Pass the Pigsx$8.75
    (122 reviews)
Best Price: $8.75
For 2 or more players Go hog wild with the pig-tastic game, Pass the Pigs. Players attempt to rack up points by rolling the pig dice - but if they're not careful they might 'Pig Out' and lose all their points. Pass the Pigs is the sizzlin' fun, shakin' bacon game!
How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, a simple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you roll two cute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how the critters land. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "double trotter," you get 20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, called a "Pig Out," you gain no points and cede your turn. There are a number of other rules as well as a variation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game (the pigs, instructions, and scoring pad fit in a small, tidy box) or a fine present for someone who's, well, into pigs! --Elisa Murray

FUN and EDUCATIONAL if you know how By A3A90CELVLOUP6 on 2002-05-01
I am a teacher and I use this game with my kids at school all the time. They LOVE it from grade school to high school depending on how you use it. I don't really follow the rules that came with it, only the values of how the pigs land. I have used it often in an afterschool tutoring program were we often practice math facts and addition. I took the instruction sheet from the game, found the place where they have the pigs drawn and what the rolls are worth, enlarged it on the copier so all the kids (usually less than 6) can see it at the same time (and of course, colored the pig drawings pink!) Then each student rolls, finds what his roll is worth, and adds his score. The first to pass 100 points wins. We sometimes start with 100 and subtract our score -- the first to zero (or less) wins. We have played where I announce at the beginning of the round that "This roll will be multiplied by 7"..the kids all cheer "Come on doule razorback!" I was amazed how fast they learned what each roll was worth. I would have liked to try something with fractions, but my study group wasn't ready for that. (For example, you could make each roll worth a certain fraction and they would have to add them up at the end of the game.) We have also used it to study for tests. I ask them a question and if they get it right, they get to roll. I am sure you could adapt it to lots of subjects. It is just a fun way to do rote things with a little more fun. I have also used it with younger kids who cannot add yet. I drew them a 100 square (a little block about 3"x3" divided into 10x10 grid) and made a bunch of copies. Then they roll, find their score on the scoresheet, then color in that many squares with a marker. Nice counting practice, and visual of how much different coloring in 20 is from coloring in only 5. I sometimes ask them "Look at your paper and at Joe's. Who has more squares colored in? How many do you need to catch up?" I really don't see any problem with the competing, and I sort of like the added benefit of learning HOW TO LOSE (which few seem to know) and other sportsmanship behaviors. The only problem I have seen with the game is that the little black dot (on one side of the pig) wears off and I have to keep drawing it on with a sharpie. Also, after about a year, their little piggy tails are hardly hanging on. I need a new set. GET THE GAME....have fun, change the rules, make up new ones...the pigs are the motivation...you decide what you want them to learn from it. OR learn nothing and just play. You'll like it.
wonderful for all ages By A2WIF48MCM3L5E on 2002-02-22
Pass the Pigs is a variation on Yahtzee, with the fun little pig dice being thrown into different combinations with various point values. It's a great game to take on trips, or to pull out when entertaining children of various ages; everyone can enjoy it. I've played with children as young as 4 and had a fine time. Although the rules of the game rely on the player taking a turn until he or she determines that luck is about to run out (at the risk of losing all accumulated points), this can easily be modified (esp. for younger children) so that each player throws the dice in turn and records points. The educational value is in using mathematical skills, and pattern recognition skills, for younger players. This game is very durable, but it would be a sad day indeed if the little pigs were ever lost. Luckily, all the parts (pigs, score pad, pencil) fit into a neat little case.
Swine Time! By A25ZRQBJFOIQNA on 2002-01-24
After receiving this as a gag gift from a friend I thought that is was going to be a total blow. As it turns out this game can be fun for kids ages 3-103 and beyond. The rules are simple to follow and younger players may need help with the math from an older brother or sister when keeping score, but hey, who doesn't need to sharpen up on their math skills? Baring a resemblence to dice game, Pass The Pigs adds humor by giving yopu little rubberized pigs instead of traditional dice. This game makes a great travel game, and comes in a wallet like plastic container that makes it easy to carry and even easier to store in say the back pocket of a seat or in a nightstand drawer. Fun for one player or your whole gang...but buyers beware, once the initial addiction stage wears off, the game will become a dust collector in a closet somewhere. The concept gets old after continous play, and rolling those no longer adorable pigs becomes boring instead of fun.
Pigs on the Run, See How They Run... By A1SYLII0808HD6 on 2006-07-28
For under $10, those who have never seen this game before will get their money's worth just by looking at the package. Little pink pigs that you toss in the air! A sleek 1950's-style metal container, as if you're going compete with the Russians in pig launching. A bonus card game named "Snout." Get out your transistor radios and Etch-A-Sketches and have a retro party (hold the ham)!
