Night Moves

Bob Seger has racked up a lot of worthy tracks over the years, but it took until 1994 for a greatest hits package to appear. Voilà. The bad news: We're missing an awful lot of songs here. Night Moves is Seger's crit-pick album, and a great place to start if you don't have any Seger at all. Next in the rankings is Stranger in Town. Otherwise, his highs are pretty scattered, which would make any best-of package a worthy investment. But if you want to get comprehensive, "Rock & Roll Never Forgets," "Fire Down Below," "Horizontal Bop," "Her Strut," "Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight," and "Katmandu" aren't on this CD--and you'll have to go to the original albums to secure them. --Gavin McNett MPN: 30334 - UPC: 724383033423

  • Great stuff, but not the best

    By AGB299ZIOSC2O on 2001-05-09
Like any "Greatest Hits" album, this CD suffers from a mysterious lack of some of Seger's best work. Where's "Let It Rock," for example, or "Beautiful Loser," "Fire Lake," "Nine Tonight," etc. I know there's a limited amount of space available on any one CD for such a prolific artist, but I'd still rather have seen some of these songs than what ended up on this collection. That's not to say most of it isn't good; "The Fire Inside" is firmly established as my favorite Bob Seger song ever: a driving beat, a catchy melodic line and the typically introspective lyrics that are the reason Bob Seger is truly a rock legend. A string of classic songs occurs with "Hollywood Nights," "Still The Same," and "Mainstreet," but while the use of "Roll Me Away" and "Turn The Page" near the beginning isn't bad, it still seems like there are better songs that could have been put there. Of the two previously unreleased songs, "C'est La Vie" is the standout; even though it was originally a Chuck Berry number, Seger and the Silver Bullet band do a wonderful job with it. "In Your Time" is less noteworthy, and seems to be there mainly to underscore the fact that this album is dedicated to the children of the band members. Awww. Overall, this CD doesn't really seem representative of Seger's "typical" style to me. But it still contains a wealth of good, old-fashioned rock (since it's my opinion that Seger never wrote a bad song), and it's a wise investment.

  • Mediocre offering.....I'm holding out for something better

    By A1BVCH82W0M2W2 on 2004-09-07
This 1994 compilation from Capitol is really a misnomer. It contains only 9 of Segers charted singles. There's a lot of stuff missing that Capitol cleverly issued on "Greatest Hits Vol. 2". But it's a new day baby. Most major record companies are issuing "Ultimate Collections" of their most successful and prolific artists. It is high time that Capitol issued just such a disc for Bob Seger.
There is certainly no problem with the music on "Greatest Hits".
Not a bad track in the bunch. Several of Bob's biggest hits are here including his 1976 classic "Night Moves", "Still The Same" and "Against The Wind". You'll also find "Old Time Rock and Roll" and an outstanding remake of the Chuck Berry tune "C'est La Vie". But one cannot help but come away feeling cheated by this collection. The included booklet is OK but nothing special and contains little in the way of biographical information. The remastering job is fine but again at this stage of the game there is really nothing here to recommend this collection.
I suspect that Capitol will correct this oversight in the near future and issue a more impressive 20 track overview of Seger's entire career. In the meantime, I'll simply play my old '45s!

  • Bob Seger's music is great

    By A2QRB6L1MCJ53G on 2000-02-02
I originally bought this cd because I loved the song, "Against The Wind." I didn't even know that Bob Seger sung all of these other great songs that I also liked such as, "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "Still The Same." After I listened to the whole cd, I realized why I had always heard a lot of people talk about how good Bob Seger was. There's not any bad songs on this album, most of them are great. "Night Moves" and "Like A Rock" became two more of my favorite classic songs.

I recommend any true rock fan to get this album. Hopefully, Bob Seger has a Greatest Hits Vol. 2 in mind for one of these days.

