A newborn will be content lying on her back, gazing into Mommy or Daddy’s face. And that doesn’t really get old for a long time. But baby’s brain and muscles and skills are developing, and after a while she would like a wee bit more entertainment, if you don’t mind. The award-winning Gymini Super Deluxe by Tiny Love is a classic, sure to provide, well, minutes, but they add up to hours, of amusement! And parents know that even 10 minutes of uninterrupted time to make dinner or throw a load in the wash can be a blessing, even aside from the myriad benefits the Gymini play mat gives their little one. And what are those benefits, you ask? The list goes on and on, but here’s a start. First, a Brief Description The Gymini folds out into a 32- by 32-inch soft mat, virtually swarming with colorful illustrations of jungle flora and fauna, most notably a giraffe, zebra, lion, and elephant. Overhead two padded arches cross, from which dangle more critters, as well as a large mirror and a plastic bead rattle. Hidden below, baby will eventually discover, is a music box that plays Mozart and several nursery tunes. Textures, colors, sounds, and lights abound, and baby has the power to make all these objects squeak and jingle and jitter and flash, as soon as she can figure out how to make those hands and feet and mouth of hers connect with her heart’s desire. Herein lies the developmental potential. Shake, Rattle, and Roll Whether she’s waving her limbs around; aiming specifically for the goggle-eyed, smiling monkey overhead; or rolling over to find the source of that I.Q.-enhancing classical music, baby will be hard-pressed not to advance her infant skill set on the Gymini Super Deluxe. From the monkey with springy leg to pull to the vibrating, jitterbugging elephant to the mirror she can see if she just lifts that heavy head a bit higher…everything on the play mat has a mission: to make baby learn. Cause and effect is a biggie: when she bats at the giraffe, it rattles. When she pokes one corner of the mat, music and lights seem to emerge from the fabric flowers. When she rubs the elephant ear on the mat, it makes a fun crinkly sound. Those large muscles are getting a real workout, too, resulting in improved large motor skills: reaching, kicking, rolling over, pushing up. Many babies don’t particularly enjoy their necessary daily "tummy time," but the Gymini encourages baby to lift and turn her head to see the mirror and find the flashing lights. Tummy time is fun again! And don’t forget the fine motor skills! Those little fingers have to meet if baby wants to grasp the zebra’s mane or the parrot’s crackling wings. Details, Details Plastic rings hang from the many holes in each arch; dangling from each is a plush animal or toy, providing still more stimulation. Additionally, parents can easily switch out the toys for variety, simply detaching the included toys from the rings and looping other baby-safe toys on. A hidden music box in one corner of the mat includes an on/off switch with two musical selections: 10 minutes of Mozart or three short fragments of popular nursery tunes. The music is a bit plinky, as is the norm with most baby toy music, but not at all offensive. When the music stops, all baby needs to do is press anywhere on that corner of the mat to start it up again—she is further encouraged to do so by the flowers that light up when the music plays. A hidden squeaker in one of the birds, peek-a-boo with the elephant ear, flap-flap-flap with the butterfly wing, tug-of-war with the giraffe’s tail…the play potential is limitless, whether she’s sitting up or lying down, one week old or 8 months old. For Mom and Dad The mat and arches fold up flat, and the entire Gymini snaps together and travels easily, which is a good thing because you won’t want to be without it on your next trip to Grandma’s. The padded mat is machine washable (read instructions first—the music box and mirror don’t take kindly to machine washing…). Three AA batteries required for the music box (batteries included are for trial only and should be