Jensen JF25 Stereo Headphonesx

(54 reviews)

Best Price: $24.99

These full size headphones are perfect for use with home audio systems. They offer the perfect mix of form and function. Crisp, clear sound from comfortable headphones make the perfect addition to any home audio system. Features include a quality Neodymium drive system with single entry cord, track ball volume control with muter self-adjusting headband, full size 40mm element for rich, clear sound reproduction and gold plated plug with 1/4" stereo adaptor.

Jensen's JF25 Stereo Headphones are a rare treat--comfortable headphones that are as pleasing to the ears as they are to the head. With clear, open highs and full, deep bass, the JF25s will render your favorite music with authority and verve.

The Jensen JF25 Headphones' ear-fitting drivers, light weight, and self-adjusting headband ensure comfort and ease of listening. Both speaker leads travel in a single wire stemming from the left earcup, minimizing knotting and allowing freer movement during use.

A clippable level-control mechanism (up, down, or mute) obviates the need for immediate access to your listening device, letting you tuck your portable cassette, MiniDisc, CD, or MP3 player into a backpack, purse, or pocket. We found the volume control inconvenient. The knob is hard to access and the mute control button needs to be pressed continuously, instead of being a simple instant-kill switch.

While Jensen reports a 20 to 20,000 Hz frequency range for the JF25s, it does not state the variances from "flat" along this range. Expect some suck-out in the midrange, and slight bloatedness in the bass (the usual sacrifices for headphones commanding low-frequency tonal response). But overall the sound is good, with strong bass and clear, non-abrasive treble.

An included 1/4-inch adapter fosters listening from component audio sources such as integrated amplifiers, CD players, and some DVD machines.

Pros:

  • Good, full-range sound
  • Comfortable
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons:

  • Trackball volume control hard to use
  • Slightly bloated bass

  • Cool, for the price

    By A19B5DR98JN3WX on 2000-03-29
I've had these headphones for about two months. And they're a great deal for the price.

The sound isn't bad. The bass slightly drowns out the treble, and could be deeper and more clear. The treble itself could also produce clearer midtones. But again, the sound is decent, and the treble and bass can be adjusted with an equalizer. Also, the sound doesn't become harsh when turning up the volume.

The headphones are very comfortable, although they look a bit strange because they curve outward from the head. So the head winds up looking like an alien... They also have a long cord with volume and mute control. The long cord and volume control are convenient, but you have to hold the mute button down, as it doesn't behave like a light switch. Still, I often don't use the mute button because the headphones insulate well. So even if the mute button is on, it's hard to hear others. At the same time, you won't bother people with loud music.

Overall, in spite of their weird look, these headphones are a good deal for the price, and provide great comfort, decent sound, and convenient volume control.

  • Well, more like 4.5 stars, actually....

I am so happy that I purchased this pair of headphones! I have never owned anything but the dinky 5 dollar ones before, and was sick of having constantly aching ears from the poor sound quality, as well as cheap parts rubbing against sensitive ear bits. These 'phones have changed everything. Here's the good stuff: *They have rich, deep sound, and block out or muffle outside noise. *Super-comfortable! They hug around your ears rather than pressing against them. *Little to no distortion at high volume levels. *Big bass - I have tested these guys with some of the bassiest techno I could find, and it performed exceedingly well. *The extra-long cord, with the mute and volume control within easy reach, are very convenient.

Now the bad points: * They are big, and they are clunky. * If you are in a hot room, they will make you sweatier because they cover so much skin. Also, people who are claustophic about things around their heads or faces will find this uncomfortable, and are probably better off getting a much smaller set of phones. * Treble could use a little bit of work. Very heavy bass at very high volume will drown out the treble, which makes listening annoying. However, if you are listening on a device that has equalizer control, you can probably adjust it to a more comfortable level. Also, this probably won't even come up unless you are listening to some heavy techno, etc. *They are heavy and tend to want to slip off your hair while you wearing them. No head-banging with these puppies on! ; )

But man, they are so comfortable! The sound is very nice; much nicer than I expected for the price. If you are looking for a comfy pair of heradphones that will allow you to really *enjoy* your music, try these on for size. Enjoy!

  • Great regardless of price!

This is a great set of headphones for the price. Would even pay a bit more for them. They are pretty big and are really for home use. I wouldn't take them out rollerblading. Good long cord, good sound, good volume control. Only complaint, I wish that mute button would stay down. It only stays muted when I hold it down.

