Great book By A1KM08USDOMAL9 on 2002-05-25
I had to read this book for Life Span development at the graduate level. Considering this is a topic that I find dry and borring, this book was excellent and I enjoyed reading it. It covers Biosocial,Cognitive and Psychosocial development for all stages of life leading up to death with lots of charts, discriptions, and a side bar of definition terminology.
The Developing Person Through the Lifespan By on 2001-04-16
I have used previous editions of this book and find it a fantastic resource. The publisher has wonderful adjunct materials available for teaching if the book is adopted for classroom use. The book is well organized and the new edition has both a study guide and observational videos available which improve over the 4th edition. Kudos on this revision!!
Great CLEP resource By A1LJ4PVSRU8QMT on 2002-05-24
I used this text for my Human Development CLEP and I passed it with flying colors. I would recommend it for CLEP review. It does have its faults though, not enough diversity and lacks a variety of actual tests/studies in the field - which showed me a weak spot in my CLEP review.
Excellent Text By A3D3G6SWK4VO84 on 2003-07-21
Although this text does lack in diversity, I felt that the content was written in a very easy to comprehend manner. This is a great book for someone who has never had any previous human development or psychology exposure, as it often states the obvious. I used this text for an independent study course with no lecture, so the content I was tested over was straight from the book. This is not a textbook to be intimidated by or even evoke dread of having to use this for a course you will be taking. I think you will be pleasantly surprised once you open it and really start to read it.
Not that great... By AQ6E7EG6QYN7Q on 2008-03-08
I was truly looking forward to my Lifespan and Development class until I looked at this book. Yes, it is helpful in that it has important terms on the margins. However, many times is does not into enough detail with a lot of psych issues. There are little blurbs or paragraphs about some things, but it mainly a repetiton of theories (Biosocial, Psychoanalytic, Behaviorist, Cognitive...) from Intro to Psych. It does not get into specifics about anything. The book can also be confusing in how it presents the information. I am alarmed by how very narrow minded the author(s) of the book are about psychology in different cultures. Most of the chapters have little (if nothing at all) about cultural differences in childrearing, dicipline technniques, nutrition, aging, etc. It is all based on American ideals of how kids should be raised and what it is to be normal. Where are the other viewpoints? I am very disappointed with this book and the class in general. I was looking forward to so much more.
- Well developed book
     By A3UG357A1XXVQG on 2005-10-09
This book was needed for a college course. It was well developed and researched. The information is current and should be a must for all high school or college students. It explains the fundamentals of a humans lifespan. It is a positive, well written, informative book!

- Great read
     By A3D63K4F3Y2YLD on 2009-08-06
I took an introductory Developmental Psychology class during 7 weeks of summer school. This book is really easy and interesting to read, so finishing the whole book for summer school did not put me to sleep at all. What was really helpful were the personal experiences and case studies the author adds to make the concepts more concrete. The "Observations" and "Response for" tabs on the margins of the book (ex: response for future nurses or teachers or parents) also fosters learning and understanding the material.
- Worthwhile book
     By A2ZVD08BL5LZJP on 2008-11-29
I am taking a psychology class on line using this book. I was anxious for the class to start as I thought the subject material would be interesting. It is, and the book is well written and informative. However, now that the class is in its last 3 or 4 weeks, I'm getting a little tired.
Each section is covered in 3 chapters. For example, for adolescence you have a chapter about the biological changes, then about the cognitive changes, then about the psychological changes of that stage of life. After going through almost the whole book like that, I'm a little bored. Also - I don't know if all copies are affected, but for our class, which is using the paperback 7th edition, the publisher did not provide our instructor with an updated set of test questions. So the test questions we have been getting for all 6 tests we've had so far correspond to the 6th edition, not the 7th. This means that the test is supposed to cover chapters 20, 21, and 22, for instance, but it also contains questions from text as much as 100 pages past that!
- Decent, but had a lot of fluff
     By A2XXZGLXR17UYS on 2007-08-28
For me this book was required for a class. I guess it wasn't bad but I felt like I had to pick through all their example stories to find any of the real content. So much was case studies of one child or another. And most of the case studies were in themselves mostly fluff.
- Easy Read
     By A3HWHA40RS7XJT on 2010-07-12
This book was well-written and entertaining. I enjoyed the author's personal information throughout the book.
- I got the wrong book.
     By A28V751OH7Q1E1 on 2010-05-11
I ordered a text book for my psy class and specified I wanted express delivery. Paid double the shipping so I could get my book in 2-3 days. When I finally received the book 5 days later, the seller (Buy Mo Books) had sent the wrong edition. I reviewed my order to make sure it was not my error. Sure enough, I ordered the correct edition but Buy Mo Books sent me an older version.
- Very disappointed
     By A1IQC558SZ6YOL on 2010-02-28
I had to read this textbook for a mid-level psych course and was very disappointed. Not only is there a lot of "fluff", but the author frequently presents the results of studies in such simplified terms, that it would be easy to draw the wrong conclusions (and conclusions which might be sexist, racist, classist, etc) from the information. There are also little "observation quizzes" and "things to think about" listed in the margins which were so subjective or irrelevant that I found them insulting. My favorite was a comment on breastfeeding, when the author suggested it was a good idea because it was less stressful on fathers, especially at night! I had to look back at the cover of my book to double-check that it was really written by a woman! That's just one example among many that I found very insulting in the book. I can't believe anyone still really thinks that way in this day and age!
