  • Must have for the CoolPix 880

    By A4TJ5IY73136L on 2000-12-05
If you have a Nikon CoolPix 880 you MUST have this battery. The EL-1 will keep you camera running for about 2 hours and can be recharge with the Nikon AC Adaptor/Charger.

You would better served if you pick up two of these so one can be chargeing while the other is in use. Lots of power packed into a tiny unit. Save the landfills and use a rechargable.

Also this product can save you lots of money, as the standard battery is about $12 to replace.

  • An absolute must for the 995

    By A14DCX175Y7BW2 on 2002-03-04
I have the Nikon 995, and possibly the only problem I have with it is that it won't show you how much battery life you have left. It shows full, half, and empty, which really doesn't tell you very much. So, I wind up spending a lot of time stressing over whether a "half charged" battery was 30% full, and going to run out, or 80% full, and going to last the whole shoot.
Save yourself the worry, buy a second one.
This battery is a quick recharge (about two hours) and a long life. With the Nikon 995, you should have 110 minutes of use with the LCD, or days of use without it. I kid you not, the battery is good for days of continuous use if you operate without the monitor.
Buy a spare battery, keep one charging at all times. Never worry about batteries again.
    Be well,
    Indra

  • This is the battery for Nikon Coolpix 775, 880 and 995

    By on 2001-12-09
You can take a lot of pictures (100+) with the charge on one of these batteries, but its hard to know when your going to run out. Having a second seems a must.

I don' know about the other cameras that use this battery, but the 775 comes with an external charger that charges a battery in less than 2 hours. It also has an interal battery that keeps track of the date & time and is automatically recharged from the fresh EN_EL1 battery. (Some camera settings are lost when you remove the EN_EL1 battery).

  • Very Good

    By A1NHHCJAB1KDOG on 2004-08-18
I own six of these batteries, and they have all worked fine. I typically go on road trips with some mountain climbing, and I will shoot hundreds of images a day. Generally, I go through about two batteries a day, at this rate. I often camp, so am unable to get to a power source, then have to get a motel room sometimes every other day.

Using my EH-21, I can recharge as many as five batteries a night--they usually take some 1.5 hours to fully recharge. It's so convenient to have the recharge light so I know when the charge is completed.

I hope to upgrade to a higher MP Coolpix, soon, and the added recharger that now comes along with the camera should make for faster recharging, then able to use two at a time.

You do need to keep these babies warm during the night camping, and take them out of the camera while you're not using them during cool or cold nights.

I have to replace a exhausted battery quickly for my Coolpix 880, since if I wait too long, I must reset the camera settings, including the time and date. My Coolpix 2000 does not have this problem.

It's good to have a few batteries since they take up little room in my camera pack, and beginners might be distressed to find with only one or two batteries, you can run out of juice after only a few hundred shots. I do use my LCD display heavily, and am often turning the camera on and off.

Cheers for Nikon that they do not fail to support this product by changing to new types of batteries for their newer models. I plan to get either a 5400 or 8700, later, since they use the same battery type.

These EN-EL 1 batteries last much longer than a set of AA batteries. They have lasted me some hundreds of recharges so far, and I have not had to throw away any of my batteries, going back to 2001.

  • Don't go out without one

    By A1SNSGQQDMKLM8 on 2001-06-06
This is the second rechargeable battery I bought for my Nikon 880. It's worth the price, since you'll otherwise eat up regular batteries at a frightening rate. It thought I could get by with one battery, but it can be a big problem to run out of power on the road -- you might as well buy two right off the bat.

You need the charger (sold separately). It's annoying that you can't charge the battery in the camera, and even more annoying that you have to plug the camera into the recharger or it will forget date and settings when you take the battery out.

  • Not Even An Option - A Necessity!
    By ACBBTFVS34K1N on 2001-10-26
With my Nikon Coolpix 880, two of these and a charger, I no longer go broke buying batteries.

  • battery life span is 3 years!
    By AZYDQP43ZWOC6 on 2004-07-21
The battery is quick to charge and lasts days for the 995 I'm using. One draw back though: if you are the kind of amateur like me who takes tons of photos on one trip and forget the camera for half a year, then remember to take the battery out before you store it away! Otherwise as fore-warned in the brochure you'll see you battery aging much faster than it should be. This fact is buried in the camera manual and the battery doesn't come with any manual at all!

