This is not just another remix album. All the songs of Hybrid Theory have been reinterpreted, plus 'High Voltage' and 'My December.' Just a few of the remixers/featured artists (since the list is so long) include Jay Gordon (Orgy), Evidence (Dilated Peoples), Aaron Lewis (Staind), Chali 2Na (Jurassic 5) & Black Thought (the Roots). Digipak. 2002.

Reanimation is the evil twin of Linkin Park's 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory. While plotting their next studio album, the Southern California band enlisted some of aggro rock's leading lights, as well as some of the more enlightened underground MCs and producers, to slice and dice all the songs on their debut (including a few bonus cuts that made it to their Japanese release). Linkin Park allowed their special guests--including Korn's Jonathan Davis, Staind's Aaron Lewis, Orgy's Jay Gordon, the Roots' Black Thought, and Jurassic 5's Chali 2NA--to run riot through their songbook, tweaking melodies, writing new lyrics, and sometimes changing the entire intent of the originals. As a result, this collection of 20 songs is Mr. Hyde to Hybrid Theory's Dr. Jekyll. Most of Linkin Park's atmospheric and melodic moments have ended on the cutting-room floor--along with the self-consciousness that pervaded many of the songs--replaced with a brash impudence that's more rap than rock. Chali 2NA entirely changes the landscape on "Forgotten," shape-shifting the song into an alien being dubbed "Frgt/10," which takes you to a dark, desolate place with only your own disturbed thoughts and some electronic bleeps for company. And that's enough. This is a masterful art project that truly succeeds. --Jaan Uhelszki MPN: 48326 - UPC: 093624835424

  • Not just another remix album

    By A38G64S5VMRI1P on 2004-06-05
Linkin Park's "Reanimation" is a remarkable CD. Many people I know said they wouldn't buy it because they assumed it was just a collection of extended, watered-down versions of their originals. Untrue. Each song is completely unique from it's parent, often times barely resembling it. With each song they took it to the next level, sometimes rerecording/rewriting the entire vocal or rap section to make it different from the original. "Pushing Me Away" comes to mind as a great example of this. So there's the first thing - this is not just a pale reflection of "Hybrid Theory"; it's completely fresh takes on the songs, including some previously unreleased cuts only available to LP fan club members.

Although they used a dozen different producers throughout the CD it has an amazing continuity to it. The same melodic string and piano motifs appear throughout each recording, connecting it in a surreal way. There is only one production that seems out of place to me, and it's on the worst possible song - "In The End." This was their biggest hit from "Hybrid Theory" and fans were expecting more out of it than any other cut on the record (at least I was). They destroyed it. The producers gave the song a shuffle feel and laced it with the "yo-yo-yo" street thing, rather than the more rapcore attitudes that permeate the rest of "Reanimation." Terrible.

Fortunately, though, the rest of the CD shines. This may be the first record, with the exception of "Hybrid Theory," that utilizes the newest technology for the good of music, not for the worse of it. Here's a brief explanation.

Music is done entirely on computers today. There is no more tape. Only hard drives. We can now work with music in a similar way that a writer works with a word processor - just cut and paste. The result has been the demise of music. We now have tools of unbelievable power, undreamt of only ten years ago, yet the quality of music has steadily gotten worse. Why? Because the tools are so powerful and simplified that unqualified musicians can now use them. Performances can always be "fixed later" so a good performance doesn't really matter anymore. The vocals can be tuned, the drums can be put in time - not need to waste precious studio time on perfectionism. That's if you're lucky enough to be in a studio. Most of these systems are in the producer's house, which brings us to the second reason for demise - location. We no longer need 84 channel consoles and racks upon racks of outboard gear. It's all in the computer. Anyway, I'm going off a little too much. The point is, music quality is declining because enormous power is now in the hands of people who aren't qualified to have it.

Linkin Park, however, has used this power for good. They've managed to use it to produce new sounds we've never heard before and to overall improve the quality of their sounds. On "Reanimation" the editing is used as an instrument as much as anything else.

Make sure to stick with every song because they often turn midway through into some new, amazing section. Track 7 comes to mind as a production with a less interesting first half that ends up providing the best moment on the album in the outro. If you liked "Hybrid Theory" I can't imagine you wouldn't love "Reanimation."

