Don't Waste Your Money By on 2003-05-11
I purchased this book to read to my 2 1/2 year old daughter as part of preparing her for an addition to the family. My daughter loves books and I enjoy reading them to her. The reading level is listed as Baby-Preschool and I was curious to see how the author would write about such a sensitve subject so that children of a young age would understand. To my surprise, I quickly realized that the "author" chose not to deal with the subject at all and the book consists only of pictures. While its easy enough for a parent to make up a story using the illustrations, there are so many other books out there that have illustrations AND pictures that I would suggest spending your money elsewhere. I also bought Our New Baby by Beth Atchison which I was very happy with. However, if you're considering buying that book please be advised that there are references to God, so if you're not a Christian it might not be for you.
Aptly Titled By A3S7XYTEEQHAJ1 on 2005-12-06
This is, after all, a book about "Waiting." Excellent illustrations cover not being able to fit in Mommy's lap, doctor visits, buying things for Baby, helping Daddy so Mommy can rest, being left behind when Mommy goes to hospital, seeing new baby for the first time. Just wish there had been one more page about what to do with Baby after s/he is here. Very good book for child 18 mo. to 5 years.
Beautiful book to personalize for your child By A3KYZ8M5IDEZSR on 2003-05-20
My 20-month old daughter loves this book, as do I. The illustrations are beautiful and allow you to tell the story however you choose (there is no text). It's a great way to personalize the "expecting a new baby" story. We talk about our doctor, our favorite toy store, our grandma coming to visit, ect. It's also fun to hear how Dad tells the story. A great book for toddlers who will soon be big brothers or sisters.
We enjoy this book By A32UEV7AGISC5Y on 2007-02-07
I just bought this book for my 2.5 year old. I appreciate the fact that there aren't words to the book. It gives me an opportunity to talk specifically about the situations as it applies to us, and not be constrained by a story.
I would have given it five stars except for the fact that there are two things I wish were different, I wish there were more distinct "belly" pictures of the mom. There are a couple, but she kind of just looks big to me. And second is the page with the child staying with (obviously) grandma and grandpa. We don't have family nearby, so he will be staying with friends. And additionally, if he was staying with grandma and grandpa - ours don't have white heads! The book could have just been a touch more versatile without the white haired couple.
great get ready for bay book By A204OCH25YH4IK on 2005-09-21
This is a picture book, no words, which is great for a family to create their own story. I would recommemd this book to anyone having a second child to prepare the first born for all that is ahead for mommy. I also purchased the sequel book "My new Baby" again wonderful my son always wants these books read to him. Hope any or all of this helped.
- A story about you
     By A372EK55WOAZDU on 2005-09-07
This book is great because you can make a new story up every time since there are no words. My son likes it because it is all about him and his mommy and daddy and the new baby that is on the way.
- Not happy that it was pictures only
     By A3X1DOY0H0LTP on 2006-06-09
I was not aware that this book was illustrations only. My 3 yr old was looking forward to me 'reading' this book about the new baby to him, and he was not happy that there were no words!
- Great for my big-sister-to-be!

I'm trying to get our almost 2 year old ready for her baby brother's arrival, and I found this series PERFECT. I especially liked a few things about this:
1. It shows mommy getting ultrasounds! How cool! Realistically, most of us are having ultrasounds nowadays, and Jordan loves to point at the picture of the ultrasound in the book and say, "Baby Sean!" She goes to my ultrasounds with me and I think it just seems more normal to her to see it in the book too.
2. There's no words! This is wonderful, because Jordan and I use the pictures in the book to make up our own story. We talk about what we see, and it allows her to use her imagination and let her percieve it in her own way without it being an already written story. The illustrations are lovely, bright and colorful, but not over the top.
3. The children in the books could be of either gender. Great!
I highly recommend this series to anyone with small children expecting a new sibling! Kudos on this!
- Great for preparation of a young one
     By AFZ8EA821C7J2 on 2006-03-20
This book is a perfect tool for teaching my 22 month old about the upcoming arrival. With very descriptive pictures, he can understand what's happening. Yet, because there are no words, I can narrate to suit his learning ability.
- Best Preparing for Baby Book we found!
     By A33UPLB1B9LNWG on 2006-08-04
This is a great book and a favorite with my two year-old. I was worried since it has no words, but we spend far more time on this book because of that. He notices all the little things and reminds me of when we did that too! And I love that mom takes a break and dad makes dinner- this book fits in well at our house!
- Waiting for Baby

Excelllent. I bought this book for my daughter to read to my grandaughter. My daughter is pregnant and due with her second baby in June, so there will be 18 months between children. This book was on my granddaughter's level in terms of "no pictures". When she is talking better she can tell her mom and dad the story herself. A good investment and a great buy also.
- Best Sibling book
     By A6QGWQ17D9Y2L on 2007-02-18
I have an almost 3 yr old and he LOVES this book. Many of the other books on the market are either very negative or have way too much biological information about babies and where they come from. The negativity of all the other books, I think, puts the idea of jealously in the heads of young children. My son doesn't feel jealous or left out as of yet and I don't want him to start thinking that way. Also, the biological information would be great for school aged kids, but he's not even 3 and doesn't ask, so I feel no need to explain the 'birds and bees' to him at this point. Since there are no words he tells me what he thinks is going on in each picture and I can guide him with what information I feel is appropriate for his age. Perfect book for any soon to be big brother/sister.
- I love this book!
     By A10TFUCNYJ56QI on 2007-03-24
This book is GREAT because it HAS NO WORDS! I was able to make up my own story using familiar words and names for things and my son now retells the story to me. He is very excited to be getting his own baby soon. It helped him be comfortable around the doctor and the hospital and he helps out like the boy in the book does! Great book!
- Great book for toddlers

