Affordable Price, Too Bad It Doesn't Work By A1WYY9OKMB5LMA on 2006-09-22
Received the compass, installed the batteries provided and ......it didn't work (no display). Put a new set of batteries in and same result. Contacted the Company and was told the compass line was sold to another firm and I should contact them. So far, after a month, I'm still waiting for a response from this new company. Good thing it was low cost. I guess you get what you pay for.....
ALC Alert VT220 Auto/Marine Digital Compass By ALESAF7LCSSKB on 2006-01-19
This item is perfect for someone that doesn't know much about compasses. It was really easy to set. It only took seconds to set up. I even got it at a great price. Thanks for recommending it to me.

You get what you pay for By AS8NJH84YHF1P on 2007-01-04
I will not recommend this product. I use it in my car and most of the time is wrong. If you really need a compass you better read all reviews. I usually do it but I couldn't find about this product and well ... lucky it was only a few dollars.
I'd rate it '0' if there was a choice By A37ZQEJ5M0IS94 on 2007-02-19
I bought this unit two months ago and since that time I have used it sparingly. I went to turn it on today and it was dead. So I went out and bought a new battery and replaced the old one. Still dead. I tested the battery on a meter and it was full of juice, unlike this so called 'rugged' unit. A total waste of money, be forwarned!
- it worked for 3 month
     By A2RN5P6LEKSF9J on 2006-10-28
I bought it from sears, it worked for 3 month, then stoped, no screen display, changed with new battery, still not working. I gave up.
- Dead on Arrival
     By A2J37USVW1JKA5 on 2006-12-26
I should have heeded the bad reviews on this site.
I purchased this as a Christmas gift and tried to set it up for the recipient. It was dead on arrival.
I tried a new battery, still dead on arrival. Both batteries tested OK, clearly it's a dead unit.
I contacted the new manufacturer (NOT PNI as advertised) and am awaiting a response.
I can't recommend this product.
- A Loser
     By A2EH0BISLQJ33R on 2007-01-06
If it were possible I would rate this item at no stars, completely undependable. Requires constant recalibration lasting for all of a few minures. Have tried all the suggested remedies, including new batteries, nothing works. Next stop is the recycling center.
- P.O.S.
     By AO3M8XX5J1XML on 2007-01-24
Have been using this for a couple of days now and sorely disappointed. If you move the compass (of your own choice or it falls off the windshield), you need to recalibrate it. I've been sitting at stop lights and seen a 10º swing of direction. I have no intention of keeping this because of its lack of user friendliness.
- Wayfinder is Way Cool
     By A3DU4D3OB6RYET on 2007-03-16
The WayFinder is a very nicely packaged and built, rugged and accurate compass. It provides 5 degree sensitivity in the numeric display, versus the typical 45 degree compass points of most automotive application units. A result, in some environments, e.g. areas with lots of metal in the surroundings, is that you may notice a numeric readout change back or forth that you would not see in the typical 45 degree type compass.
It should be noted that interference environments affect ALL compasses, but when this one is significantly affected, it will tell you by displaying DISTORTION, so you know the currently displayed accuracy is suspect. In the areas I have tried it, the WayFinder is as accurate as my lensmatic engineering compass, but a LOT easier to use.
It comes equipped with a dual suction cup mount which stays put on my motorcycle windshield while driving down washboard dirt roads at high speed. Another post on this topic indicated that the compass would not stay put. Chalk that up to operator ignorance. Suction cups must be wet to stick to glass, but the manual did not mention this, likely assuming people have common sense, when obviously they don't.
All suction cups require moisture on the cups to stick to glass.
The only bad thing about this unit is that it has been discontinued, and is being replaced by a unit with more features at a LOT more expense.
Bottom line, if you need a high quality, off-road tough, accurate compass, find a WayFinder before they are all gone!
- second time around
     By AIWWOLMH0GQUQ on 2006-11-05
This is a good compass for someone like myself with no sense of direction. It works well the second time around. The first one I received was dead on arrival. I was promptly shipped a replacement which seems to work well. I have had it now for about two months and the battery seems to be lasting although I only turn it on when I need a direction.
- WASTE OF MONEY
     By A34NPAJ2V0YYJ on 2006-11-06
Varries 25 to 30 degrees all the time and you have reprogram aleast oncce a week.
- Lost and need to find your way?
     By A18B79184YVA6E on 2007-02-03
I bought this device primarily for the temperature feature, but guess what, it wasn't temperature, it was degrees of direction. Despite my misunderstanding, it is accurate. The only drawback is that the suction cups do not work on the windshield. I keep it in my glove compartment and pull it out when I'm lost. The backlight is not useful because it is too dim. Might as well have left that off and sold it a couple of bucks less.

An excellent auto compass. Easily set up. Reliable operation. Seems like an excellent value.
- Oustanding Compass
     By A2RBFDZM0KOWDK on 2007-07-29
I'm surprised at all the negative reviews for this compass.
Worked perfectly at outset.
Followed directions. Turned steering wheel all the way in one direction before starting 2 turns (not one) & pressed power button before completing second turn.
Agree backlight could be brighter but it is still readable in low/no light situations. And, you don't have to hard wire light (uses battery).
Bought at Radio Shack for $9.97+tax. Great buy.