  • Good start, but it should have been a 2 CD set

    By A33TRNCQK4IUO7 on 2003-11-01
Over the past 2 decades, Bob Seger has put out some of the best mainstream rock and roll and this release gives a good sample of that. Most greatest hits collections tend to either overlook key songs when dealing with successful artists, or give you a bunch of filler when the record company has the audacity to put out a 1 or 2 hit wonder "greatest hits" release.

Obviously when dealing with Bob Seger, there are just too many great songs, but these release overlooked too many especially when there were over 20 minutes left blank that could have filled with "Rock and Roll Never Forgets," "Katmandu," "Shame on the Moon," or any of his amazing early records; notwithstanding what is here is good and there is absolutely no filler. This 1994 release includes a new song that is really good as well as a very cool version of Chuck Berry's "C'est La Vie"

Capitol Records is attempting to correct this wrong by releasing a second greatest hits volume on 11/4/2003. The good news that that this release will include overlooked songs as well as newer material, including two new songs.

But back to thsi release... The songs will take you back to a time when music and life was so different. Listening great songs like "Against The Wind", "Night Moves", and "Mainstreet" (which I am lstening to right now) is a pleasure that I had not enjoyed in a long time as I am now revisiting all my CDs as I had gone overboard trying to buy new stuff and most of it fails to impress as those of yesteryear.

I do wish that Capitol Records had released a remastered version of this release as it did with many others in the Bob Seger catologue as there are some incredible songs that deserve to be heard more clearly. I hope that the second volume is remastered, but it does not seem that it will. I'll still buy it and I will have most of the MUST HAVE's in Bob Seger's great career. He really needs to get back in the game as he's been in the sidelines too long. Enjoy this release but just make sure that if you buy it you know that some of your favorites are not included.

  • Not thorough by any means

    By A3SG2M19I4F9WQ on 2002-11-23
Artists of this magnitude, Springsteen, Seger, and Petty have extensive bodies of work. Logically, their greatest hits compilations should be given 2 discs for starters. But that's not the case.

Bob Seger's greatest hits is missing out on so much great stuff, it's almost doing him a disservice. The track sequencing is not in Chronological order, so you get the bizarre effect of bouncing from 1976's "Mainstreet" to fifteen years later, 1991's "The fire inside".

Lesser numbers like "You'll accomp'ny me" should have been left off.

There's the glaring absence of classic rock staples "Beautiful loser", "Katmandu", and "Rock and roll never forgets", in addition to strong album cuts like "Shame on the moon", "Fire lake", and "Betty Lou". Also missing in action is his BIGGEST, and only number 1 hit "Shakedown".

If you're new to Bob Seger, this isn't the place to start, I'd recommend acquiring Night Moves instead.

  • Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - 'Greatest Hits' (Capitol)
    By A2WQY1B8ZS7QRZ on 2007-01-17
Review number 140.Fourteen track, more or less a 'best of' compilation. Sure, there are such '70's album rock goods here like "Night Moves", the much over-played (but worthy)"Turn The Page", the rocking "Hollywood Nights", "Against The Wind", "Mainstreet" (my second personel Seger favorite)among others. Guess what you really need to do,is also purchase a copy of Seger's 'Greatest Hits, Vol.2' as a companion CD (sort to speak). My sole regret is that Bob Seger was just in my hometown and I didn't catch his concert. Too bad.

  • Woke up Last Night to the Sound of Thunder...
    By A2VMVTDYQDA6L8 on 2007-10-28
...How far off, I sat and wondered... Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves?

As a child of the 60s already feeling out of place in the late 70s, those lines pierced me to the heart. How many nights as a teenager full of angst did I listen to the sound of thunder and count off the seconds trying to determine when the storm would arrive? Because, of course, when the rain would come, I could sleep like a child again.

Yeah, Bob Seger grabbed me when that song came out in 1976 and I've been a fan ever since. You could even say that his songs are cliches of my life: Like a Rock, We've Got Tonight, Still the Same, Against the Wind, Rock and Roll Never Forgets and so on.