replaced). --Emilie Coulter Activity mats are a staple baby item in most households. They provide a safe, fun, and educational environment where your little one can lie or sit, and play. Tiny Love's award-winning deluxe mat depicts a riot of happy animals. Elephants, monkeys, giraffes, and even birds will charm your baby who will love the round mirror, squeaky bird, crinkly elephant ear, and pullable giraffe tail. Also included are four plastic rings that can hang from the crossbars, each one with a different plush animal attached to it providing more stimulation and activities. Hidden in one corner of the playmat is a small plastic box housing a switch and speaker. Move the switch to Mozart to hear 10 continuous minutes of music and to light up the three flowers on the mat. Switch to Nursery Tunes for shorter snippets of three popular songs. The mat and its arches fold up nicely, and the entire gym snaps together and travels easily. --Pam LauerA newborn will be content lying on her back, gazing into Mommy or Daddy’s face. Great toy for baby and mom! By A3Q8Z3JFZNUC07 on 2003-08-21
We didn't get this toy right away and weren't sure how much our son would like it, but we picked it up when he was about four weeks old and I am so glad we did.At first he was mostly interested in the mirror (which is a tiny bit warped, by the way, but not too bad at all), although the toys are close enough that he could see them and would spend some time looking at them too. Now he is almost three months old and he still loves the mirror, but also spends lots of time smiling and batting at the toys. He can happily spend about half an hour in there. If he does get bored, I move him to another spot to change the view and he's usually happy again. We also detatch the toys and take them with us in the car, stroller, etc. He particularly likes the monkey (which has a big smile) and smiles back at it when he sees it. The elephant has a sparkly tummy that he also stares at for a long time. Some things we didn't know when we bought it: 1. Each of the toys has something different that is interesting about it. The monkey and the giraffe are both rattles, while the elephant is one of those pull toys that shake. The parrot has crinkly wings. 2. The mat washes well but has faded a bit after only a few washings (we put it in the dryer on low). This is my major disappointment with the toy - for the price it should hold up a bit better. The toys have to be washed with a damp cloth. 3. The whole thing colapses down quite flat. We took it with us on a plane trip and it fit nicely in the bottom of a suitcase. 4. The music is quite tinny, but not bad for a toy. It does get old after a while (there are only two settings), so we usually put on our own cd when we want music. 5. The mat is nice and soft (good if you have have hard floors) and has some interesting textures: the giraffe's tail, the zebra's mane, etc. All in all, we are quite pleased with this toy. My son seems to find it entertaining, and he hasn't even begun to use all of its features. I think we'll get a lot of use out of it in the months to come. Hope that helps!
So Much Fun! By on 2003-09-01
This play gym is the best. We didn't register for it, and when I received it as a gift I thought it had too much going on. Little did I know how thankful I would be for it! My baby started playing on it around 6 weeks old. I've seen his brain develop right before my eyes thanks to this toy. He started to reach out for toys, he started rolling over, he started noticing himself in the mirror, bringing things to his mouth, and now he's starting to scoot himself around to get to all the fun stuff. Soon he'll be crawling! All of the toys that hang from the arches do something neat and different to stimulate your baby. The mat itself has little surprises...mozart, crinkling ears, a hidden squeaker, a giraffe tail. It's the perfect place to put your baby for his developmental "tummy time" as a newborn and then for his developmental play time as an older infant. I'll cry when we have to put it away! A definite must-have!
