Beware Don't buy this for Streetpilot C series By A1EZ0IBH76NLVD on 2005-12-27
Amazon shows this as an accessory for the Garmin C340. I bought the C340 and this dash mount relying on Amazon's representations. The mount does not fit the C series gps. I tried to communicate the problem to Amazon and the third time they acknowledged indicating the proper department would be notified so the misleading representation could be reviewed. The return was a problem and I had to complain to get the amount of purchase credited. I'm out $8.00 return shipping plus the runaround, and it's Amazon's fault I got the wrong mount. Guess what? The page is still incorrect. Don't buy this dash mount for the C series, it takes a special mount and you will pay for Amazon's mistake.
Basic design flaw By A1IVGDWOO5TQ64 on 2004-07-29
Garmin's friction dash mount is immensely convenient for quickly moving your GPS between cars without modifying the dash -- very nice for rental cars. However, I find I have to baby the car around turns to keep the mount from sliding. I spend way too much effort worrying over and watching it as I drive.
While the friction surface and weighted bean bags are a very good implementation of the portability design requirement, it has a basic flaw with respect to automotive use. One will remember from basic physics that friction is the coefficient of friction multiplied by the normal force that pushes (downward in this case) the two sliding surfaces together. It works great on smooth streets and low-G turns. Occasionally, however, cars go over bumps. The movement alternately increases and decreases the normal force between the surfaces. Friction sharply increases and decreases and very little lateral force is needed for the unit to fall off the dash. Also consider the soft suspensions found in nearly all rental cars which allows the chassis to roll way over in hard turns. In the roll, the angle of the dash allows the lateral force to reduce the normal force another way and, thus, the unit falls off the dash.
I have experimented with my iQue 3600 in a Mitsu Evo 8 with a very stiff suspension that corners very flatly, a VW Passat wagon and a couple rental cars. The dash material of all these is very receptive to the clever friction material on the bottom of the mount. In all cases I was able to cause the mount to come loose in mildly spirited driving. Trying harder, I can get the mount to move during braking, turning and even *accelerating* maneuvers *at will* on smooth streets. The mount is entirely incompatible with my Porsche 928 and 951 dashboards. In all these cases, the suction cup windshield mount of my Garmin eMap works without failure even in highly spirited driving.
The no-dash-modification portability is great, but it doesn't stay put which is very distracting and dangerous. Perhaps more significantly, this mount becomes a projectile in a collision.
Gets the job done By A146MRTE4BNPDC on 2005-07-20
I bought this item so I would have some portability with my GPS V Deluxe. After having it for a couple of weeks now and using it every single day in three different vehicles, I must say that I am very satisfied. As stated in the description, the mount has four bean-filled "wings" that act as weights and stabilizers for the mount. The bottom of the mount has a grippy rubberized/neoprene type lining that acts as a high-friction material for the dashboard. The internal structure of the mount (including the bean-filled "wing bags") is made of some type of flat metal. This metal "core" enables you to gently mold or form part of the mount to accomodate drastic contours of a dash.
I have used this in a Chevy truck, Ford Explorer and a Chevy car without any issues whatsoever. I have never had the unit slide, even a little, during cornering or acceleration. I don't know how it would do in a high performance car with a wild driver, but it does just fine with normal everyday driving for me.
The mount comes out of the box ready to use. The plastic mount for the GPS unit is already attached and you simply use your existing car mount (which should be already attached to your GPS) and pop the GPS on there. This mount is identical to the dash mount that comes with GPS units, only that this mount is attached to a weighted friction pad and bean-filled bags.
I highly recommend.
WARNING! By A2XA43SGK9HEL8 on 2006-04-28
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! This does NOT include the mounting arm for your particular GPS unit. You MUST purchase the automotive mounting bracket with arm that matches your GPS-even though the product discription says it will work with "x" GPS!
Garmin Portable Friction Mount for GPS By AA93U89QU2IWI on 2006-07-23
This product works exactly as advertised. I mounted my Nuvi 360 to it using the Automotive Mount. So far, I have used the friction mount in three different vehicles, two of them trucks. With some rather rough roads and sharp turns, the mount has not slipped or moved from it placed position. It's quick to remove the Nuvi from the mount and take it with you. The friction mount is designed to stay fixed on a lot of surfaces with different shapes. I can't imagine a situation in a vehicle where a user could not find a satifactory place to set it for viewing the GPS while driving. I hightly recommend this product. I just wish that Garmin would see fit to include it with units which need a vehicle mount. Having to buy the automotive mount as well as the friction mount is a pain after paying big bucks for the GPS unit.
- Rocks for normal drivers
     By A1TTKKN4AY63QK on 2005-01-23
I drive a company-supplied vehicle, so alterations to the dash are out-of-the question. As long as the cord is not interfering with gravity (run under the bean bag) this will hold up for all but the most extreme driving.
