At the focal point of every so-called problem, there is a lever. And if we were to only take it up, we could lift our world instead of being frightened and overwhelmed by it. Leverage is the multiplier effect that lets you create tipping points that help you lift your world. Inspiration for Leverage comes from Archimedes, the early Greek mathematician who proclaimed, "Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I could lift the world." Checketts has written a book that shows us where our levers are in every situation. Because the fast-paced world we live in is all about leverage - those with it, win; those without it, stay mired in the muck. Leverage contains 25 keys to greater leverage for leadership in business and success in life. You will learn how to: • Demystify the idea of vision and make it the force for getting where you intend to go. • Discover what you really want and what you must give to get it. • Embrace the 21st Century standard of excellence: What is theoretically possible? • Move beyond conflict resolution to harness the power of opposites. • Turn on your "receptive force" to hear what the world is trying to tell you. • Make commitment the most magnificent word in your vocabulary. • Achieve crystal-clear agreement with those who share your destiny. • Discover four distinct dimensions of thinking that will deepen your understanding and invigorate your intuition. • Expand your partnerships as the most powerful way to extend your leverage. • Know the value of what you create to build the wealth that will last. Checketts will take you to memorable places, introduce you to fascinating personalities, and explore situations that illustrate the power of the leverage we all seek.

Darby Checketts has simplified professorial ruminations By A2QEZU2SHYBHM5 on 2006-05-30
The Tipping Point was a great book that illustrated how small things can make a big difference in consumer choices. However, I felt it failed in applying the concept to the real world we live in. Darby Checketts picks up where Tipping Point left off and makes it an applicable and valuable concept for business owners like myself and marketing and sales managers in businesses of all kinds.
I think you'll get a lot out of this book, particularly if you've enjoyed his Customer Astonishment book or have heard and enjoyed his speeches.
Leverage: How to Create Your Own "Tipping Points"... By A1JLC9RWB3MQPB on 2006-09-20
In all fairness to the author, I did not read the entire book. I couldn't bare to go on. However, if the second half of the book was as poorly written, sporadic in thought, and self-promoting as the first half...I couldn't have endured the frustration.
Chapter after chapter, I waited with anticipation for some meat, some well researched point that I could sink my teeth into, and apply to my busy life. I was disappointed! This book was more of a "tooting of the author's horn" about his world travels, and how he has help his client's succeed... than it was about helping the reader to actually use leverage as a tool of success in business and in life.
You would think that a book written on leverage would, at the very least, provide more value than its purchase price. In my opinion...it didn't!
great book By A5LZ0P5W967DR on 2006-05-02
I enjoyed this book because it has excellent practical application to both business and non-business aspects of life, yet at the same time is very personal, straightforward, and readable. Great use of interesting personal experiences from the author's life. The stories and symbols/images used make the main points easy to remember and apply. It's motivational, makes you really think about what you are meant to do in your sphere of the world. I loved the dedication, just-right conclusion, and everything in between!
Please don't wait another day..........apply "Leverage" to change your world By A1Y3K0PA2RG3UN on 2006-05-16
If you want to get more joy, more sense of accomplishment, out of your personal and professional life, read this book, pick a few of the "levers" Darby illustrates and start applying them today. I guarantee your world will move. I know because I have used many of these levers in my life after Darby shared them with me in a seminar year's ago.
This book is a wonderful compilation of Darby's personal insights and the influences he has leveraged to establish his gospel of "Customer Astonishment" yet, it so much more. It contains an easy to understand road map for getting your priorities in order and directions for how to make a BIG impact both personally and professionally. I encourage anyone who wishes to achieve more and is struggling for a way to gain traction to read this book ......... then read it again ............ then start applying the leverage. Great things will happen in your life if you do!
Substantive and enlightening: 25 keys to powering-up your life. By A1OJ4Y9Z5CHSJF on 2006-06-13
If you have ever wished for more talent, more time, and more resource to solve some problem or accomplish some great or small purpose, I advise you to pick up a copy of Leverage and consume it as you would an energy bar. In anecdotal, easy to digest style and format, Darby Checketts reveals the levers within us and within reach of all of us with the power to move seemingly immovable forces and set in motion events that will lift our personal, family, and business worlds.
Darby's 25 keys to leveraging one's world are timeless principles creatively written with the imperative of a world-class coach and trainer. Leverage has motivated and instructed me on how to use these levers to lift and benefit my world and those around me: they work! Read it, and then share it with a loved one or business associate.
- Wrong Label
     By A1ZXQUSMHCCSHO on 2006-09-01
Darby's book Leverage is incorrectly labeled "Business/Motivation" on the inside of the front cover. It should have been labeled "Personal Motivation". Having read several of Darby's books and participated in his seminars at my company, I expected his interweaving of personal life with business goals and success. What I didn't expect was to read a book that was not about business. This book is about you. Are you the person you want to be and are you living the life you want to live? If not, this book will provide you the motivation to get on track.
- This book has nothing to do with the excellent book "The Tipping Point"
     By A2HXXSBPPQLQ1B on 2006-12-05
I bought this book because Amazon recommended it when I added "The Tipping Point" to my cart. I must say that I was deeply disappointed when I read this book. It has NOTHING at all to do with creating the kind of tipping points covered by "The Tipping Point" even though the subtitle is "How to Create Your Own "Tipping Points" in Business And in Life".
In fact it is a bad book about how God protects sick children in Africa and other nonsense.
Stay away from this book!
- Leverage is a great book!
     By AQKNOA63ZCHI1 on 2006-05-03
I've been a Darby fan for years however this is by far his best work. I would equate this to an extension of the Who moved my cheese offering a few years back. Leverage suggests ways and opportunities that can be tipped for the best outcome. It's more of a philosphy that gives you that "blinding flash of the obvious" feeling. By book, read the book and keep the book! It's a quick read that you will want to read again.
- This is a great and important book.
     By A2QI4OCVO3015M on 2006-08-31
I just finished reading this great book. Wow, what a fanstastic read.
I am not a businessman, but I am in business. As a retired Marine and current Director of Technology for a university research organization, I have always had clues as to why I succeeded (or didn't) when working on different tasks. I'm as introspective as the next guy, maybe more so, but it can be difficult to pinpoint all the critical things that had to be driven or guided together in order to end up with a war-ready unit, good inspection results, or a well-received, synergistic technical plan. Mr. Checketts has reduced that problem for me with this book. The 25 points that he discusses are remarkably simple yet remarkably difficult to capture in retrospect or to apply in action. He has presented a uniquely uncomplicated framework for living -- not a checklist. This framework, once adopted, allows us to contribute to the success and betterment of my own self, you, and the rest of us in our community/society/country/world. Yeah, it's that good. I suggest loaning or giving this book to everyone you care about; leave several more lying around for the occassional interested bystander. They will all thank you for it.
- Creating & Using Leverage & Tipping Points a process
     By A1IOYHQXLT8W33 on 2006-12-12
Great Reading for business or personal interest!
Having owned several small businesses I was intrigued by Darby's latest book. Over the past year or so I've been trying to implement some of the concepts he brings out, and my reading of "Leverage" was perfect timing. His book has helped to clarify my ideas and put 'meat' on the bones of a more solid business plan.
His personal touches help to bring into focus the reality that the 'business' person cannot be separated from the 'whole' person. Using his 25 Leverage Points will be of great value in bringing the process to full circle. The values he describes are very strong.
Thanks, Darby!
- World-Class Leverage
     By AT0MFZ66SWU39 on 2007-01-07
'Leverage' is a book I will refer to repeatedly for years to come. In it, Mr. Checketts showcases how The Archimedes Leverage Factor applies in every area of our lives. He brings home our ability to achieve our dreams and create excellence in the world around us, while maintaining that critical life-balance that results in true joy. I am enlighted by his wisdom and heart felt anticdotes which illustrated universal principles of good character and success. I highly recommend this book and plan to use it in my own coaching practice. 'Leverage' is a book I can give with confidence to those I teach and love.
Thank you, Darby. I have officially added you to my list of personal Heroes and am anxiously awaiting your next book of wisdom.