This little collection is great and everybody ought to have it. Sure, it could have more cuts, but for what it is, it is really worth the money. I've worn out two copies already and am on the third one! Best part is, even my grown children and my classics loving husband like Bob Seger!

I still wake up to the sound of Thunder... and hum Bob Seger's "Night Moves"!

  • Merely a taste of Bob's greatness
    By A2EENLV6OQ3DYM on 2000-08-02
"Bob Seger's Greatest Hits" is a woefully inadequate anthology from an artist who desrves much more consideration (two discs, at least and maybe a box set). Don't get me wrong, the twelve Seger classics here are all great songs and form the staple of what you're likely to hear from Seger on classic rock radio stations. But that ignores the fact that Seger's early career, which featured such great songs as "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man," "Katmandu," "Get Out of Denver" and "Beautiful Loser" is ignored completely. Some day, perhaps Bob Seger will get the kind of anthology treatment that his great career so richly deserves.

  • Seger's finest hard-driving rock collection ever!
    By A303CQQ7MDTL32 on 2000-03-19
For over 20 years, Bob Seger has been one of the best mainstream rock'n'rollers in America, developing a distinctive body of honest, hard-rocking songs. More songs that can be put on this single-disc set, unfortunately. While many of Seger's trademarks are here like "Turn The Page", "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "Night Moves". There is no "Rock & Roll Never Forgets", "Katmandu", "Shame On The Moon", or any of his pulverizing early records, when he was as tough as fellow Michigan rockers MC5, Grand Funk Railroad and the Stooges. Nevertheless, what is here is fine and contains enough first-rate material to satisfy most music fans!

  • We want volume two!
    By A24JJCNEEP2MT4 on 1999-10-06
When was the last time one-time rockers such as Eric Clapton or Rod Stewart had a hit with a beat? These days it's one mid-tempo mushy song after the next. That may be why Bob Seger emphasized the ballad side of his hits on GREATEST HITS. His softer songs probably get a lot more airplay than his room-rattlers on today's tame, lame radio. Overall this hits collection ain't a bad start, but old-timers like me miss so many songs from Seger's '70s-'80s heyday, some of which are mentioned in Amazon's lead review. C'mon, Bob, show 'em how you can rock - and complete the job - with a Volume Two!

  • Great Songs, But Some Missing
    By AQCHVXD1R9WYI on 2001-08-31
This CD presents a quandary. Do you rate a greatest hits collection based on the quality of the songs on the CD, or on the completeness of the collection? Based on the quality of the CDs, this is a 5 star CD. However, the notable missing songs make this a 3 star compilation. Therefore, I have averaged the songs for 4 star overall rating.
In the Detroit area, Seger is viewed as something just short of a deity. Therefore, any Detroit review of his work is jaded. I can't get enough of his music. If you want to hear Seger at his finest, get a live CD, "Live Bullet", or even "Nine Tonight".
Unfortunately, there are many great songs missing from this collection: "Rock & Roll Never Forgets", "Katmandu", "Travelin' Man", "Beautiful Loser", "Nutbush City Limits", and "Get Out of Denver" are just examples. However, as greatest hits collections go, there are perhaps too many Seger hits for one CD.
Overall, this CD has great songs, with some omissions.

  • I Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
    By AEKJ8G550YYW2 on 2004-12-21
That phrase tells all you need to know about Seger. His songs make you think. A lot of his songs have a strong message. He talks about American life, and American lives. He writes about life. Sometimes you like it some times you don't. Just live with it. This has a decent collection of some of Seger's best songs.

Roll Me Away - Tells the story of a trucker who finds love on the highway and the highs and lows of that love.

Night Moves - Teenage angst at it's best. Story of kids who are looking for love where ever they can find it.

Turn The Page - All American quintessential story of life on the road for a band. Finding people who talk about ya, not sure of what it is, just glad to be back on the road. After concert jitters with the sounds still pounding you long after it's over. (one of my favorite all time songs.)

