Wonderful, with one caveat ... By AXCKBNH12QJAG on 2005-05-03
I ordered this book as a birthday gift for my niece, who just turned 4 (and who loves to have frequent "tea parties"). I did not see the book, other than what's shown on this Amazon page, before I had it sent. After it arrived, my sister told me that it was a wonderful and adorable little book, and that my niece was delighted with it. However, there is one thing that I feel I should mention. The book details what goes on during a tea party, and on one page it says "we say a prayer of thanks to God." My sister and brother-in-law are a mixed-faith couple, and for a variety of reasons, they had decided to save issues of faith until my niece is a bit older. Regarding this book, my sister said that, after she reads it to my niece, "I'll probably need to explain God and praying." She didn't make it out to be a big deal -- and I'm sure there are many households in which four year old children have long since been introduced to praying and church. However, I felt I should mention this for those who would like to know. Personally, I rather wish the author hadn't added that part; unlike, say, a family dinner, you'd have to be pretty devout to consider saying grace a part of a preschooler's tea party. And in this day of many faiths and deity beliefs it seems a bit gratuitous and even (unintentionally) insensitive -- even if well-meaning. That's my opinion, of course, and this info is FYI. If a mention of God and prayer doesn't cause any complications, then this is a wonderful little book your little tea-party-giver will love.
perfect for baby girl first or 2nd birthday! By on 2000-05-18
Bright, colorful, adorable book for baby's first or second birthday. Simple rhyming sounds and sweet pictures delight baby. Tie with a soft sheer ribbon for a last minute, yet impressive gift. Both mother and child will be delighted with this durable board book.

Wonderful illustrations. Cute story. It is a favorite of my 2 & 4 year old daughters. Very girly book. Would buy again!
very sweet - beautiful pictures By A256680HMYIAEC on 2006-03-08
This book is kind of a throwback to the old days of comfortable, friendly hospitality between friends. It is perfect for all little girls and an excellent way to introduce the finer points of hospitality back into busy lives. It is also a board book, so it is very sturdy and a nice size for little hands. By 16 month old loves it now but I'm sure she will love it even more as she gets older.
My Very First Tea Party By A2R15IQ0A3WTXR on 2007-01-12
I purchased this for our three-year-old granddaughter and gave her a tea set also. The book is very simply written; young kids can easily understand it. I would say it's 5-star for 2-3-4 year olds. Might be too simple for older kids.
- Bright, colorful, cute

The colors in the book are bright and vibrant, and my 3 year old loves it. It is small enough that we can take it anywhere, and it doesn't take up too much space in her backpack.
- Perfect and Sweet!

The perfect book for your little girl! And I ESPECIALLY LOVE the prayer at the end! As for the other reviewer, the author can add a prayer at the end if that's what she wishes. It's her book to be published. There should be no reason to eliminate God from those who might be offended! If they are offended, don't buy the book!
I also love the etiquette added in! It's so southern and sweet! This book is perfect for those who want their little ladies to grow up graceful!
- Thank You God AND Amazon for selling this...

Thank You God AND Amazon for selling this little book that mentions "God" in it! :) I will definitely be purchasing this book today. It is nice to give thanks to God...for having our little friends (even if they are dolls!) :) over for tea time, the tea, and whatever yummies are being served up with the tea!
I understand that some people do not want "God" mentioned in children's books (as the one woman has noted in her review)...and would have liked to have known that before making her purchase. The only thing I can recommend is having the parent read the book before allowing their child to read it...as I will throw away any books with magic, fairies, dragons, unicorns, and whatever else I don't want my children's minds to meddle with, in the trash!
*Any books that mention "God" are welcome in our home!
God bless you and your 'lil tea party!
And Thanks again Amazon for selling this! :)

This book is absolutely adorable. I purchased it for my 18 month old neice and plan to buy another for my baby girl too. It is a really nice story with adorable illustrations. Durable and perfect for little hands. What little girl doesn't like a tea party?

This was a Christmas present for my 20 month old little girl from her grandparents. She enjoys playing with it and I know that as she gets older it will get alot of use. It is sturdy, pretty, and appropriate for little girls of different ages.

We bought this as a first birthday present for our niece. My sister tells me she loves being read too and looking at the pictures in the book. Pair this with an age appropriate tea set and you have the perfect gift for any little girl.

I purchased this for my 3 year old grand daughter and she loved having me read it to her. Encourages imaginative tea parties for grandma's and their grand daughters. We loved it.
- Not what I expected
     By A1LMISHIQSTKSB on 2008-06-26
My 18-month daughter did not find this book at all interesting. She serves us tea and cookies so I thought by the book's title that it would be fun for her to see and "read" about a tea party. However, the pictures are watercolors (too complicated for a toddler's attention span) and the book does not describe how a "tea party" would normally go about. It puts more enpahsis on lovely dresses than on tea sets and girls having a good play time.
- Great book if you are a Christian...
     By A1DRJLKBN3VOUS on 2008-07-03
However I am not, and therefore was terribly dissapointed to find a blessing to God at the end of the book. Wish it had mentioned that in the description or at least shown that page in the "look inside" link. Would have saved me $ and hassle. Just a warning to those that may not practice a form of Christianity. Otherwise it is cute.
