Amazing Value By A2P5844QWYE27O on 2007-02-15
I purchased the Sushi Deluxe Book & Kit as a gift and ended up keeping it for myself. The book is small but informative which is why I rated it a 4 instead of 5. The really amazing value is the kit. The chopsticks and accompanying dishes are very good quality. It also comes with a bamboo mat for making sushi rolls. Based upon quality and price I would recommend this item to anyone who is a novice at sushi making.
Sushi in a snap. By AXCPZ10N239NO on 2007-04-22
I bought this kit because my wife and I are addicted to Sushi, but the cost was killing us. To aleaviate the financial strain we decided to learn to make Sushi ourselves. This kit has it all; An easy to read how to booklet, bamboo rolling mat, dipping dishes, rice molds for sashimi and four sets of reusable chop sticks. All of this together in a very nice storage box package. As for solving our sushi desire it has. Although making sushi is a time consuming ordeal at first, once you get the hang of it you will want to throw sushi parties for all your friends. The hardest part of making sushi would be perfecting the sticky rice and locating all the ingredients at your local supermarket, but as far as cost goes you will spend a fraction of what it costs to purchase ready made sushi in a resteraunt or market.
Sweet little kit By AICQQMDQRUFRS on 2007-04-10
This is a cute little kit. It comes as a pressboard cabinet with drawers containing the chopsticks, rice press and book. It has everything you need to get started trying your hand at sushi preparation. I recommend it.
Everything you need to get started By A1D98BFYISNW4O on 2007-01-09
This kit includes the bamboo rolling mat, chopsticks (and chopstick rests), bowls for dipping and a rice mold in addition to the book. It comes in a deluxe box with drawers to store your tools. The book fairly clear, although I had trouble figuring out how to roll with the mat.
I was very happy with this kit, especially the price!
oiishi! tremendous deal! By A13P02E264DT4A on 2008-01-07
Dare I refer to myself as a sushi connoisseur, I have had my fill of great sushi from all over Japan, Hawaii, California, and the east coast... You can imagine the inversely proportional satisfaction that has had on my wallet! When looking for a gift for my girlfriend, I decided to search for a sushi kit, as I figured this would be a win-win situation for me (she loves sushi, and now she'll make it for me!). Going through reviews on Amazon and other sites, I found this kit to include all the hardware you need and a simple, elegant instructional guide... I was excited to receive the kit in the mail.. I mean give it to my gf!
anyways, having made sushi many times before, i was a bit skeptical of the quality of the materials and the low price point... however, when my gf opened the package, i was amazed to see the quality of the bamboo mat, the beautiful chopsticks, shoyu (soy sauce) dishes, and even a nigiri press! the guide was perfect for a newbie to sushi making, but it even provided me, the sushi master himself, some tips on making great inside out rolls (wait, sushi rolls aren't authentic japanese, but they're good!)!
mmmMMMmm... that's all i have to say about this kit, or as japanese say, oishiii! this kit is perfect to fuel your sushi addiction, and is an absolutely amazing bargain!
- Nice little set
     By A364WGI89I8EX6 on 2007-01-15
This was a nice little gift set. It was packaged very nicely and the book was superb. The book included lots of nice color pictures for you to use as a guide and had a lot of diagrams for you to use.
- Great Buy!
     By A1A794LAZ5P38M on 2007-05-17
This is a wonderful purchase for the beginning sushi chef! Very informative and easy to understand.
- It covers the basics
     By A1FH4MGJ3WVFM3 on 2008-01-18
This kit makes a great gift for anyone thinking of making sushi at home for the first time.
As the description states it contains some utensils, a rolling mat, and a rice form. The rice form is pretty much useless since it is quicker and easier to form the rice by hand. The book is small and only has the basics, so if you are looking for more advanced recipes, you will need to look for other books.
The included book does do a pretty good job of getting any beginner started making good sushi at home, so for the price its not bad at all.
- Great Value
     By A1WCHAEFUKLAI7 on 2008-01-18
I was a little bit worried about the book, but it is easy to follow and gives instructions and recipes that the novice sushi chef understands. The additional accessories are handsome and durable. I had a great time making sushi with this kit and I would recommend it as a gift for anyone who enjoys sushi but doesn't want to pay what the restaurants charge.
- Good for the money
     By A2815ZLWHS06UR on 2007-02-21
The book seems a little complicated, it says it's for beginners but then contradicts itself by saying, "this is how the pros do it...." We haven't tried the set out yet but it's a good basic beginner's set. I think the book should be more geared towards beginners. It's nice that it does show different kinds of sushi and what exactly goes into them.
- Very good guide book
     By AL66NM1G318YO on 2007-08-23
Once we got our mind to doin it, this book has been of great help, easy to follow at least so far, we have not attempted all the sushi recipes as yet, but so far so good the first ones.
