• Very excellent unit for bad spellers on the go!!!

  I've had one of these for over 14 years now, when they first started coming out. My brother has the original one I got freshman year in high school, and I have one I got junior year. This item is still very much the same as it was 14 years ago, just a little sleaker and smaller. Very easy to use, turn on, type the word, and search. It still has thesaurus and games, and as reviews below mention, occasionally still brings up entertaining words if you are as bad of phonetic speller as I am. This item is excellent to save you from digging through pages of a dictionary in search of just a spelling, and not the definition. A must if you can't even get the first 3 letters square like I do looking up words. Most of these models will also play hangman with you, amongst a few other games to try and work with your spelling skills. The spelling ace my brother still has actually contained many definitions. These little machines are worth their weight in gold for highschoolers and college folks writing paper, even with spell check on the computer.

  We got this for mother-in-law. She uses it mainly for crossword puzzle help, and loves it. It has lots of other features too, including spell correction, games, calculator. Would be good to take when traveling. The size is perfect to fit into a pocket or purse. Just a handy little gadget. It already has battery.

  My ten year old son was begging for one of these. I didn't want to buy it.
  I came accross this one and got it anyway because the price is reasonable. He has prgrammed phone numbers into it, it has a calculator and has spelling games too. It is worth every penny. I am now getting one for my middle son too. LOVE IT!

  This was one of the prizes we ordered for a High School spelling bee, and it has been greatly enjoyed. In all honesty, adults seem to be just as impressed with it (if not more) than the kids are.
  
  Pros:
  --Good spelling games
  --Large Print
  --Easy to use
  
  Cons:
  --The only negative, and it is a small one, is that the cover seems a bit flimsy
  
  All in all, this does exactly what it says it does and is easy to use, durable, and extremely helpful!

• Excellent for 3rd grader

  My daughter wanted this to improve her writing skills in the third grade. Because she can look up words she may not know how to spell on her own she is using more complex words in her papers now. Her teacher encourages students to get one of these so they expand the use of their vocabulary. It is remarkably cheap for the features. My daughter also figured out how to play the games that come with it too. Go figure.

  I bought two of these for my kids ages 10 and 12 this Christmas. They both love it! They've reported that it has been extremely helpful at school for writing assignments and projects. I see them using it at home a lot, too. It's easy to use...and my kids can't resist showing me all the different functions it has...All in all, a very useful purchase that also delights.

  I write a lot of notes to friends ,and family , but have always been a bad speller. This was a perfect gift to myself. Well worth the money.
  
  
• Too small for big fingers

  This is mostly my fault.I should have looked closer at the size of the machine.My fingers are just to big for the tiny keyboard.Also i did not need a system that plays games or stores phone numbers.Also it only gives you one example of the correct spelling when others machines i have seen gives you two or three,but when your spelling is as poor as mine anything will help.

  We had an earier version that lasted for years . My wife did not want to replace it but death is final.
  She loves the new one with all the enhancements plus we didnt lose any screen size though the new one is more compact. Occupies grandkids forever!

  It works for my daughter, accurately finding words that she has no clue how to spell (e.g., "becuz" immediately found "because"). The one that arrived was black; she and I would have preferred the blue that was pictured.
