Now in its fourth edition, The Little SAS Book is a classic, helping many people learn SAS programming. The book's friendly, easy-to-read style gently introduces readers to the most commonly used features of the SAS language. Topics include basic SAS concepts such as the DATA and PROC steps, inputting data, modifying and combining data sets, summarizing data, producing reports, and debugging SAS programs. This clear and concise format enables new users to get up and running quickly, while the examples allow readers to type in the program and see it work! New topics in the fourth edition include ODS Graphics for statistical procedures, PROC SGPLOT for graphics, creating new variables in PROC REPORT with a COMPUTE block, WHERE= data set option, SORTSEQ=LINGUISTIC option in PROC SORT, and more functions, including ANYALPHA, CAT, PROPCASE, and YRDIF.

This book is for beginners. By A1T9VGZEILY12S on 2009-12-28
I am a Ph.D. student who purchased the book for a statistics course. After all the great reviews I was hoping for much, much more from this book. It is written for beginners to both computer programming and SAS. If you have experience in either programming or SAS you will outgrow this book in a couple days. This book WAS useful for understanding the SAS programming language's syntax (which is both archaic and complex.) However, the book is written as a series of basic tutorials; as a result it makes a poor reference book. In hind sight, I would search for some online tutorials and skip this book.
Take a Look at the Reviews for Third Edition By A3OOH5IGWD1FVM on 2009-12-23
I support a fairly large SAS community in the private sector. I always recommend this book, but it isn't for everyone. I always recommend the most current version too. Maybe those reviewing this text at such a low level expected more detailed coverage. If you are a documentation junkie with considerable IT background, then go to the SAS site and read the documentation or purchase the course notes. The Little SAS Book is a series of short articles that hit all topics for a new SAS user. Many new SAS users have limited computing skills, e.g., Word and Excel, and our plunging into advanced statistics courses. The book is written in a folksy kind of style which might turn off some readers. If you have strong IT skills and now supporting statisticians that know SAS, then this book will aid in the conversation.
Outstanding Little Book By A1ZJJNUKCTPGQM on 2009-11-09
This book is amazingly useful for SAS beginners and professional alike. It gives you an easy understanding of programming in SAS. I will definately recommend this book as a first choice to anyone interested in SAS.
Annoyingly informal By ABZ1JQFDEM58F on 2009-09-09
At time the book can be insulting with its little anecdotes and informal writing, especially if you have programming experience.
All of this information is easily found online and easily learned through experimentation.
There all many other SAS books applied to certain subjects, search out one of those and you will be better off.
Not very useful By A2E8DZXZLDRYKP on 2009-11-12
I'm a SAS beginner and have read and ran the codes in the book almost cover to cover but not much to learn. I wonder why the previous edition got a very positive review. The following online source is 100 times better for beginners and intermediate users alike.