The best baby purchase I've made to date!!! By AZIZ4N4OQVG98 on 2004-03-10
I first saw this gym while registering at Toys-r-Us before my baby was born. Because of the sticker price I didn't even consider adding it to my registry; however, once my son was born I realized how alert babies are at such a young age and how intriguing colors and patterns are to them. He didn't really have many toys and I felt he needed something fun to look at and learn about. While killing time in Toys-r-us I ran into this gym on display. After a couple of weeks of deliberating, my husband and I finally cracked down and purchased the gym. Let me tell you it was the best purchase we have made for our baby up to date! We also purchased the windchimes separately and I highly recommend them to anyone. At 2 months he loved staring at the colorful animals and was already kicking the windchimes with his feet. By 3 months he was grabbing the toys with his hands and batting them to make them swing. Around 4 months he started noticing his reflection in the mirror. The mirror is also slightly movable and he would push and pull the mirror while looking in it so he could see different things around the room. I could literally have left him on this mat for hours and he would have been completely content. We took it with us everywhere... to grandma's house, to visit friends, to playgroup, even to a Christmas party... and our baby was completely entertained. The animals unhook and we clipped them to our stroller for shopping trips. Our son has a cousin his exact age and they both loved this! It was so fun to watch them play on it, and for all you photo moms... pictures taken on this mat turn out really well because of the bright colors!Tiny Love is also very easy to work with. One of the lights burned out on the play mat (all of their products have a lifetime warranty) and they replaced the entire musical pad free of charge. They even have a website you can go to to order replacement parts (www.tinylove.com; click on "contact us"). Our baby is now 10 months old so I (reluctantly) have cleaned and stored this away for our next baby. This has been the best purchase we've made. The only drawback I can think of is the price, but if your experience is anything like ours, the price is definitely worth it. Buy this one larger toy as opposed to several smaller toys. I did, and I would do it all over again. My baby got more play time and use out of this gym than he has out of all the rest of his toys combined. The only other thing to note is that when my baby was really young (like 2 months old), he would sometimes get overstimulated when all the toys were hanging from the bars. I would put 2 toys on at a time and rotate them so he always had something fun and different to look at. That seemed to solve the problem (and it really only happened when he was really young). This probably isn't the case for most babies, but if your baby cries when you put him/her on the mat this may be why and hopefully this suggestion will help. In all, I highly recommend this gym! I've become a big fan of Tiny Love!
Love It! And so does our baby daughter! By A10EIFT2WXAZ90 on 2002-10-14
I bought this for our daughter when she was only about 6 weeks old and started laying her on her back underneath the hanging animals. She LOVES it! She is now almost 3 mos. old and is able to kick at the animals and bat at them with her hands. I have many pictures of her laying on her playmat with big smiles on her face! The music and the lights are nice. She particularly likes to look at herself in the mirror. What makes this mat very nice is that you can buy additional hanging toys for it and change things around so baby doesn't get bored. I highly recommend it!
Best playmat out there! By on 2003-05-09
My 3 month old really likes this. It's taken him awhile to enjoy it because of his age, but he's starting to really get into staring at the toys and grabing at them. It has a good amount of removable toys hanging from it and an attached mirror in one corner. Also 3 flowers on the mat that light up when the music is turned on. Things I like about it are that the toys are of good quality as well as cute and the mat is nicely padded. It also has a few different interesting features such as a crinkely elephant ear, furry zebra mane, squeaky bird, etc.. which are on the mat itself. I also like that you can detach the toys to wash or take with you. My son loves chewing on them. The colors and patterns of this mat are very nice. Visually stimulating for the baby yet not gaudy. Very cute and fun. And the music isn't annoying as on some toys. The tune can be changed and the sound quality is good. I found the price of this was a bit high, but when compared to some of the other ones, the little bit extra that you pay is worth it. I have another one someone gave me and I don't like it half as much simply because it's lacking a lot of the features this one has. The only thing I don't like is the mirror seems a bit warped when you look into it, so I'm guessing the baby doesn't see himself all that well in it. But other than that, I love this product and highly reccommend it.
- Beware - Choking Hazard
     By A2NRJMI8J50KLH on 2004-10-07
My son almost choked on the pink plastic from the bottom of the elephant's stomache. If my father didn't see it in his mouth, he would have choked. So make sure to either get rid of that piece, or supervise when child is playing with the elephant.
- Music and Lights ruined this product!!
     By A2MBZ74DB3V4W1 on 2002-09-26
This is a FANTASTIC product WITHOUT the lights and sounds. We have a gymini deluxe with no lights, no sounds, and it is perfect for our 4 month old daughter. She loves it. Why add "video game" like qualitites to an excellent toy? Tiny Love has great toys, I am very disappointed to see them heading in the direction of Fisher Price, everything with lights, sounds, and Mozart. How are kids ever going to learn do to anything without lights and sounds if all of their toys from infancy up are mega stimulating? By the way, we will often play Classical Music for our daughter from the radio, which she does enjoy. This is much better for a child's developing mind than the same tinny, repetitive digitized Mozart sounds.