I don't drive like an old lady, but I don't really take into consideration G-forces when I am on the road. Unless you drive like an &^%hole this will probably stay put pretty well. For the record, I drive a 2004 Ford Freestar (a real babe magnet, let me tell you.) and live in a pretty hilly twisty suburb of Philadelphia. The only time this thing fell off the dash was when I ran the wire to the power adapter underneath the bean bag.
- Important to know:
     By on 2004-07-02
It works fine with my eTrex Legend but I'd like to emphasize that the AUTOMOTIVE MOUNTING BRACKET (PART #010-10274-00) is needed in order to use this item, and must be purchased separately.
- It works great
     By A2K6RYMKP53SHO on 2006-01-26
This is perfect for portability. I don't have any problem with it staying in place when turning. I use it on my boat and cars. It will sit on the console, as well as the dash, if you have about 8 Sq. in. of space. You do have to buy the Automotive Mounting Bracket that actually holds the GPS unit and slides into this Portable Friction Mount.
- Wrong Part for Nuvi
     By A1R16A0CXH11V3 on 2007-07-08
I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS, and wanted a friction mount to make it easier to move from one car to another. This is NOT a usable part. I had even checked the Garmin site before buying to confirm the part number. After the mount arrived, and it was obvious that nothing in the Nuvi system mounting set would match it. Amazon provided the return authorization and credited my account promptly. I did go back to the Amazon listings before writing this, and found that they now list and stock 010-10908-00 which appears to be the correct part for use with the Nuvi series.
- Don't buy this product, if u want to move your GPS from cars to cars
     By A1TEKB5ZW4X6SW on 2007-05-17
If u want to use your GPS on different cars, u should buy Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi and StreetPilot C Series (010-10908-00) instead. Garmin doesn't show this information on their website, Garmin just tries to confuse the users, so that users would end up buying both Garmin Automotive Mount for Nuvi (010-10723-04) & Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Garmin GPS Units (010-10306-00), while 010-10908-00 alone could serve the same purpose.
- Worked for me
     By A1Q26UUBD696Z0 on 2005-09-07
I just used my new beanbag on vacation with a Garmin Legend in two vehicles, an Audi Allroad and a rental RoadTrek Camper Van Conversion aggregating 2000 miles, some on back roads, and had no slippage or other problems. Very convenient. I probably won't bother to put a permanent mount in my next car. 9-7-05
- Works Great
     By A374BQK4MO1S4J on 2006-12-23
I bought a Nuvi 660 and within a few weeks the suction mount stopped working. I think the cold weather makes the rubber suction cup too brittle to hold.
When you have $800 invested in a device the last thing you need is to have it falling off the windshield and bouncing to the floorboards!
I bought the friction mount and it works like a charm. I drive a mini-cooper and the friction mount stays put even around sharp turns. The only other option out there is to buy a glue mount and attach it to your dash. I have no desire to glue anything to the dash of my car!
As other reviewers mentioned this is great for moving from vehicle to vehicle. One warning you will need to buy the Garmin 010-10823-02 Automotive Mount to use this with your Nuvi.
- Replacement Part Only - DO NOT BUY
     By A1CLCR7RI2QA69 on 2007-06-26
This is a replacement part only - it is not the complete friction mount as advertised. I bought this after its being offered as "better together" with a Nuvi 370 purchased at the same time. The correct part number is 010-10908-00 and it costs less than $1 more. Save yourself the double shipping time and order the correct part the first time!
- Great add-on
     By A16PKR0PIB6959 on 2003-06-25
I have a GPS V that I really like and this is one of the best add-ons for it or any Garmin GPS. The GPS V comes with the required mounting bracket, and other models do too, but if not, you need to make sure you get it along with this. This friction mount is relatively small but stays well on all dashboards I've used it on. It's pretty flat so it travels well in a suitcase or carry-on bag. It allows you to position the unit in the most appropriate spot in the vehicle and then using the clap attached to the GPS, adjust the angle of the display so it's optimal. Detaching and re-attaching the clamped unit with the friction mount couldn't be easier. For such a small and inexpensive add-on, I couldn't ask for more.
- Do not buy - Incomplete
     By A3822665Z33RS9 on 2007-08-25
This item does not come with the mounting neck to attach your unit to the base. Order Portable friction mount (no installation required) Part Number: 010-10908-00. This comes with the neck.
- bean bag only
     By A2947BBFYD1EZ2 on 2007-03-20
The bean bag is perfect for mounting on the dashboard. It is secure and configures well to the dashboard. It is easy to mount and to move to different cars.
But it is only the bean bag, The mount to hold the Garmin is not included. This information is not included in the literature. The mount is about the same price as the bean bag. I made my own.
- Garmin Portable Friction Mount
     By A11Z19WF2I5EDY on 2007-03-23
This "bean bag" type mount is a major improvement over the Windshield suction cup mount that came with my Nuvi 660. The suction cup mount always had the habit of falling off the windshield, most frequently during cold weather. It's amazing that I didn't have a wreck as my natural reflex was to save the Nuvi! The friction mount is stable providing confidence that your high dollar Garmin will stay in place. The friction mount provides a great alternative to placing a permanent mount on the dash. It can be easily moved to different dashboard locations depending on your preference. Plus it is easily moved between vehicles. Overall, this is a great solution that I highly recommend.
