Best Price: $34.99 $22.00

Warming & Sterilizing Avent The Avent Express Bottle and Food Warmer offers a fast, safe way to warm baby's foods. The bottle, cup or jar will be warm in only 4 minutes. Its simple too! Just add water to indicated level and switch on. Plus, electric

Bleary-eyed parents who scramble to heat bottles in the middle of the night while their baby screams will rejoice at the simplicity and speed with which the Avent Express Baby Food and Bottle Warmer warms milk (and food) to just the right temperature. All they need to do is place the filled bottle in the warmer, fill the warmer with water, plug in, and wait for the neon light to flash on and off. In four to six minutes, baby has his bottle.

The Details
Whether a parent is heating breastmilk, formula, or pureed peas; using Avent bottles, other brands, or baby food jars; the Avent Express Baby Food and Bottle Warmer gently and evenly heats baby’s meal. The included plastic basket is used inside the warmer to keep baby food jars and Avent bottles upright. It can be removed when heating the Avent Magic cup and other makes of bottles. Water is added to just above the level of the milk in the bottle (or below the top of baby food jar). Plug the unit into an electrical outlet and click the switch on. A neon light will illuminate. Turn the dial to the appropriate setting (3 for Avent feeding bottles and baby food jars, and 2 for Avent Disposable System). When the bottle has been in the warmer for the appropriate length of time (a guide is included, based on whether the bottle is at room temperature or refrigerated to start), the light will flash. Test the temperature and reheat if necessary or serve. Don’t forget to switch the warmer off and unplug it!

Why Not Just Use the Microwave?
The microwave is never recommended for heating baby bottles or food. It’s difficult to judge just how much time is needed, and even brief heating can create "hot spots," which can burn baby. In addition, important nutrients may be lost in microwave heating.

How About Just Putting the Bottle in a Bowl of Warm Water?
Sure, if you (and your baby) don’t mind standing by the sink waiting for the water from the tap to warm up, then waiting for the bottle to warm, checking, checking again, and again…

Get Out of the Kitchen
Midnight runs back and forth to the kitchen are not high on the list of favorite activities for most parents. A pleasant bonus to using the Avent Express Warmer is that it can be set up in the bedroom, bathroom, nursery…anywhere there is an outlet. Having the bottle warmer and fixings set up close to the action (not too close, though—mind the safety precautions) can subtract minutes from the whole process. And as any parent will tell you, every minute counts.

What’s in the Box
The Avent Express warming system includes bottle-warming unit, basket, feeding spoon, four-ounce Avent bottle with top (nipple not included), and instruction manual with time/temperature guide. All Avent products work together and are completely interchangeable.

Note: It is possible to overheat a bottle or jar of food with this system. If you find that a bottle is not warm enough after the allotted time, you may replace it in the warmer, but remember that, although the water surrounding the bottle will remain at a constant temperature, the contents of the bottle or jar will continue to heat. Always test the milk or food before feeding baby. Use all normal and necessary safeguards when using this electrical appliance. --Emilie Coulter

A convenient solution to the problem of quick and accurate bottle warming, the Avent express warmer is about the size of half a loaf of bread stood on end. The design is simplicity itself: a water-filled reservoir surrounds the bottle, heating standard acrylic baby bottles to the correct temperature in about four to six minutes. Of course, this is exactly what happens if a bottle is placed in any other container of warm water--what you get here is easier control over temperature and fewer trips to the kitchen. Designed to be used only with Avent feeding bottles or the Avent disposable system. Includes one 4-ounce Avent baby bottle, top, and spoon. --Richard Farr

  • a WARMER review

    By A2VB4DMFSOIQ98 on 2001-12-07
First off, reading the other "not-so-warm" reviews was amusing to read!!! I say this because, out of all the warmers out there, the AVENT one is far the best! NEW MOMS, READ the directions FIRST... There is a fill line inside the warmer that shows you how much water to put... ALSO, in the DIRECTION BOOKLET, it SAYS DO NOT PLACE WATER FIRST, PLACE BOTTLE FIRST then FILL with WATER to DESIRED LEVEL of formula in bottle... If you are using the 9oz bottles then fill to the top of the warmer! To SOLVE the problem of the ON/OFF switch dilemna, I plugged my unit on one of those multiple outlet strips with a switch... Instead of unplugging the unit, I just turn the switch... SIMPLE!!! LADIES be inventive when it comes to children, this is my first, AND I am finding new ways to streamline! It holds the AVENT, MAWS, and JOHNSONS Healthflow ANGLED very nicely! The BEST thing about this warmer is it REALLY HEATS EVENLY and HAS a nice WARM consistency. ENJOY!

