  • A Great Anatomy Aid -- A must for med students

    By A3PNTY0KDZV0EJ on 2000-06-29
This book is the best reference on the human body I've found! It focuses individually on each system, with large ready-to-color pages. This book list all bones and muscles in the human body (in the drawings, too) and reveals their locations. It goes into extreme detail about everything, and shows a fetal circulation diagram, which I have had trouble finding in other books. This book lists the view names (anterior, posterior, superior, ventral, etc.) and gives a diagram. It even spends some time talking about cells and tissues, with a colorable diagram of a cell. This book is a MUST for med students, and would make a great reference book for physicians. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in human anatomy, for I sure am enjoying it. Also check out "The Physiology Coloring Book, 2nd Edition". Note:For this book you should have a good supply of quality colored pencils, probably about 30, including gray and black.

  • Great supplement for any anatomy course

    By A27YUZ4HZHPWUU on 2003-06-21
I am using this book as a study tool for my Gross Anatomy course. Anyone who has taken an anatomy class can tell you that color-coding structures is one of the most helpful ways to remember them. There are drawings of bones, muscles, joints, organ systems and explanations of virtually everything that could possibly be covered in an anatomy class. The drawings are excellent and most of the features of the bones are labelled as well. This was very helpful to me since I had to memorize virtually every tubercle, ridge, groove, or other protuberance on every bone of the body. When I had trouble with the skull because the drawings in my class notes were horrible, the drawings in this book were much clearer and helped out a lot. If you are taking an anatomy class, this is a smart and relatively inexpensive investment that will help you remember everything better.

  • The most learning enriched coloringbook you'll ever find!

    By on 1999-10-13
I'm an 11th grader attending Norwich Free Academy currently taking AP anatomy & pysiology. This is one of those books, not required, but extrememely useful for surviving anatomy. With all the memorization, the coloring and written out labels w/ definitions, helps your out class grade so much. The visuals are so graphic and precise I find it has helped maintain a high gpa in the course. I would recommend this book for highschool & college anatomy students as well as for anatomy teachers. When the teachers print out the different coloring pages to assign for hw, as silly as it sounds, it infact helps w/ the whole physical concept. It is also a great break in between attempting Uconn Chemistry problems and reading about a bunch of dead guys in AP history. =P

  • A Must Have for Students of Anatomy, Massage, etc.

    By ASKRI630OBLCZ on 2001-09-08
Just when you thought they couldn't improve on the original, they keep making it better. The third edition contains all the strengths of the first two editions with dynamite new additions that will help all students of anatomy. Go down to your local hobby shop and buy the biggest set of felt tip pens you can find. After the book is colored, it should be kept as a quick reference book. You color the labels to match the illustrations, so it's easy to look back and spot the name of the muscle, bone, organ, etc. Make sure to read the section on HOW TO USE THIS BOOK before you begin coloring.

As the owner of a massage therapy school, we use this book and Salvo's Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice as our two main texts. It is incredible for those who are visual learners. We highly recommend it.

  • Great - Wonderful Learning Tool for Students

    By A2U42JXYNORNU0 on 1998-11-14
I am an undergrad Pre-Med student, and I found that working with this book was a valuable resource for helping me to learn the parts of the body that I need to know. This book is laid out very well, and in addition to the outlines of the structures, provides brief summaries of their functions. I don't really know why this book helps ingrain the anatomy in one's brain, but my whole class purchased this book and we have found it extraordinarily helpful!!!!!!!

  • Could it Get Any Better!
    By A3P2HUGSGB5TF2 on 2006-08-16
I am a doctor now, but i used this book when i was a medical student and i thought it was great.

Some people may say it does not have a lot of detail. But i thought the annotations were pretty detailed. And i had the 2nd Edition!

There is no way you can know all that is in this book and NOT get a good grade on your anatomy final!

The only down side, its a bit time consuming, all that colouring takes time. SO use it WITH your course work. Dont wait till you are close to exams, because you wont have time.

To tell you how much i loved this book, i bought a copy of the 3rd edition for a friend of mine who is starting med school in september!

    BUY IT!!!!

  • An excellent tool for visual learners
    By A2EP0QO57Y9YW6 on 2002-10-22
This is a workbook I'd reccomend for any student of Anatomy. I make a point to get a new copy every three to four years and color through it just to review and stay fresh. I am studying massage Therapy now, and first used this book six years ago when I was thinking about going into massage therapy or physical therapy since I knew I would need this(if you're wondering why the long length of time, just getting money together for school).

The knowlegde of the muscles, thier attachemnts, origins, and actions have stayed fresh in my mind for years so that going through A&P was much easier for me than for my classmates. While the bones and muscles were my main interest, I aquired a good working knowledge of the rest of the body from this book along with my textbooks.

This book is great for anyone even thinking of a medical profession, or artists needing a better understanding of how the body is put together. I have known a few people this book didn't help, but this was because they were not visual learners, but this is great for anyone who learns visually.