  • Good Remix CD, But No Follow-Up

    By A3PSH5LYJCF9I4 on 2002-07-31
If you like Linkin Park's original CD, "Hybrid Theory", you'll probably like their remix CD, "Reanimation". Linkin Park brought in a slew of DJs and rappers to help them bring out a CD that would hold fans over until their second "true" CD comes out in about six months. Some remixes turned out really great, standouts include "By Myself", "Place For My Head", "Pushing Me Away" and, of course, their single, "Points Of Authority", which came out with some harsh beats and more speed to them. However, the great dissappointments of the CD were their original singles. The remix of "In The End" sounds faster at best, nothing much has changed. Although they did change many of the lyrics of the song, the song sounds too similar to the original, with only real noticeable difference to the song being in the chorus, where the tune becomes more muddled and crowded. "Crawling" sounds similar as well, the beat is changed very little, sounding more like a rehash than a remix. A new, rapid fire verse is added, which is a nice addition, but not enough to make me like it as much as the original. "Papercut" was my biggest disappointment. Being my favorite song on the "Hybrid Theory" CD, I was excepted a great remix, if nothing else at least a good one. However, I was disappointed, as they just put out the exact same song, with the tiny change of making the song sound a little more electronic, not remixed at all. I could do the exact same thing with the original version of "Papercut", all I'd have to do it put it on really poor speakers and turn up the static. "One Step Closer" is the only decent remix of their singles, which is a true remix, but instead of speeding it up, they slowed it down and put a lot more emphasis on the beat, so the vocalists are overshadowed by the beat. I find this to be one of the average remixes on the CD. With the "Cure For The Itch" remix, you'll find more of the same, great DJing, but a variety of new samples have been added to his old ones. "With You" is also slowed down and lengthed, I would say the same thing about this one as the "One Step Closer" remix. Along with the "Hybrid Theory" remixes, you get remixes of a variety of remixes of songs from their first EP. "High Voltage" was a good song originally, but the has a much stronger beat as well as a featured rapper added to it. I have not listened to the songs of "My December" or "X-ecutioner's Style" enough to get a good grasp of what I think of them, but what I've heard of them, they aren't really stand-outs of the album, but aren't disappointing either, don't buy the album to hear these song though. Really, it's a really good album, but don't think of it as a follow-up to "Hybrid Theory", it's not that. What it is, though, is a little treat for those of us who like remixes and something to hold all of Linkin Park's fans until they release their next CD.

  • Different, but still really good

    By A35IG09XMSZRNM on 2002-08-01
Those who bought this cd expecting to find rock remixes of tracks from "Hybrid Theory" were sorely mistaken when they purchased the cd. This cd contains "re-interpretations" of all 12 tracks from "Hybrid Theory" and some even remixes of tracks that were previously unavailable to the US.

You can't really call this a "remix" album like P. Diddy and J-Lo have done because all they did was re-think the beats. Linkin Park DEFINITELY re-do the beats, but on most occasions, they offer different lyrics as well. Like the track "ENTH E ND," Mike Shinoda and Motion Man offer different lyrics to a Raukus Records-esque hip-hop beat. It's really different and really entertaining. However, The best tracks come at the end and are not hip-hop influenced. "1STP KLOSR" and "KRWLNG" are the tracks that feature Jonathan Davis of Korn and Aaron Lewis of Staind, respectively. Both artists add their completely different, yet hypnotic voices to the tracks. Each one's voice make the track stand out just that much more than how Chester Bennington was able to do on the original album.

Overall, I can't give this album 5 stars because even though it is revolutionary, it's not the best album it could have been. "MY

Wow! This CD is great! I had great expectations for Linkin Park's new CD. I waited so long. Well, they sure met them my standards. A very nice follow-up remix CD of their other cool Hybrid Theory album. Reanimation was tranformed into a rock-rap mix, with electronic sounds and voices. Just like Hybrid Theory, every song was outstanding. To tell you the truth, I didn't want to buy this CD at first. I thought ithe songs would just be a repeat. But the "reanimations" were extraordinary. No need to worry about profanity, if you do. They don't use any. Reanimation is just as good as Hybrid Theory. Here's an overview of the songs.
    1-Opening-A nice calm instrumental tune.
2-Pts. of Ahtrty-great song, great video (comes in CD)
3-Ent hE Nd- a cool rap remix of the the original single
    4-Chali-a message on a phone
5-Frgt/10-takes you to another world of occasional electronic sounds
    6-P5hng Me A*wy-Cool rock remix
7-Plc. 4 mie head- nice mix of the original
8-X-ecutioner style- a mix of all songs, with DJ work and rap.
    9-H! Vltg3-Another rap mix
    10-Riff Raff-message on phone
11-Wth>You- a harder rock song mix of the original
    12-Ntr/Mission- an instrumental tune
13-PPr. Kut- a cool mix of the original, with electronic sounds
14-Rnw@y-A rock mix witrh rhythm, of the original.
    15-Stef- message on phone
16-My Decmber-Relaxing slow song by Linkin Park.
17-By_Myslf-Almost like the original, with a different tune
18-Kyur4 Th Ich-Instumental DJ song with a strong beat

19-1stp Klosr- More guitar strums/intsruments, almost like the
    original
20-Kwling-A mix of the original, taking you to another world with a duet chorus and electronic sounds.

