Motivational ! By A33I2BC97M1M4G on 2000-05-16
I saw an add in Runners World for this book and sent away for it the same day! I had been searching for a motivational women's running book and had no luck finding one, until now! The advice and information provided pertains to both beginners and elite runners, and in my case someone who would like to get in better shape and become a faster runner. It helped to be reminded of just how beneficial running can be both physically as well as mentally. Just to name a few aspects of this book I enjoyed: it provided good advice on how to run and train smart, running programs I can follow without getting discouraged, who (if anyone) to train with, how to set and achieve goals, how to stay motivated and basically how to enjoy one of the easiest, cheapest and rewarding women's sports out there! Another one of my favorite aspects thoughout the book were the personal tips and stories the author provided, I can completely relate to some of her experiences and thoughts on running, both funny and serious. I think this book is a great tool for all women runner's to use and I hope other women can benefit from it as much as I have!
There is a runner in all of us, even YOU! By A1DRYQ7RKDC3WP on 2004-03-19
Although I had been working out for years, my stamina for running was just not there. I researched several running books, and this was by far the best. If you are a beginner, and need the basics, get this book. Age should not be a factor, but as advised-have a physical before you embark on running. I am physically fit, I had never ran, and I did not start until I was 41. There are women who write that they did not even begin until they were in their 60's! The program instructs on how to incorporate running into your workout, starting with as little as 2 minutes! You can do that right? It covers how to choose the right running shoe, how to avoid injury, and what you need to eat in order to maintain stamina for the long haul. Carb's are important here, take note. Dagny covers it all, and speaks from experience. She even covers overcoming the initial "embarassement" of running for the first time, and how to enter your first 5K and finish. I love this book, and still refer to it.
Terrific and complete guide By on 2000-07-21
This book contains various training programs to take you from novice to marathon runner. It examines many issues relating to running, from body image to proper nutrition to running while pregnant. It was well-organized and motivational. It is a great investment for any runner or would-be runner.
What a great motivator! By A7L2ACZT299UM on 2002-12-09
While training for my third marathon, I picked up this book to find some new training ideas. I couldn't put it down! It covers all facets of women's running - beginning to long distance, pregnancy, nutrition, balancing family and/or job with running and motivating factors. I used the charts, stretches and training ideas. I've recommended it to countless friends and often discussed ideas from the book while on long runs with training partners. Not only did I get some practical training advice, but I got a new resource for my running.
Runner's World Complete Book of Women's Running By on 2002-09-01
Scott's approach to running revitalized my running training. After picking up the book 9 months ago, I started running again, after having burnt out on training a couple of years ago. I continue to run and improve 9 months later, without injury or burnout. The practical advice in this book address not only the mechanics of running - but uses a global view of running affecting the body, mind and spirit. I especially like the journals and quotes from women runners who are of different ages and stages. Definitely recommend this book for women with an interest in beginning to run for the first time as well as women who have run but have stagnated in their progress.
- Disappointed
     By A125E92U9A8AUS on 2003-10-31
Personally, I was quite disappointed in the content of this book. I was getting back into running after a several year hiatus and bought this book to inspire me to a new level of fitness. I found the information to be geared towards the beginner and quickly "outgrew" it.
- informative and comprehensive
     By A3CFGCSIN9YIRX on 2001-12-10
this book caters to women runners which is great. the best part of the book is some information on joining running clubs for motivation and photos of stretching exercises.
- A good book for beginning runners, but a bit basic for intermediate runners
     By A3BG6LO4566WOR on 2008-04-08
I am by no means an advanced runner. I run a couple half marathons a year and I average a 9 min/mile pace. This book would have been great years ago when I first started running and training for 5K races. It covers the basics and has some nice pieces on clothing, gear and injuries. I found this book to be comprehensive, but lacking on depth on certain topics, expecially injuries. I think this is a great book for those who are just starting to run or considering their first 5K, 10K and half marathon. However, for those of us who already have miles under our belt and the blisters to prove it, this book may not provide any additional insight that we don't already know.
- Lots of information
     By A1G65ZZ5A7MM5A on 2006-11-06
I've just completed an 8 week beginning running program. I bought this book to read just before I embarked on the program. The book was an easy read; it has information that every beginning runner should know. I'll be keeping this book to refer to for years to come.
Here's what I found good about the book:-
1. Nuggets of information that I as a beginning runner won't have known to look for
2. Relevant to women and sometimes both sexes
3. Stories of real life women and how they got hooked on and what has kept them going - I found those inspirational
Here's what I didn't like about the book (therefore I'm giving it 4 stars):-
1. I understand that taking up running is good for you and all, helping you to maintain weight, good for your heart etc. but really, I feel that the authors sometimes go overboard with the accolades. As a beginning runner, I dont want to feel intimidated but at the same time, I dont want to feel as if I'm joining a cult.
All in all, I like the book and I'm keeping it but strangely enough, I feel uncomfortable reading about "us runners". I like to run but I also don't want to be part of an "elite group"