  • I would think I'd have to pay more for these!

    By A38X8T4M4K5PAC on 2000-01-06
I would say that these are a great value for the price. I like a lot of bass, but there isn't an overwhelming amount of bass. The treble is crisp and cymbals aren't pingy, they are crisp and precise. For the price of $14.99, these earphones are an incredible value. The treble is crisp, the bass is great. And considering I have a 200 watt infinity sub on my home system, I know good bass when I hear it. These earphones are comfortable and sound great. I use them everyday at school with my portable cd player, and let me say I am extremely satisfied with them. Considering I purchased these to replace a pair of $75 Sony Earphones, and I'm more satisfied with these, I'm extremely impressed. The only reason I can think of why somebody would give these a bad review, is if they purchase a pair of Sennheiser pro series which run minimum $150 a pair. These earphones have the best quality for the money! Don't pass these up!

  • very good value

    By on 1999-09-14
good strong bass, clear treble, ok midrange. more importantly in this price range: looks really good and feels really good. :-)

  • great for the price, might pay more
    By A3I6CFMBRH0QWV on 2000-01-04
These headphones are a great value. They cover the full ear ear, which is a plus, and the volume control on the cord has come in very useful when you can't reach the volume control on the device you're using. The mute button is also a great feature (something you wouldn't expect on headphones at this price) but not being able to make it "stick down" can be a bit bothersome, still a great bargain!

  • Sweet Headphones!
    By A370ZV6ZR2Y7UO on 2000-03-14
I had a pair of Discwasher Headphones for a while which put out some serious bass and had an in-line volume control. These Jenson phones are from the same company as the Discwashers I had. The 40mm driver in these Jensons are 5mm bigger than my old discwashers. I just sold the Discwashers to a friend b/c he never heard such awesome sound on headphones before. These Jensons are better! I am so happy. They are at a DANG GOOD price, sound awesome, and have a great volume/mute control. I don't believe many heaphones can compare to this one especially for the price.

  • Good sound, but hurts my ears.
    By on 2001-11-23
After wearing these headphones for 30 minutes, my ears begin to hurt. I'm not sure if I'm wearing them wrongly, but these headphones press my ears against my head.

Because these are closed ear headphones, you should expect the discomfort normally associated with wearing headphones for an extended period of time. So, it's a good idea to remove the headphones every so often. However, discomfort shouldn't include causing my ears to hurt.

The sound is pretty good for the price. I wouldn't say it's great; my Harmon Kardon speakers are better. I use these headphones to listen to audio when my roommate is in the room.

These headphones come with a volume control as part of the cord. I don't use the mute button because you have to hold it down, but I just turn the volume all the way down if I need to.

Countless times I've dropped the headphones, banged it, yanked it when the cable was caught on something, but the headphones still work. The 2 meter cable is nice and long, longer than the usual 2-5 feet you usually get. My final recommendation: if you're looking for cheap cheap headphones with good audio, get these, but don't wear them for extened periods of time.

  • You get what you pay for
    By A3GNK4533FIDGK on 2000-01-23
The headphones look nice and sound ok for the price. I found the bass is "muddy" and a bit to heavy drowning the treble. For the price you get a decent sound, not great. I would recomend spending a little more. I gave them to a friend a plan on spending a little more ($30-40 range)

  • Good phones for the price
    By on 2002-03-12
I needed some headphones for my mp3 player. Since my mp3 does not feature manual volume controls (rather digital ones accessible through a menu), one of the criteria had to be that the headphones had a volume control on the cord.

    Other criteria included:
    - Inexpensive. I don't believe in dropping outrageous amounts of money for something that I will use only for my mp3 player at work.

    - Sound quality. While I'm looking for something that won't break the bank, I want a quality set of phones that will give an overall decent sound.

With this in mind I came across the Jensen JF25's reviews. They were mostly favorable, and so I gave them a shot. For this price, you get a great set of headphones. They aren't going to blow you away, but they definitely do their job.

I believe I'm still in the break-in period with these headphones, but I can echo some of the other review made. The bass, while not lacking, can be slightly overbearing at times. Also, I'm not sure if this will go away with time, but some tones can come across harsh (but inconsistently so).

Overall, if you're looking for something cheap, you should check these out. These phones are not for audiophile elitists looking for a bargain. Rather, I believe these phones will fit the average listener on a budget extremely well.