You'll Accomp'ny Me - The risks of love and commitment. How love can be or can't but if you have confidence.

Hollywood Nights - Loosing your innocence to a beautiful woman. Loosing your innocence to the stars and fame of Hollywood.

Still The Same - How no matter what you do, how you do it, things will, by and large always remain the same no matter what. Wear any mask, act any way, you're still the same person that you were before you changed.

Old Time Rock & Roll - Lamenting on the loss of Rock to modern music. Doesn't happen to have the same heart. One of the most requested songs ever on jukeboxes.

We've Got Tonight - We may not be here tomorow, or next week, so We've Got Tonight. Let's just forget the future and stay together for tonight only.

Against The Wind - How we're always fighting life with every choice that we make. No matter what we do we are always up against it. The phrase "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't now then!" is still one of my favorite all time lyrics.

The Fire Inside - The passion and love that makes us do what we do and act like we act. Yet another of Segers greats that I think most of us can relate to in one way or another.

Like A Rock - Surviving life no matter what comes up. Being there when you are needed. Knowing that the choices you made were the hard ones.

C'est La Vie - An old Chuck Berry hit. Young love, and the hardships involved.

In Your Time - A new song dedicated to his young son Cole.

There are many songs on this album that everyone of us can relate to. I've loved Seger for a quarter century and will love him till I die. He writes songs that seriously move you. That's rare.

  • The Real Poet of the Working Man
    By A192KEPM0HW6AC on 2007-10-11
I got this CD as a gift a couple years ago, and I was shocked at how timeless these recordings are. They really hold up well! Sure, I know, aficianados are upset at the lack of their favorite hits, but for newbees and fans like me coming back into the fold, this is a great place to start. Die hards are going to buy all the other albums anyhow. I mean, my favorite song, "Katmandu," isn't on here, but so what: So many other great tunes ARE.

This album could be called "Old Time Rock & Roll," because that's what Seger is: His songs are bluesy without trying to be blues; they're boogie-woogie without overdoing it on the piano. They're very straightfoward and honest. They are simply themselves, not putting on pretentious airs, *trying* to be something they're not.

I have no idea what rung on the economic ladder Seger came from, because he never makes a big deal about it. But, to me, these are the real songs of the working class, because that's what I heard growing up, in biker bars, American Legion halls, in trailer parks and on jukeboxes in pizzerias in the Heartland. Seger is the real article. He doesn't have to tell you every five seconds about what a working class hero he is, like Bruce Springsteen and John Cougar Mellencamp, because Seger sounds like a guy who truly believes in his music. He's not trying to be an "everyman," because he so thoroughly sounds like his *own man.* Listen to "Against the Wind," and tell me I'm wrong.

I haven't heard anything new from Seger in a while, but maybe that's because he probably got enough royalties from Chevrolet using "Like a Rock" for a solid DECADE in its truck commercials.

That's longevity. If Seger were some passing fad, it wouldn't have lasted a month.

  • Sure it could've been two, but so what?
    By A1L0HZI35HF8OF on 2000-04-28
Bottom line: this is a great album. Seger certainly has enough classic rock hits to have easily filled a second disc, but it is hard to argue with these choices. God knows that Chevy has made banal that otherwise seminal song "Like A Rock" (reason enough NEVER to buy a Chevy truck), but "Turn The Page", Hollywood Nights", of course the phenominal "Night Moves" and the rest make this a must have.

Unlike another reviewer, I was delighted to hear "In Your Time", which according to the liner notes, is a tribute to his young son. It is a great birthday gift, and wonderful of Seger to share it with his fans.

You sure won't go wrong with this choice.

  • I never understood why this guy is popular.
    By A3UAOZNKNF824W on 2001-05-26
I never understood why this guy is popular. His music is so.....mediocre, and that's being complimentary. I wish I had a zero star option for my rating, one is too generous. Every time "Old Time Rock and Roll" comes on the radio, I turn the dial. I believe Chuck Berry recorded a far superior verson of that a few decades ago, but he called it "Rock and Roll Music".

