Cuddle up to this cute companion anytime. Night and day, this adorable amphibian is a favorite among little ones. Play soothing classical music at naptime or bedtime. During playtime, play songs and learning games that engage young minds for hours. Press the moon on Tad's hand to program up to six minutes of classical music from Mozart, Beethoven and more. Or press the sun on Tad's other hand to hear six fun songs. The flashing lights on Tad's stomach help children learn shapes and colors. Push Tad's cheek for a fun and friendly "I love you" kiss. Tad is soft and huggable with a washable surface. Measures approximately 12 inches tall. Requires 3 "AA" alkaline batteries (included).

Baby Tad is a wonderful interactive toy that makes early learning fun and easy. Baby Tad (short for tadpole) helps your preschooler learn shapes, colors, activities, and songs. When your little one presses a colored light-up button, Tad identifies the color and shape indicated on the button. With his cheerful demeanor and infectious laugh, Tad offers support and encouragement and will quickly become a close and trusted friend. Besides various greetings, a squeeze of Tad's hand brings forth favorite children's songs, sung in a squeaky, high-pitched voice. --Alison Golder MPN: 2072010002 - UPC: 708431100022

  • Adorable - Great Crib Toy

    By A2GQ6ORWXGIGS6 on 2003-11-10
Baby Tad is just adorable. My 13 month old just loves him. We use him as a crib toy.

I really like the 6 minutes of nightime music - puts my son right to sleep.

This toy keeps my son occupied for quite a long time in the mornings when he wakes up.

It also has a voice control switch - IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT!

    Baby Tad is worth buying.

  • Broke after only 2 months of use & no volume control

    By on 2000-05-16
My 18 month old daughter received Tad as a Christmas present and by February he was totally broken. She loved to squeeze his hand to hear the songs but the toy just wasn't durable enough to withstand constant activation by an eager toddler. Another shortcoming was the lack of a volume control. His singing doesn't seem that loud at first but my daughter sometimes wanted to take him to bed with her and his singing is way too loud for bedtime. It was also very easy for her to access the battery compartment -- there is a velcro strip down his back and she thought she could take off his outfit. The toy just isn't designed for active, curious and determined kids (and what toddler isn't active, curious and determined).

  • Who couldn't love Baby Tad?

    By A11X9HWN09P7MC on 2005-12-07
I bought this for my son before he was even born and now at 21 months he still loves it as much as when I first gave it to him. My son is very interested in music and really can't get enough. Baby Tad plays all his favorite songs and has helped to teach him his colors and shapes as well. Each time one of "his songs" plays, he looks at Tad and then at me with this huge smile and big laugh to say "he knows MY song"! It's a great all around toy that will not only bring lots of laughs and giggles to your little munchkin but also teach them new skills! I also LOVE that I've never had to change the Batteries from the ones it came with - finally a toy that is NOT a battery hog!

  • I can't believe how much kids like this toy!

    By on 1999-11-14
I am a speech-language pathologist and provide early intervention services for families and children (birth to three). I first saw this toy in a family's home and was amazed when I observed the child's interaction with the toy. She smiled, vocalized and danced while holding it. Very much fun and I will recommend Tad to other families I work with.

  • Love Baby TAD!!!!

    By on 2003-11-04
We bought baby Tad for our sons first Christmas last year because of all the neat features it has for a battery operated toy. Tad stays in his crib and is used for nap time and bed time. We use the lullaby feature the most. And when our son wakes up in the morning, he plays with Tad until hes ready to get up. This allows us a few extra minutes in the morning. I dont know what we would do without Baby Tad. We love Baby Tad so much that we are buying one for our newborn son for his first Christmas this year.

  • The toy gets tiresome
    By on 2000-11-15
Baby Tad is cute as can be...for awhile. My 13 month old has had Baby Tad since he was about 6 months old. He does love the music, especially Itsy Bitsy Spider, but he has no tolerance for pushing the shapes to get the music to play. Also, Baby Tad is pretty loud...forget about listening to yourself think while he's on. Finally, Baby Tad ran low on battery fuel this past week and wouldn't shut off at all...of course, you need a philips head screwdriver to get the batteries out...this happened at 7 in the morning, waking the 13 month old from sleep. Baby Tad is not on my happy list at the moment! To its credit, though, it is awfully cute and the songs should be very familiar to everyone.

