  • NEC 2008 CD Limited to Two Downloads?

    By A279FW3N6CZ3RB on 2008-05-02
The web-based 'key' only lets you install the CD to your hard drive twice. Most of us have a desktop at home and one in the office, plus a laptop for the field. They know this. We need three downloads plus three more for when we upgrade our computer hardware or rebuilkd after a crash. The publisher's tactic is a crime. This will end the era of using any NFPA code materials on my computers, its back to hard copy. AMAZON NEEDS TO STATE THIS TWO-INSTALL LIMITATION IN THIS WEBSITE AD TO PROTECT US. We have no other way to know what we are really buying.

  • National Electrical Code 2008 Looseleaf Version

    By AF9ETQ7FKI7UI on 2008-01-16
The book itself is fine. However, we had problems getting complete copies. Short story, we got several shipments with binders only, no filler. Replacements came in the same condition. Whoever boxed them for shipment didn't pay attention that it was for "books," not binders only. Third time wasn't the charm, we had the backorders cancelled. Regardless of who was "at fault," it created a lot of extra steps to try to resolve the problem. If you order this item, pay attention to what is shipped - don't let it sit for a while before checking the box(es). Again, book "good," packaging "bad."

  • A nice alternative to the pricier binder edition.

    By AWCR3NZBX7TTH on 2010-02-01
The paperback version of the NEC code book works well as an office reference manual and is an economical alternative to the pre-tabbed binder edition. Although, I would highly recommend purchasing the tabs to install on this paperback edition in order to cut down on time-consuming searches.

  • National Electrical Code Update

    By AOW5YMN9EF5OE on 2009-12-05
This code book has the updated information for electrical codes. All electricians should have it handy. Also, it is a great study guide for anyone who is preparing for a electrical license test.

  • A must have for DIY electrical work

    By A2QGRNSMGHOSJ2 on 2008-01-25
If you are going to do any electrical work in your home or garage, I highly recommend this publication. Some of the wording and references take some thought to decipher, but this book will save you headaches down the road, either with current electrical code inspections, or selling your home later on.

  • FLAT is better
    By AHLUPMYLKISXO on 2008-05-30
The NEC has gotten so large, that the ability to lay it flat while researching is really nice.

  • Wordy, but good..
    By AMPNU149RQBL8 on 2009-10-31
As a veteran of two ICC code exam certifications I am pretty good navigating the NEC. It is wordy, redundant in places, and sometimes not easy to get a straight answer. Yet it is still the clearest of all electrical code manuals I've seen(and I've seen alot of them) What alot of laymen don't realize is that for the most part local code supercedes the NEC so this book is not always the final word for a homeowner doing some electrical work. However, anybody with a little electrical background should be able to use the NEC to get their project going the right way. I would still recommend calling in an inspector anywhere you are unsure. Most of the electrical I do now is basement and garage remodels so I don't need to use the code book much anymore, but I prefer a spiral bound book because they are much easier to lay flat(obviously)
While sometimes the book reads like a newbe to English wrote it, this is still a valuable tool to both the pro and homeowner.

  • NEC 2008 CD
    By A12VJSBZKS1X3T on 2009-05-28
As an owner/builder, this CD version of the 2008 NEC code is just what I needed to work through the electrical phase of my project. The code is searchable and picking through it to find what I needed was fairly simple. I used this CD in conjunction with an excellent book by Ray Mullin - Electrical Wiring Residential. The book and this CD are perfect partners and all I needed. I also have the IECC and IRC on CD. The limitation to only 2 product loads of the NEC with the CD key might be irritating for some people. In my case it needed to be loaded on only one computer and wasn't an issue. I'm guessing if you called the provided phone number, you would be able to explain and exceed that limitation for further loads. 2 load limitation takes away a star.

EDIT 21Mar2010: Had to format my hard drive. The NEC CD loaded up no problem on the second go-round. We'll see what happens when I get to #3 someday.

  • You get this for your Jouneymans test but buy the hardcover for reference.
    By AZNUHQSHZHSUE on 2008-02-16
This is book is most of the time confusing and hard to decipher. It is obvious since it is basically a rules and regulations book. Sometimes words alone wont don't help me I need to have it drawn out. The best book to get for reference is the hard cover version. It has pictures and highlighted important information. It really helps when you are trying to decipher the codes.

  • Good.
    By A3DBYLJ8B4GWVE on 2009-11-25
Clear, concise, and easy to read. Strange to say but I wish there were more pictures, however, books like this usually don't have pictures so that's not expected.