  • Rock and Roll NEVER Forgets?
    By A21WRVOFX72LX8 on 2002-01-31
Well, this lame compilation does. I can't believe that Capitol Records would call this Bob's "Greatest Hits". It is like the record company has the rest of his hits on a two- or maybe even three-disc set somewhere in a vault, keeping this "Greatest Hits" disc as highlights. Sure, "Turn the Page", "You'll Accompn'y Me" "Like a Rock", and "Old Time Rock and Roll" are good hits to have on the disc, but what about "Nine Tonight", "Get Out of Denver", "Katmandu", Rock and Roll Never Forgets", "Shame On The Moon", American Storm", and even his top ten SMASH, "Shakedown"? Who picked the material to go on this album? In my opinion, I really believe the artist had little say on the decision. If so, Bob must have been not wanting to please his fans too much, because the material is NOT his greatest hits. Maybe this disc should be renamed to "Some of Bob's Hits". Save your money!

  • Needs a Volume 2!
    By A1EYSN1T55SV7U on 2002-02-17
I agree with the reviewer from Michigan who rates this 5 stars for the songs here but 3 stars for the songs missing. Clearly, you can't go wrong with the songs from this all-time American rock and roll legend. All songs are legendary and well-known. Clearly, the focus is on the slower hits, and songs like "We've Got Tonight" and "Against The Wind" are clearly as good as it gets. Obviously, staples like "Night Moves" and "Old Time Rock & Roll" are classics to this day--as are most of the songs here. "Turn The Page"...hello!

I would like to propose a second greatest hits album to cover so many of Bob's legendary hits that are missing here. For starters, I would like to see the movie songs "Understanding" and the # 1 "Shakedown" included, as they aren't anywhere else besides their respective sound tracks. As for other album songs, I'd like to see most if not all of the following: "Katmandu" (live version), "Travellin' Man", "Beautiful Loser", "Rock And Roll Never Forgets", "The Fire Down Below", "Feel Like A Number", "The Horizontal Bop", "Her Strut", "Fire Lake", "Let It Rock", "Even Now", "Shame On The Moon", "American Storm", and maybe even "The Real Love" and "Lock And Load" off of his two '90's albums of all new material. Does anybody else think this would be a great idea?

Clearly this man is a legend whose music is among the most real and heartfelt I have ever heard. If you are a fan of his music and yet don't own a lot of his albums, this is clearly a more-than-respectable place to start.

  • All-American classics
    By A423XLYS1Q1D6 on 2002-11-16
This is one of those rare "best of" albums that actually contains more than one or two hits. Nearly everything on here, from the legendary "Night Moves" to the bittersweet "Against the Wind" and the anthemic "Like a Rock" (which still packs a punch, despite being overexposed by a certain auto company) ranks as a genuine rock classic. Look over the tracks and ask yourself: How many of these have I heard on the radio? I guarantee, if you have even a passing familiarity with rock radio, then you've heard most of these played at some time. Unlike some songs, which show their age within a few years, these are timeless, memorable tunes that that effectively blend the best elements of American music--some rockabilly, a little country-western, a touch of folk sensibility, and working-class rock n' roll stylings backed by first-rate performances and Seger's dynamic vocal work--rough and tough one moment, sentimental and contemplative the next. True, there are a few Seger classics missing from this set--"Rock n Roll Never Forgets," Nine Tonight," "Beautiful Loser," "Katmandu," and the underrated "Living Inside my Heart" from the "About Last Night" soundtrack--but this is still a great disc full of great songs. Hopefully, we will someday see a fully comprehensive set of Seger's work. Until then, this will do just fine. VERY highly recommended.

  • Awesome CD!
    By A11617B1NW474D on 2007-03-31
There is NOT one bad song on this CD. I enjoy all the songs on the CD. In fact, my mom loves this CD and had me buy a copy for her several years ago.

