Jokari Fizz Keeper Pump Bottle Capx$2.99
    (16 reviews)
Best Price: $4.00 $2.99
Those big jugs of soda make sense economically, but if you don't drink it often enough the beverage can go flat after the initial opening. This pump cap repressurizes the bottle to preserve the fizz.
Unless you're prone to malaria, it's a decent bet you won't finish a bottle of quinine-laced tonic water at one sitting--likewise, that bottle of sugar- and caffeine-free Coca-Cola that was brought to a Pepsi Lovers' picnic. And if there's anything sadder than a fizzless, half-filled bottle of cream soda taking up refrigerator space, please keep it to yourself. How to preserve the fizz in that 1-, 1.5-, or 2-liter bottle that wasn't finished? Jokari has created a solution with the Fizz-Keeper pump cap, a simple device just over 3 inches tall that screws onto the bottle's neck, replacing the existing cap. By repeatedly raising and lowering the simple piston until the sides of the plastic bottle (it's not for use with glass bottles) don't compress, you've effectively created an airtight seal and equalized the internal pressure. As the name "Fizz-Keeper" suggests, it's all in an effort to ensure that Saturday's soda makes a gin and tonic effervescently refreshing, even on a Tuesday. --Tony Mason

Great Idea that really works! By AOBGCZN9TXXJ7 on 2004-05-04
Wow! It didn't go flat on me. This is one of those simple ideas that should have been thought of years ago when they first invented plastic soda bottles. Screw it on and pump it up a little. Your open bottle of soda will now last up to a week or more. Made right, they last a long time too. Have fun!
It works every time for us By A1D5LARCMBS1ST on 2006-07-06
We LOVE this item -- our soda doesn't go flat, even if there is just a little soda left. Perhaps the other reviewer didn't pump it enough times? We've used this for over 5 years now, without problem -- except they're so HARD to find!
It seems to work by putting enough air pressure into the bottle so the carbonation doesn't have 'room' to pop and go flat. Please restock these!
Love the fizz keeper By A1RFWD7C2LIU9T on 2004-05-28
I got one of these to see if they worked and now I want more of them. It really does work. Simple to use and a real money saver since you won't be throwing away flat soda/pop like you used to. Please get some more of these in stock!!! Joan
Great Idea By A3DHGGWLNBDRKV on 2007-09-06
I've used these for several years without problem. It kept a half-empty coke bottle fully carbonated for 4 weeks while I was away. Don't understand how anyone can give it a bad review. Theory is simple, it keeps maximim pressure inside the bottle - as if it were unopened - to keep soda from going flat. Being a big pop drinker, I couldn't do without them.
The Fizz Keeper Works! Please Read This By A17Z60VXC4412 on 2007-11-14
Sorry Palmer (and the American Chemical Society) I have used the Fizz Keeper for more than 5 years and I KNOW it works! The only time any of mine have ever failed is when they have cracked around the top rim or when I didn't pump them enough times. I have one pump which is still working after 5 years. With care, I am certain your Fizz Keeper will last as long.
Here is the best way to use them.
1. Don't put them on a bottle until you have drank enough so that the pump isn't sitting in the drink. The sugars in the soda can cause the pump to stick.
2. As much as possible, don't shake or get the pump drenched in soda.
3. As soon as you're done pouring your drink put the pump back on the bottle, pump the pressure back up and stick it back in the fridge.
4. As the amount of soda in the bottle drops, you will have to pump the Fizz Keeper more times.
Here's how many times I pump it: Top 1/3 10 to 12 times. 50% gone ... 18 to 20 times. 1/3 or less left, 30 times. If you don't keep enough air pressure in the bottle, the carbonation will come out of the soda as the level drops and fill the vacuum left in the bottle. I pump the Fizz Keeper until I find it hard to squeeze the bottle in at its sides.
Don't shake the bottle as you pump. This agitates the carbonation and causes it to leave the liquid. Place the bottle on something solid, like a counter, and then start pumping.
5. As you pump, don't bang your Fizz Keeper. If it's making a clapping sound as you pump. You are pumping it too hard. Don't try and draw a full stroke on it, partial (3/4 strokes) will allow it to last as long as possible. Once it starts to crack around the top rim it's done for and you'll have buy a new one.
6. Remove and rinse it with water after the bottle is empty.
I hope the above helps all who are considering buying this little marvel.
I have purchased and used almost all of the various soda keepers on the market and this is the only one I can recommend. You are gonna love it and use it often!
*******
I thought I would add the following. Though Kurt Greske is correct about air being more soluable in water than the carbonation. In a "closed system" like a plastic bottle that process will take some time to occur. Unlike your lungs (which are an open system) the carbonation has to go somewhere; hence the process doesn't occur immediately. It takes some time. As long as you finish the bottle within a couple of weeks I doubt you will even notice what loss does occur. After all, I doubt any of us would want to drink from a soda bottle that was opened two months ago. All I ask the Fizz Keeper to do is extend the life of the soda a reasonable length of time. For me, that's two weeks, maybe less.

I was doing some research on the "Fizz Keeper" and according to the American Chemical Society, the "Fizz Keeper" does not work at all. They don't even claim that it works on their patent application. Basically, your two liter bottle of soda will remain sufficiently carbonated until it is less than half full, at which point it will go flat regardless of whether you use the "Fizz Keeper" or not. It may slow the flattening process slightly, but not significantly enough to invest in this item.