  • Re-animation of Hybrid Theory

    By A3UZHPT6414PS0 on 2005-03-03
This CD is not the best remix version I have heard, for example in my opinion the reinterpretations of several songs such as Points of Authority, High Voltage and By Myself are lacking what the original versions had and that is flair and brilliance. What saves this CD is the input and sometimes successful combining of guest vocals and bands like Aaron Lewis from Staind who goes well with Mike Shinoda's voice.

Overall this CD has 20 tracks with most songs in the 3 minute range and not that long per say. This Remixed album won't be for every fan however I enjoyed the majority of the remixes as they showed that Linkin Park was at work on creating more great music that soon came out in their latest album 'Meteora'.

Look out for the last track, it is one of the best tracks. A good close for a strong CD.

  • It's got a lot Hybrid Theory didn't.
    By AWYEROSXF3XCL on 2002-07-31
Hybrid Theory was, in the opinion of most, an excellent album, and was certainly a financially successful one, especially considering it was the first serious recording venture made by the California band. The songs were usually bitter, often sorrowful, but seldom really angry in the dark, Nine Inch Nails sense of the word. NIN and bands like it have demonstrated that you don't have to be loud to be bitter and brooding, and Linkin Park has embraced this theory in Reanimation. By and large, the tracks on Reanimation are much quieter than their Hybrid Theory counterparts, but they are much darker. The effect complements the original album very well. The remixes themselves are very masterfully done, most notably 'Enth E End' (the almost jazzy new piano sample will catch your attention right away) and 'Krwlng' (Staind's Aaron Lewis lends himself very well to the song). The remixes of 'Place For My Head' and 'Pushing Me Away'--to which Korn's Jon Davis lends his considerable talents--and the previously unreleased track 'My December' are also well done. However, if you didn't care for Hybrid Theory, don't expect to enjoy Reanimation. Listening to the CD, I found myself preferring and disliking the same songs that I had when I got Hybrid Theory. Overall, though, it's certainly worth your money and an excellent CD to have, especially if it's to complement Hybrid Theory. Just as a brief aside, if nothing else go to a store and look at the back of the CD. You can have a little fun trying to decipher the twisted takes on the names of the original songs. 'Frg/10' gave me fits until I figured it out.

  • A Musical Masterpiece
    By A11MYPR02VHQF8 on 2002-08-22
Like most people, hearing that Linkin Park were releasing a remix version of the their debut album "Hybrid Theory" ,I didn't expect it to be much different except for a few differnt beats thrown in here and there. I didn't believe it could be possible for them to turn the greatest album ever, "Hybrid Theory", into an even bigger success.....But they have. From the moment these 20 powerful masterpieces poured through my headphones it brought me to a world of Musical Excellence. Linkin Park have built this world with their creative intelligence, masterful lyrics, and controlling beats that grip you from the moment they sound. It's the most amazing compliation I have ever heard. They are true Masters.
The album opens with the powerful remix of 'PTS.OF.ATHRTY' which takes you deeper into the whole atmosphere of the song.
'ENTH E ND' is stripped of its hard metal sound but its the beat and the updated wording of the song that grips you.
'FRGT/10' is transfromed into a much deeper statement and is more dramatic.
'P5HNG ME A*WY' is a remix of the beats and vocals and is more enjoyable to listen to.
'PLC.4 MIE HED' is also just a updated version of the original but very entertaining.
'X-ECUTIONER STYLE' is a compliation of different beats remixed with Black Thought providing the vocals.
'H!VLTG3' has a jazzy type feel to it and although I prefer the original mix its still an interesting listen.
'WTH>YOU' is brillant, with a strong rock feel to it, its very powerful to listen to.
'PPR:KUT' updated with cool voals, beats and guitars, its excellent.
'RNW@Y' is stronger than the original and more meaningful.
'MY'BY_MYSLF' is gripping with its harsh guitar sound and the vocals are updated for the chorus.
'KYUR4 TH ICH' is just remixed with additional beats and sounds for effect.
'1STP KLOSR' is one of my favourites with Jonathan Davis contributing his own unique sound to this unique track. There is almost a two minute build up to the explosive main tune and is much stronger and deeper than the original. Brilliant.
'KRWLNG' this is another of my favourites and is also the finale to an awesome collection of tracks. Aaron Lewis provides vocals alongside Chester Bennington and the pair come together on a level of musical brillance in this masterpiece.
Overall you can't put down anything that Linkin Park put their intelligence to. They are the true Musical Masters and this album is a definite recommended buy.