  • Great Compilation Of Bob Seger's Best Work!
    By ALR35EFI69S5R on 2002-07-20
This collection of Bob Seger's greatest hits has been along time in the making, and fans anticipated it for years before it finally arrived a few years ago. While he has always dwelled in a fairly narrow artistic range, and many of his songs have a quite similar feel to them, there is no doubt that he made quite a dent in the record industry in the two decades he prowled the charts. I remember first hearing his rendition of "Main Street" as a graduate student at Ohio State University in the mid 1970s. He had a plaintive and urgent sound to his songs that always made me sit up to listen to what he had to say. Of course, it turned out he had much to tell us, and proceeded to do so with a whole range of chart-busters.

It all appears to be here, at least most of what it is we want to carry with us on down the road. From his initial break-through song of "Roll Me Away" to the final refrains of "In Your Time", this is a fine collection of his hits. From "Night Moves" to "Turn The Page", both of which continue to dominate the late-night oldies stations, from "You'll Accompany Me" to "Hollywood Nights", all of this has an autobiographical feel that Seger admits is the case. From "Still the Same" to "Old Time Rock And Roll" to "We've Got Tonight" to "Against The Wind", all of this is a celebration of working stiffs in the heartland of America, of ordinary people caught in the traffic of lives intertwining with others. My favorites here are "Mainstreet", "The Fire Inside", and "Like A Rock", even if it is now used by an auto-maker to advertise their trucks. I remember the song when it actually meant something. This is a great album summarizing a memorable career by a gifted singer and songwriter. Enjoy!

  • Neither the greatest nor the hits
    By A12I9G6JQ6IW2V on 2004-02-25
Bob Seger and the various permutations of his accompanying band had their music on the current radio playlists for nearly a four-decade span. Anyone listening to top-40 radio during those years knows something about Seger's music and doesn't need a review of his material to be persuaded to buy or not buy any of his reissued music today. This review then, and the rating given, is a commentary on how, with over 30 charting singles to his credit, Seger's music gets condensed down to a greatest hits collection. Not really well, in this case. First off, this compilation, with a measly 14 tracks is just plain stingy. Secondly, the term "greatest hits" is pretty simple, "greatest" being pretty obvious in its inference and "hits" being just that, ie., songs that made significant progress on the music charts. More than half of Seger's top-ten hits are not here so "greatest" is a farce. A third of these tracks were not hits at all so, so much for "hits". And, as an aside, this reviewer has an issue with these "coattail" tracks that labels stick onto compilation CD's especially at the expense of their established music. Add a "bonus" track if you must but don't omit the real stuff in the process, please. Basically, this is a really lame excuse for a "greatest hits" album and a pretty poor acknowledgement of Seger's musical history. If you must own only one Seger CD, this is the only one offering a career overview but this could have and should have been so very much better.

  • "Someday"
    By A3DB0S45X1CP93 on 2004-06-21
Capitol, you know these are not Bob Seger's Greatest Hits. Why are you giving us this condensed compilation, then following up with yet another scattershot effort (Greatest Hits II)? Where is our box set, featuring ALL of these songs and ALL the fan favorites from the early years? When it comes, in 20 years, it will be one of the best selling boxes ever, causing these two albums to be deleted. Too bad the "suits" have their sophisticated money making schemes all fleshed out, at the listener's expense. These CD's are not cheap. That box set certainly won't be, either. Why don't you treat the fans right and give us what we really want? We want "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", "Innervenus Eyes", "Lucifer", "Bo Diddley", "Midnight Rider", "Cross of Gold", "UMC", and ANYTHING from "Brand New Morning". Where are these songs?? You released them, and you're sitting on them. The fans can't even FIND these early tracks. Where are the even earlier ones, like the full- length "Heavy Music"?

Not recommended. Just turn on the classic rock station instead and save the money for gas. Great songs featured and misrepresented on a pair of crap comps. They did the same to Steve Miller. Sorry, Bob, but congrats on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Oldie but a Goodie

I had lost track the Bob Seger had performed sooo many great hits. This is one of the best albums I've purchased in the past year.