  • This warmer lacks important features

    By A2V9Q6N9WO8G56 on 2001-06-15
Not knowing what to look for in a bottle warmer, I was attracted to this model because it was small in size and didn't take up a lot of counterspace. I have no complaints about its warming capabilities, but after using the warmer several times, I found I really needed a few more features than it offered:

The unit does not have an automatic timer, which means YOU have to keep up with how long the bottle has been in the warmer. And when you are trying to deal with a fussy infant, it's easy to lose track of time and overheat the bottle.

The unit has no Off/On switch and must be unplugged after each use.

Another small annoyance is the bottle does not sit flat, but floats unevenly in the water while heating.

I finally purchased another model which included these features.

  • could be warmer oh no too hot !!!

I bought the avent baby warmer and whilst not totally disappointed in it I also can not say that it is one of avents best products.
To list a few negative points
1- The product has no on/off button and personally I prefer not to take out plugs and leave them on the side when the surface is potentially wet also I have found that sometimes when removing plugs this can cause a spark which would be an unpleasant surprise for anyone however an adapter with an on off button does resolve this problem but adds cost to the product if you don't already have one.
2- The timings are not accurate which means I have to keep checking bottles so they don't overheat and when the bottle gets put back into the warmer the pressure of the bottle going into the water causes the water to overflow no matter how carefully done.

However on the positive side the warmer does heat the milk evenly and to a good temperature when kept an eye on and saves some time.

The best thing about any product is that it is designed so well that anyone can use it safely and effectively, the purpose of a great product is not to find ways of overcoming the products design faults. Having spoken to a many number of friends many of them agree that this product is a nice to have but by no means necessary.

However as with all avent products this is the best on the market so if you want a bottle warmer this is the one to buy.

  • not so warm review

    By on 2001-10-29
AVENT has great products however this one is not one of them. Here are a few reasons I feel this way: This warmer lacks an "on/off" switch and must be unplugged with each use (which with early a.m. feedings is not always easy to remember). The absence of this feature also requires unit to be placed near an easy to reach outlet at all times. Due to the absence of any premeasured units for filling water into chamber, overfilling causes bottle floating and messy clean-ups. Lastly the specified times for proper warming in manual is not always correct , thus overheating is usually the result if you walk away.

This product does have a few good points: It fit almost all bottle types (both reqular, disposable and wide mouth). It's easy to clean. It allow fast warming of breastmilk (frozen),formula and baby food(that has been refrigerator). and finally IT'S BETTER THAN WARMING UNDER TAP WATER!!!

  • Definite Time Saver- 99% Satisfied

    By A3CJ1XOJYAM2K on 2002-08-12
This is one of my favorite baby products as far as convenience goes. I've read several of the reviews here. I do agree that the absence of an on/off switch is somewhat of a nuisance, however this is my only complaint. With regard to a lot of the other consumer gripes and methods of use, I disagree and feel I must address them. Obviously, as with any new product acquired, it is usually most beneficial to a consumer to carefully read the instructions and follow them. The front of the warmer has a convenient diagram to remind the user of heating and timing settings per size and type of bottle. To warm regular Avent 4 oz. or 9 oz. bottles that have previously been refrigerated (~40 degrees), and for bottles prepared at around room temp (~70 degrees), the thermostat needs to be at 3. The water levels and heating times differ. I feel that I need to reiterate some of the instructions for any of you prospective consumers who would like to be well and accurately informed:

    Hazard Warning:

-Always unplug when not in use.
-Always place bottle into warmer BEFORE adding water.
-Ensure water has been added before switching the unit on.
-When the feed has reached the required temperature, remove immediately. If left in the warmer, the temperature of the feed will continue to increase.