  • Loved by all
    By A2BQXGDDD6K3XR on 2003-05-22
My baby girl has loved "Baby Tad" since she was three months old. As an infant they love to watch the lights and listen to the sweet songs it plays. Baby Tad has the sweetest voice and cutest face, which both appeal to baby. Whenever baby is fussy, when I bring out Baby Tad, she just smiles and hugs him. My little one is now almost eight months old and this is one of her favorite toys. When my 2 1/2 year old neice comes over, she goes right for Baby Tad and carries him around the house all day. She too loves the lights and music but also learns the colors and shapes that Baby Tad teaches. It is a great toy and learning tool and I am buying it for all of my parent-to-be friends.

  • Baby Tad is the Best!
    By A35ZJN949B8G8I on 2003-06-02
My niece is now 7 months old, and absolutely adores Baby Tad. His buttons are easy to push, he's very stimulating, educational, and durable. The baby loves watching the different shapes light up, and enjoys Tad's songs. Her face lights up when she sees him. He is very easy to clean, too. He is by far her favorite toy, and I would highly recommend Baby Tad.

    By A2MIBHZT1PIZY3 on 2000-10-25
My daughter loved this toy. It sings 5 different songs which she learned on her own. This help to develop her memory and speach. The color and shapes are attractive to any young eye becuase they light up and catches their attention. Its has been everywhere with us so its definitely durable. This toy is very enjoyable to my family as a whole. I even sing the songs myself. Very good for children one and older.

  • Baby Tad is the best!

My daughter recieved Baby Tad when she was 11 months old. She absolutely loves him. Baby Tad plays songs and tells colors in the daytime. Then at night you can play music for up to 6 minutes. This is a good learning toy for baby. Baby Tad has went everywhere with us from a car ride to a plane ride. He tells the child that he loves them. My daughter loves to give hugs and kisses to Baby Tad. I would recommend it anyone with a toddler. It truly is a life saver at times when your child will get fussy. We love our Baby Tad!

  • Baby Tad is a must for every child!
    By A1UIHD2I0TMV5Y on 2001-12-13
Completely irresistable!!! He is the cutest little guy with a tiny "baby" voice! This is great for young ones at 6 or 9 months to 3 years (or maybe beyond)! He is very soft and cuddly. I bought him for our 19 month old Grandson. He loves the colored blinking lights in the shape of a star, square, circle, triangle, diamond and heart. When you push a flashing button, Baby Tad sings or says something like "peekaboo" or "this is a green square". There is a lip print on his cheek. When you push it, Baby Tad says "give me a hug". Baby Tad sings in his cute "baby" voice six favorite children's songs like Itsy Bitsy Spider, Mary Had a Little Lamb, If You are Happy Clap Your Hands. He will keep kids learning and having fun for hours! And there is a button to turn him OFF; a blessing for parents! A great baby shower gift! I am giving the Spanish version Baby Tad to a billingual friend as a baby shower gift!

  • One Year Old loves it!
    By AN41DPPAKES2S on 2001-11-17
Bought this for my child's first birthday. He loves the songs/lullabies and the flashing lights. Helps children recognize shapes and colors and speaks to them. The volume has two different adjustable settings. It's a nice, educational, soft plush toy and I think Tad's cute. I love LEAP FROG products.

  • A must have for new parents!
    By on 2003-12-25
I bought Baby Tad for my son when he was just a few weeks old. We could not decide which mobile to buy for his crib, so we bought Tad instead. He's been lulling our little prince to sleep ever since. (11 Months) The daytime mode is great. I especially appreciate that the songs are sung by a child-like voice. Many toys on the market now speak or sing in grown-up or "computer" voices. Leap Frog did a great job in recognizing that children respond to and are soothed by other children's voices. We get most use out of the night time classical lullabies. The sound quality is amazing. It's soft, relaxing, soothing music. The lights on Tad's bib light up individually in time with the syphonies. It's very soothing; especially in a darkened nursery.

