  • Extraordinary....even after my third reading!

    By A1H3S4KTB6QJ8H on 2000-07-09
For the record, I picked up this book about two years ago for the first time, and I have read it in its entirety twice since then. This is a masterpiece. You will never forget these stories.

Through the stories of ordinary people who have accomplished extraordinary things, Cynthia Kersey gives you insight into your own potential for greatness. This is not just another "come on, you can do it"-type of book. The people highlighted in this book are real. They are just like you and me, but they live with "purpose that ignites the spirit". They probably never thought of themselves as "great", and perhaps they never set out to be highlighted in a book like this, but they are...and for good reasons Kersey painstakingly outlines at the end of each chapter (Your Personal Action Plan). Her writing is taunt and flawless. A companion workbook is also available and I would advise anyone to make good use of it. Let Cynthia show you how and WHY you should!

This is definitely a book that you will refer to again and again, as I have. It can give you the renewed faith and conviction you need to get up every day and follow your dreams. You'll never think of yourself as ordinary again!

  • Motivating and inspiring stories

    By A1T6PXM2M3N84A on 2002-02-28
As the title indicates, this book contains 45 powerful and inspirational stories of various people who overcame adversity, discouragement or any manner of other obstacles to change their life. These were ordinary people, just like us, who accomplished wonderful things because they persevered. Using these stories Cynthia Kersey shows you how to find your own strengths and greatness within so that you can change your life. Complete with a personal action plan to help you reach down inside and bring these qualities out in your life, it is a wonderful book and belongs on the bookshelf of anyone trying to change their direction in life or find the courage to travel the path they really want to walk.

  • The right kind of inspiration.

    By A3EURGOIEBJWKD on 1999-12-11
This is not just another collection of true stories because the KIND of stories collected here make all the difference. These are not just stories of people making a million dollars by making a cheaper product and beating the competition. These are the kind of stories that encourage people to succeed by doing good works in the world. They are the kind of stories you will want to read to your children. If you have a goal that is difficult but you feel really needs to be done, this is the book for you. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I know what works. This book will inspire you to action.

  • From one "unstoppable" person to another, "Get this book!"

    By on 1999-07-01
I am a voracious reader of personal development and spiritual growth books, and I must say that Cynthia has written one of the best self-help books I have ever read (even better than the classic Think & Grow Rich). She not only tells you the triumphant stories of "ordinary people," she gives you the action plan for becoming extraordinary yourself. The book is 300+ pages long, and I finished it in two days. I couldn't put it down, and now, neither can my friends. Thanks Cynthia for a priceless gift.

  • Most inspiring book I have ever read!

    By A100UD67AHFODS on 2006-06-16
I have read hundreds of inspirational books, and "Unstoppable: 45 Powerful Stories of Perseverance and Triumph from People Just Like You," is the most powerful, moving and motivating book I have ever read. Some of the short stories literally brought me to tears. To read the incredible struggles that these individuals went through to achieve their dreams, proves that anything is truly possible if you have the right attitude. If you feel that you need that extra push to start a project, or are constantly afraid of failure, after reading the 45 stories in this amazing book, you are guaranteed to have a new outlook on life. This book is a classic.

Praises for Cynhia Kersey's masterpiece of the human spirit! I just bought the book two days ago and couldn't put it down. As a matter of fact, I'm shopping for something else to read because I've just completed Unstoppable. Just when you think you're going to put the book down to get some sleep, you realize you're half done reading it and want to read some more. I read dozens of motivational books while in undergrade preparing to enter Dental School, and this ranks up there with the best... the Zig ziglars, Og Mandino's, Norman Vincent Peales, etc. If you've ever thought there was something in life you wanted to do, but never accomplished because of FEAR or that negative CAN"T, or was told that you COULDN"T, these negatives will be banished from your vocabulary FOREVER! Unstoppable gives countless examples of the depths from which the human spirit can raise anyone and everyone. I would encourage people of all ages to read and re-read this masterpiece. I will!

  • probably deserve 5 stars

I actually stumbled across this book by accident looking for another book.As many years as I have been reading self help books this is the best read I have so far encountered. This book is sacred for me.The stories are unbelievably inspirational and once you get inspired there's an action plan that the author herself used to follow her dream. The authors story is the most motovational for me. I gave this book 4 stars because I dont think the action plan towards the end isnt for people starting from scratch (bottom of the barrel), nevertheless if you ignore whats not useful this book could be a lifsaver.I encourage everyone to keep this book as a reference. Very highly reccommended.