Instructions for use for regular Avent feeding bottles:

-Ensure basket is in place inside the warmer.
-Place the assembled, filled bottle in the warmer.
-For 4 oz. bottles, (slowly- to avoid air bubbles) fill the warmer with water to just above the level of milk in the bottle.
-For larger bottles, fill the warmer to 1/2 inch below the rim of the warmer.
-Never let the water level rise above the neck of the bottle, or spill over the edge of the warmer.
-Plug in the unit . Turn the dial setting to 3.
-The light will illuminate to indicate the warmer is working.
-When the water has reached the correct temperature, the light will come on and off to indicate that the water surrounding the bottle is kept at a constant temperature.
-Always shake the bottle gently and check the temperature of the milk by sprinkling a few drops on to your wrist before you feed your baby.

If you follow these instructions and set a timer you should have a perfectly warmed 4 oz bottle in 5 minutes for previously refrigerated bottles; a 9 oz (previously refrigerated) bottle will be warmed in 6 minutes. Times for heating bottles from room temp are 4 minutes for either size.

I personally own the regular Avent bottles. This warmer will also accommodate the Avent Disposable System bottles, Avent Magic cup, baby food jars, and other makes of bottles. Instructions for these vary slightly for heat settings and times.
The basket can also be removed to allow the varying types to fit inside.

Overall, I am very happy with this product. It has saved me a lot of time and headaches.

  • not a warm review
    By on 2001-10-29
Of all the great products made by AVENT this one is the only one I dislike. I gave it a "2" because the unspecified water measuring for bottle warming lead to bottles floating and possible chamber overflowing (a messy cleanup for early a.m. feedings). It lacks an on/off switch and must be unplugged every time (which at 3 a.m. is not always easy to remember ),thus the placement of the unit must be near an easy to reach outlet. The warming time, according to manual, is not always correct and overheating is usually the result if you walk away.

It does have a few good points : a) it accomendates AVENT bottles and not all bottle warmers do. b) cleaning the unit is EASY. c) allows warming of both reusable and disposable bottles. d) warm food, frozen breastmilk, or formula quickly. e) IT BETTER AND QUICKER THAN WARMING UNDER TAP WATER !!

  • No better than warming your bottle on the stove.
    By on 2001-06-02
Here's what I don't like about this warmer: 1. You can't leave it plugged in, because plugging it in turns on the heater, and there is no on-off switch...I find this inconvenient. 2. Settings 1, 2, and 3 all go up to 160 degrees F...1 just takes a longer time to get there. The warmer doesn't shut off after reaching this temperature, so if you forget about it, the milk will get really hot.

This warmer probably makes sense if you don't want to take a trip to the kitchen to heat milk on stove and need to do so in the baby's room.

  • Overpriced Inconvenience
    By ADZP9ZLNIJLGB on 2002-02-21
I just bought this and I plan to return it. I thought it somehow miraculously heated your bottle by just having you plop your bottle in and voila, it would be ready to go 4 minutes later. Plus, I thought that it could be used to warm my baby's food in the future. Well, it does warm up both the bottle and food, but first you have to add water...but it has to be a specific amount of water and if you add to much or too little everything can get thrown off. What a pain!! Also, if you warm up a small jar of food you may get scalded when reaching in to grab it. The instruction manual suggests that you put something under the jar to prevent this. For [the price], I thought this thing was supposed to be make life much easier! After reading the manual, I've decided that it's basically an extremely overpriced water boiler. For convenience, I suggest moms just boil water once a day and put it in a thermos. This way, you can just pour it in a bowl and use it to heat bottles or food whenever needed and save yourself a whole bunch of $$$.

  • 120 Degrees?
    By APKRXQGSR40KO on 2002-02-19
Ok, what a piece of [...junk]. Besides all the lack of features, on/off switch and such this thing is piece of junk. In the manual it says, and I quote " 8) When the water has reached the correct temperature, the light will come on and off to indicate that the water surrounding the bottle is being kept at a constant temperature." end quote.

That would lead you to believe that you can leave it and it will keep the milk at the right temp. reguardless. Well, when I checked it the milk was at 120 [...] degrees!

