Ash and his friends discover a spa for wounded Pokemon that is guarded by a brave Bulbasaur. Can Ash and Bulbasaur protect the spa from Team Rocket's evil plans? Ash finds an abandoned Charmander and both of them learn a lesson in loyalty. Finally, Ash runs into a gang of delinquent Squirtle that have united with Team Rocket to cause trouble... Will Team Rocket ever go straight?

Want to get at the heart of the Pokémon craze? Fast-forward to the end of this video to see the video exclusive PokéRap, a music video that lists all 151 collectable Pokémon. That's right: 151 creatures to collect. Think of them as the starting lineup of all the NBA teams. Instead of knowing a player's stats, Pokémon fans have to memorize creature types and a Pokémon's certain strength.

This video contains three episodes from the animated Pokémon TV series. Our intrepid heroes Ash and his friends continue their quest, collecting Pokémon along the way. In "Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village," the heroes stumble on to a Pokémon health spa where injured Pokémon creatures can take in a little R&R. The courageous Bulbasaur that defends the spa does not take kindly to Ash's desire to be his trainer (and keep him in his Pokéball storage container). "Charmander--The Stray Pokémon" finds the cute title character abandoned on a rock awaiting a new owner. The poor critter will die if his tail light ever goes out. What will he do in the upcoming thunderstorm? The title characters in "Here Comes the Squirtle Squad" are water-spouting beasts with Jack Nicholson sunglasses and a one-word vocabulary ("squirtle, squirtle" is heard in a dozen different variations). Of course, Team Rocket is there to foil our heroes and steal Ash's valuable Pikachu. --Doug Thomas UPC: 013023023130

It's pretty good, for you people don't already record them on tape (I recorded mine), it seems like most of you haven't really seen the t.v series. I've seen it and recorded every single episode and for you people who are thinking to buy this video, it's great, you'll love it. Ash first goes to this place where a girl name Melanie helps sick or injured Pokemon, though she is not qualified for a doctor though, and she has a Bulbasaur who protects the Pokemon from people who wants to capture Pokemon there. Of course later Ash gets Bulbasaur. The next episode, Ash and his friends see a Charmander on a rock waiting for its trainer to come back and get it. Although its trainer is a jerk, left it there and wasn't coming back to get it. Brock, Ash, Misty are concerned about Charmander, after they found out that the trainer wasn't going to get it back they went to go get it, it was very weak. Later Charmander saves Pikachu and then it decides to stay with Ash since its trainer wasn't going to get him. Then Squirtle squad, I liked that the best, it was really funny. There's a squirtle squad who comes and digs a hole and Ash and the gang falls they play tricks on everybody because they were abandoned by their trainers. I'm too tired to put any more spoilers, but if you're wondering what happens next, support the company and buy the video, it is very good.

  • It's the greatest!

This is da perfect history, I said it 'cause I can't live witthout it! I love Pikachu, Ash, Misty, Brook, Charmander, uff, they are cute little monsters... I'd like to say I love them... you should see it... With this I cry (specially in the first chapter), I laugh, I can do anything... I love it!

  • I popped the video in my VCR, and promptly threw up...

I think Pokemon is a threat to society and should be stopped. I use to watch it to, in the morning before school at 6:00 am on the Fox channel, it was a nice little show to check back on now and again while packing my bookbag, I knew of this show before it ever got as much hype as it does now...but now where ever you go, you see little 5 year olds screaming "Pika, Pika" and "Char, Charmander", and they probably don't even know its Japan...and how these videos are dubbed, blech, terrible use of words, making them say "Macerena" and "Blastoise is DA BOMB"....PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY!

  • It's a great video!

I really wanted to be the very best, this poke-cool video helped me reach my dreams. I really love ash. He's such a hottie! He is my #1 ultimate role-model. Squirttle is my favorite. I wish I could squirt water out of my mouth like he does.

  • A must have for fans... passable for anyone else.
    By on 2000-01-12
This video was good, but only in the sense that Pokemon is good in general. As far as plot was concerned, there's some of that missing here. There were some gaping holes in at least one of the episodes on this tape...

But, for a Pokemon fan this tape is a definate "must have" It details Ash's aquisition of Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander and more or less completes the setup for the remainder of the series.

  • "Don't be suprised if your kids won't stop talking about it"

My son has watched it four times a day, and he likes to collect Pokémon cards. He doesn't want to be bothered while he watches it, so it gives me time to do what I want. I asked to watch it with him the first night he got it, and I'd have to say it really has something that makes it special to him. I know he'd rather be watching Pokémon than be in school, so when he gets home he has to watch it. Pretty good, but its really for a six to ten audience.

  • This is the best Pokemon Movie ever!
    By A3G44HT4IDEC4E on 2001-10-14
I really like this video.Ash ends up catching all the starting Pokemon that he could have gotten from Prof. Oak. In Bulbasaurs hidden village Team Rocket attemps to steal Pokemon from a place for pokemon to recover in the forest. In Charmander:The Stray Pokemon Ash and his freinds have to save a abandoned Charmander. In here comes the squirtle squad Team Rocket has convinced a gang of squirtles to help them but Ash,Misty, and Brock manage to convince them that Team Rocket are the bad ones.

It's even better on DVD - Image and sound Is so clear. I mean whoa, I own some of the pokemon videos and the picture and sound are OK but this is a must have for fans who want to get the full feel of Pokemon. Others for the money you pay its just not worth it.