- A truly wonderful item for baby.
     By on 2002-07-07
We have several friends who purchased this for their grandchildren. The babies play for hours. It holds their attention, makes them giggle, smile, etc. Wish they had this when our children were growing up. It is totally amusing and awesome, safe as well.
- The Best Gym Ever
     By A343PCBEG2AFB1 on 2004-01-26
Boy do I wish I had bought this for my first child. Instead of my third. My baby loves this. There are so many things for her to do. She has played on this since she was 4weeks old. Trying to get her eyes to focus and see a better picture of things. Now she looks at everything. She loves the parrot, and elephant. She also loves the lights in the flowers. She will pull at the flowers to see the lights. Now I can not keep her still on the gym. She rolls to where she wants to be and plays for hours on end. This was a gift and was by far the best I have ever had. The really good thing is that the music is not that loud. So it does not hurt her ears. She will actually roll over to the music box and put her ear to it and go to sleep. The really good thing about this product is that Tiny Love has a lifetime warranty. If something ever breaks, tears or whatever they will replace it (no questions asked). I have several tiny love items and they are all so good. The quality is great. The customer Service is wonderful also. I bought a tiny love Mobile and the music box did not work and they sent me another one(music Box) and I got it in 2 days. I would tell anyone to buy all of there products. They are all so great.
- Deluxe waste of money
     By A1XAYSI96X8YVH on 2004-11-01
I'll be frank here. I am a first time mom and I had/have a lot of misconceptions when it comes to babies. I naively believed my child would not suffer from colic because I knew how to handle colic. Well, I was a little off on that one, and I found myself with a colicky kid who didn't want to be put down for any reason... and I naively believed, then, that if I purchased the right flashy toy, he would get over this and let me put him down, and he'd be entertained and quiet and I could get something done around the house, or maybe I could sit and do nothing at all, a luxury I had no idea how much I would miss during my pregnant-and-looking-forward-to-baby days.
So... even though common sense told me that this was a lot of money to drop on a playmat, I hoped and prayed it would be that magical toy that could make my life that much easier.
It wasn't.
My baby was about a month old when we bought this... maybe a month and a half, I don't recall exactly. I know other people had this and their babies loved it - I mean, I knew these people personally, I'm not just saying I know this based on reviews. But my baby wasn't interested at all. He didn't lay and happily gaze or bat at the dangling toys, he wasn't soothed by the music, he wasn't mesmerized by the flashing lights. (In fact he absolutley hated the flashing lights because he had to be on his belly to look at them and he hated to be on his belly.) Once he got a little bigger and was able to roll over, he would roll out from under this toy as soon as you put him under it. (Sometimes he'd get stuck on an arch which made him really irate...)
So... this toy did nothing for us. I don 't deny that your child may well love it... but I think that you need to be more realistic than I was about what it may or may not do for your child. If your child is actually showing an interest in dangly toys, music, or lights - this may be the way to go. If you have a colicky, fussy newborn that you hope to distract with the gymini - you might want to think again.
At any rate... whether it works or not... this is a hyped up and expensive product. The music that this toy plays is, as others have mentioned, repetitive and irritating. Also, this toy claims to have XX number of activities - I forget the exact number - but they arrive at thjat number by counting each and every little detail, such as the fringe on the zebra's main and the lion's tail... and c'mon! 1. those are the same thing and 2. that's not an activity!
Also... aside from this one item, actually, we don't buy Tiny Love toys... not because there is anything wrong with them per say, but because I feel they really push the "developmental" angle and charge a lot for toys that parents think will help their babies in that area. The simple truth is that to a baby, who comes into this world knowing next to nothing, everything has some developmental benefit. (As an example... my baby is now 11 months and his favorite activity is to take everything out of his cabinet in the kitchen - that's where we keep pots and pans and rubbermaid containers. He learns about shapes, sound, cause and effect, texture, size...) I'm not saying Tiny Love toys offer no benefits - but I'm saying, it doesn't take a panel of experts and years of research to put out baby toys with said benefits. It annoys me that TL plays this card to such a degree.