  • Unsatisfactory Experience
    By A134LO5XPZ3ALK on 2000-01-03
I purchased these headphones as a backup set (my main pair are 100 dollar cordless monitors), thinking that they would be a good price for what they could do. At first I was very satisfied with what these headphones delivered, but soon later my ears became sore from hearing the harshing, overly bassy tones from them. In addition, the materials provided a very uncomfortable fit. To top it all off, the right channel stopped working, because a wire got out of place. I have returned these headphones already, and I *don't* recommend buying any set of headphones under 30 dollars.

  • Muffled sound
    By A1H3Q553FG75RD on 2002-09-17
I JUST bought these phones. I am going to return them. I have major issues with their sound. The phones DO have a nice rich bass (as other reviewers state), which I generally love, but these buggers make everything ELSE sound (like all the other instruments and voices) is singing/playing into a styrofoam cup -- very muffled and flat. It just didn't have that "ring" to it or crispness. I tried them on my computer and through my receiver/stereo. Only if I cranked the treble to the max and dropped the bass to pretty low did it sound "fair". Even my wife agreed, who always shakes her head at my audio pickiness! I'm going to look for another brand or upgrade a few dollars-worth!

I *will* miss the volume control on the cord, and the "mute" button, though it only drops the volume substantially, rather than completely removing the sound. I won't miss looking like a weirdo in them. They bow out just above your ears. They were comfy, I will say, though I only wore them for 20 minutes.

  • Don't buy if you value your hair!
    By on 2001-03-08
I also bought these headphones for work. While the sound quality is good, they are large, clunky, and have the habit of pulling out your hair at the sides where the earphones are attached. If you are female and value not having your hair pulled out every time you remove the headphones, purchase another kind!

  • Nice Headphones
    By on 2002-08-04
After having these headphones for over 3 months, I still tend to use them daily because the sound quality on these are really nice! The remote is also convenient. And the mute button isn't that hard to use. The only bad part on these pair of headphones is they look like some kind of alien communication device, and they are not comfortable when speaking of wearing these for more than maybe a few hours.
Overall though these headphones are really nice and are a bargain for what they cost.

  • Soft headphones, great sound
    By A20QZONVX3CV3D on 2000-07-09
I just got these 'phones and I am impressed how well they fit my ears and how soft and wearable their earpieces are.

    Highly recommended.

  • too bulky... but awesome bass
    By A191T9WBGY925O on 2000-05-28
The speaker adjacent to the cord gives great sound but the speaker opposite side of the cord is horrible. The head set is very bulky. Despite these inconviences this product has great sound.

  • Nice sound but comfortability has a lot to be desired for
    By AWQ6CL2G4OPJX on 2002-06-26
First off, lovely sound, nice bass, nice high-end notes. If these headphones had comfortable ear-pieces, this product would get a 4 or 5.

Now my ears seem normal enough, but wearing these for, say, 3 hours, take the headphones off, and I am in a lot of pain for about 5 minutes. The cartalidge sticking out on my ears presses against the plastic innards of the headphones... and this really really hurts after a while. So this is a big problem with them.

I would not buy this product again simply because of the discomfort it has caused me.

  • there grrrreat
    By on 2004-07-18
they are so good i bought 2! one for me and one for my friend. they sound good and they are very comfortable, and affortable.

  • A definite yes
    By A2Z7LZ3O5YX7H1 on 2000-10-04
These headphones work really well. The sound quality is the best. I would definitely recommend them. The price is unbeatable.

  • Looks funny...
    By A3JP1OY2L5417D on 2001-01-04
The headphones are alright... I like the way the volume control is... but when you put them on, it's another story. Your head will look like a light bulb or something, I laughed when I saw myself in the mirror with them on.

  • Incredible Value!
    By ADIDQRLLR4KBQ on 2002-03-11
Sturdily-built, Jenson's JF25's are phenomenal headphones for the price! Featuring a thick, durable non-adjustable black plastic headband and comfortable, stretchy faux leather strap to hug your head, they are also comfortable, professional and attractive.

The earphones are attached to swivel and better hug your head. Labeled L and R, the well-made chrome look headphones are padded with a smooth material and lined with a soft black foam that molds to better fit the wearer. The 'phones also feature an extra-long cord. Unlike those unexpensive earbuds or a standard headphone that requires the listener to remain stationary, the 6' cord allows you to move around a room (great for dancers who live in apartment buildings). On the cord is a control switch for easier volume control or a quick mute. I find it very easy to use and preferrable to fiddling with my boombox or Walkman volume control switch every two seconds.

