  • Now I know how to use my Kitchen Aid

    By AX8EO3F8G1KK6 on 2005-11-04
I've had a Kitchen Aid for 3 years, but never used it as anything more than a souped up hand mixer. A friend gave me this book along with the pasta roller and grinder attachments about a month ago. I've used a half dozen recipes out of this book and all have been great and in the process I've really learned to use my Kitchen Aid. Learning to use the pasta roller was more than worth the price of the book and the pasta recipes are killer. If your buying a Kitchen Aid or giving somebody one as a present this book is the perfect compliment - its really expanded what I can do with my mixer.

  • Terrificly Useful!

    By ALGL9JNM2V5YZ on 2005-11-06
I was so pleased to receive this book from a friend. At first, I wasn't sure that it would be useful to me as I do not have the different attachments for my mixer other than what it came with. I was so pleasantly surprised to find so many wonderful recipes that do not require extra attachments. So far, (I think the Orange Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake and the Potato and Cheese Pierogi's are my favorite, but I am working my way through the recipes and may find new favorites tomorrow!!!

  • Indespensible (if you have the attachments)

    By A3CV8G8X1UBRES on 2006-02-23
This gets 5 stars IF you have a KitchenAid mixer with attachments. It makes the difference between actually using all those cool attachments and putting them away in a drawer! I wouldn't recommend it to those who have the mixer, but no attachments, because it's use would be limited.

  • Finally!

    By A2E0EJHBTLTMDS on 2005-09-08
Finally, a cookbook with lots of fun and sophisticated recipes with easy to follow instructions for every level of cooking skills. I haven't found a recipe yet, that my family and friends haven't raved about!

  • Lost without it

    By A2LCD5EE7Z87N5 on 2006-07-21
Bought a lovely Kitchenaid stand mixer.

And that's what it did. Stand. And do nothing. Until I bought this book.

Seriously, Kitchenaid should up the price of the mixer by the cost of this book, and throw it in as an essential attachment.

Very helpful, lots of explanations and tips. Couldn't work without it. If you splashed out for the mixer, splash out for the book. It's as essential as the power cord.

  • I had no idea!!!!!!!
    By A7NYP88O40E5T on 2005-10-20
This is a great book for any kitchen with a stand mixer. These two ladies have come up with some really good recipes that are created with the mixer and makes use of all of the attachments that I never knew how to use before. Kitchen Aid should be pretty happy with this one. I learned that I have a machine that can do everything I need in the kitchen and it is so much fun doing it. I can't wait for the next book.

  • Triumph!
    By A1DYPK8MIB4E54 on 2005-10-06
Finally I have discovered the many uses of my mixer. From pasta to apple sauce, I had no idea there are so many wonderful recipes that can be made with a mixer. Traditionally my mixer was used mainly for cakes and soups, but now I realize there is so much more that can be done. This book explains in detail how to use all of the attachments (thank goodness) and also gives lots of helpful tips with the recipes.

  • Get Real
    By A2V0YUO0Y599DQ on 2006-03-25
I have a bone to pick with reviewers who slam a book because it may not have pictures. You can't judge a book by such petty criteria. After all, Mastering the Art of French Cooking (one of the best books ever written about French cuisine) doesn't have pictures. To have or to have not pictures is something that a publisher determines when deciding a price for the book. You want to spend $40 on a book with pictures? Fine. For my money I'll take a $20 or less price point cook book with great recipes any day. The Mixer Bible is chock full of great recipes whether you have the extra attachments or not. The authors were recently on a Kitchenaid conversations panel where they stated that half the recipes in the book can be made with only the basic 3 attachments that come with most mixers whether Sunbeam, Viking or Jennaire. It seems like they really tried to write a book for anyone with a stand mixer. They wrote a great book to cook by, not to use as a picture book. Judge a book not by its cover, but what's inside in the way of recipes and know how.

  • And on the 3rd day.....

I am so excited that this fantastic cooking duo has finally written a book!!! I have been a student of Carlas for 6 years and I must say that her exquisite in class cooking demos parallel her writing ability and can turn any suzie home maker into a suzie home baker!!!

  • Great book for anyone with a stand mixer
    By AWM4JDSYS4VLF on 2006-03-26
I've had this book for a month now and even though I thought I knew what my mixer could do, this book has really opened my eyes to the possibilities. I also tuned into the authors on a KitchenAid.com live forum discussion and they are very knowledgable about cooking in general, and of course the stand mixer and attachments specifically. Apparently their cooking teachers as well as writers and I think it shows in their recipes. They're written in a clear, easy to understand step-by-step format. I've probably made about 10 of the recipes so far and they've all been fantastic. I don't have any of the optional attachments yet, but I just ordered the pasta roller because we make a lot of fresh pasta in our house and the book walks you through the process and has a ton of great recipes too. The best part about the book though is how great the recipes taste. The authors and my family must be on the same culinary page, because everyone has enjoyed everything so far and all of the dishes we've tried have been starred to make again. A very good investment for the stand mixer owner.