  • Using it with Nikon 5700..
    By A2A4OC6VGP7JSC on 2003-12-29
Purchase a second battery even though one can easily take 100-150 ( depending on flash usage ) on one battery charge. This is without any doubt the most useful accessory in my camera kit. I am using this with my Nikon 5700. No problem with this product and recommend purchasing it.

  • Gotta have two!
    By on 2001-07-29
880's a great camera that eats batteries like Elvis at a hamburger joint. Buy two so you always have a backup that's fully charged.

  • Not a real Nikon
    By A2RKPQ71JMETPT on 2006-06-05
I bought this in August 2005, when the original battery that came with my Nikon Coolpix 880 (late 2000) started running down fast. On the page I ordered from, it appeared to be a genuine Nikon battery, however, when I received it, it was not. It was made in Taiwan, and does not have the Nikon brand name anywhere on the battery (or packaging, as I remember). This battery has never held a charge well. It's about as bad as the original battery is now, and I've only had it a few months. Maybe I just got a lemon--but I'd recommend you buy a genuine Nikon, if you can find one.

  • Great battery!
    By A3IGHTES8ME05L on 2003-11-28
I have the coolpix 5700 and use this battery - it charges up pretty quickly (seems to be under an hour) and lasts a good long time. We just got back from a trip to Turkey & Greece and I took this camera and two battteries along. Took lots of pictures - battery seemed to last a good day or so between charges.

  • Whole lot of battery than generic ones
    By on 2004-01-20
I have 5700 and have tried other other generic (digipower) battery and they are not the same. you could save couple of buck but not worth it at all. my original 8month Nikon EN-EL1 outlasts generic battery by at least 1/3rd, not only does it lack, the cameria act very strange when battery is low. I think it's definetely worth it.

  • Save Hundreds and Hundreds on disposable Batteries.
    By A1FB5Q36ICYCB8 on 2005-04-12
If this Battery is the one for your Camera, Buy at least Two of these and get a recharger for AC and one for DC. I have taken hundreds of 5.1 MP shots on just two batteries. Recharging one while using the other.

If I missed a shot it wasn't the dead battery fault.

If you buy two of these batteries you can take pics like you just don't care, and you won't have to either. What more could you ask? it is a no brainer.

  • Charges Quickly
    By on 2004-02-19
Did the battery already charge? I guess it did... These batteries seem to charge quickly. They are also compact. I would recommend all users to get at least two batteries, and maybe even three. Once I was out photographing and ran out of battery power after about 1.5 hours. Not having any way to charge the battery on the road, I wasn't able to take any more pictures. Imagine being able to take a beautiful picture, but not being able to do so since you have no battery power. Be good to yourself, and buy another battery or two.

  • Required accessory for your camera
    By A3AGL7SRELZ1FH on 2004-09-28
Lets put it short and simple:
If you want to spend a day out photographing, you must have a backup battery. There are few things more disappointing than running out of battery when you still want to take pictures.
I didn't have a backup battery while visiting Paris. We ended up buying many EXPENSIVE disposable batteries.
When you consider how priceless memories of your vacations are, it would be a shame to let a few dollars keep those memories from being recorded.

  • Average performance
    By A2O0OB90YX7YUP on 2007-04-06
I use this battery on a Coolpix 5700. I have had my Coolpix for about 2 years now and the performance of this battery has been a mixed bag for me. I have used my Coolpix to shoot weddings, nature, landscape and architecture. When I started out, the number of shots I used to get per charge was quite normal. However, within a couple of months of use, the number of shots/charge dropped down dramatically. I called Nikon support and they mentioned that this number does go down with time. True! But within 2 months, that's hard to believe! And for those wondering if I was just on a picture-taking frenzy, no, I was not! I believed that probably the performance of this particular unit was bad, and bought one more EN-EL1. I got the same result with the second EN-EL1. Now I use them interchangeably, charge one while I use the other one. However, I am quite displeased with the performance. And the charger that came with the Coolpix 5700 started malfunctioning about a year after I bought the camera. So I had to go in for a non-branded charger for this battery. Now, I am unsure if this had anything to do with the performance, simply because I was still using the Nikon charger before it went bad. Also the battery indicator on the LCD panel for the 5700 needs an upgrade. Nikon seems to have just 3 indications on the battery life. It will be nice to have a menu setting that will display (in %) the remaining life of the battery. The other disadvantage with the Coolpix models is the inability to add a battery pack, which can fit in 2 batteries. Nikon probably should start thinking about incorporating this in the higher end models of the Coolpix line (5700, 8700 models).

