Best Price: $6.95 $2.95

A great big hug in book form, Snuggle Puppy is a year-round valentine from parent to child. It is bright, chunky, a pleasure to hold, and has a die-cut cover that reveals a glimpse of the joy inside before it's even opened. Best of all, it's packed, of course, with pure Boynton: her inimitable language, her inimitable illustrations, her inimitable sense of fun.

OOO, Snuggle Puppy of mine! Everything about you is especially fine. I love what you are. I love what you do. Fuzzy little Snuggle Puppy, I love you. Featuring a sweet and cuddly doggie cast and rhyming verse, Snuggle Puppy is the perfect bedtime book to read last, because of an ending that kids will want again and again: I started with OOO. . . . Now we'll end like this: [BIG SMOOCH!] UPC: 019628130679

  • An appetizer on the Boynton buffet

    By A2WTY1JSJ9SN9O on 2003-10-17
This, like all the Boynton books I've seen, is a beautiful little package -- a sweet song and adorable pictures, sure to result in much snuggling and special moments. It is great for little kids, especially (in fact this song has become a bedtime standard for us). However, if you and your kids like this book, be sure to check out Sandra Boynton's full "Philadelphia Chickens" collection -- a Broadway-show type "review" of many fantastic and catchy toons, with great illustrations and a CD (featuring Patti LuPone, Meryl Streep, The Bacon Brothers, etc.). My kids (3 & 8) have loads of fun singing the songs, dancing around like aardvarks in a chorus line, acting snoozy and then rock and rolling. My 8 year old daughter loves "Broadway" type of music, but much of it is pretty grown-up in content, so this is just the ticket. The songs are funny and appeal to both kids and adults. Sorry, I'm not saying more specifically about Snuggle Puppy, but the whole collection is a treasure for kids as they get older.

  • A must-have!

Our whole family adores this book. It's infectious; for one little book it packs a whallop. The book is a love song, and we sing it as a bluegrass song. One reading keeps us smiling for a whole day. Until I find a new favorite, this is the book I will buy (along with Blue Hat, Green Hat) for all of the new babies I know. Everything about it is especially fine.

  • OOOOoooooh! Everything about it is especially fine

Guaranteed to make my 2 year old son giggle and smile every time I read it. One of his favorites for the past several months since he first picked it off the shelf for us to read it to him. now he brings it to us often.

Get it for your little snuggle puppy!

  • Favorite of my own snuggle puppy

    By A30YW5IGP6SNZK on 2005-04-15
Ms. Boynton's books are a huge hit in our home. Snuggle Puppy was given as a gift to my now almost three year old for Valentine's day and it quickly became her favorite...we read it each night and she gets so excited to hear the cadence in the book, she moves in rhythm to the words as I sing song the story. I even found her asleep snuggling the book under her arm one night. I will be sad when this is no longer part of our bed time story time.

  • Excellent Book

Our whole family loves this book - my 3 year old sings the song to her 1 year old sister. The book is short, and very sweet.

  • A Super-Cute Ditty!
    By on 2003-08-04
This is one of my 17-month-old daughter's favourites. It is short but sweet, and the rhythm and words are so catchy they get "stuck" in my head for hours at a time after I've read it to her!

It lets the reader become as animated as they wish when reading. You can just read it normally if you want, but it's more fun to do it up: "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO snuggle puppy of MINE!!!!"

  • Great for Dads, Moms, Boys & Girls
    By A1MFIVHYJS11WY on 2007-05-26
This little book is wonderful! It's one of the few my baby girl will sit through. One nice touch is that there aren't any gender cues for the parent dog or little puppy. It could be a Mommy and her little boy baking the cookies just as easily as a Daddy and his little girl. Very cute! I haven't been disappointed with a Boynton book yet!

  • Oooooooooh! One of our favorite books!
    By ACTG1V1P0BWU6 on 2004-07-17
I bought this book when my daughter was not yet born. I started to read to her when she was three months old. I sit her on my lap and let her rest against my body while I hold the book infront of her to read.
She is now 5 1/2 months old and this is one of her favorite books. She gets very excited when I pick this one off the shelf. While I read it she grabs for the book and her legs kick and kick while she smiles.
The book is a really sweet story about a mommy dog and her "snuggle puppy". While making cookies she sings him a song about loving him for who he is and what he does. Its short and very very sweet.
The book is based on a song but I dont know the song and I dont think it matters. The words are so important to giving your child good self confidence. I think when they are old enough to understand what you are saying it will be even better for them.
This is a cute book and it doesnt get old. I love to "sing" my daughter the snuggle puppy song where ever we might be and she loves it.