Sound quality is very good (the best considering the price range). Everything is always very crisp, clear and true.

They might take some getting used-to. When I first started wearing them, they pinched my head and left me with a bad headache. The more I wore them, though, the less the effects were. By now, either they've molded to fit my head properly, or perhaps I'm just used to them. In any event, they're my most comfortable pair, and the nicest ones I've found for [the price]. Don't let them pass you by!

  • Comfortable, and good sound
    By A36NW00607K49I on 2002-05-19
Comfortable on the ears. Light on the head. Good sound quality
for the price range. Has adapter for computer or Hi-Fi stereo plugin. Much more cord length than cheapy mini phones.
    I enjoy it!

  • Good, but a few flaws.
    By A2JTOF068V4I64 on 2002-06-19
These are good headphones. They deliever good all around good sound. However, they've got a few flaws. For one thing, while they are light, they are a bit uncomfortable at times. The remote control thing on the cable is at a bit heavy, so it can pull at the cable, which can be annoying. I bought these so I'd have headphones until I could afford a nicer model. If you're doing the same thing, I would recommend these. But, if you're looking for a good, keep 'em for live headphones, don't pick these.

  • wow
    By on 2002-07-02
this is a really good product!the sound is really good and it think they fit perfectly. Some others dont like the comfort because it squeezes their ears, well maybe i have smaller ears then everyone else but this pair of headphones are great!

  • You get what you pay for...
    By A3TM20GH659WDI on 2002-07-30
I was looking for some headphones to replace my old Sony MDR-V2s that were losing their foam covering. I wanted them to limit outside noise while not leaking the sound out to outsiders either, as I need them for practicing piano without disturbing my roommates. This is why the closed-back design seemed favorable.

In reading reviews of other headphones while trying to make my selection, I found that a major problem with closed-back designs is that the sound resonates and distorts, making it sound like tin cans over your ears.

There is no exepction with these. When I tried playing my keyboard through them, they sounded way worse than any headphones or ear buds I had ever used with it.

To their credit, keyboard voices other than piano sounded a little better, so maybe these headphones would be great for listening to techno music or something, but certainly not classical.

    I shall be returning these.

  • 90 day wonder
    By A2GARPSATCEW4S on 2002-11-06
The sound on these headphones was fine, while it worked. It just stopped working after about 3 months of use. It's not like I abusing the product. I used on the subway for the ride to and from work. That's about it. An hour and a half a day. It's too light to use as a doorstop, so I guess it's now useless. I'd stay away from this product.

  • Five years old and still pumping out the music!!
    By ABPXKM8GQT4IY on 2005-06-23
You cannot find a better set of speakers for the money. I have had these for five years with no problems and they are still the same as when I bought them. There is a handy volume control on the speaker cord. Buy these and you won't regret it.

  • Quite satisfied, unfortunate disaster
    By A1RMIFPUBF7EXH on 2000-07-31
I was quite pleased with my headphones, which I purchased mid-january to use in my dorm room. They were somewhat uncomfortable with extended use (2 hours or so), but they felt pretty good, and I never had a problem with sound quality. A few days shy of the end of the year, the plastic on the un-chorded side split cleanly in two, for no apparent reason. However, for 15 bucks, AND with a lifetime(!) warranty, I still highly recommend these. I just ordered a nicer pair of sony open air ones, but these served me well.

  • Good Features & Price.. Ok Sound.
    By on 2001-10-02
I have a pair of these plugged into my computer full time (using a splitter with my speakers on the same line) and the best thing about them is the volume rocker, you can easily turn your music up or down without having to hit the sound control panel. The self adjusting head band works quite well too, easier than having to change lengths to get the right fit.

Those two "extras" put this set above the rest when I was looking for some bargain phones. Have used them for a couple months, they're decent, but the sound has me wanting more, so I'm now looking at sub $... Sennheisers, will see how those work out and probably just use these for portables.

  • great price, great sound
    By on 2001-11-19
great sound and bass response. these are the cheapest headphones i have been satisfied with. great for for traveling and mobile use. if you worry about your hair more than the sound of your music, you don't deserve such a great product. peace