THe concept is simple and brilliant. THe pigs are your dice, and you get points for the positions in which they land. Each of these positions has a name (e.g. Snouters, Trotters), and the more improbable, the more points (although I'm not sure that this has been physicist-tested). Yes, it's great for toddlers and kids, but it has that great goofy quality that nonconformist teenagers and young-at-heart adults will love. Not sure of hte all-important zany/stable balance of your new sig. other--get out the Pig game!
While the game can get old after awhile, what game doesn't. It can be put away and brought out whenever a suitable occasion arises. For kids, you might want to pair the porcine ones with one of the books in a Amazon.com listmania list that I compiled: "Piggy Lit. 101." Like the "Hungry Hippo" game, I suspect that "Pass the Pigs" appeals to some deep-seated animal instinct, long repressed. Get this game, have fun with it, laugh at it and with it, and release your inner pig!
Small package, great value By A1RK1573G1ADH2 on 2001-12-30
I really like this game for a number of reasons. First, because it's fun for kids AND adults to play, second, because it is very small and portable, and third, because it does require some math, giving it some educational value. It is also a quiet game requiring only a flat surface on which to roll the pigs and enough light to see them. It's nice that there are also so very few parts to lose (2 pigs, pencil,& paper-all in a case). We keep a set in our car, and when we are waiting to be seated or served at a restaurant, it's a great way to pass the time. It also makes a nice little gift for friends going on a trip. I only wish that I had thought up such a simple, but clever game!
- Fun
     By on 2001-08-19
This game is fun, but gets boring very fast. All you do is roll the dice (pigs) and depending on the way they land, you score points and add them up. The one with the most points win. It is a fun game to see who can roll what, but after a while it is dull.
- I've been passing my pigs for over 10 years!
     By A32C4MMH4CWG7C on 2001-07-23
What an awesome game! A counselor introduced me to Pass the Pigs when I was a kiddo at summer camp, and now I'm in college, and still rolling the pigs! It's great fun, and I've been throwing the same pair of hogs for the past decade. How can it be educational? As with any game of chance, there are different probabilities for different situations that might arise during game play. There are many different strategies, and if you look at this game from a strategic point of view, it can be very educational to someone learning statistics or probability. Some of my friends and I have even come up with a drinking game for Pass the Pigs. ... Take the plunge, and buy "Pass the Pigs". It'll be the most fun you've ever had with a dice game.
- Difference between Pass the Pigs and Pass the Pigs Deluxe
     By on 2001-08-16
I purchased Pass the Pigs Deluxe by Winning Moves from the internet thinking there were differences in the Pass the Pigs game distributed by Milton Bradley and the one by Winning Moves (The game by Milton Bradley was all sold out on the internet). Sorry folks, the only difference is the packaging. Both games have the same sturdy plastic pig carrying case and the exact same contents. However, in the original Pass the Pigs game the instruction packet is larger while in the Deluxe Edition there is a very small instruction packet. So, save a few dollars and "try to find" the original in the box. I got lucky and found the original in a Pharmacy. Enough of the complaining. With either game, you would have the same amount of fun. But if you are cost conscious like I am, get the cheaper product.
- Fun for the whole family
     By on 2001-12-03
We travel every Christmas and we always want some game that the whole family can play. This game has us laughing for so long. It is so wonderful it can slip in a pocket and be out ready to play at the airport or the ski lodge. Anywhere we are. My family is a family of 6 ranging in age from 14 to 50 and we all have fun with it
- Pass the Pigs is Awesome!
     By on 2001-09-30
This game is so much fun, our entire extended family enjoyed playing PTP. From Gramps to my youngest nephew, Michael. Everyone loved it. We had great laughs, and just an all around good time. I recommend it for ALL families! "Could you please Pass The popcorn -- oops, I mean Pigs!
- Contagious
     By on 2001-11-30
From the first time I played I was hooked. And once I introduce it to my friends, they become hooked. I bought several games last year as Christmas Gifts, and am doing the same this year. It is hard to believe that you can have such a great time with such a simple idea. The groups that I play with end up screaming and jumping up and down with each toss of the pigs!
- The Ultimate Travel Game
     By A3KRZDWHU4AYQA on 2002-03-15
Pass the Pigs is really the ultimate travel game. It's entirely contained within a handy dandy carrying case for easy transport. The plastic case is about the size of a checkbook and contains all you will need for hours of fun and hilarity. Nestled inside the case are two pink pigs, a small tablet (with golf pencils), and (of course) the rules. The pigs have a black dot on one side of their tiny little bodies and this dot will affect your scoring. Basically, you throw the pigs (much like rolling dice) and the way the pigs land (dot side up, touching each other, on top of each other (my oh my!), etc) corresponds to a score (each with cute little piggy names like pig-out, leaning jowler, trotter, making bacon (very bad!), etc.. Where strategy comes in is the roller of the pigs has to decide whether to keep the score and pass or to keep rolling in an effort to add to the score. The object of the game is to reach the winning score first (usually something like 100). The roller of the pigs can keep rolling until pigging out (which is fairly easy to accomplish) or pass. If you pig out, your score is reset to zero. It's fun stuff!
