  • Unintelligible

    By A1VB7POUN22EWS on 2006-10-21
Kingdom Hearts, which brings together characters from Squaresoft's Final Fantasy series and Disney's various cartoons, is probably one of the strangest and most ambitious projects in video game history. It's easy to see how Shiro Amano got the task of creating the manga adaptation; his renderings of both the Disney and Final Fantasy characters are flawless.

Amano's artistic abilities are the manga's only redeeming feature. The story revolves around a young boy, Sora, who finds himself (without explanation) the wielder of the powerful Keyblade, the only weapon capable of stopping an endless army of monsters known as Heartless. After some confusing adventures focusing on his relationship with two friends who receive no character development, Sora joins Donald Duck and Goofy, who are searching for the missing Mickey Mouse. Their dimension-hopping journey takes them through a variety of worlds based on Disney films and through endless battles with the Heartless and their Disney villain overlords, whose goals and motivations remain vague.

The convoluted plot is unintelligible and never receives enough elaboration to become coherent. The numerous action sequences, often featuring indecipherable pictures, only add to the confusion. Many of the events seem to have no internal logic. For example, in the Hercules subplot, we see the villain, Hades, lean on a sink to look at himself in the mirror. The sink cracks, and, somehow, Hades is either washed down a drain, flushed down a toilet, or maybe sucked into a space-time vortex. The only explanation for this odd chain of events is that Hercules had scrubbed the toilets earlier in the day. This, unfortunately, is characteristic of most of the manga's plot elements.

    Kingdom Hearts: Volume 4
    By: Shiro Amano

This is the final book in the storyline of the first Kingdom Hearts game. In this book the gang heads to Hollow Bastion to confront their greatest nemisis, Maleficient. However, she's not the one they should be worrying about. I won't go into details because I don't want to ruin it for anyone out there who's had no experience with the games, but this is a pretty good book and it does give some insight into what happened to Riku.

The thing that really bites with the series is that they totally miss my favorite world of them all Halloween Town. I was very anxious to see the encounter and drawings there, but was disappointed that it was left out, hopefully it'll be added in future mangas since Chain of Memories is now out, and I expect KHII to be made into a manga as well. I still give this a 10/10.

  • Best book series. EVER!

These books are amazing! It's a bit different than the video game, but it's still terrific! If your a fan of Final Fantasy, Disney, or both, you'll totally love it! The story starts with three friends named Sora, Riku, and Kairi, that all live on the Destiny Islands. They all are trying to find a way off the island to try and discover new worlds, when one night they get their wish. A storm hit the islands and now they are all sent to different worlds. Now Sora must fight with Donald Duck and Goofy to save the worlds, find Kairi, bring Riku back from the darkness, and find King Mickey. It's so awesome, you should buy it now!

  • No Bookmark or Poster?

    By A3OSZM9LFNF4CE on 2007-03-21
My son was very excited to get this set of books. However, the bookmark and poster that were promised in the ad didn't come with it. Very disappointing - Amazon is usually great about this stuff. I'm not returning it because I'd have to pry them from my son's hands...but sad, sad that they ripped off a child.

  • Kingdom Hearts
    By A14CHCAPK2NDYJ on 2007-01-14
The manga is quite in keep with the game, and I believe it is well worth taking a look at it, should one be a fan of the series. I am looking forward to the release of the second installment of Chain of Memories, as well as the KH2. The only con was that the battles were somewhat short (in compariason to the game).

  • Dude, if you like kingdom hearts buy this now!!!
    By on 2007-01-16
Dude, I got this for christmas, and it's heck of awsome! I love reading these books whenever I crave the sensation of reading manga. the books are fun although there are some nerdy jokes that you need to have played the game bafore. it has some elements of final fantasy, too. the only real problem i have with this book is that even though it's translated into english, the sound effects, such as when the rocket ship lifts off, are still in japenese. these books are great, the idea of mixing disney and final fantasy is weird, but also realy cool. BUY IT NOOOOW!!!

  • Kingdom Hearts ... what more do you want?
    By AZ0PUOR58HXUG on 2007-02-13
Ok firstly this comic book is based on the popular PS2 video game Kingdom Hearts, now that we got that out of the way, that's what it is. KINGDOM HEARTS, no more no less. I personally didn't find any extra cookies conserning the which I must admit is one of the reasons that I bought this comic. All in here can be found in Kingdom Hearts or in Kingdom Hearts II, from slightly more insight on the Ansem's Report is all I got out of this, but none the less a great experience once again. If you love the game and become an aficionado like myself a recomentdation is all I can give you get this manga.

Secondly this manga is preety childish, even excluding the fact that it is partly based on Disney stories, still pretty kiddy. Nicely said by the rating A for all ages. so if you are an aficionado of Kindom Hearts and didn't think that you are too manly for the game then you are not too manly for the manga trust me. KINGDOM HEARTS COMPACT TO FOR READING PLEASURE

  • Fun books for the child who likes Kingdom Hearts
    By A32FN9SG52ZE8Z on 2007-05-13
My kids were already big fans of Kingdom Hearts so these easy to read books were right up their alley. The books are comic book style so there are plenty of pictures for them to look at and keep them entertained.

  • Terrible adaptation
    By A1KJ19YOL8DVDP on 2006-08-15
The only good quality of this product is that it is cheaper than buying it separately. The manga interprets the first Kingdom Hearts terribly. It too fast paced, the art is terrible, and there is no character development. It's more of a quick summary of the game than an actual mange adaptation.