One thing I wanted to point out was the battery life. Don't buy the cheap batteries. Go ahead and buy the good ones. Tad lasts a long time with the good ones; not so long with the cheapies. The good ones lasted us over 4 months this last time with everyday use. The cheapies last a couple of weeks, and make Tad work irratically when the batteries get low.

In short, buying Tad for my son was money well spent.

  • Tad goes everywhere with us!
    By A1MQROQZT0O1OR on 2000-12-02
We bought Baby Tad for our daughter when she was only 3 months old. She loved seeing the bright shapes light up on Tad's tummy and hearing the songs. Tad has gone everywhere we go for the past 9 months. We never leave the house without him. He keeps her entertained while riding in the car. Her first birthday theme (in 2 weeks) will be Baby Tad. Only problem we've had is two buttons fail to work now -- the lips on Tad's face no longer kiss and say "I love you", and the blue square bottom does not light up to indicate this is the button to push to hear the song. She knows the lips used to "do something" and continues to take my finger to his face to make it work. Now I have to make the kissing sound and say "I love you" several times before she gives us! He's a cutie! I think she'll be getting a replacement Tad from Santa.

  • an enduring favorite
    By ADX1FG2VSCYVF on 2003-02-23
Baby Tad is one of my 11 month old daughter's favorite toys, and has been since she got it at around 5 months. She has several interactive musical toys that light up, but baby Tad is the only one that she can cuddle and lay on. She still needs a little help sometimes with the sing along, interactive mode (pushing the small buttons within the time limit takes some coordination), but there is also an instrumental, "nighttime" mode that I can initiate for her to watch and listen to alone for up to six minutes. His voice is sweet, not irritating, and he also has enough variation in songs to keep him from driving parents crazy. She loves this toy so much I took him on the plane with us for a 14 hour flight to visit family, and was VERY glad I did. He was the only thing that soothed her for long stretches of time and kept me and the rest of the passengers sane, and his volume control let me adjust him so no one could hear the music but us.

I only have 2 complaints about this toy.

    1. He can only be surface washed, though he seems to come clean relatively easily.
    2. He cannot be completely turned off without removing the batteries, which is a chore. This means that if any button on him is touched at any time, he starts singing. You can press his foot to shut him off, but he'll keep getting reactivated. This is rarely a problem, though I do have an amusing memory of my 6' 3" husband walking though the airport carrying a duffel bag that was merrily singing "If you're happy and you know it."

Leap Frog toys are really some of the best on the market, though my sister's kids have the alphabet version of this toy, and we both agree that Baby Tad is much better. I would definitely recommend this toy, or give it as a gift.

  • Keeps him entertained
    By on 2001-11-14
This toy is great entertainment for my 5 month old. I have one complaint, however, it is a little too loud for the baby and there is no way to adjust the volume.

  • Mom of special needs toddler - Her FAVE toy!
    By on 2002-11-01
My daughter, who is developmentally delayed (micropreemie), received this toy on her second birthday 8 months ago. It is by far her favorite toy! I love it, too! Her 4 year old brother has fun, also! The sound quality and voice clarity are great! At first, she could not figure it out, but quickly learned how to squeeze the hands to make it work. She then quickly progressed to learning to do the left hand for nursery rhymes (Tad actually sings them...not just music like many other toys) and the right hand for classical (which is on a great timer!) Just recently she learned to "search" for Brahm's lullaby to be the first song played. I swear her first words will be "Hi! I'm Baby Tad!" =) I was very excited this past month when she learned to push the button on his chest that was flashing and hear the color and shape.

About 6 weeks ago the right hand stopped working. I called Leap Frog and they had me mail Tad in. I received a new one, even though the warrenty period was over several months ago. It was hard to part with Tad while he was at the "hospital". The toy is super for the car! And don't miss the volume button inside....'cuz he's VERY loud on the high setting!

Overall, this is a great toy! I think my daughter just wore his right hand switch out.