So basically this is just as accurate and helpful as placing it in boiling water on the stove. If you dont take it out just at the exact time you will have CURD! Then again, maybe I am asking too much. Whatever. Dont waste your money.

    B.

  • It's a life saver!!!!
    By ARMPKSP0N92M1 on 2002-07-31
Honestly, I don't know why all these negative reviews. But it looks like they haven't been using it correctly, or at least not the way we do. I personally haven't read the instructions, but someone else in the family did so I think we aren't doing anything we shouldn't
Since the day we bought it, we never had a single problem with it. We decided to get this one beacause we already had products from Avent (bottles, nipples, breast pump, etc...) and certainly it is worth the money. I can't tell you it's the best out there cause we never tried a different brand, but why would we if this one is working out great.

As I said, after reading those negatives reviews, I realized we use ours in a different way:

    - first of all, we live the warmer plugged in ALL the time. We never unplug it even if we leave the house, although that's your choice, but while at home, you can leave it plugged. It's like a coffemaker or a radio, you don't unplug it, right? we have ours in a safe and dry place without worring,

    - to avoid the water to overflow... just use less water! It does have marks for it, but I never used them. You should know that if you use a big and full bottle you'll need less water then if you put there a smaller bottle. After using it for a while, you'll know how much water it needs without worring. And we don't use new water with every bottle, it stays there for longer. It's your choice when change it,

    - there's always a new, full bottle in the warmer, so it's always warm and ready for a hungry baby :). If your baby doesn't drink it all... no problem... just put it back and it'll wait there for the next time,

    - the warmer has 3 settings of warming. Ours is always set to 1, and that's the perfect temperature. You'll never have to worry about overheating the bottle. We only use the other two when we need something to heat right away, or when we're leaving and we need a bottle to be very warm so it doesn't get cold with the weather so quickly,

    - and as for the specific times to heat something... well, you can't always rely on the instructions. Those times are approximate, and you should check the bottle to know when it's ready for your baby. But, as I said, if you leave it always on 1 and the bottle is all the time inside... you will get a perfect temperature even if you wait more time (there is absolutely now danger of overheating)

Well, I think I said everything I could about it. As you can see, there's a solution for pretty much every problem you can think of. We are really very satisfied with this product and it's one of those things you need no matter what, specially since you can't microwave the formula. And now, we also use it with baby food and it also heats the jars perfectly, although you might want to put them in some time before you need it so you don't have to wait later. Level 1 works fine for that too but if you're really in a hurry you'll need a higher level, but then you'll have to check on it once in a while because you might overheat them on those levels.

I hope this review helps you out a bit, and remember to keep the box so if you're not satisfied with it after all, you can return it and get another one that works better for you :).

P.S. This warmer works with all bottles not just Avent, although Avent bottles have the height just right for this and other bottles would be much higher but they would still get warm fine. If you haven't decided yet what bottles will you use, you can see my review on Avent's 9oz set of three bottles :).

  • We love it
    By AZK9CCTYQNRNL on 2003-02-13
We've always used the microwave (most of the time) or a jug of hot water (when a mircowave wasn't available) to warm our first two children's bottles of formula - this worked fine for us as we knew the exact time to make the bottle just right.

Unfortunately my third child had to spend some time in hospital when he was two weeks old. What we learned from his nurses is that microwaves can 'zap' a lot of goodness out of your formula (the hosptial used a microwave as well until they were told this). We also learned that the prescription only formula he now has to have tastes digusting when not kept very warm.

Hence our decision to purchase the Avent bottle warmer. What we like about it is that it is easy to re-warm our bottles during a feed when the need arises and keeps all the goodness in the formula. The lack of an on/off switch is a bit annoying but we just turn it off at the plug. The fact that the light goes on and off as it's keeping the water at a constant temperature is also a bit of a pain as at 2am in a dimly lit kitchen you can just assume you already turned off the plug when you haven't if the light is out.

Despite these negatives things, they far outweigh the advantages for us of keeping our son's formula nice and warm. It's easy to use, easy to keep clean and has worked pefectly from the day we bought it.