  • Sheer crap. Why isn't anyone calling it a sell out?
    By ASVNSWIXBV72Q on 2004-01-03
I hate this C.D. Always have always will. It's always been on one of my lists of terrible C.D.s. Every time I've listened to it, I was mad at the incredible lack of originality. I think it is a definate sell out. So why is it so bad? Hybrid Theory's songs, "remixed" on Reanimation, are almost exactly the same! It's almost as if Linkin Park did a "copy and paste" and called it a new album. Almost exactly the same vocals, guitars, lyrics, structure, overal sound, etc. The only difference in the songs are the occasional skip or break in voice during singing. Couple this with a couple of really dumb skits (i.e.: a ten second message left on a message machine to one of the members of Linkin Park), a couple new songs, and terrible spelling of those songs' titles, and you have Reanimation.
The reason Reanimation managed to get 2 stars is because of it's decent guest appearances by stars (John Davis from Korn, Aaron Lewis from Staind). If you collect everything by Korn or Staind, download the songs in which they appear. Also, the few new songs, such as My Own December and High Voltage, are for Linkin Park fans only (and I even know some fans who don't like My Own December). Linkin Park used these two tactics as selling points, in order to make the album more interesting.
This album is more techno-rap, less rock. Sometimes it seems as if the guitars are completely left out of the music. LP needed to stop touring and write the new album, Meteora. And, although it may be something to listen to during the down time between Hybrid Theory and Meteora, I still think it was a greedy move to release this C.D. Buy it if you are a big, hardcore Linkin Park fan. Otherwise, do not reward Linkin Park for this. And go ahead, give me the "not helpful" vote, I'm just warning those who like good music.

  • wtf
    By A1XJV4LBBBGLL6 on 2006-05-17
i rarely review albums unless i read something so stupid it bears responding to. this MPD 360 cat or whatever the hell his/her/its name is is a flaming retard. why? let me break it down really quick:

a.) he cites Linkin Parks' monotony...and then suggests Underoath as an alternative...Underoath is one of the most monotonous emo-rock bands ever...and every single member of the band looks like a clone of one guy who cuts himself, wears sweaters and doesn't like to be able to see through his dirty blonde hair.

b.) he complains that the songs don't sound like the originals...what retard buys a remix album to hear the original versions?

c.) he somehow manages to miss the fact that Linkin Park is heavily influenced by hip hop...and complains about there being MCs on this project...maybe he never heard the rapping on the original version, noticed the band has a DJ, or heard of them doing collaborations with Jay-Z on the Collision Course EP, and Dan The Automator on the Handsome Boy Modeling School albums...maybe he just doesn't know. SOMEBODY ought to tell him, then.

d.)he says Linkin Park uses simplistic chord structures and melodies and layers...whether they're top 40 or not, Linkin Park has one of the most multilayered and densely mixed sounds I've ever heard in my life...and I get paid to review albums.

The verdict? this guy is a retard.I think I'm a bit biased, I assumed as much as soon as I heard him pimping Underoath...how someone insults a band for lacking creativity then lists Underoath as a favorite, I have no idea. But that's beside the point. Screw this kid, he has no idea what he's talking about...probably because his sweater is too tight and the blood loss from the last time he cut himself is starting to make him dizzy. As for the record itself, it's very well done. I think the mixing done for Collision Course was a little bit better, but that was done by one or two people, this is an entire rogue's gallery of hip hop quotables and well known alternative musicians and singers. Personally, I could have done without Jonathan Davis on one of my favorite Linkin Park songs, though. I will say that, while I love how far the remixes deviate from the originals, you lose a lot of the feeling put into the originals and the emotion gets muddled by the mixing and cutting and pasting...but it's a good album as far as remixes go. If you like this...check out the Jay-Z/Linkin Park Collision Course album, or the Handsome Boy Modeling School album "White People" there's a song on there that features both Mike and Chester, as well as DJ Shadow and someone else, I forget who the other MC is at the moment. But check that out if you love good collaborations. And anyone else who has a thought process similar to this MPD 360 cat or whatever the eff his name is...some things are best left kept to yourself.