ANYWAY... this is not necassarily a bad toy, but it did nothing for us, which is why I say you need to be realistic about whether or not it will do anything for you. I think these baby gyms can definately serve a purpose, but you need to make sure your baby is the sort who will enjoy it - not all babies do. And if you do want to try a baby gym, I suggest you look for one that is JUST that - you don't need lights and sound - or perhaps look for the kind that comes with a play pen. I learned much too late that you can actually get a play pen with toy arch/gym attachment for about the same price as this gym alone. If you go that route, at least you have a play pen to use later on (and that's an item you might not hink you need, but which will come in handy as a porta crib and as a means of blocking doorways to keep baby contained...)
- Excellent for young babies who are bored!
     By A23XVF23C7BHP0 on 2002-10-15
This helped our son get from the stage of just lying on his back with one handheld toy to moving about, pulling himself up, and eventually crawling! There are a variety of toysm each of which is at a different ability level so your little one may not use all of them at first. Joseph couldn't 'do' the jittery elephant at first and when he discovered he was able to work it, he was overjoyed! The music that goes with this mat is good for the most part, but the rendition of Three Blind Mice doesn't start properly and adults may get bored with the Mozart after a while. I think perhaps a greater selection of tunes would have helped. Nevertheless it was fascinating to watch our son learn how to operate the switch and then to see his face as he enjoyed the music. The unit is also washable, which is good (you remove the electronic part first) but got a little faded after just one wash so it may not last as well as it should. A great way of helping your baby learn while he has fun.
- Engaging and Good Quality
     By A1921B3ZS1VF8Q on 2003-07-17
I bought this playmat because I was looking for something interesting for my very active ten week old boy. He has been "dancing" in his crib to his mobile, so I thought something like this would be enjoyable for him. He LOVES it. He lies under the little arch smiling up at the toys, batting at them, and kicking his feet to the rhythm of the music. (I like the fact that the music can be changed--we also have the Symphony in Motion mobile from Tiny Love and I'm very tired of listening to Mozart! ) All in all, it is an engaging toy that seems to be well made. I enjoy watching my son as he is actively interacting with the soft toys and the mirror.
- choking hazzard
     By A1XGKICICA7ED7 on 2004-08-20
When we first purchased the gymini we loved it, and so did our baby girl. That changed today. The purple elephant is a danger to all children. The shiny pink plastic on the bottom of the elephant can come off when put into infants' mouth! My daughter was sucking on the elephant and began vigorously choking.I'm sure this is not the first time this has happened. And if consumers continue to purchase this toy before this problem is rectified, it will surley not be the last!
- Love It!
     By A1SD8L669UZF4E on 2003-01-09
This is the best money we have spent so far. Our 2-1/2-month-old daughter loves this mat. She started out watching the lights and listening to the music. Now she is grabbing the animals and laughing and having a good time. She will lay and play for a long time, and sometimes even falls asleep from playing so much. I highly recommend this mat. Also, after a few weeks of use one of the light bulbs burned out. I contacted Tiny Love on their web site and they sent a whole new mechanism without a problem. Very cool!
- Great entertainment
     By on 2002-09-23
This playmat is wonderful. Our four month old has enjoyed using it for tummy time as well as for building her eye-hand coordination. The mirror is a bonus now that she has discovered the funny image of herself, gaurenteed giggles! The colors are rich and exciting. It's wonderful that the music pad is removeable for complete laundering. Everything snaps off in order to pop in the washer. The hanging animals are removeable and make great carseat buddies. All in all this is a great portable playmat.

My daughter is 2 months old and absolutely loves this toy. It is definitely one of the best baby shower gifts we've received. She grabs the animals , smiles at the lights, and coos the entire time she lies on the mat. It is a must for infants!!
- Not worth it!