    We love it.

  • Not perfect but it works
    By on 2003-08-05
I've been using this warmer since my 4mo old was born and I think it's pretty good. I have it down to a science (using Dr Brown's bottles)... 6 minutes for short 8 oz bottles and 7 min for tall 9oz bottles (using refrigerated formula or breastmilk). Shake the bottle before feeding to avoid hot spots. The one thing I really do find annoying is the lack of on/off switch. What I have done is left it plugged in with the knob down to the lowest setting. Not an ideal solution but it beats trying to find the outlet at 3am! Also the cord is way too short. Overall it does the job

  • I HAVE A CHEAP WAY TO DO THIS
    By on 2003-12-19
I CANNOT BELIEVE PEOPLE BUY SUCH A GADGET! I ALSO HAVE THE ADVENT BOTTLES AND MANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS...SO FAR SO GOOD. I HAVE NO COMPLAINS. WHEN MY BABY WANTS HER BOTTLE, I STICK A WATER FILLED MICROWABLE BOWL(NARROW AND A LITTLE TALL)IN THE MICRO ON HIGH FOR A MINUTE.
I REMOVE MY BOWL, NOW WITH BOILING WATER AND PLACE BABY BOTTLE. I HAVE THIS DOWN TO A SCIENCE. I WAIT 2 MINUTES AND WE ARE DONE.
THIS ITEM DOES JUST THAT, WHY SPEND SPACE ON COUNTER TO HOUSE THIS UNIT?????

  • Good but not great.
    By A4VSZT8JX36XR on 2005-08-14
I have bought several bottle food warmers trying to get the right chemical composition of convenience and adequate warming without scalding. It is largely a mixed bag with all the warmers. I have yet to find one that does it all.

The perfect warmer would have a temperature probe, an on/off switch, shut off automatically, chime when finished, have clear directions, fit all size bottles and work correctly 99% of the time. Sadly except for the tempurature probe, the above features are not found in any one warmer but several. The temperature probe was my idea, but a good one I think.

This warmer is about twenty dollars more than any other on the market, but I don't believe you get twenty dollars of bang for your bucks. The newer models and the one I have does have an on/off switch, so if you were to buy it today you will have one. The problem with all warmers, this one included, is the amount of water needed. It is fairly difficult to get a consistent bottle temp. You will get it perfect one time, and then the next you have to run it under the cold tap for two minutes to get it back to the right temp. The instructions across all of them are poor at best.

This warmer does a decent job if you make sure to pull out that bottle in five minutes, for refridgerated milk. If you don't you will be trying to cool it down. It would be nice if it had auto shut off, or a chime. This warmer soaks the bottle in water that doesn't boil but warms it slowly.

The long and short of it comes down to features that are important to you, because no one warmer (at least at this writing) seems to do it all. Here is a list of features of the popular models:

Avent - Uses warm water, largest opening, fits all bottles, has switch, no auto shut off, no chime, approx. five min. heat time. $40.00

Dex - Similar to the Avent, but it does have a chime when finished heating, fairly consistent heating, approx. five min. heat time, bottle opening is smaller than Avent so disposables Avent bottles do not fit well, all others are fine. $18.00

First Years - Uses steam, heats faster than other models - approx. 3 min., difficult to get appropriate water level, inconsistent heating, has an auto shut off when finished heating, fits all bottle sizes. $25.00

Phillips makes one as well but I refuse to buy yet another one. I find myself using the Dex version the most because it is similar to the Avent, I rarely use disposable bottles, I like the chime feature, it is very consistent, and costs less than all the others. Hope this helps, happy warming.

  • Avent fan except for warmer!!
    By A3T3EVUQZ6T67J on 2001-07-02
I LOVE the Avent bottles, liners, nipples and steriler but the bottle warmer concerned me because the 3 levels all seemed to warm the same, there was no timer to tell how long bottle had been in (my milk got way too hot) and the advertised 4 minutes for heat up time is not necessarily accurate according to the instruction manual. This is the only Avent product that I have used that I am totally disappointed in and that I have returned to the store.