This book is really great for someone who is a beginner. It really has a lot of great tools and information from how to move from a walk to a jog, a jog to start running, and how to train your body to run a marathon.
- Great book! I would buy it through Amazon again.
     By AJB9UOOZNTWYN on 2006-03-10
I had a wonderful experience buying this fabulous book from Amazon. It arrived as promised and is definately the best book geared towards women for running. I have looked at a couple other books like this and they didn't even compare!
- Everything You Need To Know

One of the best books on running and issues unique to women. Would recommend for all levels of runners from beginner to advanced.
- Excellent resource for the beginning runner
     By A2ZCNNYB21VZUK on 2008-01-18
I am starting the Couch 2 5k program, but wanted to read something specific for women. This book is great for anyone who is thinking about running/wanting to get into running. I highly recommend it.
- A little disappointed!
     By A37NLN3YA33GRA on 2008-05-01
I was so looking forward to getting this book. And I was disappointed. It is ok but not quite "a complete book of running" I had taken about 9 months off of running due to pregnancy and was hoping to get motivated again. This book just kind of fell short. I think a "complete book of running" should include some routines, that could help all levels of runners (not just the marathoners that are mentioned) and more specific diet advice. More advice on building endurance etc etc. I think this caters to marathoners and just the novice beginners. I have seen better articles written in fitness magazines!
- wife loves it

my wife has begun running recently and says this is a great book. If she likes it im happy
- Stamina
     By A1RK1B683NS98A on 2008-03-15
I am presently training for a half marathon and was looking for a book to hone my skills and improve my technique. A fellow runner pointed out that I was not holding my arms properly and suggested reading this book to prevent further injury. I like the use of photos instead of drawings. I like the motivational writing.
- Attention women runners (and nonrunners)!
     By A4U55UL5MEXEP on 2008-06-24
This book is great for getting you off the couch and out into the running world! The author includes her own personal stories of her running adventures and makes you feel like you can do anything. And best of all, it's written by a woman for women: young and old, fat and skinny, runners and non-runners alike. I started with the beginning running program and I can already run 5 minutes at a time! That might not sound like a lot to most people, but I have asthma and I never thought it would be possible. I'm hoping to try my first 5k next year!
- Over rated
     By A2AXSZCOI5BMK3 on 2008-09-16
This is to much book for a lot of useless information. Most of the info is general info most people already know. Even if they haven't run before. I suggest you Pass on this one.
- The Perfect Motivational Guide
     By on 2000-07-25
I have been running for five years now, and there has always been many questions regarding the sport. I found that in the past, this has been primarily a man's sport. What a great idea to write a book focusing on the concern's of women. I felt more empowered and ready to lace up my shoes and go. This was truely a great motivational and informative book.
- Resourceful and Motivational
     By ATBZXHMC3FTG5 on 2008-02-27
This book has gotten me motivated to think about running in another marathon. I ran in one about 6 years ago and trained with a team. I love to run but have never been too serious about it. This book has good information for people who are getting back into it. I bought the book because I wanted the marathon training plan in it, but found it to be so much more than that. I wasn't planning on reading the book cover to cover at first, but overall it has kept me interested to do just that.