- a must have for moms
     By A2ZVUX8WVMXQJU on 2006-08-18
Quite simply this is a "must-have" for any parent who travels with their children.
This game packs up easily and can played anywhere. We have played this game in airports, on the tiny airplane tables, in restaurants, anywhere. When my sons grow restless, I pull out the 'pigs'. I have given it as a gift, only to receive loads of praise. It's fun, it's easy, it's small and easy to carry, it's pigs!
- Tossing pork never gets old!
     By A4IJAIG9455PT on 2001-11-15
If you always lose games or just love to play games this is the game for you. There is absolutely no skill involved in this game so if you always lose you have to win this game eventually. Amazingly this game never gets old. I use to play this game with my grandma when I was 5. I'm 22 now and I still love it. There is nothing more exciting about getting a double hoofer or a double razorback. Another great thing about this game is that everyone is really relaxed and it never ends up in an ugly fight. I am super competitive and always end up in fights. I have never had this game end up in a fight (Ok there was that one time when my brother caught me cheating at least that's what he called it, I called it strategic placement of my pigs.) A must own for everyone.
- Extrordinary Game!
     By on 2003-11-28
Pass the Pigs is a great game for the whole family! My family and I play it before dinner when we go to a restaurant. My mom can even carry it in her purse, it is so small! The bottom line is Pass the Pigs is an extrordinary game!!!
- Great game, a few quibbles
     By A1GK361M0PM7TP on 2006-02-23
We fell in love with Pass the Pigs at Christmas, so we bought four more from Amazon, for gifts to friends. I don't know if it's because these were the Deluxe Edition, or what, but they're different. The carrying case is different, stylish and more streamlined, maybe, but cramped. The score sheets are tiny, and almost illegible. But the biggest problem: the left ear seems to be slightly shorter than the right, so that there can be no "leaning jowler" position to the left side, and neither of the pigs lies flat on its side (I think, still because of the short ear) and we've had to award many "razorbacks" when we suspect they should have been simple siders (1 point) or "pigouts." A letter to the Pass the Pigs company was answered, but didn't address my suspicions.
- Pig out on fun with these piggies!
     By on 2004-03-19
A babysitter showed up with this game to amuse my 3 children, ages 10,8 and 5, and our children have been addicted every since. The game is fast, fun, and just kooky enough to keep you hooked. To make things even better, scoring reinforces math skills including adding in one's head, which is often skipped in schools these days. Great for planes, vacations and visits to the grandparents and doesn't dent the wallet.
- Excellent game to teach risk vs. reward to kids
     By A38ZE8SAFBU78W on 2007-03-12
Our family has played Pass the Pigs off and on for 6 years. The game is simple to play and has a different outcome every time. Sometimes the pigs toss favorably and sometimes unfavorably. The game teaches the value of learning to 'quit while you are ahead' no matter how little one thinks they are ahead (one of the pig roll combos reduces all of one's point in that round to zero- a 'Pig Out'.). A good lesson to learn in a gambling city like Reno where it is easy to 'lose it all' if one gets enamoured with the 'easy riches' lure of the casinos. Great game to pull out for two families with kids after a dinner together. A game takes about 20 minutes with four participants.
- What an awesome game!
     By A10AUXIGJHQM83 on 2001-07-16
If george orwell could only see me now. This game is awesome. My family and I play it on weekends, and it is totally hilarious. It requires little skill. You can all just sit back, relax, and toss the pigs across the table. Good for all ages. I really loved it.
- Pass the Pigs and Popcorn
     By on 2002-03-24
I have had this game for years, and at times , pull it out to play. These pigs have lasted through a lot; dogs chewing on them, little sisters chewing on them, and much more, and they are still in great condition. As for how fun the game is, you wouldn't believe how much fun I have playing it with big groups of people over the summer. I would totally recomend this game to everyone because even my parents and GRANDparents enjoy playing this game with me!! This game is very entertaining to watch to, even if you aren't playing because you never know what position those wacky pigs will land in next!!!
- Portable Fun for Everyone!