  • Something to tide fans over
    By on 2002-08-06
While certainly not a new album, this remix of the original Linkin Park disc, "Hybrid Theory" comes off well. The CD as a whole has a much stronger rap feel, although the rock element is stil there. Some songs, disappointingly are hardly changed and sound not different but worse than the originals. This however, does not detract from the overall quality of the CD as none of the tracks are truly "bad". My personal favorite track on the album, and the reason I bought it in the first place, is "MY
  • Reanimation is Underated!
    By A1MEH43V3I3FX7 on 2006-07-30
The people who take the time to write bad reviews for albums such as this one have to remember that nobody cares what they think, and that they don't have to buy the album themselves. As a fan of Linkin Park I think it is my duty to let those people know that Reanimation is not a money making scheme to fill the financial gap in between Hybrid Theory and Meteora, it is a chance for other fans to see the potential of the amazing songs that are in Hybrid Theory. I don't know of many other albums that you can remix like that.

And as for the whole "hip hop is crap" thing, Linkin Park has always had a hip hop influence as well as it's more prominent metal edge. If you expect a band to produce the same type of music all the time then you'd be mad, what's wrong with a band trying to reach out to a wider audience? And besides, the following album, Meteora, restores the delicate balance of metal and hip hop that we all came to love in Hybrid Theory, so I don't know what the fuss is all about.

And yes, I agree, some of the songs aren't as good as thier origionals and the message recordings are a little pointless, and that's why I only gave it 4 stars. But if you really appreciate music and the effort that is put in to produce it (both the origionals and the remixes), then I would encourage you to buy this album.

  • Well... what can ya say?
    By A1MG0XHW2YSI9 on 2002-07-31
Did anyone stop to think that maybe this was a bad idea? Thanks to Limp Bizkit, Destiny's Child, and P. Diddy, we now have a rise in popularity of something pathetic called the "Remix album". The only sad thing is that Linkin Park wants to raise awareness that their album is not a remix project but rather a re-vision or a re-mastering of their past work.

This idea and this type of music just doesn't work. The first time around was a good time for all, but the new versions of Linkin Park's songs are completely unoriginal and frightfully boring. The remixes lack the gravity that the originals had, snipping away essential parts of songs and melodies and pasting in stupid hip-hop beats and studio effects.

The only thing I can congratulate these guys on is the stellar sound production. The treble really rings and the bass really pounds. This is the second time DJ Joseph Hahn has outdone his usefulness for the band.

    >>> 1 star for Linkin Park releasing filler material before their second album. If you're looking for people who know what a remix is, go buy "Community Service" by the Crystal Method.

  • A Stiff Reanimation
    By A2ZMXJT6BDVZY0 on 2002-08-11
Linkin Park came in from nowhere and amazed with their 2000 multiplatium effort, Hybrid Theory. For the past two and a half years, they have toured nonstop with only about 14 songs to play.

I think I speak for all LP fans, that we'd rather have a new, FULL album than another dozen tours. Hybrid Theory barely had forty minutes of music on it. Not enough to warrent at least SIX tours and festivals.

Unfortunetly, the sophomore CD is nothing more than a collection of re mixes. I must point out that most bands don't put out remix albums untill well into their career. Usually their dying days. The band says that the reason that Reanimation was made was to hold over their fans untill their "real" second CD. I say that they shouldn't have wasted time on this and gotten right to the second. An album takes no more than six months to make, and Reanimation probably took about four or five.

As for the album itself, it's almost entirly new. The metal element is almost totally erased, and the hip-hop element is front and center. This has alienated the bands core audience, as most metal and rap fans are purists and won't touch anything else.

I like rap, actually. Canadian and hardcore (Eminem, Ice Cube,) are my favorites. Some of the selections here are very good, like "Points of Authority", a remix I prefer to the original, and the remix of "My December," also quite good.

All in all, if you want to try something new, or are a Linkin Park fan, by all means, buy this. If you are new to the band, try Hybrid Theory instead. You will not regret it.

  • CD averages out w/ highs and lows
    By A2P6LKDDDVNHHX on 2002-09-16
First off let me start by saying i never bought Hybrid Theory, i have however heard all their singles on the radio a thousand times. In case u didnt know, this cd isn't a cd full of new linkin park songs, it is however their songs from hybrid theory remixed or "reanimated". For those ppl who dislieke this concept just dont buy the cd and wait for their new cd to come out. Let me point out i also am a big fan of techno and techno remixes of music. I think it adds a new level to the song, not necessarily better or worse but ads a new feel, and i think this cd does that quite well for the most part. Songs like Pts.Of.Athrty, By_Myself, and 1Stp Klosr really embody this kind of music well. I love and hate this cd for it though, b/c w/ the good comes the bad, and some of the remixed songs in my opinion are stripped of their beauty, such as Enth e nd (especially). I really wish they wouldnt have hired some rappers to dub over the song, b/c let me say, i dont think they had even heard the song b4. I mean come on, is the little "yo,yo,yo" intro necessary? (grits teeth). Well anyways, the cd halfway redeems itself w/ some masterful tracks. The remix of "crawling" may be the very best of them all, and ends the cd well. If your not a huge fan of rap/techno/or remixes for that matter but dont have hybrid theroy i would suggect it instead, if u already own hybrid theory pick this up only if ur open minded or just love linkin park. In short "a very surprising and interesting" release. Although a small disappointment in my mind.