     By A38FL3CLBRKDUL on 2004-01-22
I thought this prduct would be decent quality since I spent a fortune on it and extra Gymini toys to go with it. It faded terribly the first time I washed it. It also shrank ALOT and was hard to get back together. Also, the toys aren't that interesting to babies. I run my own inhome childcare, and all three babies weren't thrilled. The music is LOUD and terrible. It would turn on by itself even when it was turned off. I ended up taking the music and lights part out and throwing it away. Don't waste your money on a piece of junk. Invest in the new Fisher Price Linkadoos playmat. It is wonderful and the extra toys are reasonably priced and the kids LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Great Playmat
     By A37EJ231GI0SUO on 2004-10-06
We received this playmat as a gift in our first week home from the hospital. Being a new mom, and not knowing what all we would need, I didn't know how great this gift could be. I let it sit in the package for the first week when I finally decided to open it up. I put my son on it, and he LOVED it, at only 10 days old. He "danced" to the music by kicking his feet around, and was enchanted with the bright colors. He only lasted 10 minutes before fussing, but he loved it so much, I felt like I had been depriving him of stimulation by not using it sooner. He's now almost 4 months, and can go for 30-45 minutes on his mat with even more enthusiasm and interaction. We don't use a swing or bouncer seat, so this playmat is perfect when I need a moment with my hands free or to have the baby out of his Baby Bjorn carrier. It keeps him entertained alone for a minute until I can get on the floor and play on the mat with him.
I'd give this playmat 5 stars, except for one thing...the nursery tunes are useless because they only play for about 10 seconds. You have to switch it off, and turn it back on to get the next nursery tune, whereas the mozart setting plays continuously for about 10 minutes. I think the nursery tunes are supposed to be this way for when the child is older and can find the hidden places on the pad to press and restart the music, but at 4 months, I'm sick of hearing just the mozart music, and wish there was a little more variety, since he hasn't yet figured out the secret places to press in order to replay the music.
- Great from the first day

We set this up when we brought our baby home from the hospital. It has lots of bright colors that newborns can see and lots of great toys and textures for when they develop more. Two perpendicular arches over the mat have holes to fasten animals (monkey, giraffe, elephant, parrot) that rattle, crinkle, stretch or shake and a teething ring with beads. The mat has fun colors and textures too. It has an elephant ear that crinkles, a felt tail on the giraffe and a felt mane on the zebra, and a bird that squeaks. There are also flowers that light up when music is played. Pressing down on the flowerbed starts the music, and you've got a choice of Mozart or nursery rhymes. Unfortunately, after three months this stopped working properly. It stayed on all the time (even when we turned it to OFF) and the batteries soon drained. Aside from this problem, we love the mat. As a newborn, we could set my son on it to take naps. As he got older, he started admiring the colors and reaching for the animals hanging from the arches. It's great for tummy time too. He loves looking at the animals that are on the mat, grabbing the elephant ear and flowers and looking at himself in the big mirror that's in the corner. Also, the mat washes up so well. Spit up comes right out of it and none of the colors have faded one bit in the ten times I've washed it.
- Great Toy, but Watch Out for the Tail Feathers!
     By A1PX4AHKG2A1AY on 2006-04-11
My 4 month old daughter absolutely loves her play mat. She's been actively playing with it since she was about 5 weeks old. She loves looking at herself in the mirror, kicking the elephant (which we have hanging low) and grabbing and chewing on all the other animals. It's also great for practicing tummy time.
One word of warning: Our daughter was chewing on the tail "feathers" of the parrot the other day, as she usually does, only this time, she managed to push one down her throat a bit. For a moment, she was choking, but thankfully I was right there and pulled it out. We have since moved the parrot higher so that she can only grab at it.
- Really Diasappointed

This seems like a great playmat in concept, and I had high hopes for it. But every time I put my daughter on it she cries. I think it is probably just way too stimulating for her. For awhile there we called it the baby torture mat because she cried so much. Now, I've just given up on it.