  • N.E.C. code 2008
    By A39WQGHVCSCFO5 on 2008-10-18
This is a must have for anyone in the electrical field. My continuing complaint with the N.E.C. is that is seems like it is written by lawyers, instead of electricians. You need to take a course to understand how to retreive the information you are looking for. Without that it's time consuming and incomplete.

  • NEC 2008 CD - 4 years of code on 1 CD-ROM - Worth it!
    By A3IUCINKOV07GG on 2008-08-23
The National Electrical Code 2008 CD-ROM is actually alot more than just a digital version of the NEC 2008. Along with the ability to Search, print, look up detailed code with bookmarks, copy, and paste you actually get the last 3 editions (1999 - 2002 - 2005) National Electrical Codes so you can lookup and compare the revisions to the code. Alot of people don't know that before buying. Don't worry about messing up the book any more and just print what you need. It's a plus for a larger office. This CD is a must for any electrical contractor.

  • 2008 National electric Code
    By A27FQCAC2C3LXA on 2008-12-24
This is the 2008 version of the National Electric Code that is used as the basis for many local electrical codes. The code provides recommendations for the safe installation of electrical wiring, switching and disconnect equipment and fixed electrical equipment in residences, business locations and specialized locations such as movie and live stage theaters. This material is written for trained electricians and assumes some knowledge of electrical terms, wiring practices, etc.. Non-professionals will probably be better off with one of the many "how-to" guides avaialble.

  • Improper Description of product being sold.
    By A2Y5IJJG0NCHI7 on 2010-08-13
I needed a code "BOOK". I apparently ordered a CD. I don't believe that the seller did a good enough job of making it clear that I was ordering a CD, and not a book. Their website is called "BOOKSONLINE". Go figure. It ennded up costing me shipping charges. I had understood that I was to receive a refund for those. I do not accept that as proper salesmanship on their part. I will shop less comfortably on Amazon now as a result of them not refunding the shipping charge that was incurred for the wrong product. As a result I ended up shopping locally in my city and found the item cheaper and no shipping charges either.

I really feel that if I'm shopping on line that the prices should be better than going to a store. Isn't that the whole idea?

Also, when I ordered the product I was charged immediatelly. I have no problem with that. On returning the product it took days and days of waiting for the refund on my credit card. I had to contact "BOOKSONLINE" to see if they were even a legitimate company.

  • NEC 2008
    By A3RMJ22FUQDFR5 on 2010-07-12
As you see in previous reviews, this book is great for electricians. If anyone is interested in it, please let me know. I have them brand new, never opened with fast shipping. Discounts are avilable for bulk orders greater than 4. Thank you.

  • Better than the first order
    By A3JBG5YSZN2P9Q on 2010-07-05
This was my second order of this item, for the first order was sent "media mail" in which was supposed to take up to 6 weeks for me to receive. I ordered this package 2 day air and I received it on time and packaged great. I was very happy ordering it directly from Amazon, unlike the package I ordered from an Amazon "second party". The first order was shipped back to the vendor in order to get my money refunded back. In short, buy from Amazon but beware of "second party sellers".

  • Codes by any other name are still codes.
    By A1EVS8FRODO0DW on 2009-04-06
The 2008 NEC is full of interesting rules and regulations for the electrical industry.
Most of these rules and regulations make good sense others make someone good cents.
In any case, the rules must be followed or you will not get service connected in legal installations.

The book is difficult to read, but it contains all the necessary information for the electrician.

  • 2008 NEC Code book Review
    By A18L0Y60I1S681 on 2008-05-12
This book is essential to install electrical installations. It basically was created by the National Fire Protection Agency it explains how to install electrical systems so that you do not burn down the house or building down that you wire. It does not teach you how to be an electrician, but it does give you the basic guidelines legal guidelines as to how to install electrical systems. Sporte1111

  • Ordered Paperback got Looseleaf - Then Review Deleted
    By A279FW3N6CZ3RB on 2008-05-02
When I ordered paperback (bound as from publisher) and the book arrived looseleaf punched for a 3-ring binder, we didn't know until we opened it. I posted a review here to save others from the same problem but don't see it anymore. I know that Amazon will get a handle on all the different formats this book come in, and when tabs can be used. The info is available on the NFPA website so it should be easy.

I gave the 3-ring binder version to a buddy so now I want to buy AND RECEIVE the bound conventional paperback version but I can't get an answer from Amazon if the problem is corrected. I don't want to order again and get another looseleaf copy.

  • What I needed, Price I wanted.
    By AWX68WS6DGFTS on 2008-05-03
I needed this book for my required continuing education units to renew my license in the state of Oklahoma. The price was right, and if I had thought about it sooner (ha, ha) I would not have needed second day shipping and saved even more. Great product, great price.

  • Great buy long shipping
