  • Great little book for all ages!

    By A1SGRFO1A3MX67 on 2007-05-15
This book visually conveys a message that is often difficult to explain to children, about finding happiness through spreading happiness. Kids understand it and love it, and it helps parents explain at a kid's level why someone was mean to them. It is definitely one to read and re-read and I only wish it came in hardback to withstand the use!

  • A fun and engaging way for children (and adults) to learn how to treat others

    By A28X0WOXSOERYD on 2006-08-15
The concept of bucket filling is one that kids can really understand and relate to. I read it to my three-year old, and now he asks for it every night. He loves the pictures and has even begun talking about bucket filling when he says something nice to someone. This book is a wonderful tool for families and teachers to give kids a visual way to think about kindness toward others. And it's a good reminder for adults, too!

  • Great Lessons To Be Learned

    By A30Q6R59CEH7Z3 on 2006-08-01
Words hurt. That's the simple truth. And bullies abound no matter what the age. If we can teach young children the power of words and teach them to use those words carefully, we can change the future of America.

This is one book every elementary teacher should have. And one book each teacher should discuss with their children.

  • A Terrific Book for Every Family and Classroom

    By A2HGO37IPZA3A2 on 2006-07-19
This book talks about how we can each fill each others buckets (a very nice metaphor beautifully illustrated with words and drawings). How do we become "bucket fillers"? By simple things like saying something kind, smiling, showing love, and making others feel special. The book gives great examples of
bucket filling, such as inviting a new kid to play,
and much more. I love this book and I want to share it
with everyone I know, especially families with kids. Based on the reactions of friends I've shown it to so far, the book has enormous appeal.

  • The most powerful, fun, and timely learning experience for kids I've seen

    By A2ERZDWF1N81JY on 2006-06-30
As parents, are well aware of the bullying problem in our schools, and we are additionally aware of the challenges we face as a society in dealing with this growing problem. This book provides the most powerful methodology I have seen, yet is stated in a way all kids can easily understand. Now my son is spreading this philosophy throughout his entire school! One more benefit that's quite rare for a children's book. As I read this to my son, I think I learned as much as he did!

  • A "Must Have" for every child (and adults, too!)
    By A1K5E54Q7YC6D9 on 2006-08-01
This book hits kids where they understand life- simple images. There's nothing like it with a more valuable message. Every child can wrap themselves around the everyday concept of a "bucket" and the illustrations capture the simple magic in an amazing way. Kids who read it not only start filling buckets with childlike innocence but for the first time they realize that they have the right to stop bucket dippers, the bullies who target them. It's the best investment you'll make this summer!

  • We absolutely LOVE this book!
    By A366I1I4C2JMOL on 2007-03-19
This is an excellent book. My daughter received it as a gift and we have bought them as gifts for others. It relates such a positive message. I highly recommend it to everyone! Our school has bought several copies since we shared it with out teachers. Now all the kids in my daughter's class have buckets on their desk that they are trying to fill! It is wonderful!

  • IT'S GOOD FOR US!
    By A3T7H001EJXMSV on 2007-10-08
The concept of the book is so simple yet so profound...
    BE KIND TO ON ANOTHER.
Why? Because it's good for us!
This book should be shared with children as well as adults!

  • From a mom with pre-schoolers
    By A2E9TQ8L4KN4Q5 on 2007-11-04
This book was propped up on display at the bookstore and the title was interesting enough, so I picked it up. I immediately could tell that the message was simple and clear and bought the book, even though we have plenty of books (so many that I usually can't justify buying another). I personally don't find many children's book all that great. Either the story is dumb or the wording is dumb, or there is no point. This one is really enjoyable for me to read because they learn from it each time, and even after the first time I read it to my 4 year old, she started talking about things that we shouldn't do that can hurt other people's feelings and "dip" from their bucket. The idea of a bucket of our "good feelings and thoughts" about ourselves creates a visualization my kids can relate to and understand clearly. This goes on my personal list of maybe 20 books I love to read my children.