     By A1SM6TJWCA5NOJ on 2002-11-10
My husband and I bought this at a small gift shop on vacation thinking it might be fun when we got together with his game-loving family...we were right! It was a blast. We played it at first just the two of us, then with my 9 year old nephew (who loves to show off his addition skills!) and then with mu husband's adult brothers, middle age parents and uncle and even his 78 year old grandmother. It was fun, fast and just plain silly! Our aunt down the street went out and bought it that same week. My father-in-law is a fairly serious man (a doctor from London) and he loved it so much he asked for it for Christmas! We bought it off Amazon and will give it to him this December, 2002! The only thing I want to mention is that "travel" game might be misleading. The pigs (that act as dice) must be thrown on a smooth, flat, unmoving object such as a table or even a tv tray. This game would not work well in a car - for those who travel long distance with kids. But it IS small enough (the size of a checkbook and just as flat!) to take in the car to play on rest area picnic tables, on top of a cooler at the beach or an RV or airplane table. This game is fun and highly recommended by me and my entire family!
- The Funniest Game Ever
     By A2TEV4TXTEK7H7 on 2003-12-02
Oh my gosh. My cousin and his girlfriend came over with this game one night and my family has been addicted to it ever since. At first I didn't think it would be that great, but its just one of those game that you just get into. Once we started playing we couldn't stop. It's a really fun game.
- Better to start with experienced players
     By on 2004-05-27
When I got this game and played with my family, I did not think it was much fun because it takes a while to learn the piggy positions. I played again with a fun group who knows the positions well and I really got into it. The more players, the better.
- Possibly the Greatest Game, Ever
     By A24R7QRUPDY6Q on 2004-09-06
I remember when I was first introduced to this insanely fun (and yet somewhat bizarre) game. Just the names of the rolls (e.g. Snouters, Trotters, Leaning Jowlers) can make you crack a smile. It's extremely portable (I've brought it on at least 3 major vacations much to my traveling companions' delight) and even more addictive. When you're playing in public areas, oftentimes people stop to watch everyone crowding around these rolling piggies and loudly arguing over scores - they want to join in, and ask where they can buy such an awesome game! All my friends are head over heels for Pass the Pigs, too. Try playing at restaurants when you're waiting for your entrees to arrive. I highly recommend this sublimely entertaining and somewhat educational dice game!
- Pass the pigs AND the fun!!
     By A386V6LL1ULM8X on 2005-09-06
This is one of the greatest games ever created! What a fantastic way to pass the time (and redirect restless children!) in the car, at a restaurant, on a plane or at home. Excellent for use in the classroom as well, as it teaches rapid mental math skills and is fun enough that kids forget that they are actually learning! Small enough to carry in your pocket or purse for easy access just about anywhere. Highly recommended for kids and adults.
- Don't pass on Pass the Pigs!
     By A3OHRMXC3UTCR5 on 2006-08-31
I was introduced to this game a couple months ago. It's a perfect, perfectly mindless, fun game to play over some drinks, &c. when you don't want to get too focused, left-brained or serious. Basically you toss a pair of little pigs and make points based on how they land -- on their sides, back, feet, nose, etc. (Warning: highly addictive). Maybe children would take it more seriously. I haven't tried the card game that comes with this version (why bother?) -- but I heartily recommend Pass The Pigs. It would be the ideal game to play while hanging with your friends, listening to Jeffrey Frederick and the Clamtones singing "Porky."
- wonderful family game
     By A1CJIHUW6M1X0S on 2007-05-12
This is a great game for all ages. It is very simple to learn, fun and great for travel. We have given several as gifts and everyone really enjoys it!
On your turn, you toss the pigs and are given points based upon the position in which the pigs land. Don't be greedy, though as you can lose your points with a single throw! Try this game, you will love it!
- Disappointed
     By A3JXP74EC4RXN on 2007-05-20
After reading the many positive reviews for this classic game, I thought my family would really enjoy this. But it is boring. You don't ever need to stop rolling, since the pigs rarely end up touching each other in order for you to lose points. No skill, no strategy.
- Great for Adults
     By AV4PQ59W2NS0C on 2007-05-29
I learned this game 15 years ago in high school, and it was always one of my favorites. I have re-dicovered it as an adult and I love it!!!!!! We play with other couples and it is so funny that we all end up laughing and usually wake the kids up. Since they are up anyway, they can join in the fun because it is so easy to learn! I love this game and have just ordered 5 sets to play with my 3rd grade students as a math game. It is very versitile.
- Great family / friendship night fun!
     By ALLN7AT4FT8CP on 2007-06-17
When our friends pulled this game out the other night, I really didn't think it was going to be a very good game. But looks can be deceiving!! What a funny time we had. The pigs are soft and cute and very small- all of which adds to the silliness. You add the points up in your head (if you wish), and can keep rolling until you lose everything or decide to keep what you have and pass the pigs. Kind of like a TV game show. Points are awarded according to how your pigs land on the table, which you tally from the chart provided.
Long-short, we immediately had to buy one of our own, and the game is now a family favorite!