  • He's cute and fun but we think he's possessed
    By A1QIYEB18RW6DU on 2003-01-04
I bought Baby Tad for my 4 month old because he likes music and lights. He loves watching the dancing lights, singing the songs and listening to the classical music...however, Baby Tad is possessed! At night, when no one is in the living room, he'll start to talk and play music. He'll play for a little while, stop for an hour or so and then play again. Actually, I think it's a wiring problem in his right arm because if we "tweek" it just right he stays quiet. For Christmas my girlfriend bought us the Learning Table by Leap Frog and it has started doing the same thing...Overall, if you aren't superstitious, Baby Tad is a great learning toy for your little one!

  • What a great toy!
    By on 2002-11-11
My son received Baby Tad last Christmas when he was 7 months old and he loved it even then but as he has gotten older and learned how to push the shapes that light up, it's an even bigger hit! The night time mode with a timer is a hit with me because he goes to bed with it every night and usually falls instantly asleep. If not, he will play with Tad for a few minutes then drift off to sleep. When he wakes up in the morning he doesn't fuss to get up immediately but plays with Tad until I can get in his room to get him. We haven't found the buttons hard to push at all. The only trouble we've had with it is that the 'kiss' mode stopped working about 2 months ago and he loved getting his 'kiss' from the frog. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Leap Frog product. As a matter of fact, there are several on my shopping list for Christmas this year!

  • This frog is a prince!
    By on 1999-11-21
I bought two of these Baby Tad learning frogs for my grandsons both just turning one year old. They are for Christmas. They haven't gotten to play with them yet but I have. Baby Tad is very colorful and has a sweet voice. I think the boys will love him. He's great!

  • I had to buy 2 of these!
    By on 2003-11-01
I actually was purchasing this toy for a friend who had just had a baby. My 18 month old daughter went NUTS at the sounds...lights...voice. She especially loved the "kisses" from baby tad. As you can guess, I ended up buying two, one for the gift and one for her. We take it everywhere. Also GREAT at night with the 6 min. of lullabys. I can honestly tell you that if I could buy only one toy this would be it. You can not go wrong with this item!

  • Good toy
    By A1Q1T811N4IY3Z on 2005-03-05
My son got this when he was five months old. He likes watching the flashing lights and listening to the songs.

Baby Tad comes to life when you press the lips on the side of his cheek, any of the six colored shapes on his chest, or one of his hands or a foot. He'll introduce himself and then say his next line. If you pressed one of the shapes on his chest, Baby Tad will say the color and the shape. Each shape has a song associated with it (Twinkle, twinkle little star, Baa baa black sheep, etc.). If you press a shape while the light behind it is flashing, Baby Tad will identify the shape, color and sing the song. While songs are playing, lights flash behind the six shapes, one at a time. Baby Tad's hand which is labled "Daytime" will also play the songs when pressed. The other hand is labled "Nighttime" and plays up to six consecutive minutes of classical music depending on how many time you press the hand. Baby Tad turns himself off after a period of inactivity and the foot is also an off switch.

I have no complaints with this toy, but we also have the Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Puppy which we like better. It has more songs and sounds and it is much easier for my son to press its buttons.

  • Totally wrong concept.
    By A2AV37AKRQZSYY on 2005-11-24
I received this toy FREE, thank God, from Leapfrog due to a minor injury caused by one of their other toys.

My son never liked this toy, but that is not why I am not rating it well. The buttons aren't easy enough for many babies to press, and as I mentioned in another review...

If a child is going to learn colors and shapes, they need to be learned separately because confusion is created. Could you imagine being a small baby and having some toy tell you that the same exact object was "purple" and "circle"? On the other hand, if all of the shapes were the same color, they would differentiate and recognize that each object is different not by color, but by shape. And vice versa.

Another issue is the night-time song. I don't know what parent would want their child in the dark with flashing lights and a loud song to try to get them to sleep. ??????

I am just so disappointed in the toy industry. I am a young stay-at-home mom, and the toys that were around when I was little were very thought provoking. These days, the toys do all of the thinking for our children.