  • You've got to be kidding me
    By AJKWF4W7QD4NS on 2002-10-04
Most remix albums are one of two things: something to tide fans over until a new release is put out, or just one of the fulfilments on the band's record contract. Not to mention most remix albums that are released can't live up to par of the album that they are remixed from (a few exceptions would be White Zombie's "Supersexy Swingin' Sounds" or Marilyn Manson's "Smells Like Children"). "Reanimation" is a remix collecton of Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" featuring remixes from a bevy of nu-metal musicians and hip-hoppers. First off, "Hybrid Theory" was one of the most overrated and unoriginal albums I have ever had the displeasure of hearing. It was never metal, it was wanna-be-heavy made for radio watered down rock with downtuned guitars, turntables, terrible drumming, and repetitive lyrics. Since it was such a smash, a remix album didn't surprise me. All of these remixes (or whatever you want to call them, but remixes is what they are and you all know it) are nothing special, no matter whose name is saddled with remixing it. "Reanimation" is nothing more than a quick cash in for Linkin Park while they're recording they're next crowd pleasing album which is sure to sell 10 million plus copies no matter what. Another thing is "Reanimation" carries the full price of a regular album. 20 tracks of remixes or not, I have seen other remix albums that have just as many tracks that are half the price of this, and after noting that now I am completely positive this is just a quick cash in attempt. I even know some Linkin Park fans that aren't happy with this. Hopefully more people will come to realize that this isn't "heavy metal" or "hard rock" (I love seeing pictures from LP's concerts in magazines and seeing kids with the devil ears in the air; that makes me laugh so much), this is musical fodder that is better left to be used as target practice in a skeet shoot rather than a CD.

  • A true reanimation.
    By A2SKA3C34M02VV on 2004-12-05
The remix album is often frowned upon, as most of the time, it's just the same vocals over a new beat which sucks more than the original. This album, however, is a different story.

Like many aspects of their music, Linkin Park went all-out on this 'reanimated' album, breaking down familiar hits and not-so-familiar ones into a different animal. Reanimation truely shows the creative side of the band and their tastes in music.

From orchestrated performances to rock song turned hip-hop, it's all here. Ever wanted to hear In The End turned into a hip-hop song? Done. A redone beat, new lyrics, and collaboration with Motion Man make this mosh song into a hip-hop head nodder. The fast-paced Forgotten gets an interesting twist as everything has slowed down into a less-rash rap song, with a guest appearance from Chali 2na, of Jurassic 5 fame.

But for those who enjoyed LP's rock side, there's no lack of that either. The reanimated Pushing Me Away is a classic song that is even better than the original. The new chorus along with new vocals from Stephen Richards makes this possibly the best remix on the album. However, the last 3 tracks of the album take the cake.

In Hybrid Theory, the song 'Cure For The Itch' was a strange affair, from the very beginning sounding like a showcase of scatching skills and a very laid back beat. The treated version of it is possibly the most changed of the lot; something you might possibly hear in a club. Unlike the first, the reanimated version is danceable/break-able.

One Step Closer and Crawling, two of the most successful songs on LP's debut, have been broken down into two emotional pieces. One Step Closer gets an urban/jungle feel to it, with a new atmospheric intro that sets a whole new tone to the piece. Crawling gets a string orchestra put to it, creating an emotional and climactic end to an already great album. Both tracks blow the rest out of the water in length; both come in at over 5:30 each.

As a whole, Reanimation is not just a remix album. It's a look into the creative minds and outlet of a band once thought to be one of the most "corporate" bands in existence, and prove that, like their debut album title suggests, Linkin Park is truely a hybrid of a different sort.

  • Good mix of redone beats and some rapping
    By A2AAVFJK66FUI6 on 2006-05-18
Ok, let's get one thing straight: Linkin Park is not trying to be super-heavy or anything, they're just doing their thing. I like Linkin Park since I like scratching and turntables and stuff like that. But when I heard about who was on the album (Backyard Bangers,The Humble Brothers, Zion, Aceyalone, and tons more), I wasn't so sure that LP could blend its sound with more DJ/techno influences of each song. But, when I listened to it for the first time, I was amazed. They did a good job of refreshing each track and added some verses from the guests on each song. Some of the remixes were better than the original songs themselves. Even if you don't like a whole lot of techno and turntables in your music, I still recommend buying this.