So I was concerned that my 21 month old daughter would get bored with this book. We have had it for almost a week, and she loves it! The bright pictures are wonderful and since it has no words, the parent can make up their own story or point out other things. Since the story is changing each time, I think it is less boring for both the child and the parent reading it. I think it's more interactive and intersting in that sense.
And yes, sometimes the character is not going to completely match each reader's situation, but I think they are general enough to be helpful. I like it that the child can look either like a boy or a girl. I also like it when the child is feeding her/himself while the mother is watching and relaxing.
It is great to show how the older sibling is going to be involved and this book really captures the special time for both parents and child.
GREAT BOOK, highly recommend! Our daughter makes us read it 4 or 5 times every night!
- just nice pictures
     By A1T0UZJ0JBYAHJ on 2007-01-11
Like the book. The pictures are well done. But there are no words at all.
- Great book

We're preparing our 2 1/2 year old for a new baby. It's been helping him understand what's going to happen. He loves to help make up the story as there's no words in the book.
- Very helpful
     By AYLRGKLP47HR1 on 2007-04-13
Helps little ones understand the concept of the new arriving baby. I love there are no words and that we can make our own stories. My daughter (2) likes to read/look at it on her own. A really good book for little big sisters or brothers to be.
- A Picture Book
     By AUU351GZKVK46 on 2007-07-17
I bought this and "My New Baby" for my son when I was expecting his first sibling. I was unhappily surprised to find they did not have words, just pictures. That definitely should be part of the product description.
It isn't too hard to make up a story, but if I would have known it was lacking words I never would have bought it.
- Okay book for a good price
     By ALSJYAZ2C22IY on 2007-11-12
We are expecting our second child soon and our son is only 20 months. I was in the market for a nice, simple book that would help him understand that there was another baby on the way.
He seemed interested in the pictures and I did like that it was wordless so I could make up a story to suit our family.
He likes the book well enough, but I don't think it made much of a difference in his awareness of his future sister. It was my understanding that this book was geared toward younger toddlers, but I would say that it is not and it best suited for a more preschool age.
- We recommend it! One of my son's favorites!
     By A364UYT78WWJAO on 2008-03-07
Our son is 2 and preparing for the arrival of new baby. "My New Baby" and "Waiting for Baby" by Annie Kubler are by far his two favorites (out of about eight books on the topic that are written for toddlers). Illustrations are fantastic, and we are happy that the book has no words as we would most likely not use them (we don't speak English to our son, and the absence of the words leaves all members of our family open to creating the story that fits our life most). We love that the child in the book is involved with all the preparation for the new baby arrival. Our family situation is somewhat different from what is pictured in the book. We have only our grandma with us, and grandpa that is pictured there can be left to different interpretation... we tell our son that many people will be coming to see us and to help us before and after the baby is born. Bottom line, our son is very excited about the baby and reads this book about twice a day very enthusiastically.
- No Words
     By A2037JANEM89MG on 2008-05-14
I wish I had read the reviews. There are no words, you have to create your own story, just FYI for other people who are browsing.
- Good gift

Gave this to my neice who is expecting a sibling soon. She loves the book
- great for toddlers
     By A3GCTL8U631M4Z on 2007-09-15
My daughter loves this book. She is only 20 months old, so she really doesn't get the idea that mommy is having another baby, but this let's us tell stories with the pictures!
- Wonderful book!
     By A2OJHT0XHFWOLW on 2007-10-02
At first I was dismayed that this book was only illustrations, without a story. Now, however, I absolutely love it. We have named all of the characters pictured after our family members and we also gave the name of the OB in the book the name of my OB. It has really let us personalize the process of mommy being pregnant for our child. Very nice!
- no text
     By A3P5QZF3512G7D on 2008-01-23
This book has no text, which may be okay for older kids who can put words to the pictures, but not for my 2 year old son.
- Not my favorite
     By A338GP2C5KIYW8 on 2008-02-24
My son, 2 1/2, seemed to enjoy this book but I thought it was a bit babyish for him though the manufacture states for preschoolers.
- Not so much
     By A24ITA4FU4VMCW on 2008-04-05
My daughter nor my husband liked this book. I thought the pictures were pretty, but that doesn't do any good if my daughter doesn't like it.
- Great for open-ended discussion on new baby!
     By A1GK6Y99FA4IHC on 2008-04-30
The fact that there are no words in the book means that one can personalize the story for the older child--and that is awesome. My son loves reading this book, because it is about "him." Interaction with mommy and daddy is emphasized, as is the child's role in helping prepare for the new arrival. There is no gender assigned to the new baby, and the hospital room is generic enough that one could substitute "birthing center," or another alternative. Fantastic and simple.
- cute story but not best for getting ready for new baby
     By A3FIXKAIXH2VPG on 2008-07-28
I bought this for my 19 month old to begin to ready her for the arrival of her little sister. When reading past reviews I figured out that the story had no text printed. I decided to purchase anyway thinking it would be easy to make up our own story. The book is cute and pretty easy to compose your own story but would be better with SOME text. The pictures take you through what mom and big brother and dad do to get ready for new baby. Nice concept but could use some text.
- great book
     By A3RK5PYLKLHPUY on 2008-07-28
This is a great book. It is an illustrated book, with no words, so you can make up the story yourself using your family's names. It goes through a lot of the transitions of pregnancy to having a baby, like getting the room and crib ready and visiting the doctor. Great gender neutral book as well. I am very pleased with this book.
