Great Mount but the stick-on mounting is marginal By A3REK3OFONWB1Q on 2007-06-22
The part of this bracket that holds the GPS is terrific. But the stick-on base is a joke. If you have treated your mounting surface previously with any kind of cleaner, polish, or wax, you will find it nearly impossible to mount this bracket. They supply cleaner and instructions, and on brand new surfaces I suspect it works better. But beware, this thing will let your nice GPS go flying just when you can't afford it to...
Buy the garmin Marine Mount for your GPSMap 76, drill a couple holes and hard-mount the unit - you won't regret it. Alternatively, look at the various RAM mounts made for the GPSMap 76 series - they too have hard mount solutions that will secure your unit as it deserves to be.
Garmin Automotive Mount for Garmin GPS 72 and GPS 76 By A25J4LKSVX6COA on 2005-10-12
This unit was a great purchase. I am able to drive down the road and keep an eye on the GPS. The GPS unit is very tall so make sure you install the the base unit is far enough away so it is not a distraction yet close enough to see the screen. The base comes with two types of mounting pads. One is permanent, the other is movable. The moveable pad is like 'Fun Tack', the area and the mounting pad must be warm enough for it to stick. Do Not 'Armor All' the surface as it will not stick. I have moved the pad about six times and now I have to use velcrow. I also use this on my boat.
It works By A1KGUGW5M4ECEM on 2005-10-14
Works as advertised. I mounted it so that the GPS was in good view.It can be adjusted and positioned any way that suits the user.Easy to slip GPS in and out even when using the Cigarette lighter adapter.
Auto mount By A29653RZ9AM56K on 2005-10-23
This mount works very good. The only lack is it only adjusts back and forth and the base rotates. I had trouble mounting it in the car so it set upright.
Works great with Garmin 76 By A2DVWJJEKYKD7D on 2007-01-05
I bought the auto mount to use with my Garmin 76. I have it attached to my vertical dashboard with the removable adhesive and it works just fine. It holds the Garmin securely and the notch in the back allows the auto charger to be plugged in to the Garmin so the Garmin can run with the backlight on and not run down the batteries.
- Works great

I have been using this mount for almost a year and I love it!!!!
However........ The previous review is correct -- the sticky stuff Garmin provides for the dashboard needs to be tossed out with the packaging. Don't even bother with it.. throw it away.
I have mine attached to my dashboard with two large "3M Command Strips" and that works GREAT!!! I have had no problem at all since I switched over to the 3M strips which are available almost everywhere. If you can't find a package of the large strips, the medium ones work too, but you need to use three of them.
(plus - 3M strips won't leave a mark on the dashboard if you decide to mount your GPS in a friend's car for the day)
This last time I moved the mount in my van with the 3M strips was over 3 months ago and it is still holding strong with no slipping at all.... try it!!!
I love the veratility of this mount. Much better than the old "stick to the windshield" type I used before. I can get it to any angle I want to avoid glare or to make it easier to read. I also love the fact that it is easy to get the GPS in and out in a hurry if you are taking it with you.. you don't have to fumble around and take the mount apart just to get your unit out.
This mount is quite sturdy, easy to adjust and does the job well.... nice!
- Usability depends a lot on the car
     By A3TP75REVDI24V on 2006-09-28
The other three reviewers must be driving 1960's trucks or something. On a sedan you'll be *very* hard pressed to find a proper surface to attach this to.
Mind you, it only has two degrees of freedom, and in the vertical one it only rotates 180 degrees or so. This is a major problem. Unless you have a vertical windshield, forget about attaching your gps to it. You'd only be able to rotate the gps screen downwards, so you won't be able to read it!
The only alternative is to attach it to a horizontal surface. Good luck finding one. Garmin does a good job explaining what NOT to attach it to (air bags etc.), but there's hardly anything suitable left.
Also, the sticky base needs a perfectly flat surface to attach to. Hard to find one in a modern car. In my Protege I attached it next to the base of stick. This puts my gps pretty much out of sight. I need look down whenever I get a beep from my 76 to read what turn I need to do next.
- Garmin Automotive Mount for Garmin GPS 72 and GPS 76
     By A115US3FJ6ECQZ on 2007-01-12
This product works great! hold GPS firmly and securely to the dashboard, even traveling off road! It adjusts well for viewing by anyone in the vehicle. The dashboard in my van is very flat, which I think helps in how well this product works.
Amazon however was very disappointing, the web site claimed it was in stock and would ship within 24-48 hours, it did not ship for over two (2) weeks!
- Adequate for me
     By AYYWF79L88QSD on 2007-03-31
Not as adjustable as the etrex mount, but works for me. It has the same base as the etrex mount, in fact - I didn't have to peel off the etrex base to snap in the holder for my 76Csx; just popped the etrex one out, gpsmap one going in.
Kind of pricey for what you get, but if you want/need one, you don't have many manufacturers (2) that makes a mount. A RAM mount would be an alternative, but I couldn't tell if they had temporary adhesive disks like garmin. So I went with Garmin.
- HELD UP OVER VERY ROUGH GRAVEL MOUNTAIN ROADS
     By A2VWACU4V5IA9F on 2007-12-07
I USED THE TEMPORARY ADHESIVE PATCH ON MY DASHBOARD. I HAVE TRAVELED OVER GRAVEL MOUNTAIN BACK ROADS AT 5-15MPH WITH AN F250 4X4, WHICH HAS A PRETTY STIFF RIDE. THE 76S DID ALOT OF VIBRATING, BUT NEVER LOST IT'S LOCKED IN POSITION ON THE MOUNT. SEEMS TO WORK PRETTY WELL FOR THE MONTH THAT I HAVE HAD IT.
- great gps holder
     By A10FO1MMH4X5U on 2008-06-01
I hardly ever used the GPS in my vehicle until I bought this, great addition, holds well and use it almost daily, no complaints, easy removal of GPS as well easy install, definatly worth the small investment
- Rugged and Dependable
     By AF7OS6KSU4T7R on 2008-08-23
I've been using this mount in my car for almost a year now and it has held up well. I like the fact the holder comes off the base so it can be used in other vehicles with other bases. I use it on a beanbag style base in my wifes van and that setup works good too.
The reason the mount only gets four stars from me is the fact that it is difficult, and sometimes takes two hands, to put the GPS in and to remove it when using the cigarette plug power cord.
- item is flimsy, likely won't hold up over time
     By A17TVQPLY3IKC on 2008-08-30
item fits all sizes of iPods, but it uses an adjustable arm to do so, which does not look like it will survive extended usage. The item doesn't even work, anyway. No charge, no radio transmission. Fresh out of the box too. We are looking into our car charger to more fully explore the nature of the problem, but had i known about the "adjustability" factor earlier, i wouldn't have bought this item.
- Garmin Swiveling Automotive Mount for the GPS 76CSX
     By A3FKJIZ9FAI76M on 2008-08-31
This unit is a very basic one that mounts on the dash or else where by adhesive patch. One patch is supposed to be a temperary one and that works just like junk. If it gets very hot in the car the whole thing comes down. I had to the resort to the permanent mount which I really didn't want to do. But that work just fine and was just used on a 2500 mile trip tp Yellowstone NP. I would not purchase another one like this, even though it did the job. Under other conditions it probably would have been just right for the job.
- not as sturdy as I expected it to be
     By A9K24IA86VTLN on 2008-09-17
If I had seen the product first hand, I would not have bought it at all. I do most of my driving on back country roads with lots of potholes and I dont feel that my Garmin 72 is really secured in it's mount because of all it's weight pivoting on that small piece of plastic. Maybe for $10 I'll consider buying it again.