  • not your run-of-the-mill 'remix' album
    By on 2006-10-15
most bands put out a remix album when they need to buy time between albums. this is not true with linkin park. although its not truly new material, its good enough that i'd almost consider it a 3rd album. some of the remixes surpass the originals, like enth e nd and 1stp klosr. the 'guest stars' are incredible, even the ones you've never heard of. i guess i'm a little biased towards jonathan davis because i love korn, but his part in 1stp klosr is one of the hightlights of the album. closed-minded linkin park fans will not like this, because of all the rap, when they don't even realize that linkin park has rap in it to begin with.

  • Worth the wait!
    By A1KZSDE0DBYTHA on 2002-07-31
I picked this CD up at Best Buy today, and it was better than I thought! The 12 tracks taken from the Hybrid Theory CD have been redone beautifully, and most of them feature guests such as Aaron Lewis and Jonathan Davis. The other 8 tracks aren't much to talk about, as they're basically 30-second musical interludes or listening to messages on Mike Shinoda's answering machine, but there are remixes of "My December," "High Voltage," and a track by the X-ecutioners that resembles "Cure for the Itch."

Overall, it's a great buy, and I highly recommend it, but it would've been nice if they had a couple new songs just for the album.

  • From Rock to Rap
    By on 2002-08-08
Linkin Park's new CD "Reanimation" is much different than their first Cd "Hybrid Theory". I love "Hybrid Theory"! None of the songs ever get old no matter how many times I listen to it. A great rock/rap album. "Reanimation" focuses mostly on the rap side of Linkin Park. They traded in their guitars for turn tables. That makes this album less appealing to me, a rock fan. I give this album 4 stars for two reasons: The guest apperances by people like Korn's Jonathan Davis and Staind's Aaron Lewis and the creativity. They added some great new lyrics and sounds. I don't recommend this album to anyone who dislikes rap, hip hop, or techno. For a strict rock fan, this CD will disappoint you and probably make you lose some respect for Linkin Park as a rock group (If the airplay they get on popular radio and the Nsync fans loving them hasn't already done that for you.)

  • Re-animation Re-invintes the Re-mix!
    By A2UC5UEE4RIDQ7 on 2002-08-21
For those who haven't had the chance to pick this album up yet, or have yet to decide on purchasing it, or for that matter, have never even truly heard Linkin Park, then I suggest you pick this album up the first chance you get.

The odd-tempo and techno-like rock beats and turntable mixes we have come to expect from Linkin Park have been fed acid, caffeine, uppers and downers, and the talent of some of the industries best mixers, producers, cutters, and mixers. On of the songs that stands out on the track is the deep, dark, and emotional Crawling track now entitled "Krwling," which is mixed by Mike Shinoda and features some vocal from Aaron Lewis. The dark, hard, and sharp feeling are once again delivered in a methodical like beat, with a beautiful twist of violins, and the softly exposed voice of Staind frontman, Aaron Lewis.

"Pts.Of.Athrty" is totally reedited and remixed to bring a new tempo with loud snare and symbol shots, along with an eerie "ghostly like" cut-in, along with echoing vocals and soft to hard, slow to fast like beats. This song dissolves your mind, enhances your senses, and totally embodies you in its sound and vocals.

"ENTH E ND" reminds me of the Method Man/Fred Durst remix of N2Gether Now...Close enough I suppose. With the lyric changes, and voice-ins by Motion Man, this track is definitely improved for the more hip-hop attentive audience. This is one of the tracks that definitely gives truth to the album's name, Reanimation.

"By_myslf" has added lyrics, clarity, and an electric guitar over-lacing that gives the song a Euro-Rock like sound that you would expect to be on the "Swordfish" soundtrack.

"MY-Dsmbr" is a track that was released on the overseas album of the "Hybrid Theory" album. The songs soft and elegant melody and vocals, compliments of Chester, offer up something that most avid Linkin Park fans aren't used to hearing. The songs lyrics and tone send chills down your spine, and emotional thoughts swirling in your head as you capture the song's intent and focus.

Overall, Reanimation is a definite must for Linkin Park fans, and intuitive music lovers of all kinds. For those who are getting restless in hearing the upcoming album by Linkin Park, this one will have to be a must-have, in that it brings you new tracks, new lyrics, and a whole new feeling and sense to how you hear and experience Linkin Park.