  • The Title is Greatest Hits, but what about the others
    By on 2000-02-24
Certainly need Volume II. What is missing is The Ring, Fire Lake, Coming Home, No Man's Land, Shining Brightly, Miami, etc. The CD is filled with the overplayed regular "hit" songs. He must come out with another CD. I don't even care if it is titled "The Not So Greatest Hits." Bob Seger is absolutely the "BEST"

  • This is such a great album

There is not one bad song on this album. It is so great. I give it 3 thumbs up and 6 stars. "Night Moves" is great. I didn't know that "Turn the Page" and "Still the Same" were his songs. It is probably the best greatest hits album in the history of Rock and Roll.

i was very disappointed when i got this cd. how can you have a greatest hits cd and leave off 4 top ten hits? including his only number one song? he left off fire lake, tryin' to live my life without you, shame on the moon, and shakedown(#1). plus he left off ramblin, gamblin man. i thought maybe he left these songs off because he didn't have enough room. this isn't the case. he had enough room to put 3 or 4 more songs on it! he probably left these songs off so you would have to go out and buy the other albums. good move bob.

  • This is awsome!

This is an awsome greatest hits for Bob Seger because it really is his greatest hits its not a best of that has songs that really arent his best it has all his biggest hits. Even if it had 'Turn The Page' and 'Night Moves' only it would still be way worth the money. Bob Seger is true American rock and roll! He is one of those non-replaceable rockers! Every song Bob Seger makes is amazing and they are made just for his amazing voice no one else could pull them off and here is his biggest songs, the ones they missed will be on number to but this is a must have even more then the ones on number 2! You'll love this as a blueprint on how to start your Bob Seger collection!

  • Bob Seger's best is right here and now!!
    By A1UBTU2ST7P1N2 on 2006-02-23
Fun CD, one of the better greatest hits albums I've seen in a while! Bob Seger's voice and the songs filled with American spirit and fun times as well as covering hardship and loss make his greatest hits a must have!

There are 14 songs on here and I love them all. The sad song We've got tonight is on here as well as Mainstreet. Mainstreet has a great slow guitar part on it and is a sad sounding tune. Still the Same is also on here and one of my favorites. Turn the page has always been a favorite, it is a song about being on the road and running into different situations while touring. Hollywood nights is also a tune that is fun, and like a lot of Seger's music, tells a great all american story about a boy who leaves home and goes to hollywood and falls in love at a young age. Against the Wind is also a great tune that is typcical of Seger, it's slow and not to sad but just a great song that evokes people that are trying to make their lives better. If you like Bob Seger you should get this greatest hits album it is worth it, because they are all here!

  • An introduction to Bob Seger...Class 101
    By A3J4136Z5WSG43 on 2006-05-30
So, you heard a few Bob Seger tunes on the radio over the years like "Night Moves", "Turn the Page" or maybe even "Mainstreet" and you are looking for just one CD to buy, well you found it. This CD of 14 tunes covers some of Bob Seger's standard FM radio songs and is a very good place to start.

If you want a few older rockers like "Fire Down Below", "Sunspot Baby" and "Katmandu", then proceed to "Bob Seger Greatest Hits, Vol. 2" that has 16 songs plus a bonus video of "Turn the Page" on it. Both these CD's are a great introduction to Bob Seger.

After you have enjoyed those two CD's, you are now ready to graduate to the next level with "Live Bullet" for a little "U.M.C." and "Heavy Music". Listening to Seger "live" is the next best thing to watching Alto Reed flying through the air.

I am sure there will be a Seger GH3 one day but for now I would get those 3 CDs in that pecking order.

If you are a long time Seger System/Silver Bullet fan, well I am preaching to the choir here and you won't be satisfied until you get the full-boxed set. But hey, at least recently the "Smokin' O.P.'s" album was issued on CD.