I could at least salvage the hanging toys because they are removeable. She really likes the elephant.
I bought the Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium by Fisher-Price instead and she loves it. Since the bars don't cross, I can put her in her bumbo at one end to play with toys upright, I can lay her in the middle for overhead play, or I can attach the toys to the tummy time fold up part for tummy time play. My only wish is that it came with a tummy time pillow.
Anyway, the moral of the story is, more is not always better. Consider your baby before you purchase this Gymini mat. If your baby gets easily overwhelmed, then, like me, you will just end up buying the most expensive hanging toys on the market.
- Entertaining from 0 to at least 8 months

Our daughter has spent at least a half an hour every morning with this toy from birth to more than 7 months and it still has not grown old. One of the things I like best about it is that you can detach and rearrange the toys to change things up; there are plenty of extra attachment points so that if you have other toys with those standard clippy rings, you can attach them to the gym to add variety. The way she can play with it has changed over time, and I think she'll continue to be able to use it until she can walk.
0-2 months: she stared at the toys and mirror and particularly enjoyed it if someone shook one of the toys. She especially enjoyed the giraffe, which rattles, and the monkey, with its springy feet. The crinkly bird wasn't interesting yet. However, as for the elephant -- it has a wind-up mechanism inside that makes a ratcheting sound as you pull it out, then vibates upward as it retracts -- she found that ratcheting sound to be utterly terrifying.
2-4 months: she began to learn to reach for things by playing on this gym. The toys dangled at a perfect height for her wandering hands to grasp, and the design of the skinny legs and outsized feet of the giraffe and monkey made it easy for her to catch hold of the toys. Although she hated spending time on her tummy, she could be distracted for a few minutes by the music and lights on the mat. However, the elephant was still terrifying.
5-7 months: she can now rotate herself in place while on her back (accidentally), which has the benefit of positioning her beneath different toys, to add variety. She likes to reach for the mirror and pivot it back and forth, which provides her a view of baby -- then no baby -- then baby -- then no baby. It's like her own private peekaboo game. She is no longer terrified by the elephant, but she does stare at it with distrust. She'll spend 5 or 10 minutes playing with the nursery rhyme music and lights on her tummy.
I think she'll continue to find this toy entertaining until she can walk. At that point, it'll probably become a hazard in the house; I've seen another walking baby be able to pick the whole thing up -- it's very lightweight -- and then run in to various things with it.
Another nice thing is that the mat is machine washable, and it air-dries quickly. It did fade with the first couple of washings, but doesn't seem to be fading further with time. It collapses into a very flat package by folding in half, staying closed with two snaps; it is great to take along in the car and could fit very flat into the bottom of a very large suitcase.
As for the music, I find the "Mozart" setting to be incredibly irritating. But the nursery rhymes are okay. The music is at a good volume, loud enough for baby to hear from her position right next to it, but not so loud that it drowns out conversation or the TV.

I received this item as a baby shower gift and was curious to see if my daughter would get a lot of use out of it. I first put her on this at about a month old, which was a little too early. However, at 2 months old she fell in love with this toy. She loved to bat at the hanging toys and look at herself in the mirror. She is still loving it at 3 months old and is now learning to grab onto the hanging toys. She still loves to look at herself in the mirror! I put her on this everyday and she will happily entertain herself for atleast 30 minutes at a time. She also loves the music it plays. It plays nursery rhymes and mozart. I have not tried any of the others, but I can definitely recommend this particular toy with confidence. I feel sure that my daughter will be able to play with this toy for at least another month or two. I think it is very helpful in developing her coordination and muscles. I am recommending this playmat to all my expectant friends and hopefully this review will help you with your decision making!
- Best play Gym!!
     By A1RN9D6KX1LLOP on 2005-01-30
This play gym is great!! My son loves it! We actually registered for another gym and recieved this gym as a gift. At first we were going to take it back, but then decided to keep it for when we went to our parents. We used it one day when the other gym was in the washing machine and have not put it back in the closet!! My son loves it and it entertains him for hours. The music and lights are great for encouraging tummy time and the pull down toys are fantastic! My son is now 4 months old and we use it everyday!
