not for you. The only benefit my child gets from these books now is she uses them to teeth on.
- Bought for a gift
     By A3C4WC7VPTVAAV on 2006-02-22
I bought these books for a friend's son. He was really excited to get them.
- Good set of books
     By A1U23N6QY4DX4D on 2006-02-24
I like these books, and so does my daughter. They are a good set to add to her growing collection.
- toddler delight!
     By A3W3Y4H4B9C1OW on 2006-02-25
My two year old granddaughter loved these books! She insisted we read them all 3x before putting them up. Mo, Baa, LA LA La! and Doggies were her favorites. She easily remembered the stories and helped me read them when looking at the pages since the stories and words were simple and entertaining. A must have for little ones!