  • WHEN HUNGER STRIKES
    By A3C1V0P3A4OK8K on 2001-08-23
I REGISTERED FOR THE EXPRESS BABY BOTTLE/FOOD WARMER AND IT IS A LIFE SAVER. NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT ALSO FOR THE BABY AND FOR THOSE DADS THAT SOMETIMES AREN'T SURE IF THE BOTTLE IS JUST TOO HOT. WHEN I FIRST TRIED THE BOTTLE WARMER AND SAW HOW JUST RIGHT IT CAN HEAT UP THE BOTTLE I SAID "WOW". (ESPECIALLY, WHEN YOU NEED TO GET UP FOR THOSE MID NIGHT FEEDINGS.) WHAT MY SUGGESTION IS FOR THOSE MOTHERS WHO HAVE BABIES THAT WILL JUST SCREAM AWAY IF THAT BOTTLE IS NOT READY WHEN THEY ARE - IS GET THE AVENT BOTTLE WARMER. THIS IS MY ROUTINE. I PREPARE ALL BOTTLES IN THE MORNING AND PUT THEM IN THE REFRIGERATOR. I PUT ONE IN THE WARMER WHEN I GET UP IN THE AM - WHEN BABY GETS UP THE BOTTLE IS READY. I FEED THE BABY, BURP AND PUT HER TO SLEEP OR REST. BY THAT TIME ITS ALREADY PAST AN HOUR. IF YOUR BABY NEEDS TO BE FED LIKE MINE EVERY TWO HOURS - YOU PUT THE NEXT BOTTLE IN AS SOON AS YOU LAY THAT BABY DOWN. AND WHEN THE NEXT FEEDING TIME COMES AROUND THAT BOTTLE IS JUST PERFECT. ANOTHER SUGGESTION, WHEN GOING OUT HEAT THE BOTTLE AT THE NEXT LEVEL THAN YOU NORMALLY FEED THE BABY AND BY THE TIME THE BABY NEEDS A BOTTLE - IT IS JUST RIGHT. (THAT IS CONSIDERING YOU FEED THE BABY BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE AND ARE TAKING AN EXTRA BOTTLE).

  • Good product
    By on 2002-11-06
OK, at first glance this product seemed like something I might regret. The lack of an on/off button and no timer or automatic shut-off made this seem like a product I would come to hate. However, I'm sure there is no on/off button as this is an electrical appliance that also uses water. For safety reasons it is much better to unplug it, however slightly inconvenient that may be. Also, the lack of a timer or automatic shut-off would be irritating as this warmer warms a variety of sizes of bottles and baby food, each requiring a different amount of time. I would be more annoyed if I waited for the timer to find that it was either too hot or still too cold. So, though a warmer with a brain would be ideal, this one is pretty darn good. The instructions state the exact amount of time required for different size bottles (disposable and non-disposable) and for jars of baby food. I keep mine on the kitchen counter, put in the bottle, fill with water, plug in, set a kitchen timer accordingly -- and walah! I have a perfectly warmed bottle. As far as I'm concerned it does what it says and is much safer than the guesswork of trying to warm in a microwave (risking hot spots) or the long wait of warming on the stove (which I always managed to overheat anyway). Don't know how it works with non-Avent bottles, but I love it and am so glad to have it!

  • Do not purchase
    By on 2001-07-13
I purchased this product and ended up throwing it in the closet rather than the garbage. It is basicalled hot water in a cup and the bottle floats. Read the online reviews prior to purchasing products, so many experienced Moms have saved me time and money with their reviews-thanks to them!

  • works for me!
    By A17BDBZWSI3DGC on 2003-06-09
This bottle warmer is great! It's compact, very easy to use, and heats the bottles very quickly -- actually in less time than the 4-6 minutes that Avent lists. Another big plus is that it's the only bottle warmer I've found that can be used with disposable bottles. I used to warm bottles in hot tap water, but that takes so long -- first to get the water hot enough and then to wait for the bottle to heat up. This bottle warmer does the job very quickly. The only improvement I would make to this product is an automatic shut off after maybe 6-8 minutes to prevent overheating. It's another great product from Avent!

