Nikon D40 / D40x Laminated Field Reference Cardx$9.99
    (11 reviews)
Best Price: $9.99
The Nikon D40 / D40x has many controls and settings designed to allow you to make a perfect exposure. But remembering where they are and how the features work together can be daunting.
If you decide to carry the user manual in your bag but finding the answer to your question can be a frustrating experience. That is why Blue Crane Digital developed an abbreviated field reference guide to your digital SLR.
The inBrief reference card is a laminated, foldable guide that answers most camera operation questions quickly and easily. The information is arranged logically for ease of use.
The cover panel of each inBrief displays a labeled line drawing of the camera, and a color-coded index to the rest of the panels. For instance, if you have a question about white balance, just check the index, then turn to the purple panel. An overview of the information on each of the eight panels is listed below:
Cover: Annotated line drawing, General index Blue: Viewfinder, Control panel, and Monitor displays Red: Camera functions by exposure mode; Flash information Lime: Focus; Drive Modes; Self-timer Yellow: Exposure; Metering; Bracketing Purple: White balance; ISO; Image size/quality Orange: Displaying images; Resetting the camera Green: Custom settings
The inBrief reference card is professionally printed on 10 point card stock, and is laminated on each side for long wear and protection from the elements. When folded, the dimensions are 5.5 by 4.25 inches. It fits neatly into the outside pocket of your camera bag for instant access.
Once you have an inBrief, you can leave your manual at home.

This will go wherever my camera does By A197T2N6RU7K56 on 2007-11-02
I've only had this laminated reference card for a few days, but in that short time it's proven to be very helpful. I have an excellent book about my camera - Nikon D40/D40x Digital Field Guide - which is easy enough to put into the car with me. But this little fold-out card literally fits into the smaller, fitted bag in which I like to carry my D40x whenever possible. Because it's right there at the moment I'm taking pictures, it's been invaluable as I learn how to use my first digital SLR camera. Just one example: its chart with thumbnail statements of what each flash setting means.
I suppose that if I'm very smart and very lucky, someday I might know so much that I won't need to consult either my "Field Guide" book or this reference card. But until then, this card goes wherever the camera does.
Nifty Little Guide By A2K1SYA36OGMYE on 2007-10-24
My eyes are too old to really read this well in the field, but from what I've seen of it, it looks spectacular and I've reviewed it often before heading out to take photos. A must for anyone's camera bag.
Pretty good product By A61Z4M6N9VVND on 2007-11-21
Contains a lot of readily useful information, but not as I as much I had imagined.
Reference Card By A3KZJVEDBT9B4E on 2007-12-29
Isn't as informative as I had hoped. I think for the price it should have more info in it.
Good quick reference By A3R7CJ5V0CI0B6 on 2008-02-18
This is a good quick reference that I carry in my bag - it takes less room than a book and has the basic information that I sometimes need to be reminded of. I've used it a few times - it comes in handy.
I do wish that the lcd monitor shown on the card was the "classic" format rather than the "graphic" format.
All in all, this is an item that you would miss if you didn't have it.

This is a great item to carry in your camera bag. It won't disintegrate from wear or water, yet is handy when you need some instant information. It also saves me carrying the how to book in my luggage when traveling.

This baby is HUGE. It provides all the right information for taking your best shots without the work of remembering what elements you need. Everything you need are in the compact pages of this card set.
- Just enough info
     By A38WXWWXZ4TLD8 on 2008-09-01
I purchased this reference card for my wife. She recently accuired a Nikon D40 and I thought this would be a nice little reference "manual" to keep with the camera. It covers all of the most used features pretty well, and is arranged for quick access. The price was right.