- Fizz Keeper Rocks!
     By AUWALUVLWK20K on 2007-10-26
No spokesperson, just a huge fan. I'd had a Jokari Fizz Keeper Pump Bottle Cap for years before it recently gave out. I then purchased five more - one for myself, four to give to family / friends for Christmas. Fantastic product that works exactly as promised. I can't count how many half-full bottles of soda Fizz Keeper has saved! Do yourself the favor -- [ASIN:B00004XSH3 Jokari Fizz Keeper Pump Bottle Cap].
- Fizz LOSER, not fizz keeper!
     By A38SEQO7XECVPN on 2007-11-03
This is a bad concept from the start! Rated one "star" ONLY because it has to be rated by at least one star to be accepted!! Buy the Soda Dispenser The Soda Dispenser by Jokari instead. Anything that opens the soda bottle to atmosphere more than one time or pumps AIR into the bottle LOSES the fizz because air is MORE soluble in water than carbon dioxide is. The air that you let or pump into the bottle goes into solution in the formerly carbonated water and drives the carbon dioxide out of the water as a gas. THAT is how and WHY your lungs work. If this didn't happen you wouldn't be alive! Then, every time you tip the open bottle to pour out some of the soda, you also pour out all of the carbon dioxide gas that is on top of the soda in the bottle and let MORE fresh air into the bottle to drive even MORE carbon dioxide out of the soda liquid. In your body that is what's known as breathing! Furthermore, pumping air into the bottle with the pump action of this only makes matters worse because it forces even more air into the bottle to displace the carbon dioxide from the soda liquid. In your body that is what's known as artificial respiration! Water that is saturated with AIR doesn't taste fizzy, it tastes FLAT!
- Yes, it does work, it works well, and seems well made.

These work. But you must pump it a lot to really pressurize the bottle. Not a problem for me but my wife thinks it takes too much pumping. Figure at least 20 to 30 strokes. It's a small pump so that's just the way it's has to be. It will keep the fizz in the soda much longer then just putting the cap back on. Plus the fizz keeper seals well and is still easy to unscrew and rescrew unlike the caps that come on these bottles. To make the original caps seal you need to use a pair of pliers to get them tight enough and I'm not joking, that's one reason these bottles go flat, the original caps seal very poorly once they are opened.
- I love this product, but the shipping price is outrageous.

I've had two Fizz Keepers for over five years, use them constantly and they're still going strong. I like them so much, in fact, I decided to order a bunch for Christmas presents for my colleagues at work and my family and friends.
However, when I saw the shipping cost, I went into shock. $27.95 might be understandable if I'd asked for Next Day or Express delivery, but I didn't.
To say the distributor is gouging on their shipping and handling charges is putting it mildly. Far from giving any kind of a quantity discount, the bigger the order, the more they charge; (which is probably I can no longer find the Fizz Keepers in any of my local stores).
Even though I choked on the shipping charge, I went ahead with my order anyway. However, it'll be a cold day you know where before I order anything from this distributor again.
In closing, under normal circumstances I would have given this excellent product five stars. However, because of the gouging on the shipping and handling charges, and for that reason alone, I'm only giving it three stars.
- Could use a slight redesign
     By A28JL0EBMCR36H on 2007-11-29
This works well. It keeps the carbonation in the bottles longer than it would without it.
I think the product could be improved by making the top part (the part you pump) a little more 'hand friendly'. Why make that part so small?
Otherwise, I like it.
- Shame it doesn't work.
     By AHLIDXBKRANUG on 2008-01-11
Tragically it is true, if you open and reclose a bottle a few times and repump every time, it keeps the air pressure in the bottle up, but since the partial pressure of CO2 is different then air, the CO2 will still come out of solution, e.g.... your pop will go flat. I bought one on a bet, and tested it in hopes of disproving the myth. Oh well.
For 3$, enjoy the bubbly placebo!
- yes, it does work.
     By A3847HZVNX4IT on 2008-04-12
well, to keep it short, yes, it does work. like one of the other reviewers said, you do pump it like 35 times or more to "re-pressurized" the soda bottle... more pumping the less amount of soda is left in the bottle...
pumping isn't difficult. I had a half full 2 liter bottle of soda that I put this fizz keeper on, I left it in the fridge for over a month (about 5 and a half weeks) and yes, when I did re-open the bottle, the soda still had plenty of "fizz"... to me, that's a pretty iron clad test... I would suspect that most of the time one wouldn't be keeping soda around for more then a month...
so I don't know what some of the reviewers are talking about when they say it doesn't work or that "pumping air into a soda bottle will actually help REMOVE the fizz"... I'm guessing they haven't actually tried one of these gadgets out in person (or in the "lab")... or if they have bought one, they're just "doing it wrong"... ;o)
bottom line; it works for me... only "con" is that if you are going to be opening and closing the bottle often it could become a bit of a pain to be re-pressurizing (pumping) the bottle each time...
- Fantastic!!

This fizz keeper is fantastic! Have had the first one for a couple of years, when it finally cracked. We liked it so well, that after searching for a new one with no results, that we glued it together with 5 minute epoxy. It is still working with its repairs, but went to Amazon to search for a new one. Ordered three, just in case. As a 'Gin & Tonic' occasional
drinker, it is a tonic saver delux. What more can I say. Thanks so much, and I highly endorse the Jokari Fizz Keeper. Thanks again, Cindy Stills

Nice concept, but doesn't work. Sure, the bottle will hiss like a fresh bottle each time you open it...but if anything it will make the soda go flat even faster. The only way this would work is if you pump in pure CO2 that is equal to or greater than the amount of CO2 in the soda. Refer to Dalton's Law on gas partial pressures. You're better off squeezing all of the air space out of the bottle and capping it than pumping the bottle full of air. If this is keeping your bottle of soda from going flat, then you're drinking the soda too fast.