- Garmin Portable Mount
     By AC4ID19IVAAW0 on 2004-02-01
I purchased one of these mounts and I have found it invaluable. I don't know of anyone that would be disappointed with this purchase. They make mounting very easy, quick, and convenient. With this you can move your GPS from one car to another seamlessly. No need to destroy your dash with a permanent mount. I have heard some people say that this mount slides across their dash. I have not been able to reproduce that at all (and believe me I tried). Don't hesitate to purchase one of these mounts if you have a Garmin GPS!
- Don't buy this mount for your Garmin GPS 76
     By on 2004-05-26
I guess I was misled by the webpage and recommendations. I thought this item would fit my GPS 76. On the page for the appropriate mount 8% of the buyers bought this mount instead of the fixed mount...so I guess I thought they were interchangeable. They are not.
- Incorrectly described
     By A2MGDAEF4SY7X7 on 2006-09-22
This Item is not described correctly. This ITEM is NOT for Garmin c550 or Any of the C line. I had to returned it at my OWN EXPENSE. AMAZON please correct the description of the ITEM.
- Don't buy for NUVI!!!!
     By A1CNNPP2HTMNQX on 2007-05-29
Garmin's web site lists this under accessories for Nuvi, but it WILL NOT WORK without another adapter. You want their part number 010-10908-00 which works without an adapter. Amazon's web site is pretty unclear on this also. Wish I had read the reviews first!
- It works
     By A3DSHKC0FZ2TCI on 2007-03-12
This is a handy device. The Nuvi can be attached and removed very simply. When it is attached, it is held firmly in place. It is very easy to adjust the Nuvi to various angles. Nice non-skid surface on the bottom.
Note: You absolutely must have the 010-10723-04 Automotive Mount in order to use this. The two items together add up to a fairly expensive choice, but it does do exactly what it should.
- Unacceptable
     By A17Y4W6FD0PEOY on 2007-06-23
I bought this for my Nuvi 360 and guess what, it doesn't fit. I thought I was safe in choosing this as I went from the accessory links provided on the product description page of Nuvi 360.
So, I contacted the Amazon support and here is the lame response I received.

- Garmin Portable Mount
     By on 2003-09-15
If you have been debating with yourself about getting this, just buy it. I bought this after a couple of weeks with just the dash mount that came with the Garmin V Deluxe package. The reason I did not like the dash mount was that it was a pain to move from car to car. This mount is fantastic. It sits still and the mount can still be used to provide the best viewing angle. Best of all, when you get home or to your destination, just unclip the GPS with a push of a button and toss the bean bag mount in the glove box. It is a great add on to have. Get it, you won't regret it.
- Dashboard mount problem solved
     By A312938TXAIYVB on 2007-01-19
I bought nuvi 660 and I did not find good device that will mount my GPS to the dashboard. Since I am in California I cannot make use of windshield. The adhesive disk did not even stick it for a minute. I tried both permanent and temporary adhesive disk, no use of those in my Lincoln LS car. I was searching for a good mount and this friction based bean bag mount came to my view and the reviews really impressed me to try this.
Now I can say that this is the best easy and convenient method of dashboard mount for nuvi 660.
I like it and recommend it for nuvi660 dashboard mount.
- Caution: Bean-Bag Only
     By AI33JBAWRF5W on 2007-06-26
Caution: This is the bean-bag only (010-10306-00). It does not include the little hook-shaped gizmo with the ball on the end. [Please excuse my highly technical terminology!]. I had to learn my lesson the hard way by returning the wrong item and having to pay for 2nd day shipping as we were about to leave on vacation.
If you want the entire kit, be sure to order product code 010-10908-00.
- Portable Friction Mount for nuvi
     By A3CNWF8OXIZC5 on 2007-07-27
This item should be sold in the stores when you buy your NUVI. I could not use the suction cup on my windshield so I scoured the web and found this item. It works great. It stays on the dashboard with no slippage and it is very easy to detach the nuvi so you can take it with you when you leave the car.
- Friction Mount
     By A1OGN17SYRTP0Z on 2007-07-25
This was the wrong item, it didn't have the mounting to attach the Navigational system.
- Caution - no mounting arm!
     By A2KFO228QPJDTU on 2007-11-30
Be careful which item you order. This model does not include the mounting arm, and you cannot buy it separately. There's another model (10-10908-00) that includes the mounting arm. Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi, StreetPilot I Series & C530, C550 (010-10908-00) Hopefully this will save you the trouble of returning your order like me!
- Garmin Portable Mount
     By A16A87NHJAYEZI on 2007-01-16
This makes it so easy to move from vehicle to vehicle when travelling and doesn't leave marks on the window like the suction cup mounts. It holds to the dash without sliding around; it isn't too heavy to pick up and move and it holds the Garmin securely. I love this product and recommend it hightly for anyone with a Garmin.