  • A great show for all ages, that the whole family will enjoy
    By on 1999-06-04
The show Pokemon is a great show that has adventure and excitement. This is one of the best children shows on tv today. I think the video is very appropiate for all ages. And the Pokemon are really cool. I think that Ash, Misty, and Brock are great characters for the video. And I think that the little electric engineer Pikachu is great. Along with his 150 friends from Bulbasaur, to Charmander, to the little turtle Squirtle.

  • Pokemon Rules!

If you are a total Pokemaniac, you have got to get this video. Now, you can watch it on a video instead of waiting for it to come on TV, whenever you like! Even if you tape it, it's not as good because you don't have to fast-foward during commercials, the picture's clearer, and it has a full length Poke` rap! I'm gonna get 'im all!

  • The absolute greatest thing known to man.

If you are into cute heart warming friends with a story to boot, you have found it. Word of warning, once you have caught the pokemon fever, you are hooked. Pokemon: Got to catch em' all!!!

  • Pokefriends is my 4 year olds favorite pokemon movie.
    By A143GV17DKM6UT on 2000-08-31
Good movie. A 13 year old may find it a bit dull because noone is "saving the world" but I like the movie because it actually teaches a few things about kindness and consideration for others. The movie also shows some of the history of Ash and his pokemon which is essential for understanding some of the idiosyncrysies of charmander. I highly recommend!

  • The plot progresses in an odd way. Still good though.

So, our "hero" Ash got lost on his ay to the 3rd gym.Doesn't really surpise me.. Anyway, after stumbling through a bunch of traps, he finds the Hidden Village (TM), a spa for abandoned pokemon. It's protected by a Bulbasaur since pokemon thieves would certainly like to catch all these injured pokemon. Of course Jessie and James show up, and Ash decides to help Bulbasaur to beat them. Melanie, Bulbasaur's trainer, asks Ash to take Bulbasaur along on his journey so he can grow stronger. So there we have another pokemon.
Later, the group finds a Charmander on a rock in the woods. It's waiting for it's trainer, so Ash can't really catch it. A bit later, at the pokemon center, he overhears Damian, Charmander's trainer, brag about how he abandoned his pokemon. After Brock beats up Damian, Ash and the others save the pokemon. The next morning, Charmander is gone again, but it returns to save Ash and Pikachu from Jessie and James, who have appearantly used their heads for a change, and donned electric-proof suits. They weren't fireproof though. Damian returns and want Charmander back, but Charmander burns him and goes with Ash instead.
Even later, the group meets a gang of Squirtles who are terrorizing a nearby town. After teaming up with Meowth, they kidnap Ash and the others so Jessie and James can get Pikachu. Jessie has other plans, and decides to bomb the Squirtle Squad to death with a lot of bombs dropped from their balloon. Meanwhile, Ash tries to save Pikachu by getting a Super Potion, but is knocked out by Gary. When he returns, Jessie and James have started their attack. Ash saves the leader Squirtle when he breaks his leg in the battlefield (and is unable to run from the bombs) and together they destroy the balloon and puut out the fire. The Squirtle leader decides to go with Ash.

Well, certainly a decent batch of episodes, even though it seems a bit silly that Ash catches all three starter pokemon at once. But if he didn't, I'm sure we would've gotten a bunch of crappy filler between these episodes, so it's okay. But he really should get to the 3rd gym soon. In the Charmander episode it appears he's headed North of Cerulean, which means he's been walking in a circle for 3 episodes. Hm.

I have to disagree with "Pikachu"'s comment though, about how this video whups the show.

This was a great video for Pokemon fans. It has a good plot and no "filler" episodes. This is for any fanatic for Poket Monsters.

  • This was good. Ash got all of the starter pokemon.
    By on 1999-05-14
Ash got all of the beggining Pokemon. He even got a Squirtle, the one he origanlly wanted.

  • This video is just like the rest..... Excellent!
    By on 1999-05-20
I think it is so cute how Ash catches the three starting Pokemon, including Squirtle the pokemon he first wanted.

  • Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, I choose you!
    By on 1999-05-24
These three might be the best episodes ever. I love it when Charmander and Pikachu zap and singe that Australian kid with thier attacks.

  • I think that Pokemon is a good tv show. I like to watch it.
    By on 1999-06-04
Pokemon is the best cartoon I've seen in a long time. Pokemon you can watch in the morning and in the afternoon after school. Pokemon is a great show for all ages and it is a family event. I like Pokemon and it is great. I bought all the videos and I think there great and I like Pikachu.

I realy liked how Charmander and Squirtle joined Ash by choice and how Bulbasaur, as stubbern as Ash, put up a fight.

  • It is great
    By on 1999-06-17
In these three episodes Ash catches squirtle, the pokemon he originally wanted, and bulbasaur, and charmander. The episodes are really cool.

  • I like the part when Ash gets charmander.
    By AAM8515FE2SOC on 1999-07-10
In Pokefreinds the best part for me was when Ash gets charmander, because charmander is my favorite pokemon, oh one more thing I liked it becuase when charmander resues pikachu from team rocket the move that charmander did was so cool, it was so cool because charmander did flamethrower and charmander has to be at a high level to do that kind of move.

  • the only thing missing was a primeape
    By A3E9TYBMSWYXN9 on 1999-07-18
I enjoyed these three episodes the most out of all the videos. The only problem with it was there were no not very well known pokemon on it which will not help young pokemon trainers (I know as I have all 150 pokémon). My favorite pokemon is primeape and ash was a fool to give him away.

  • It was great
    By on 1999-07-29
It was great all the way through

  • i like it