  • So Helpful in Using My Mixer
    By A3BRSA4OYQKDU8 on 2006-02-20
My daughter gave me this book when I got my new Kitchen Aid mixer and I absolutely love it!! It was very helpful in learning how to use my new "toy" and the recipes are wonderful. I've looked around at other books that Amazon has available for mixers and I noticed right away that The Mixer Bible has twice as many recipes as the other books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who owns a mixer!

  • Excellent Reference/Recipe Book!
    By A3FTH6YARQIEJV on 2006-12-13
I received my electric stand mixer as a wedding present 6 years ago and used it solely for cakes and cookies. What else would it be for?

I purchased The Mixer Bible because I was contemplating donating my beautiful mixer to charity unless I could find more ways to use it. Thank goodness I found this book! It includes instructions for using the various paddles and accessories to make the stand mixer a useful everyday tool. There are suggestions for using the mixer for such things as making meat loaf and other main dishes, as well as the usual cakes, breads and cookies. The sausage recipes have even made me interested in making my own--it looks so easy (I just got the book yesterday so I haven't had the chance to try it yet)! Plus, it includes recipes for making your own ice cream...with a mixer!!!! I never would have thought it possible!

Recipes, tips, suggestions and things to avoid are all included in this easy-to-read book. If you own a mixer and use it more as a decorative piece, you owe it to yourself to get this book before you decide it's taking up too much space. I highly recommend this book!

  • Great Book, Great Investment.
    By A3RFGTZ15SBGBM on 2006-02-15
I am a brand new owner of an Artisan mixer and for those of us that have been working with hand held mixers forever, it can be a pretty intimidating piece of equipment. The book really helped me feel comfortable with the mixer and I'm sure saved me from a few culinary disasters during the "breaking in" period. The recipes are all great. Much better than I expected. I just made the Cinnamon Rolls and my whole family agreed they are the best ones we've ever eaten.

  • These authors know what I like
    By A21YAEL3V9DY9B on 2006-02-20
The Mixer Bible has food ideas for my mixer that I have not thought of - what a wonderful way to use my big, expensive mixer. The authors have a wonderful knack for knowing what makes a good recipe and I am so excited to try them all.

  • Full of New Ideas
    By A1LQG8Q6E2ND0K on 2006-02-21
Although I have a Sunbeam Mixmaster with no attachments which meets my needs, I have found a lot of interesting and unusual recipes to try in this book. My favorites so far are the Winter Vegetable Gratin, perfect for a cold evening supper, especially accompanied by some surprisingly easy to make Lemon Thyme Biscuits.

  • A Very Nice Surprise!!
    By A29UH381YJM5JQ on 2006-08-10
I received this book and within 20 minutes was making the Multi-grain bread! Although there are no photos, the recipes are easy with simple ingredients that most homes would have. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is the least bit baffled as to what to do (beyond bread) with their standmixer.

  • ok but not really necessary HOWEVER it tells you the speeds to use on your kitchenaid
    By AXO4PQU0XG3TG on 2007-01-12
I bought this because I am insecure about using my first stand mixer. The recipes are not original and appear in some other cookbooks I have recently purchased. I recommend flipping through a copy before purchasing because the paperback price is not cheap.

I made Nigella Lawson's macaroons today and used the mixer bible's floating island recipe to learn to start on Speed 4 to froth the egg whites, add cream of tartar, then up the ante to Speed 8 to get stiff white peaks. Nigella's recipe said to beat until frothy, add c of tt, then keep beating to get stiff whites.

I also liked the instructions for the cream cheese butter pound cake loaf.

  • Not what I expected
    By A1B8Y83O1ZTYCB on 2007-04-19
Not just titled the bible, many people consider it to be the bible of mixers. Unfortunately, I disagree. I'm not sure what I was expecting- I guess I was looking for new uses for my mixer along with a great set of recipes. There's about 4 pages of tips for using your mixer.

Instead most are regular recipes that look for some way to use the mixer- usually when it makes no sense. Take the soups for example. Sorry, I'm not going to use my mixer as a strainer. How about using the mixer to mash your potatoes? No thanks. I've got cheap, easy, and effective hand tools to take care of those tasks.

It's not a total loss. The sausage, bread, and dessert sections are great. That's a PRACTICAL use for my mixer. All in all, this is primarily a recipe book with little to do with your stand mixer. The bible, it is not

  • Great cookbook!
    By AIPL0LJDQNSVR on 2006-05-28
I love this cook book. Every recipe that I have tried has turned out great! So far I have tried the Beef Pot Pie with Cheddar Biscuit Crust, Turkey Pot Pie with Herbed Crust, Banana Walnut Bread, Pumpkin Walnut Cookies, Ultimate Chocolate Chip cookies, Chicken and Apple Sausage, and Black Bean Soup. They were all very yummy! I love this cookbook because it makes me look like a gourmet chef. With that being said, this is a great cookbook, but if you're looking for something fast and easy this is not for you, also if you are afraid of using fat in your cooking, this may not be for you either. I also like that the authors are professional chefs, so I know I can trust their recipes, but unfortunately to some(not me) that means the recipes use a lot of fat. So if you love to cook and want a cook book you can trust, that also puts your stand mixer to use, I highly recommend this book!