  • Very Disappointing
    By on 2002-06-30
I really like all of the Advent products....except this one! I did not do my homework and check reviews prior to purchasing this item and was sorely disappointed. I liked the warmer because it was compact and fit the Advent bottles and even though it was more expensive that the others I was 'sold' on it because it was made by Advent. However, I returned this product and would not recommend it to anyone unless the following items were perfected:

    1) The thermostat in the warmer is very inconsistant, so you cannot rely on the specific times listed in the manual for the bottle to be at the right temperature (sometimes too cold and sometimes too hot) -- which can seem like a lifetime when your baby is crying.

    2) The markings for the water level are not that easy to see (especially in the middle of the night).

    3) There is no timer so you need to keep track of how long the bottle is in the warmer (I used a kitchen timer to help me out here).

    4) And, the MOST inconvenient feature of all....You must unplug the unit after each use. This is a real hassle and a safety issue if you forget or if the plug gets wet while on the counter. And, if your outlets are hard to reach like mine you wind-up pulling on the cord to get it out.

All in all - Advent is a great company and makes a great product...this however is not one of them.

  • Nice Product
    By A2ZIY5DMO3WG44 on 2006-06-05
After reading some of the reviews I felt compelled to share my experience with this product. I love it! I'm not sure if they made a different model before, but mine has an on/off switch that works just fine (its on the back). Its not rocket science if you follow the directions. I never have problems with the bottle floating. If you put the bottle in first and then fill the warmer with water like the directions tell you to, then the bottle won't float. The warmer itself has a chart on it that tells you how long to leave the bottle in the warmer and at what setting. It also has a light that flashes on and off when the warmer has reached a constant temperature. There are no "dings" or timers, but that hasn't presented any problems for me. Overall this product does what it is supposed to do and it does it well. As a first time mom, I highly recommend it.

  • I like Avent Products, All except this warmer
    By AQ4FAJ85A4XNI on 2001-08-17
I received this warmer as a gift and had to return it. The warming of bottles was very inconsistent, there was no way to accurately measure the amount of water needed for each bottle and you had to unplug it each time you used it. There are other great warmers that have pre-measured water holders that allow for hassle-free bottle warming. Avent has great products however they need to work on this product.

  • Overheats most of the time
    By A1LZQ9IJA4XNAO on 2003-10-07
The lack of an on/off switch is not a big deal. This bottle warmer has a light that goes on and stays on till it reaches a certain temperature then goes off, then on again when it starts cooling down. This allows it to maintain a constant temperature. What bothered me is that after it heats the bottle and the light goes off I would expect the milk to stay at a constant temperature and not to continue overheating...and it overheated everytime. I could not change the baby and leave the milk in it for an extra minute or 2 or it would get way too hot. Now on power level number 2 it was pretty much the same thing it just took longer to heat and with a crying baby every minute seems like forever. Number 1 is way too weak unless you let the milk sit there and know you will use it in a half hour then it is just warm. I returned mine and switched to powder formula and use sterilized room temperature water. No warming, no headaches and my baby loves it.

  • Inconvenient features
    By AJC2OHTESJT6W on 2005-01-18
    Yes, it warms your bottles.

But not without some inconvenient flaws. Although a later model has an on/off switch, if you don't shut if off, even when the light indicating your bottle blinks off...the heating unit doesn't. Which means you have be on your toes to remove it or your bottle become too hot, and the milk will rise up and start to leak out of the screw cap into your water in the unit. Is it my bottles? I have Dr. Browns and Avent.

The light will switch on and off for the different bottle sizes at timed intervals. Meanwhile the unit keeps heating and will continue to do so until you turn it off. So you really have to be watching it.

Also, it's inconvenient to have water in the unit. Once you're done, you could opt to leave it in there (it gets yucky and white with milk as the aforementioned problem occurs...), or you have to pour it out each time. Yes, the unit is small and light, but it's not a convenient "pourer," especially with the cord and the removeable basket.

Finally, while maybe there is a line that shows you where to fill the water to, there is no accessory to easily pour the correct amount of water into the unit...use your cups, glasses, etc. But it's still one more step each and every time you warm a bottle.

Did I mention that, yes, you can warm baby food in it...but use a pair of tongs to get it out.