- Fun Mat!

We received this for our second sons birth and he loves it! The mat is machine washable and has a lot of features. There is a mirror that is attached that helped encourage him to work on lifting his head. As he got older he liked the different textures on the mat (Zebra's mane, crinkly ear) and the toys. I didn't realize this at first but all of the toys do something different. The elephant vibrates, the giraffe rattles, the monkey stretches, the parrot spins around and they rings move round on the other toy. We even detached the toys and put them on the carseat if we had a lengthy ride or shopping to do. The music is okay, only has two settings so it seems a bit redundant after awhile and gets annoying but otherwise, this toy was a great gift!
- My two girls have both loved this toy!

I bought this toy with Christmas money for my oldest daughter when she was about 2 1/2 months old (she is now 3). We used it every day and even well into when she was stitting up and standing. She liked all the features, especially the monkey. When she was 21 months my second daughter was born and we pulled it out again... she renewed her interest in it and would play with her newborn sister by showing her the features of the toy. My second daughter also loved it too...when she was about 1 year old we put it away for future use with other children. This toy is very durable and has been spit up on and washed many times while remaining in excellent condition. My girls both loved the lights, mirror, crinkle sound in the toys and play mat and also the music. I can't say enough good things about this toy! It is now put away and awaiting usage from our future children...I'm sure they will love it too!
- Mozart Please...
     By A4TPKTTW913O7 on 2002-10-20
This really is a terrific playmat. It has numerous hanging animals (each one does something different), so the baby always seems to have a "new toy". The choice of Mozart or nursery rhymes is also fantastic...my grandson like the Mozart best. I like the idea that the mirror is large and that it does not distort what the baby sees (most of them give a really weird look).I would really recommend this item for all new parents, and it makes a great gift. It comes with its own carry case which makes it a pleasure to use and put away.
- the best among others!!!!!!!!!!

for my baby shower I received a gym as a gift, when I opened it up it did not have many obtions .I returned it and got this one. since I got it, my son is having so much fun. He loves the music,he smiles at the charactors and above all he gets excited when he sees himself in the mirror.also the elephant can be pulled which stimulate the pulling and grabing. this gym probably cost a little more than other gyms for babies but it is fully epuiped,it has mirror, music and light as well as lovely colors.
- Greatest Activity Mat Available
     By A2IHQY067W74NQ on 2003-07-10
I bought this activity mat for my son when he was 3 months old, after realizing I needed more than just a bouncer or car seat to place him in. I only wish that I had found this sooner. The Mozart music plays continuously for 10 minutes and the brightly colored and textured toys continue to keep him stimulated even now, at 11 months -- the hanging toys are removable, and make for great travel toys to keep your little one occupied. I found that as he grew through various stages, he discovered different parts of the mat such as the mirror, the fact that the dangling elephant vibrates when you pull it down, the lights in the flowers light up when the music is on, etc. I bought the kicking wind chimes as another hanging toy, and he had a ball with that as he started to move around more. Thumbs up on this one!
- best purchase yet!

We purchased the Gymini when our son was 3 weeks old, and it was an instant hit! We had started out with the Boppy 5-in-1 but he didn't care for it and I didn't care for taking it apart every time he ate. I went on a search for a play gym, and I saw this one. I was a bit reluctant to buy this because of the price, but it's been worth every cent! Our son is 3 1/2 months old now and he loves the Gymini. He kicks and bats at the animals (the monkey's the favorite - hand and feet fit well in the mouth!) and stares at himself in the mirror. It also makes a great place for a quick nap or tummy time. My son loves the toy so much that we bought additional Tiny Love animals to attach to the arch - a purple bird and a green frog, both with stretchy legs that he loves to pull on and put in his mouth. I did find that the mat faded after washing (and I let it air dry), but it's minor and doesn't affect the product's use.