  • A Great Book
    By ACNPDGRFJYCPI on 2006-12-08
I have made several of the recipes in this book, and every one has been a success. Although this is not a glitzy publication with lots of pictures, the wide variety of recipes are first class, and the book is well laid out with a good index.
Although a stand mixer is helpful to make the fullest use of this book, it is not entirely necessary, and it is definitely not necessary to have all of the attachments that are called for in the book (I have none). Any moderately equipped kitchen will have the necessary gadgets to successfully prepare most of the recipes in this book.

  • Great Complimentary Cookbook
    By A3KYP454PEW2KD on 2007-01-09
I recently purchased a Kitchen Aid Professional Series Mixer for my wife. My wife was happy wife getting just the mixer, but the Mixer Bible completes the purchase. All the recipes are geared toward having a Kitchen Aid mixer by listing what attachments are needed and what speed the mixer needs to be set. My wife tends to search for recipes online, but a few we have tried so far in this book have been far better, including those that are from Martha Stewart.

With the few recipes my wife and I have had a chance to try, the book has been worth every penny. My wife is very anxious to try out the recipes that include making pasta from scratch. I did notice a previous review explaining the book wasn't clear on how to process the pasta and burned out her mixer's motor. Knowing that before we try will make us try process the pasta in smaller amounts so as not to clog the mixer.

  • Very good cookbook!
    By A3I3DHFF94MW1D on 2007-01-28
This cookbook has recipes anyone can make! It has detailed instructions with tips on the side. My favorite recipe it the Farmhouse White Bread. The recipes are realistic for everyday people that don't have to be extravagant. Good down home recipes! Enjoy!

  • Makes a cook out of a novice!
    By A3PSAHS9SE7RTD on 2007-01-25
I received this cookbook as a gift with my mixer and everyone who has tasted my baking with these recepies have raved as if I've taken cooking classes. It is definitely a 'bible' to anyone who doesn't know what to do with your heavy duty machine. Completely invaluable!

  • I love my KA and this book
    By A395U4C8IB9XXU on 2007-02-02
I have owned a KA stand mixer since 1976, just upgraded my old faithful. Before this book, I made cakes & cookies and they were wonderful but now I've expanded to other uses and attachments.
It's so much fun to make my own pasta and this book really walks you through the steps. I also agree with another viewer, KA should pack this treasure in the mixer box. Well worth the money and Amazon has the best price as always.

  • Somewhere between a 3 and a 4 star...Great for learning your mixer, but not the very best recipie book
    By A34IBL8HGXPJ0N on 2008-01-06
Overview: if you've never used a mixer before, and just spent $300 on one, this $15 investment will help you learn to use it like a pro. However, if you've had your mixer for some time and are good at using it, there are more impressive recipes in other books.

This book has some nice recipes in it. But what has been best about it for me was is learning techniques to get the most from my mixer. There is a bit of a learning curve learning to bake with a standing mixer for the first time and this book helps with that. For example, since I don't have the room to knead and make bread in my tiny apartment, I've been trying my mixer. But it can be hard to get a good crumb from machine kneaded bread. This book's bread recipes included the extra steps and techniques specific to bread making with the mixer. The cookie and cake recipes are nice too.

A small complaint would be that I don't think the recipies are spectaucluar. I've got much better ones in other books and from my family. But again, using my ingredients and their steps and techniques, my cookies and cakes are coming out even better than when made by hand.

The only big drawback to this book is that so many of the recipes call for attachments I can't afford and don't have the room for, you can still make most of those recipes, you just have to do some of it manually.

One final note though, I LOVE the organization of the book. The recipes are well laid out and very easy to read through, much better than other books I own.

  • Disappointed
    By A2RKB2SOXX05N7 on 2006-02-16
I was really looking forward to receiving this book and have to say i was very disappointed. I bought a new kitchen aid mixer and anticipated this being a great companion for it - i was wrong. There are NO pictures of any recipes and its a very basic, boring book with info you could find almost anyplace else.

  • No pictures
    By AAVXVD7TAFYKN on 2006-02-19
Good Recipes, but no pictures of any of the recipes in the cookbook

  • Simple and Useful Mixer Book
    By A1EDX6KD8CY9K2 on 2006-11-18
My husband and I bought this book for a cousin as a wedding gift. The bride later thanked us because of its ease of use and variety of recipes. I also scanned the book myself for practicality. Even though it has no pictures, it is organized really well. One recipe that I tried turned out well, which is why we felt comfortable in giving it as a gift. We hope to buy this book sometime for ourselves or to receive it as a gift, too!

  • This book lives up to it's name
    By A2E22AYQDOJ6TX on 2007-02-08
This is an excellent book that will result in your using your mixer more than in the past. If you only have one book for your stand mixer, this is the one. Great basic recipes that you will use.

  • Impractical
    By A12ELO97LWPCO5 on 2006-04-21
What a waste of money! It seems like most of the recipes call for so many ingredients & also so many attachments to the Kitchen Aid Mixer, it's just not practical. I should have checked this one out at the bookstore before I bought it; I'll never make 1 recipe from this book.