Hope this review was useful! Thanks for reading!

  • life of battery
    By A3KN925U20OFQU on 2005-04-15
I have the nikon coolpix 4300 digital and two of these batterys. They work great as long as they last which is not 2 hours in my case. Maybe it is because I leave the monitor and flash on most of the time and take my pictures in a large size. All in all with two of these battery's I never run out of juice!

  • Its a battery - what can you say???
    By ADTF606SDQI7E on 2005-08-10
Its good to always have a spare for your coolpix camera as these things run out when least expected (and when you're nowhere near your charger). i would recomend buying one of these to keep with your camera when out and about.

  • Works Great After Thousands of Photos
    By A2IEYTDURY4KQQ on 2006-03-08
I own 2 of the Nikon EN-EL1 batteries and have taken a total of over 6,000 photos with my Nikon 4300 in the past 3 years. About half of the photos are with flash.

For my typical use, I get about 50 photos per battery. For vacation photos, I am using one battery, while charging the other.

After about 3,000 photos/battery and 3 years, I have not noticed any degradation in the battery life.

    Good value for the money.

  • Product is fine, seller is the problem
    By A201AOX8BD2K4A on 2007-07-04
I purchased this battery and the seller sent the wrong battery and I had to pay for it be returned. Got the correct battery on the next try, but I am not happy with paying for someone else's mistake. I have not had time to really use the product for the reason above. So for little time I had the wrong product I could not of course use it, nor could I use it as it was shipping back. Since that time I have only had a working battery for approximately a week. This took 3 weeks to get the correct battery so I could use it. This is starting from the date the original battery was shipped. Look carefully at who sells this.

  • Take the time to smell the flowers!!
    By A34CS5MY0PSOGV on 2006-01-30
Yes thats right, just what I mean. With this battery fully charged in your Nikon camera you can actually take the time to do both take the picture and smell the flowers ,without the worry about changing the battery(this can be done many times on same charge).Received this battery, charged it up and started taking pictures right away.Have taken about 75 pictures, about 65 of them with flash. And at the time of writing this review battery is still in camera on its same charge.( PS. Always use save battery function,if your camera has this feature)

  • Nikon EN-EL1 Rechargeable Battery order
    By A3GGZNW6HX0XDQ on 2006-03-10
Order received in good time - no problems.
Battery lifetimes are short - not as good as first
original from dealer, but twice as good as poorer
    choice batteries from other suppliers.

  • It's better than the generics
    By A3MAQWO16N0646 on 2007-01-09
I won't go with a no brand name battery again. Frankly, I don't think any battery holds a charge as long as it should. However, this one does ok but it's not generic either. Spend the money and get the real thing. Otherwise you'll spend the same amount in quantity of the other just to get the same amount of time.

  • Is there good battery for Nikon 4500
    By AD9HWOTRS6FAO on 2002-10-07
Battery (Nikon 4500) shows half does not means 50% left, actually there are 25%-35% left, is there battery can tell more exact number ? That will be great one.

  • please reply
    By AVEBFZVDL135I on 2003-02-11
I received the battery much faster than expected. 3 days with normal delivery. But I have one confusion as the battery EN-EL1 cover does not have coolpix model 4500 listed. It has coolpix 775, 880, 885, 995, 5000 but coolpix 4500 is not in the list. I am planning to use the EN-EL1 battery with coolpix 4500. Also on the battery it has 680mAh instead of expected 650mAh. But the voltage and everything is correct. Is this a problem? Can somebody reply soon.

  • A satisfied customer?
    By on 2004-03-25
I received this item in a timely manner, and it was in perfect condition. However, it must have been in a very hot place for awhile, because when I opened the box, the battery was rattling around loose in the box, and had come out of its package; the plastic front part of the package that the battery was actually in had simply let go of the cardboard backing. It wasn't torn, it just let go. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my new battery.

  • Can't go wrong with Nikon
    By AAO6BPG6MNTDF on 2008-01-28
You can buy cheaper replacement batteries, but you are gambling on quality at best. Many are just cheap knock-offs. I tend to stick with original name brand replacement. That way you know exactly what you are getting. The EN-EL1 that came with my Nikon camera worked reliably for several years and only recently did I see charge life diminish. I bought this new one as a primary battery and will use the old one as a spare. I would highly reccomend going with the EN-EL1