  • This is an Awesome book - Must own for achievers!

I came across this book by accident in our local library. It's not just good, not just great--it's awesome!Filled with motivating stories and an action plan Unstoppable also details the qualities and characteristics to become unstoppable and how to develop them.I also recommend Turner, Turner, Turner: The King of Network Marketing and The Unstoppable American to read about another Unstoppable spirit that doesn't know the meaning of the word "Quit"

  • One small story can change an entire life.
    By A1A9XOJRV3GBY1 on 2000-01-11
One particular story in this book is one that everybody should read. I loved the powerful prose and disturbingly familiar motivational phrases - they helped me get out of bed in the morning. The lesson we can learn from Bill Porter: triumphs don't need to be big to be large. It's like swimming with sharks: you can be wet, but you don't have to die, too. Other stories in this book struck a chord with me, but Bill Porter's love for life will always ring true in my heart of hearts, my gut of guts..he is LOVE. I thoroughly recommend this book.

  • Unstoppable
    By AB48QSK6Z3IS3 on 2004-01-14
Unstoppable confirmed once again the miracles in our higher power. This book literally jumped off the shelf and into my hands one day while I was wandering around in Kinkos. My boyfriend had recently passed away. Work had lost it's thunder and I was feeling as if reached my best, that there was no longer any challange left. I was lost, lonely and scared. Besides the idenity that died with Jeff, I lacked the self confidence it would take to grow professionally. The desire was there, in fact I had to get focused on something or I would continue to isolate in the shrine I had built in my bedroom. Then I turned the page. It was as if a devine interception had taken place. I began flipping through like crazy. I wanted to read every story right then and there. But the single story that changed my life was Stephen Cannal's (sp) story. You have to buy your own copy for that story. Mr. Cannal and I had something in common. It just so happened to be the one thing that had always kept my self esteem at a lower level. I was convinced I could only be so successful, and there was a limit. I knew it, felt it and believed it with all I had. After reading that chapter over and over again. Mr. Cannal became this giant genious to me. After telling his story to everyone I knew as if he were a miracle, after buying every book off the shelf at Kinkos for months and giving them as gifts to anyone I thought needed a shot in the arm, that limit suddenly became my miracle. Suddenly I could do anything, anything I wanted to do. I could be president if I wanted it bad enough. Wow how empowering and liberating is that? Since that very day I have blossomed professionally and spiritually and I too have achieved the unspeakable. I too am Unstoppable. Thank you Cynthia you will always have a place in my heart. Sorry about the drama, but it's all so true Micki Elliot Real Estate Consultant and Personal Coach. 949.500.6890

  • Don't judge a book by it's cover
    By AELJYEI7SCKRW on 2007-01-10
I was disappointed by this book.

It does offer stories of people who overcame diversity to become successful in their chosen field.

However, there is a lot of 'self-help' stuff in here... 'Your personal action plan' etc... NOT what I was expecting nor what I am interested in.

I found myself getting frustrated and skipping all of the self-help sections.

I also found that some of the stories lacked important information. For example, in the story about Kemmons Wilson (the founder of Holiday Inn), the story jumps from him leaving school and never wanting to be poor again, to having 'varying levels of business success', to buying 150 hotels...

If you can buy 150 hotels, you must have made a pretty big success out of something - but the book makes no mention of what he did to go from poverty to 150 hotels. For me, that would more than likely be a more motivating and interesting story than the one in the book, where he goes from rich to richer.

This book still has good stories and is probably still worth buying, but I just didn't expect to be bombarded with self-help stuff, I was more interested in reading business stories than reading a self improvement seminar handbook.

  • Everyone in recovery should read this book.
    By A23IHDSSQQ7HET on 2000-05-01
If you have ever been in a situation where you had to make a comeback in life then you will appreciate the book "Unstoppable." I wish I had this book six years ago when I was $90,000 in debt and fresh off a drug and alcohol problem. Anybody who needs inspiration to overcome this type of obstacle needs "Unstoppable," as a road map back to the human race.

  • A MUST READ FOR ALL AGES!!!
    By on 1998-09-05
If you're searching for your purpose in life, this book can show you the way. If you're unhappy in your job, or with your life in general, this book will inspire you to do something about it. Filled with inspiring stories about regular people who persevered and triumphed over great challenges and obstacles -- all for the sake of their dreams. It leaves no excuses for the rest of us to sit around doing nothing but crying and feeling sorry for ourselves. It can give you the strength and the confidence to take action towards your desires. This book is a tribute to what the human spirit can accomplish. I loved it! It's the kind of book you read and tell your friends about. Do yourself a favor -- READ THE BOOK!!!