  • Have you filled a bucket today: A guide to daily happiness for kids
    By A1IJXZVB4K34NW on 2007-01-09
Awesome book! My kids love it and I also gave it as teacher gifts this Christmas. The teachers love the book and are even using it in their classroom.

  • "Growing Happy Children"
    By A27ZRKUL17Z2JC on 2007-07-28
I love this book. It will make a great gift for the grandchildren! It is very positive, teaching good principles on how to treat others so children can grow up to be caring helpful adults. . . not self-centered!

  • Classroom management
    By AMHFMVWP0QK3A on 2007-09-04
I use this book in my classroom to help w/ classroom management. Everyday we discuss how we can be a "bucket filler" rather than a "bucket dipper". We write down an example of how to be a "filler" for the day and I have a student illistrate it for us. Even my kindergarten students grasp the concept.

  • Good Book for parent and child to share
    By A2NPUBKIKI1BSH on 2007-11-21
Serious content to nurture talk between parent and child, yet all within the grasp of the little one. The drawings are fascinating! The expression on the characters will stimulate the discussion on the feeling level. It was a gift, and dearly appreciated by father and son.

  • Great book- highly recommend!
    By A2GGVEU59MFV5M on 2007-12-31
This book is the Theme, if you will, for my children's school. It puts into perspective how kids can think of others first, and it is amazing how much kids want to respond. My kids were so excited about this whole concept, I had to get a copy of this book for home. This is a great resource to teach kids how to NOT be selfish. My children look for ways to fill buckets and they feel so good about themselves when they do.

  • Wonderful book!
    By AOCUTBX3J19K5 on 2008-01-12
This is a great book for pre school and elementary school children to understand how bullying can negatively affect others. It also shows how powerfully you can affect someone when you do something nice. The illustrations are bright, beautiful and engaging and the message is simple but so important. We all need our buckets filled on a regular basis. As an elementary school teacher's aide we use the concepts in the book with the children on a daily basis. We find that children really understand and enjoy filling the buckets of others. I gave copies of the book to my nieces and nephews and included some small plastic buckets and heart shaped beads so that they could have a visual and tactile experience of what it's like to fill the buckets of family members as well as having their own buckets filled. Please consider purchasing this beautiful book, you won't be sorry.

  • BUY THIS BOOK!!! Spread the word about filling your bucket ... before you kick the bucket.
    By AY0G4LADXP2Q1 on 2008-02-17
A friend of mine mentioned seeing Carol McCloud speak recently at her church. She told me the basic idea of her bucket filling philosophy and I was hooked. I make my living as a corporate entertainer and motivational speaker for corporate events. Corporations hire me to entertain and motivate their employees. I'm thrilled when I see a book like this that gets the message out to young children. If they take Carol's message throughout their life I think the world won't need to hire people like myself to motivate them. They'll already have their buckets full and be motivating themselves and others along the way! There goes my job in 20 years!!!!

After ordering this book I sat my children down and read it to them. The wonderful illustrations by David Messing drew them right in, along with Carol's wonderful story / lesson. It's a story but so much more it teaches them to care for others and do the right thing. It quickly registered with my kids. You could almost see their brains working as the bucket theory kicked in. It's not religious based and there isn't a hidden agenda. It's a feel good, do good, be good kinda book!!! :) We've had this book in our home for a week or so now and my kids keep asking me to read it to them. They "get it" and are being great little bucket fillers. Sure beats the "Santa is watching you. You better be GOOD!" ploy we've been trying for years!

I've already talked to the principal at my children's school and we hope to have Carol give a presentation there. Think the entire school would do leaps and bounds better if we had everyone trying to fill their buckets.

Thanks Carol for putting out a wonderful book.

My son has shared this book with this classroom, extended family, and daycare. I have used this book in my work with children. The terms in the book are used daily in my life.

  • Excellent book, especially for younger kids
    By A3QO34TIJE42GY on 2008-03-28
I'm not sure which age bracket this book targets, but I have a friend whose teenagers reference it all the time. Now, my four year-old does too. She now has something she can express when she's at a loss for words and it's difficult for me to get what's bugging her out in the open.