  • Great for the kids, a bit annoying for parents.
    By on 2000-06-23
My daughter got her "Baby Tad" when she was about 11 months old and it has lasted well for almost a year. Tad began misfiring on songs and turning on and off at random, but all it took was fresh batteries to get him back into shape. My daughter loves the songs and sings and dances along. She has also started some of the hand movements (Itsy, Bitsy Spider and Twinkle Star). She likes it so much it was one of the few toys we took on a two week European vacation recently. We haven't had any probelms with our curious toddler getting into the battieries (yet). The easy to operate buttons make it very easy to hear the same song 15 times in a row and it does get a little tiresome for me, but I'm learning to tune him out.The volume can get to be too much for quiet times.

  • One of my sons favorite toys
    By on 2000-12-02
We got Baby Tad for my son when he was 6 months old. He is now 15 months old and it is still one of his favorite toys. He loves the singing and loves to make Baby Tad make the "kiss" sound. He still hasnt figured out he is to push the lighted shapes when they blink, but enjoys the singing nonetheless. He claps and brightens when certain songs play. I can see him playing with this for months to come as he will figure out that he needs to push the shapes and that will add another dimension of play for him.

  • One of my childrens' favorite toys!
    By A8O4WUQ9ZQKT8 on 2001-12-29
My triplets received this toy when they were 10 months old. They are now 17 months old and still play with it daily. They LOVE to push the buttons and hear Baby Tad talk and sing. I even see them hugging him, and laying on the floor with him. It is also very durable. I thought ours was broken because it was playing very erratic, but it just needed new batteries (after several months). The dog has played with this too, and it still works like new. In my opinion, this is a must have. There is educational value, and it is just cute and fun! I can see them playing with this for a while longer, so it is worth the money.

  • baby tad's life span
    By A305LHU9V7AH93 on 2002-03-31
This was a wonderful educational and entertaining toy... until he broke. He now constantly repeats himself and shuts himself (or wont shut off at all). We have had no help from the company, what so ever.

  • Outstanding Toy
    By on 2002-11-22
My mother purchased this toy for my son when he was about 1 month old, and it has been his favorite toy ever since. At first, he loved to look at the lights and then at night the classic lullabies (you can program it to play up to six minutes) would lull him to sleep. At every stage of his development thus far, Tad has been there with him, and he has not lost interest. Now at almost eight months old, my son loves to try and push the buttons himself that light up and play nursery rhyme songs, and he laughs with delight when he hears them...we also sing them everyday. Tad teaches him shapes, colors, music, and motor skills so it serves an educational and developmental purpose. Tad also doubles as a cuddly friend (serves an emotional purpose) since my son has now taken to hugging him. My guess is Tad will be something my son pulls out of his closet later in life and remembers very fondly. This toy is educational, fun, durable, and safe...four of my requirements for great toys. Way to go Leapfrog! (p.s. Leapfrog also makes Lily which teaches different concepts, and they both come in mini size for easy travel.)

  • Very cuddly
    By A3PC3LSYOKAQ3N on 2006-06-16
Baby Tad was one of the first stuffed toys my son received. I would keep it in his crib with him. The night-time sleep music was the only way he would fall asleep at night. The songs are much more soothing than a standard mobile and lasts longer. I could set how long I wanted it to play (up to five minutes) which was great so I wouldnt have to worry about going back in and turning it off without waking my son. Or worse, forgetting that it's on and having to change the batteries every morning.

When he got a little bigger, he loved pushing the buttons and singing along with the songs. After about seven months, the batteries finally started to give out. Pretty good life span! Unfortunately, it made Baby Tad sound like he was very sick and it scared my son. I had to hide the toy until I was able to get some new batteries.

Overall, this is a wonderful toy for a baby. It can even last into the toddler years by teaching colors and shapes.

  • Fun Frog!
    By on 2000-03-13
This toy's adorable child-like voice is very clear and easy to understand for a toy of this kind. My 1 year old grinned from ear to ear the first time she heard it talk. The button sensors are very easy to activate, so it is easy for her to play with it. There are plenty of songs and color/shape activities to provide variety. A GREAT little toy!