  • Works on my not very snuggly puppy
    By A3DA93V9ZZ60QU on 2004-09-25
My son is 15 months and always busy busy busy - too busy to cuddle. However, when we read this book (he often takes it off the shelf and brings it over to me) he stays attentive for the whole book and laughs at the "OOOOOOOOOOOOOO I Love You!" parts.
It's a great book to use to demonstrate to your child how special they are to you.

  • Predicatable and wonderful
    By A6Y1NR701XI3G on 2004-02-07
My son loves anticipating the words and the kisses. I don't know the tune, so we do it as a chant, and it's wonderful. He screams with laughter anticipating the next words. Tonight we read it 3 times and he took it to bed.

  • A very sweet book

This was given to us as a gift & we are so thankful for being introduced to Sandra Boynton's books. What's really great about this particular book is that you can sing it! At first I made up a tune, but then I discovered on Sandra Boynton's website that she has several CD's with musical recordings of some of her books and more. Many of the recordings are done by celebrities. Snuggle Puppy is sung by Eric Stolz. My husband figured out the guitar chords, and now we sing it to my 4 month old. She loves it!!!!

  • Loved by my 7-month old
    By A13ASCGYUVQ9HR on 2004-08-16
A friend, who is an elementary school reading specialist, gave us this book as a gift and our little boy really responded to it. The rhymes are short and it has that sing-song quality that infants enjoy. This book, "Brown Bear...", and Margaret Miller books (he likes to look at the babies) are his current favorites -- he smiles the second I pull them off the shelves, which is very gratifying!

  • A must have book
    By A3HX2DJ0IVCFVT on 2004-11-27
I received this book as a gift for my newborn. My son is now 7 months and his face lights up whenever I pull out this book. I have several other friends who say the same thing about all of Sandra Boynton's book. If you don't already have this book you should get it now!!!

  • Perfect bedtime book!
    By AO0A8FMZ4HTIU on 2005-06-25
We came across this book and just had to have it. We are expecting our first child in August, and I had been looking for a little book, or song to read/sing to our unborn baby each night to get him used to our voices. Since we are HUGE dog fans, this book is perfect. My husband and I take turns each night reading it to our unborn child, and can't wait to make it a part of his night time ritual when he is born.

In fact, I've already decided that his nickname will be Snuggle Puppy :).

  • A very special book
    By A2TFK9I12KCVDQ on 2006-02-28
My son has always liked this book, but one night I made up a melody and sang it to him. He loved it! Now I even sing it to him without the book to calm him down when he's upset. This is a wonderful book that conveys a very special message in a way young children can understand and appreciate.

  • MUST HAVE!!
    By A3N69DAS9TM33S on 2006-06-14
What a great book to read out loud, perfect to read to a young ones anytime to let them know whatever they do whatever they are you love them. If there is one Sandra Boynton's book you want to buy this would be it!

  • What a dog!
    By AUG0XJ4L6U08M on 2006-07-01
Sandra Boynton has always understood the human-animal bond and this book celebrates how essential dogs are to our lives.

  • Cute book AND song - grumpy dad must not have known.
    By AVIH3BVVJSNYC on 2006-07-15
This is a cute book, but a cute song as well. It might be hard to sing it if you haven't heard the melody, but you can look at the Philadelphia Chickens CD online and hear enough to get the idea. It might be more fun.

  • Snuggle Puppy cute but not our favorite Boynton
    By A2LOR8YC0D27EN on 2007-01-12
Puppies, snuggles, hearts, love songs...all the ingredients for a book full of affection and love. Unfortunately this book doesn't leave us with warm fuzzies. Repetitive, boring and overly simplistic, this one is not one of Boynton's best.

  • Just a wonderful book to share with baby
    By A5YAL2OM0AA5H on 2005-01-14
This book is, to me, nearly an ideal baby/toddler book. The illustrations (like in all of Sandra Boynton's books) are bold and colorful and easily capture my son's attention, but what sets this book apart is the text/story (such as it is) - it can be read or sung, and it lends itself to dramatization that my son just loves (like another reviewer said, the OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO parts are always a big hit). This is easily a favorite of both our son and ours.