I haven't read the adult version, though it's been recommended by friends. I think I'll stick with this for a while, since it's become one of the most highly-requested books during our evening reading time together.

  • EXCELLENT, Get this for every child and teacher in your life!

  • Great concept for children AND adults
    By A2RMVGMFLVFWB6 on 2008-10-22
I bought this book for my two grandsons, ages 5 and 3, when they visited a few weeks ago. When I went to visit them last weekend, I was thrilled to hear their mom and them constantly referring to "filling someone's bucket". Both children understand that when you are being nice, you are filling other's buckets, AS WELL as your own, and that when being unkind, everyone's bucket gets emptied. I was so gratified to hear this, and would like the author to know how wonderful I think this book is. I highly recommend it for all ages!!

  • Filling Buckets
    By A35E59A54OZYPV on 2008-12-16
I absolutely would recommend this book to anyone with toddlers. My 3 and 5 year olds are always telling on each other when they are "emptying" buckets. It great to remind them that they have the ability to fill them right back up by being, or saying something nice. So far, it does the trick. It's really encouraging when I hear them saying nice things to each other (just to fill their buckets). My son took it to his school for show and tell. The teacher LOVED it so much she plans to order one to keep it in her school library!

  • Excellent book about kindess and self-esteem
    By A39A4F7F51JKDP on 2008-12-21
As a school social worker, I have used this book to teach social skill groups numerous times since I received it several weeks ago. Students of all ages are able to understand the concept. I now hear students saying "I filled a bucket today". A must buy!!

  • A Movement
    By A7D4UU6YYDJ6K on 2007-09-11
A collegue introduced this book to me. As Literacy Coach, I immediately took it back to the principal at my school. She was so excited that she read it at the beginning-of-the-year faculty meeting. The teachers are speaking the "fill the bucket" language and pushing themselves to fill each others' and the kids'. My principal is now going to use this book to promote our Anti-Bullying plan. This book has become a movement!!!

  • Effective Counseling Tool!
    By A18NKQU2IIG6HE on 2007-10-16
As a child's book, it's entertaining as well as instructional. Used in counseling it's therapeutic. It reminds us that we all have the need to be valued and treated kindly.

  • For Children and Adults alike. .
    By AD65F9SPITHN0 on 2008-02-07
I initially purchased this book for my grandsons but will now be purchasing another copy to share with them. This book is a wonderful reminder of how easy it is to impact someone's life, either positively or negatively. A great tool for character education that lends itself easily to hands-on activities.

  • Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
    By A2G31M1HUAX3FR on 2008-02-16
Wow! This book brings a very important concept to both children and adults and gives them terms that they can use afterward to communicate how we can be happy and how we can spread it around. My kids loved it on the first read. I took it to our children's school and showed it to the principal and it is now being read and taught at school. I even donated a copy to the book in the bag program and another copy for the library. This is a must have book for kids. Even my 3 year old understood it.

  • Love this book!
    By A2115DMKNH9B7U on 2008-05-25
This book is fantastic. I am an elementary school counselor and it was a big hit when I read it with the Kindergarteners and 1st graders at my school. After a month they are still talking about filling peoples buckets. The story and illustrations are very well done and it's easy for kids to understand. I highly recomend this book to any parent or educator. It's even a good read for adults!

  • GREAT lesson for children and adults!
    By A22Y40LMTV3XIP on 2008-07-15
Have you filled a bucket today is a wonderful book about being kind to others! Filling someone's bucket or bucket dipping is such an easy concept for children to understand. It has helped make my children aware of other people's feelings. I highly recommend Have you filled a bucket today! And I have heard fabulous things about "the bucket lady!"

  • 10 stars!!
    By A10E7VH5Y5SOMV on 2008-03-27
I would rate this book 10 stars if possible! My 2 &4 year olds love this book because it explains when kids are being hurtful and how they should handle the situations. We end each day by asking whose bucket did you fill (it has even become a part of our behaviour chart!). LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