- Not a good book about leverage
     By A20PYO1JZSZD0D on 2007-01-08
Amazon should not link this poor substitue of a book about leverage with "Leverage" by Ron Pate. Avoid the mistake that I made.
- Darby Checketts the Motivator
     By A2Z9PAO5ORY4M0 on 2007-01-20
I'm especially impressed by the contagious enthusiasm in reading Darby's book, and the tremenduous images one can create of goal completion and personal fulfillment. Of special interest was the idea of getting out the book that is within you. I feel this read has helped motivate me to do that. No one could come away empty-handed from reading this book who has whole-heartedly considered its message.

- Get the Music Out
     By A2AF7L9MNDQ43C on 2006-08-14
I have a wonderful retirement plan that involves getting my
music out! I have a wonderful husband, home and dog. When we found our dog (yellow lab, golden retriever mix), I found the books that I always said were in me. Leverage has given me the boot-kick to get out there to test the waters on weekends with my childrens' books. Once again, you've touched another life in a very meaningul way. Thank you, Darby!
- Creating personal leverage points
     By A2MGUNKW1ANLT5 on 2007-01-06
I was a little put off by the personal and religious remarks while reading this book - some of them were unnecessary and rather lengthy. However, now that I'm looking back through my notes, I've come to appreciate many of Darby's ideas. I found a lot of motivational quotes, stories, and thoughts. It's a worthwhile read, it forced me to sit down and re-evaluate, and define many new goals - it's about taking control, after all, our world is what we make of it.