  • Excellent adjunct for anatomy
    By A3MFKW8MEMFCMY on 2001-08-17
The beauty of this book is that it's appropriate for all ages--it's detailed enough for a 1st year med student (especially for the summer before you start--it takes too long to color during the semester), and if you're a visual learner, you'll probably find it a better tool than just any old textbook. The text accompanying each picture is probably too much for a high school student, and maybe just enough for a med student, but it's a good starting point no matter what your level.

  • Jennifer, a nursing studern
    By A30XSZV0WBLGBA on 2001-08-10
This is a great book. Being that anatomy consists of being a visual learner, utilizing the guidelines in the book to color in the different aspects of anatomy is exteremely helpful. The diagrams are very detailed with excellent descriptions. I used colored pencils, they are a lot less messy and enable detail.

  • Best way to learn
    By A2D9NB2P8ZJB3O on 1999-04-14
I am a massage therapy student and this is the great way to learn all the insertions of each muscles. It even has general information about each muscle group. Coloring is not only fun, but this really does sink in. How else can you learn all the names?

  • A big help!!!
    By A2URGI23GNZURD on 2002-08-20
I just graduated high school, about to go on to college as a biological sciences major. This is a book that is essential for review. It may have a lot of pictures, but the descriptions are just great. It's a very useful learning tool and it adds some fun to Physiology and Anatomy class, where we know there is no fun to be found. I have both the Anatomy and Physiology book and I will keep them as references throughout my undergrad and when I move onto medical school.

  • Don't buy markers for this book
    By A14VM6RP7G4UP2 on 2002-12-29
Buy colored pencils and a good sharpener...some of the drawings and diagrams are TINY. Markers of any size are just too big.

I just took my first exam and have to say that this book made me remember everything...learning by doing is now my favorite way to study, because many of us forget what we read by the time we turn the pages. This is a must-have for anyone out there studying anatomy, because you won't forget what you learn this way.

  • Great study aid
    By A121LU1P40URV on 2002-02-26
I am a nursing student, and I use this book to help me prepare for my anatomy class. The drawings are very precise, and all of the important features are clearly marked. It really helps me to "lock" all those details that I read about, and saw on the models, into my head. And, the coloring's fun!

  • Useful to ANYONE with healthcare professions in mind
    By A3PWRYKE5YHIX3 on 2004-08-26
I bought this under the advice of nursing students before me. I love this book, it is highly informative and has helped me memorized the anatomy of the body. Though I'll probably not need to learn the whole book, the parts that I've used has helped. I bought the physiology counterpart as well. You may think $13.99 is steep for a coloring book, but with how many pages it has it is worth it. The book is not just a coloring book, it offers information on the body parts as well.

  • Great Addition to Any Anatomy Text
    By A348FA879RTJHC on 2004-03-10
I purchased this while taking a course in Anatomy, and did much better in the class. What would take the text a chapter to explain, this book explained in a few pages - sometimes in a few paragraphs. It was much easier to understand the organ systems when you could actually see how things worked. The coloring aspect to me at first, seemed rather silly, but it was so much fun that I quickly got past that! I would definately recommend this book to anyone taking anatomy - purchase it with your other texts if you can (I waited till mid semester to buy mine), and start off using it as a study guide - it will definately help. They make many other of these types of books also, so if you are studying biology, microbiology, physiology, and so on, it might also help to get these.

  • Excellent visual learning aid, must buy
    By AQ7UEGRFG57O4 on 2003-09-12
I found this book to be excellent for helping me with my college anatomy and physiology class. I first tried to learn locations of muscles by just looking at pictures. However, for some reason, the muscles would not stick to my mind as easy. I then started using this book and coloring the muscles. In this way, the locations of muscles stuck to my mind and was able to recall them on the test. However, I also highly recommend the following:
Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology
    (ISBN: 0971999694)
I used this book for both my anatomy classes (Anatomy and Physiology 1) and (Anatomy and Physiology 2). Since it was easy to comprehend, my study time was decreased. This book was also to the point and it showed me which facts to study more. In this way, I was better prepared for my college exams while other students were still guessing what was going to be on the test. My advice is to get these 2 book for anatomy and physiology class. Both books are well worth the money.

  • think this is a kid's book? think again
    By on 2004-06-14
I am in college-level beginning anatomy and the instructor was quizzing the class on terminology. He gave the definition or pointed to a body part and we had to shout out the answer. I knew all of the terms while my classmates struggled.

During break, my classmates asked how I knew/remembered this stuff. My answer? "The Anatomy Coloring Book." They blithely dismissed it as kid's stuff, a _coloring_ book. Well, that may be...but *I* know the material.

  • Use this book to learn anatomy through both physical and visual approaches
    By A27MRKGP05YD0S on 2006-03-17
The reviewer who found this book "torturously time consuming" [sic] is missing the point. It's *designed* for you to go slowly and thereby learn, both visually and physically, all of the body's various systems. I do wish some of the plates were larger, as the detail would be easier to see and the labels clearer. However, I'll take accuracy over size any day, and this edition has been carefully edited and proofed. There's also a glossary, which I think is great since I'm using the book for my own enrichment and not as part of a class.

