My daughter loves this book! By A2LFNP0J4BIZVL on 2004-12-02
We have all the Karen Katz books, but my daughter (17 mos) seems particularly attached to this one, perhaps because the babies are doing things she does. It's really fun to read it to her because she relates to the baby on each page: hungry baby who wants a bottle, sad baby who has a boo-boo, cranky baby who is crying, and finally, sleepy baby who is nestling down for the night (or nap). The illustrations are lovely and the paper is heavy and survives many a firm baby grasp. A great shower gift and a good one for anybody's baby library.
You'll love it, if you use baby-talk with your child. By A2LS5MN9NL8LJN on 2004-12-18
I love Karen Katz books (Where's Baby's Belly Button? Daddy and Me, Where's Baby's Mommy, Counting Kisses). This one has the same great pictures and durable format as the books we love. However, all the words under the flaps are in baby-talk (goo goo, boo boo, ba ba, night night etc). Since we never talk to our baby using those words, this book is a disappointment for us.
Goo Goo Ba Ba Bleh Bleh By A2SHF7LXZ1XR09 on 2005-04-28
What DOES baby say? Not much! Although I'm fond of Ms. Katz's "Where is Baby's Belly Button" I was horrified by this book. What baby "says" is not one real word in the whole volume. What is the point of teaching your child that some babies say "ba ba" for bottle? Emerging speech is going to sound different on every toddler. If YOUR baby says "ba ba" for bottle-- that's absolutely terrific but you should follow it up with "RIGHT! SMART GIRL! THE BOTTLE!" and not repeat the baby talk. Baby talk is fine... as long as it comes from the baby.
I promptly returned this book.
Not all babies use a bottle! By A2NL38HCV13BWP on 2005-02-28
Overall, I really like this book. But, as a nursing Mom, I find it frustrating when so many baby books show babies asking for a bottle. In this one, it says, "What does a hungry baby say?" and you lift the flap to see a baby drinking from a bottle saying "Ba-Ba." That page didn't make sense to my son. Not that I expect to see a picture of a nursing baby, but I just think she could have shown a baby being spoon-fed and say something like, "Num-num". But, we still enjoy the book.
My Children LOVE This Book By AKIZXTCBK5B7S on 2006-03-16
Okay, so it won't turn your child into an oratory genius! My kids have consistently loved this book and if they'd rather read a book than whine for a video I will not complain. The beautifully and boldly illustrated book is in typcial lift the flap format. Each page asks a question "what does baby say" and the answer is underneath. When baby is sad he says "boo hoo" and when he is tired he says "night night". Your toddlers will love screaming out the answers and pretending to be babies again.
Other books by this author I highly recommend are the book about Manners, Where is Baby's Mommy, and Wiggle Your Toes.
- Flaps rip too easily!
     By ATNH58J7EZXUT on 2006-05-21
Though the illustrations are cute and the content is fine, these othersized and lightweight flaps rip VERY easily. We've not even had them 1 month and the book is in poor condition from regular use that other flap books do fine. Cannot recommend this one! We are very disappointed.
- GREAT FOR THE NEW BABY
     By AIMXN8DQW9SFY on 2007-01-10
What Does Baby Say is a lot of fun for baby with the "peek-a-boo" flap you lift while you tell the story.Soon baby will lift the flap for you at the right time. An excellent opportunity to have fun and learn!
- another wonderful book
     By AZZVOB0B882KK on 2007-01-06
We love these series of books. My only complaint is that the flap paper is thin and my girls have ripped pages in all of the books (we even bought another copy of "Where's Baby's Belly Button" because of it). Other than that - great book.
- PAPER CUT!!! PARENTS BEWARE!!
     By A20W6651VKJ62X on 2007-04-17
Usually I am a "Happy Consumer"... NOT THIS TIME. My 13 month daughter loves flap books and loves to sit quietly and flip through books. This book left a DEEP paper cut on my child's thumb and blood all over book!!!!!!! Although she did not cry, I was horrified!!!!! Parents beware! Do yourself a favor and buy books that have the thicker pages/ flaps for this age group. Be sure to inspect books like this for sharp edges.
- Fun Book

This is a great book to read to your baby, just don't let him or her eat it!!
My daughter loves it and pays attention b/c she recognizes all the "words"!
- beautiful & bright & fun for baby

- It's Just OK
     By ACT964K0FHLJ3 on 2006-04-02
I love Karen Katz's other books but was a bit disappointed with this one. I'm not a big fan of teaching baby talk so I find this book to be of little value. "What does the busy baby say? Uh-oh." Other than the large print, my baby does not find this particular book as interesting as the other ones. WHERE IS BABY'S MOMMY? is a lot better than this one.
- Great book
     By A1CC61YGKEKE6M on 2006-07-03
My 15 month old loves it, the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 because the flaps can be a bit hard to lift. My son loves all of Karen Katz's books, this one is really good for the younger set!
- A great, fun read
     By AO3R5THGE3WUZ on 2007-01-03
We have read this book to our son since he was born, and now that he is 5 months old, he is really enjoying the "flap" aspect. The sentence structure is easy and I think my son will enjoy reading this on his own, as well.
- Great series of books

My son and I love these lift-the-flap books. He is 1 1/2 and really enjoys the flaps and the stories!
- Great

My 18 month daughter really enjoys reading this book because she could actaully read this book she knows all the answers to what the baby says its really cute and I think helps them try to talk more
- My toddler loves it
     By A30QBPIG31O8WW on 2007-05-14
She's had it for over a month, and loves to have it read to her again and again. After having it read to her the first dozen or so times, she anticipates what we find when we lift some of the flaps, and loves hearing that she's right. Nice little book.
- Ok book
     By A163JQ25C4ZCZL on 2007-08-04
My son loves the lift-the-flap books, and the book itself is cute. The words in the book feature "gaga" and "googoo", so I didn't really like reading this to my son, as I was trying to teach him real words.
- I love these books!
     By A1ZUR8QXHW6JBZ on 2007-08-04
My 5 month old son loves this book along with the other books I have by Karen Katz. It keeps his attention and is fun.
- Not as nice as some of her other books
     By A2CXAUZN04H6EO on 2007-08-27
Some of the "baby says" are not realistic. Who's hungry baby says "ba-ba"? I guess my son didn't drink from a bottle long enough, but he always refers to food as "yum-yum". Also, some of the flaps cover the whole page and are very difficult to lift.
