T-Shirt Makeovers: 20 Transformations for Fabulous Fashionsx$15.40
    (17 reviews)
Best Price: $25.00 $15.40
From their vibrant offices in Harlem, New York City, fashion designers and entrepreneurs Carmia Marshall and Carmen Webber (the Sistahs of Harlem) are taking fashion to a fresh new level. The Sistahs’ groundbreaking mix of urban style and modern haute couture is gorgeous and distinctive; it has already earned praise from publications including YM, Essence, Jane, Seventeen, Time Out New York, and Ebony. Carmia and Carmen are poised to bring Harlem’s rich culture and bold style into the forefront of fashion design, and their first book embodies their creative, D.I.Y. sense of style. T-SHIRT MAKEOVERS takes the most basic street-style staple—the T-shirt—and shows us how to turn it into haute couture. The possibilities for a basic shirt are amazingly varied, and the Sistahs outline the steps for each creation: an intricate tank top, a kimono-style blouse, an asymmetrical dress, a ruffled top. Carmen and Carmia provide insights into body types, color use and personal style, inspiring readers to use their own fashion instincts to personalize their creations. With full-color photographs and step-by-step instructions, everyone—from beginners to experts—can find projects to suit their skills. Some blouses and dresses are complex and challenging; others are so quick and simple, you don’t even need a sewing machine. With such endless possibilities, T-SHIRT MAKEOVERS has wide appeal. Any young woman with an interest in high fashion, hip hop, or pop culture will find something inspiring here; any girl who values individuality, creativity, resourcefulness, or fiscal responsibility will love this opportunity to put her skills to work. The Sistahs of Harlem are known for their ability to incorporate various cultural influences into their work, and the styles on these pages take cues from the most unexpected places: the streets of Harlem, the bright lights of Tokyo, and the beaches of Cuba, to name a few. Each creation featured here has a rich background and personality, taking fashion beyond simple aesthetics and infusing it with meaning. With the Sistahs’ help, readers will see their old T-shirts spring to new life though their own hands.

Stunning By A3FGL6OJNBWABI on 2006-11-13
I love this book. I've bought quite a few of these tshirt makeover jobs, and been a little let down. But this - this beats them all. There are a bunch of ts I can see myself putting together. And they're different - not like some of the other books out there which give you 50 variations on the same theme. They range from bare to covered up, and each design is graded as to difficulty. There are photos of the Ts being worn by models, and great diagrams of how to do the work. There's even a secion at the beginning where the Sistahs go into body types, colour and so on. Very well done book. Really glad I bought it.
T-shirts for younger fashionistas By A1GPLRNNATEDNE on 2007-07-06
Hi. I'm 34 and somebody's mom. I will not be wearing many of these styles. I do want to do something a little different from the standard T, but Generation T spoke to me a bit more than this one. I do applaud their innovation, though, and I will use some of these ideas as inspiration, but most of the styles are a bit over the top for me. (The first design, I think, is the best one, and there's maybe one other that I will try.)
Coolest Book Ever!! By A2P1VQTQ01K84Q on 2006-10-10

Fashion Fun For All By A1U761GO6PNCGZ on 2006-11-28
T-Shirt Makeover is a great book for all ages. I purchased 1 book, loved it so much I decided it would be my gift of choice this year. The clear concise directions made it easy and enjoyable for even the "creatively challenged". The styles, ranging from conservative to ultra trendy allows something for everyone. We had a T-shirt Makeover party with guest ranging in age from 10 to 62, not only did we have great fun each guest left with a chic new top. I highly recommend this book.
A Must Buy By A2EDQ7NW7LU6RJ on 2006-09-28
If you don't have this book, you have no idea on what you're missing. The opportunity to be fashionable without even leaving your home. There are so many styles displaying ways to look good in a t-shirt and it's apparent that the styles are for all sizes. Well I have it and Thanks sistahs for wanting everyone woman to be sassy and funky in their old skin.

I love these designers! They have the hottest clothes. I'm just so glad that they came out with this book. So now I can make my own Sistahs of Harlem shirt. I can't wait to get started.
- T-Shirt Makeovers = Great book
     By AP0UIW32I6IBD on 2007-01-16
This has great ideas with complete instructions that are easy to follow. The first project we tried took 45 minutes and turned out exactly as the sample in the book. What a great way to make use of those extra unused T-shirts.
- MAKE your mind OVER this book first
     By A1P6IRLEYQTJTC on 2008-04-22
I purchased this book after Generation T; hoping for something more creative and challenging. I found Generation T a little too simple for my redesigning tastes. However, this turned out to be a little more than I bargained for. Just keep in mind:
THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS LITTLE OR NO EXPERIENCE WITH SEWING.
Unlike Generation T, where 1/3 of the designs are No Sew, T Shirt Makeovers requires a substantial amount of experience, and for several designs, a sewing machine.
Also, if you are a person who likes to cover themselves rather to wear anything revealing, or a person is self-conscious of how they body looks (esp. overweight) you will probably find yourself not recreating the designs in the book.
If you are a senior/advanced sewer with a sense of fashion and not epidermis-shy, you will probably find this book a golden edition in your DIY library.
For the newbies, I reccomend Generation T; which is as basic as you can possibly get.
The designs are appealing and sexy, and the Sistahs coach you on fashion secrets, color, and body types. I, myself do not plan to create any of these designs, (with the exception of the first one) but it's been good inspiration for me, and I am satisfied with my purchase.
- Great and Stylish
     By A2F2O7VI66DBUK on 2007-08-03
I'm 33 and would wear about 80% of the styles in this book.
The T-makeovers seem much more contemporary (not all 80's Madonna throwback) sophisticated yet fun and fresh compared to most of the other books of this kind. The photography, models, and style notes are top notch. Thank you Sistahs!
- Designs not realistic for average women

Very disappointed with this book, designs reveal lots of flesh, will work for only the very thin.
- I love this book!

I love this book, the instructions are clear and very precise. I have made almost every shirt in this book and when I wear them I always get a compliment! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves one of a kind garment and who like to dress outside the box.

- Excellent
     By A2SPODAK0LCLS1 on 2008-08-13
I have a host of t-shirts that I've started to convert. Some of the designs are okay but if you tweak it a little you can even refashion their designs. I'm quite happy I made the purchase.
- DIY Remixes
     By A3H10DJA4XCLBL on 2008-09-24
I purchased this book because of my DIY obsession. I was impressed by how informative the book is. Not only does the book give step by step instructions on how to achieve the designs but also talks about what fits best on body shapes, what colors work well with skin complexions, accessories, and more. I also own Generation T which is far less complicated and more beginner friendly. T-Shirt Makeovers is a great book and extremely informative but not for beginners. My knowledge of sewing and garment construction helped me to understand the guidelines to follow and the fact that I own a sewing machine helps as well, but for those who are new to the sewing and DIY world can get frustrated and confused. I recommend this book for the experienced and for those who are not, I recommend Generation T first. Overall the book was enjoyable and the designs impeccable.