I've been working through the pages with colored pencils and having a blast; pencils also ensure that you can see the detail clearly after coloring as well as allow you to add a little more depth (if you're got any artistic bent whatsoever). What a fun way to learn how the body works!!

  • A must have for anyone wanting to learn anatomy
    By A3T06SC4X3Y76V on 2000-06-25
Roll up your sleeves, get your colored pencils out and go to town. Color by number and get a great, detailed understanding of the entire muscular and skeletal system along with all of the body's other important systems. A great reference guide that I refer to time and time again when researching injuries and teaching my clients about various muscle groups. - Michael J. Merlino, Certified Professional Fitness Trainer

  • A must-have for medical school
    By A1XT3UZWSJPETO on 2005-10-18
When I ordered this book, I expected it to be an additional study tool for the anatomy part of medical school. Boy is it better than that! Not only does The Anatomy Coloring Book cover anatomy in vast detail, but it also includes little blurbs on clinical correlations - many of which show up on exams. In addition, there is a nice sampling of physiology, histology, and embryology included in this book. I was amazed to find out how much of my first-year course material was covered in here. Also, the time you spend coloring in structures is time that you spend repeating the names of those structures in your head - very useful. I can't say this will work for everyone, but in my case, I could remember every structure on a plate after putting in the time to color it in - it was great! If you are a visual learner, this book is for you.

  • an excellent way to stucy anatomy
    By AZGXZ2UUK6X on 2007-07-11
I used this book with a 5 week course in Human Anatomy and found it to be one of the more effective study tools. Reading the material, coloring the structures and really paying attention to how they all go together absolutely reinforces learning by bringing together several senses- reading, visual, tactile, motor- and yes, even verbal since I talked to myself about what I was doing. Exceptionally helpful, even along with an excellent color atlas, models used in class and cadaver study.

I'd recommend purchasing high quality colored pencils to do the coloring- something like Berol prismacolor or Spectracolor. Markers are too liquid, the color too uniform and the paper too porous to get the clarity needed to understand the edges of the structures. This isn't to say the paper is poor quality- it isn't. It just takes ink too well for the purpose needed to really learn the material.

This is the original anatomy coloring book and is leagues better than any of the others out these- those are poor imitations, in my opinion.

I'm purchasing a second copy of this to use to provide instruction to a freshman in high school who has requested I teach anatomy to her. If I were taking physiology or microbiology again I would indeed purchase those- and I feel like buying the geography one just because I love maps and love the idea of the book.

  • Better than any other anatomy coloring book i've seen
    By A2NILRW3OPREQW on 2006-07-10
I looked at a number of similar coloring books, and this one was by far the most detailed and info-packed. I'm halfway through it now (i'm coloring everything in order), and i'm still finding the book thouroughly enjoyable and educational.

  • Wonderful For Anatomy and Physiology Students
    By on 2003-03-04
This is a very good reference book for anatomy and physiology students. I also used Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations (Volume 1) and (Volume 2)by Patrick Leonardi, which is sold also on amazon.com prepared me for the type of questions asked on my college exams. With these three books, I got a 96 average in my undergrad anatomy and physiology class. Definitely, get these three books.

  • a great learning tool
    By on 2001-06-22
When this book is first assigned, you may be skeptical about its effectiveness as a learning tool. For me, it is similar to writing a grocery list - if you leave it at home, odds are you can remember a lot on the list, just because you went through the exercise of writing it down. There is tremendous value to repeating, for example, the name of a particular bone, while you color. It's a terrific memory exercise. Fear not! Dive in!

  • Buy lots of markers
    By on 2002-08-06
This book was fun and interesting. I got asked what I was doing about a million times. Imagine if adults everywhere got a copy of this book, they would not be able to help but color it. I recomend this book to any one, from those who can't answer a three year olds inquiries, to those who just want to learn what really is connected to the leg bone.

  • The best student study guide of the body
    By on 1999-08-28
I am a very visual learner and this book helped me get through the anatomy classes in needed to graduate. If you need something other than staring at a school book get this one and make sure you get the biggest colorbox of pencils. ENJOY! dee

  • Adequate
    By A3HWO3XASR2UM4 on 2008-04-26
This is a good re-enforcing tool when learning muscle groups. However, the text is a little too small for my liking. The most helpful aspect is when coloring in groups, its much easier to visualize how they work together, and makes memorizing them easier. The biggest drawback to me was the size of the drawings and text; too small.

  • The anatomy coloring book (3rd edition)
    By A6ECMCOLUI2PV on 2005-09-19
The information is good but the pictures could be a little bigger.

  • Get this book if you are taking anatomy
    By on 2002-06-16
I had anatomy with the coloring book in 1981! It was great then. I got an A in the class, then switched my major to comp science. Twenty years later, Im back in school. I had to take anatomy as a review, and GVSU's study guide is awful! I'm ordering one now so I can repeat the "A".

  • Great study book
    By A27PBU51087OLS on 2007-02-23
This was a required book for my Anatomy class in college. I still own it (20 years later) and use it as a reference. I even bought a second one just because it was so much fun to color and learn at the same time.