  • Good stories poorly written
    By A16723ZETJAWIS on 2001-03-31
I picked up this book on the recommendation of a friend who ran across it at Kinko's. The book is a collection of short examples of people (primarily in business) who have overcome obstacles and set backs in their lives to, eventually, accomplish what they set out to do. Many of the stories are very good and the quotes are often interesting, enlightening, and often humorous.

On the other hand, the sections of the book that are meant to be used a workshop on becoming Unstoppable are both poorly organized and pedantic. Also, and the main reason it gets only 3 stars from me, is that the stories are usually poorly written. While there are not many typos or use of poor grammar, the FLOW of the book is choppy. When I read one or more of the stories out-loud to co-workers or friends (something for which I find the book useful), I usually have to re-word sentences on the fly or skip certain sections. If more time and care had been used to make the book flow better, I would have been much happier.

  • If they can do it...so can I
    By A1LH88LRQZYSKV on 2003-11-19
Very timely, informative, inspirational and practical. This book is written for people who have a burning desire to manifest their potential. I continue to be motivated by all of the real life stories of people just like me. I highly recommend this book because any reader will discover someone with similar challenges who managed to overcome. Read it and become a force. This book is not for someone who wants to remain average.

  • Good stories, but leaves a lot more to be desired
    By A2KOAS3J3FGRK4 on 1999-02-14
When I got this book, I cannot wait to savor the full experience of each of these great individuals. Unfortunately, each of the stories were mere summaries. Hardly any details were provided. There were many occassions where I read that the hero/heroine had overcame some obstacles or had acquired certain skills. Then the next question I asked was HOW? For these stories to be inspirational, a lot more detail is needed. Simply stating the fact that so and so did that or overcame this after X number of years of hard work and finally accomplished the mission simply isn't enough. More specific events should be highlighted. And most importantly, what mental process did they go through as they were experiencing each hardship?

I hope Cynthia's next book will include a richer story rather than just a 2-4 page synopsis for each of story.

  • Simply Unstoppable

This is a great inspirational book for all the ones who are currently questioning the direction of their lives. Read it!!!

  • Wonderfully inspirational and fascinating book!
    By on 1998-05-31
Cynthia Kersey tells how dozens of people (some famous, but more who are not) triumphed over amazing obstacles to achieve success and personal fulfillment. Don't miss the story of a young African boy who walked barefoot across Africa to become....(but you have to read it yourself!). The stories are sometimes touching, sometimes funny, but always inspirational. Most importantly, she tells how you can become "unstoppable" in your own life. Speaking as someone who has traditionally avoided "self-help" books, or found them boring....Cynthia Kersey's book is a "must read."

  • Motivating, great conversation topics, and just simply great
    By A2HU6P0I2LV7EX on 1999-11-16
Cynthia Kersey just spoke for the Womens Council of Realtors in Orlando, Florida at our Annual National Convention. She had given each and every one of us (approximately 400-500) this book as a gift. This book will touch anyone with perserverance, anyone looking for an answer, and anyone who needs the little "umph" to keep reaching for their dreams. I highly recommend this book for anyone of all ages! It is very easy to read and will have stories of people or products that we have come to know. What a great history lesson! I was very surprised as to how hard it was to put down. We had never heard of Unstoppable until Cynthia came to our luncheon. If you are looking for the perfect holiday gift for someone - anyone! - this is it! Don't pass it up!

  • Very Inspirational
    By on 2000-07-14
This book is really inspirational. When I came across this book in a bookshop, I just read 1 story n I was totally in love with it! It tells everyone that nothing is IMPOSSIBLE & that if u are willing to perservere, u'll definately succeed one day. Nothing can block u from ur route to success. It's kind of similar to chicken soup but I think that it's 100% more interesting n inspirational. After reading this, u'll sure want to triumph like those in the stories!Enjoy reading this book!

  • A Must Read
    By AKUQY60YL6RPE on 2001-06-30
This book is similar to the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series. Personally, I think the stories in this book are better and more motivational. What makes this book worth the read is the action plan for making your dreams unstoppable. Ms. Kersey categorizes the stories to go with the different steps of the action plan for your life. I know this will be a book that I will read over and over again in my life. Do yourself a favor and read this one.