  • A Sweet Valentine or Baby Gift
    By A2PWUZBYP64FVR on 2005-01-29
My son's favorite part of this book is the whispered section that abruptly transitions into a loud "OOOOO--I love you!" If there is an established tune, I don't know it, but we have our own version and sometimes change the song to shake things up. You could easily chant along, and the book would be just as adorable. The message in the text is so great--it communicates an appreciation for your child in a sweet, direct manner. The illustrations are also cute--there's a ball under the table in the kitchen where they're making cookies (with batter all over the puppy's face), a page where the snuggle puppy is enjoying all four seasons with an umbrella, a heavy coat, etc.--so there are lots of familiar objects to identify and talk about together. We both look forward to reading this together and "snuggling" at home, and sometimes we sing it in the car. This would be such a great gift for expecting parents, part of a Valentine's Day package, or a "just because" book to share with your child.

  • Sweet to sing, whether you know the tune or not.
    By AIR6M6BOXTG04 on 2005-05-23
A co-worker gave this to my little girl on her first birthday, because she knows that I make up tunes for just about everything. But to her surprise, I already knew the song from the fabulous Philadelphia Chickens CD. This makes the song that much better, I've found that my daughter's favorite songs are those that are reinforced in many different places -- at school, in books, out of Mom's mouth, out of other family members' mouths.

  • Great loving book
    By ANDRDRX2JBXZR on 2005-09-09
My 3 year old loves for me to sing this to her and as usual, Sandra Boynton is great.

  • Delightful and educational
    By A3OC2U3JTMK0RA on 2005-10-07
Snuggle Puppy was a deligthful book and a great way to teach children about the love and caring animals can yield to children and other people. We loved to look at the pictures and add our own special "Woof Woof" sounds as we looked through the pages.

  • Grumpy Morning Dad Review
    By A2BNQGY6ZYXFFQ on 2006-05-28
Sandra Boynton writes songs like someone who has never heard a song before. The pictures are adorable, sure. But here's the thing--I don't just want adorable pictures. Are there a lot of toddler books that *aren't* cute? If you're going to write a book about the way you feel about your kid and put it in the form of a song, by God that song had better be cute as well. I challenge anyone to sing the song in this book *AS WRITTEN, without changing the words. It can't be done unless you're some kind of beat poet or Yoko Ono or something.

  • Another big win for silliness
    By AGC2Y7DE68ZEV on 2006-06-09
When I ordered the book I wasn't sure what to expect. My 2.5 year old son got caught up into the book immediately when we hit "OOOooooh, snuggle puppy of mine...."

The pictures that showed the silly things a "snuggle puppy" (our little toddlers) get into, along with the reminders that we love what they are, we love what they do, hit home the message that we love our children for simply being themselves.

A touching story written with silliness and a rhyme - perfect for a hyper toddler in the middle of the day.

  • Cute, but too wordy
    By A3LWV94ZSGJANY on 2007-05-27
I love Sandra Boynton but this isn't my favorite. It is a cute story and very sweet, but it is wordy and repetetive and my daughter usually gets bored before we are through. I would recommend getting one of the author's other books.

  • Affection Perfection
    By AMQVR5QN1EMTX on 2005-03-16
My nephew's parents have been reading Boynton books to him nightly since he was born, and we all--me, my nephew, and his parents--love them! This, however, is our favorite. The text is so sweet, the rhythm lends itself to making up you own melody, and the pictures are fun to point to and talk about. This book also lets you explore different voice volumes with your little one, and helps your child develop a sense of cadence and rhythm.

Now that my nephew is 23 months, he will find and open up this book, look for the pages that start with "Oooo..." and his little face will beam as he says, "Oooooh sugglepoppy!" (or something very similar.) We've written our own jazzy little tune to go with the chorus, and I like sing it to him anytime, anywhere, just so he knows that "I love what you are, I love what you do!"...and that I'm about to give him a big puppy-sized snuggle!

  • Will create fond storytime memories
    By A3SYKF15F7MM5Z on 2005-04-11
My husband picked this book out for our little one when she was 10 months old. She wasn't too interested so on the shelf it sat until she turned 12 months. It is now a fundamental part of our bedtime ritual. She even gears herself up for the end of the song by puckering up! I look forward to reading more of Boynton's books!

  • Love It!
    By A2BCDP4UNI99M3 on 2006-01-06
I like this author, so I just put this book on my son's wish list for the heck of it. His aunt got it for him for Christmas and we love it. I just made up my own tune to the song and my son just giggles when I sing it. It has silly words, but a good message. I love singing it to my son and he laughs at me as I whisper the beginning and progressively get louder. Great book!