- Sushi Kit Has everything you need for great sushi
     By A13LFVXXZ2UU2V on 2007-09-12
Everything you need for great sushi. Including 4 sets of chopsticks. I'm thinking about getting another in order to have another matching set.
- my dad loved it
     By AB2HF55W89I4D on 2008-01-06
I bought this for my dad thinking he'd get into making sushi himself since he's always loved it. When I gave it to him, I wanted it myself. It is a very nice kit...especially for the money. I'm surprised it's not $40+. I haven't gotten to read the sushi recipe book inside, but that's all junk you can find on the internet in 5 seconds anyway. The physical aspect of all the pieces is great. (rolling mat, soy dishes, serving tray, chop sticks, maybe more, I forget) In any case my brother called me a few days later, and I was right, my dad is obsessed with making it himself now.
- great gift
     By APZ04KPT4VJYI on 2007-09-21
this is a great intro to sushi, i bought one for myself and gave another as a gift. It was perfect.
- excellent quality
     By A2YK2XLT11DPYA on 2007-11-05
This beautiful set totally exceeded my expectations for the price. I was expecting a mat, a book, two sets of chopsticks, two dipping bowls, and a rice mold. I didn't realize that they would come in a lovely gift box that opens from the side and allows each component to slide out as a book comes out of its case. The book isn't terribly detailed, but it's a good starter. If you really want to go all-out for someone, get them an additional book to use with the set.
- Great Beginner's Set! Awesome Gift For The Sushi Lover!
     By AFVBT8WDNB0OM on 2007-11-29
I bought this set as a gift for a family member. Going out to sushi every other weekend can sure become costly. However, the in home kit is quite explanatory and easy for the beginner! It's great for someone who loves sushi, has the time to prep it, and doesn't care for the cost!
- An excellent kid-t and a wonderful book!
     By A1CG3S4HKI9RSX on 2007-12-14
This kit and book completes my collection of sushi/sashimi books and the kit makes it a REAL plus. Thanks!
- Sushi: It's what's for dinner!
     By A2X61KKXXR6WNP on 2007-12-19
This is a great kit! All the things you need are here, with the exception of the food and a knife. I followed the instructions in the book and made a bunch of rolls. Nice presentation box too, if you are giving this as a gift.
For the food items, try this: Sushi Kit
For the knife, try this one: Joyce Chen 6-1/2-Inch Santoku Knife with Ho wood handle
For better instructions, this book is fantastic: Sushi for Dummies
- Great Gift Book
     By A3ICTNVOHMPK5R on 2007-12-26
I purchase the Sushi deluxe Book & Kit before Christmas and was a hit with my sister.
Now, I order 3 more Sushi deluxe book & kit for my girlfriend and friends.
I just hope Amazon don't run out of this great gift.
- Beautiful Kit
     By A13TEZE1F09ET2 on 2008-01-01
Received this as a gift for Christmas. It is a great kit. I love the presentation in the box with drawers, it's a great way to keep it all together. I also love that it tells you how to make your own pickled ginger because I have a difficult time finding sushi products in my local grocery stores. As a sushi beginner, I found the book easy to follow and very informative. The rest of the kit is also of very good quality.
- Any more help?
     By A1Q7S7JGN2A6F3 on 2008-01-04
I am a beginner but found this gift as a nice surprise. Can anyone that reads this and has some tips help tell me also other guides/books that they might recommend? I am very interested in expanding my beginning. Thanks for any suggestions given I have several books in the wish list but wondered if anyone has a strong suggestion what next for the most informative guide to jumpstart my learning to gain a solid start?
- Good for gifts, for your own is overpriced
     By A2NYFVJ1RK2W11 on 2008-03-24
The product itself its good for a gift, i mean nice box, nice presentation, etc. But if your planning to make sushi for yourself, you better go to your local market, buy stuff and save like 80%.
I know because i made it.
- Cant beat the price
     By A3JWGWDRYTZG1W on 2008-03-25
The kit was well worth the price and was a good way to introduce myself to the world of homemade sushi. The book was brief, so I would still recommend reading different opinions online. Overall a good buy.
- Grerat Starter kit
     By A1FY7SLMOA9S46 on 2008-04-08
I've never made my own sushi before. This kit is great; there is a sushi press, mat and instructions on how to make your own sushi. I highly recommend this to anyone thinking about making there own sushi.
- At least it was low cost.
     By A1F7LLRF3OLOT0 on 2008-04-29
The box this kit arrives in is beautiful. The only problem was I had to pry the drawers open with a screw driver as they were jammed shut, and this wasn't easy. The good - The sushi making book has good information. The rectangle mold for molding sushi works great. The okay - The chopsticks, holders, and dishes are all usable. The bad - The bamboo roller was totally covered in mold and had to be thrown out. I purchased a silicone sushi roller at our local kitchen store which is fantastic! It works much better than bamboo, and washes and dries beautifully. Overall, this kit was low cost, so I didn't ask for my money back.