  • Excellent
    By A168HXJPJVPBU1 on 2001-08-17
This book is such a treasure. It isn't full of feel-good, self-stroking affirmation nonsense, it's full of real stories about people who beat the odds, overcame their fears, and dared their dreams. I promise you'll need a hankie for some of the stories you'll read here.

The author's self-promotion & ambitions for further "Unstoppable" stories geared towards teens, moms, oldsters, etc, is a little off-putting. While there's nothing wrong with tooting your own horn, there are more subtle ways to do it. I hope her other books in the forthcoming "Unstoppable" series are as uplifting as the first, but I envision a downward spiral of sentimental claptrap, such as were spawned by the original "Chicken Soup" book.

  • Motivational High Fi
    By A3AKWA5CWSKOOH on 2004-01-06
Amazing Motivational stories - Cynthia's Unstoppable changes the course of life. Cynthia Kersey writes that a prominent psychologist asked 3,000 people, "What have you to live for?" An amazing 94% answered by saying they had no purpose for their lives. Now when there isn't any central purpose, one easily can fall prey to fear, worries, trouble and self pity! Dark shadows hover over our lives. Her stories are inspiring, true and reminds of Pastor Bayless Conley's speech on Zee. The book is unstoppable reading and too motivational that makes one explore potentials within to go along life's way in a very practical manner without a stop. A good pick.

  • Encouraging and Empowering
    By A7CRP9YSUFWPC on 2005-05-20
What a fascinating book Cynthia Kersey wrote. I could not put it down. This book contains stories that are so inspirational and amazing about Real people that have overcome incredible obstacles and made their dreams a reality. These are people that believed all things possible, some of them famous and some of them not so well known, but all of them have an amazing story. Unbelievably several of them were children. I could not believe the difference even some children have made in this World. In a World where the Media is dominated by negative stories, and we are bombarded with negative images all day, We almost forget that there are amazing people that do amazing things everyday.Kersey reminds us that life is an adventure. She also has sections about herself and advice on how to create your own Unstoppable life. I would also recommend her Book Unstoppable Women for both women and men. She is truelly inspiring!!

  • Unstoppable? That's an understatement.

Don't hesitate. Buy this book today. Right now.

Before reading Unstoppable, I was struggling along the roads of entrepreneurial ambition. Five years later, I am not only a successfully published author, but also a friend and colleague of the author, Cynthia Kersey.

You see, after reading the book, I became determined to meet this amazing woman and work with her in some way. Well... I did it. Through blood, sweat, and tears, and after fives years of tireless work, I am pleased to report that I actually did it---I became friends with Cynthia Kersey. And just yesterday, she actually wrote the following positive blurb about my new book, "Battle Cries for the Underdog":

"Monroe Mann is a living example of an unstoppable spirit. Despite being sent to war in Iraq, he didn't let that deter him from his dreams. Monroe Mann inspires me and his book 'Battle Cries for the Underdog' will inspire you too!"

If you are on this page, and reading this review, it is obvious to me that you are the type of winner who will benefit from reading Cynthia Kersey's Unstoppable. It helped change my life; I know it will help change yours too.

Why are you still reading this review? You should have by now added the book to your shopping cart!

    Meet you at the top!

  • AWESOME

a person can go through life and not live or have direction this book gave me a sense of direction and excitement for life

  • Inspirational but Rehashed
    By on 1998-09-07
If you read books of this type you'll feel like you've been here before. The stories are great and will keep you going or get you going if you're stuck in a rut. It's a "Chicken Soup" "7 Habits" "Wishcraft" and Tony Robbins book all rolled into one. The problem is that the book excels in telling personal inspirational stories, and is OK at best in helping you define your own path. Overall it tries to do too much.

  • I wish there were more stories
    By ACUFRUFZZJ8ME on 2002-12-08
I also wish that I was given this book when I was much younger. I bought another copy and gave one to each of my daughters....so they can be unstoppable.

  • Very inspiring!
    By A1MXREGY8JZYPS on 2006-01-29
I enjoyed this book. I am most impressed by the people who persevered through it all. To them "can't" is the bugle call to charge. This is not a book to read if you are looking for excuses to set in front of the TV and ponder why you can't. It's a blow your excuses out of the water kind of book. I once read that people aren't afraid to fail but that they are afraid to win. We find it hard to live without excuses and accept the consequences of our decisions. These people aren't afraid to win they thrive on it. Winning and loosing is not really about striving with other people, it's about striving with yourself, taking the chance of failure or success. If in your heart you want to be more than a "Poser" then join the heroes in this book. It's a very inspiring read.