My husband and I used this unit for 6 months until we discovered the "First Years" model at my sister-in-laws house. Not only does it stop heating when the bottle is done and therefore shuts off automatically, it has a measuring device attached to the warmer to dispense water into it, and then it uses steam to warm the bottle so the water is completely gone when it's done. It also warms baby food jars, but it has a convenient over-the-edge hook-on basket so you don't have to worry about lifting it out with your hands (or tongs). This model needs some trial and error to get it to the right temperature (the directions are right for the most part, but will differ with respect to the bottle having been refrigerated, etc.)...but once you figure it out, you're set. And at half the price, I wish we had found it first.

In my opinion, Avent does many things right but not on this product.

  • Not that Complicated!
    By A2YMV4BZJ5UDYX on 2005-02-08
I love this bottle warmer. Yes it is true that it does not have a timer mechanism (which would be nice) however, it is so quick to heat up a bottle (4-7 minutes) that it is just not that big of a deal. I just use the timer on my stove to let me know when it is ready! Pay attention to the time guidelines however, because the bottle will get too hot if left in too long. I do not use Avent bottles, and it works great. You get a very even warm bottle. There is an on/off switch in the back, so you do not have to plug/unplug every time you use it as some reviewers claimed.

  • I think this is the best warmer even though......
    By on 2002-11-14
I think this is the best warmer in the market even though it doesn't has an on/off switch as the other people said. I used another kind of warmer that require to pour a little amount of water into a holder and it just steam up the bottle. However, it only either over-heat or under-heat the milk. Also, it could be used with a certain kind of bottles only. However, the Avent bottle warmer can hold any kind of bottles. (I have tried that with Avent 4oz and 9 oz bottles, the angled bottles, and the disposable ones. They were all warmed up very well.) Also, you can figure out how much time you need to warm up the bottle by reading the number of times that the indicator has turned on and off in different setting. For example, when I warm up a disposable bottle with 5 oz formula in it. I turn the warmer to the middle setting and wait until the light turn on and off twice. The bottle will be warm up evenly and ready to feed. Then I don't need to consistently taking the bottle out of the warmer and feel if the formula has been warm enough. This is totally a personal experience and I think as long as you have used it for a while, you will be able to master this skill too.

  • Consider this product!
    By on 2004-01-25
I find this an invaluable piece of equipment. Yes, I could put bottles in the microwave, but frankly, I have a harder time trying to gauge appropriate length of time for different bottle sizes and different formulas when using the microwave. This product works quickly especially for those early am feedings. I keep it in the nursery and put the bottle in when the baby first cries. By the time I am done diapering, the bottle is warm. One note: you will NEVER need setting 3, so don't even use it.

The instructions tell you how much water to use for 4 oz and 9 oz. bottles. If you are using smaller bottles, add enough water to cover the milk in the bottle. The only downside is the size makes it difficult to heat more than one bottle at the same time. A minor problem for parents of multiples.

I am not sure what some of the other reviewers are talking about when they say you have to unplug the warmer to turn it off. Perhaps I purchased a newer model, but there is an on/off switch at the back of the unit. My suggestion to those folks is to LOOK at the product or read the manual...

  • No Auto Shut Off is a Joke
    By A31OPZRK03Y4UW on 2005-01-20
While the warmer works ok on its primary mission of heating the bottle, there are two features that should be included:

    1. Auto shut off.
    2. There should be a light that indicates if it is on or off. I do not mean the heating element light.

  • Quick and Easy
    By on 2002-03-22
I must admit initially, my husband got to use the bottle warmer more than me. He was getting up to do the night time feedings, while I breastfed during the day. However, now that we are starting to eat cereal, I use it to warm up the breastmilk and it is quick and easy. Yes, it does not have on on/off switch, but it is so simple to use. The milk warms to a the correct temperature, fast. Worth the money.

  • Not a good product
    By A29IRJOO351GVU on 2003-03-03
This is the only Avent product that is a big letdown. It has no on/off switch which is a huge design flaw. I have to unplug after each use. I must REMEBER TO UNPLUG otherwise it is a fire hazard. Who needs to worry about 1 more thing while your baby is crying?