- Great book for 5 week summer course
     By A3EBBF305LNWGW on 2009-08-26
I took this class at an undergraduate level in a five week summer course online. For an online self-guided learning experience, this was an excellent textbook. It was easy and interesting to read. It had a lot of good information and good life applications and practical examples to help solidify the concepts. The book was very well organized and it was easy to find the information that you were looking for. I also bought the study guide with it which was a great help to review for tests.
- LifeSpan Textbook
     By A18ZKJVUM553HW on 2008-08-08
The book was great. It gave me what I needed to pass the exam through Excelsior College. However, the study guide that went along with it was a waste of time. The book is all anyone needs to pass the test.
- Packed with usefull information
     By A2UJWLWMBWE6O7 on 2007-02-18
I found this book very engaging, the topics were interesting and the graphics were very appropriate. I really liked how every other page had an interesting question that you could apply to everyday life and you got the answer in 2 pages. I would skip ahead to find out the answer. But after my developmental psychology class was over i wanted to keep this book. i love it.
- Excellent

Great book!! We are using this book for my developmental pyschology class. It has really provided me with a wealth of knowledge.
- very heavy book
     By A357U0HKIJJLNA on 2009-10-01
i bought this book in paperback because it was cheaper than the hardback. while i am glad i saved money, this book is just too big and heavy to be paperback, it is almost impossible to read and it doesn't hold it's shape in my book bag, it slids all over the place! i recommend the hardback version.
- Quick & Easy
     By A1MSUGOVW0E65N on 2010-08-31
Ordered book with no problem and got it quickly. I didn't have to keep checking order status. The book was in great condition.
- It is what I ordered
     By A26DEFMCQCKVMM on 2010-08-28
This book was labeled as loose leaf and I didn't really take heed to that. So when I got the book it wasn't a normal book. However it is exactly as described and is exactly the book I need. Thank you.
- Kindle edition of the book - hard to navigate.
     By A2GR74AJ3633MV on 2010-08-03
This book has good content, but the Kindle format was very hard to navigate. When i read through a chapter, I had no idea how long or short it was, or how much further in the chapter I had to go, unless I reviewed the material before i read it. I disliked that unless I was on the chapter page with all the links I could not jump to particular sections of the text. I would have liked to have the "master chapter outline" outside of the text box in a navigation bar, for ease of use.
I also disliked that the content was organized by "locations" instead of correlating pages to the physical text book. I disliked it because a book this size there are tens of thousands of "locations" that are in this book.
The images that were in the book were in the Kindle edition, but all the charts and graphs were very small and low resolution, and some were barely readable. I would have liked to zoom into the images, to get information and detail, more so than the zoom feature they have for the text. Additionally, the bookmark feature was difficult to control and arbitrary. If I book marked a page, the book mark would only reference the first line of the page, not necessarily the content i wanted to reference. Plus I found it frustrating that neither the highlighting feature nor the notes feature did not work on this book.
If you are getting this for a class, which I bet you are, I wold buy the electronic version from another company, with PDF style page references and more navigation control.
- Seller did not accurately describe this book
     By A25OB1PM9LBEBY on 2010-08-01
When I purchased this book, the seller listed the condition as "Excellent." Once the item was received, I noticed that the book's cover had torn edges and significant spinal damage. I felt misled. On another note, the actual text is extremely useful and I suggest this to anyone studying psychology.
- Worth the money..
     By A3QOS03CWRU3ME on 2010-07-25
I bought this product because it was not only cheaper (about $75 cheaper than the new paperback), but loose leaf (so I didn't have to lug the WHOLE book with me to class). I could take only the pages I needed. You do have to be careful when the pages are in a binder because the holes are close to the edge of the page and can tear easily. Overall, I would buy it again without a doubt.
- GOOD CONDITION
     By A24IHOXMJ0I4NC on 2010-05-29
This book had the wrong cover but turned out to be the correct edition. Other than that it was in good shape and came quickly.
- Unaware
     By A35N97359AE1TO on 2010-05-05
When I purchased this book I was unaware that it was not a normal book. I did not realize that I was going to need a 3 ring binder. I prefer a normal book. It's to fragile for me but someone who likes this type of book would probably enjoy the chaper price.
- nice book
     By A1A3WLH3ZPVDTK on 2010-05-03
this is a nice book...enjoyed reading it for my tests...really good information to all u people out there!!
- Lots of information, but cluttered
     By A25UIVJUJYA0HS on 2010-04-01
This is the textbook for an ECE course I'm taking online. The book is packed with information--perhaps too much. It has a cluttered look to it that gives me a confused feeling when I'm reading it. It is however a great "coffee table" book because it has nice photos, tons of charts, diagrams and graphs and side notes--ON EVERY PAGE. But for a textbook, there has to be a better one out there that's more readable yet still includes the necessary information.