  • better than the original
    By A36KX1BGXG89G9 on 2004-12-03
Reamination implies remixes, and that is precisely what this CD offers. The majority of tracks appear on 2000's Hybrid Theory, a fairly standard issue rap-rock cd. However, the remixed songs and new songs made for the album blow away anythuing done on the debut. Linkin Park put their songs in the capable hands of the best of the business, throwing in electronic and hip-hop elements for a much more balanced sound. The beats are heavier, the sound more dense, and guitars and bass lines actually harder. Each song is expertly mixed, employing the most potent riffs and vocals from the originals in much more concentrated form. Mike Shinoda's voice compliments talented rappers like Black Thought, Pharoe Monch, Aceyalone, and Chali2na. Likewise, Chester Bennington gets help from Jonathan Davis and others in the hard rock industry. Furthermore, the lyrics vary from the original versions which allows them to escape from the usual pitfalls of the rap-rock genre: angst filled post relationship rants and self hate. The soft track My December throws off the furious and intense pace of the track, with a throughly enjoyable laid back and reflective track. The final two tracks both clock in at well over 5 minutes and include breath taking intros and fantastic instrumentation. Krwlng especially has a meloncholy, yet majestic feel and epic quality that perfectly sums up the album. Overall an excellent album that has very few flaws, and ia much more enjoyable than the straight ahead rock rap debut. In fact, if you are not a fan of the rap-rock genre but want to give Linkin Park a chance, this is the best place to start.

  • Split Nicely, Combined Perfectly
    By A1E9MPWWORIFPT on 2005-01-03
LP's done it again. They've released another disc that totally rules. I wouldn't say that I'm a rap fan, but Linkin Park makes rap sound good.

They seem to have split the album into halves. The first half is the rapper's side, and the second half is the rocker's side. The first half has a mostly rap feel to it, but has heavy guitars with it to keep it from going all-out rap. The music is awesome in FRGT/10, as it accents the lyrics very well and makes it the most awesome rap song that I've heard since "Come With Me". They use the same tactics in the other rap songs, aswell. The [RIFF RAFF] cuts the halves nicely; it makes it very easy to cross from rap to rock.

On the rock side (second half), they focus more on heavy funk/rock phrases and wicked beats to keep the album rollin'. Songs like 'BY MYSLF' and '1STP KLOSR' are very heavy tunes that can easily become the favorite for us metal fans out there. Jon Davis doesn't blow his top in 1STP KLOSR (Like he does in most KoRn songs), and actually sounds like he belongs in it. KRWLNG is a good cool-down song, and makes you want to hit the loop button.

If there is any problems with it, it would be 'ENTH E ND'. It doesn't really appeal to me, because it is pure rap. But that's just me.

As a bonus, the PTS.OF.ATHRTY video on the CD-ROM part of the CD is wicked awesome. Be sure to have Quicktime so you can watch it!

Overall, this is probably my favorite LP album. It has a pretty psychadelic feel to it, which keeps you awake and listening. All the songs are very different, which is a plus. I say, buy it. Buy it now.

  • Reanimation is even better...WAY better
    By A3Q1FVRV0CRYTH on 2005-11-04
WOW...I got this CD and was just FLOORED at how much DIFFERENT this CD was than Hybrid Theory. This is not just songs with a new rap or a different bridge...These are brand new songs with different beats and different lyrics and AMAZING guest spots. Ever better than the original!

    1. Opening - I love the violins here in the open and in the close...very serene and just set the tone. Linkin Park is such a unique band that plays on every facet of music...very talented band

    2. Pts. Of Athrty (Feat. Jay Gordon of Orgy) - I was not a fan of the original, but this is one awsome song...Orgy did good.

    3. Enth E Nd (Feat Kutmasta Kurt & Motion Man) - I hated In The End as well, and as much as I think this is a supperior version it's still one of the weakest on the CD

    4. Chali - An intro, Chali on the tellie

    5. Frgt/10 (Feat. Alchemist & Chali 2na) - GREAT SONG, darker than the original, real gangsta :P

    6. P5hng Me A*wy (Feat. Stephen Richards of Taproot) - Awsome...I did feel that the chorus was a little lacking...I would have aranged it a little different so that Chester souded slightly more melodic...

    7. Plc.4 Mie Haed (Amp Live Remix Feat Zion Of Zion I) - One of the best on the album...perfect song and a great club song

    8. X-ecutioner Style (X-Ecutioners Feat. Black Thought) - I love it, just wish it weren't edited

    9. H! Vltg3 (Feat. Evidence, DJ Babu & Pharoahe Monch) - Hate it

    10. Riff Raff - Another teliphone message

    11. Wth>You (Feat. Chairman Hahn & Aceyalone) - Great reinvisionment of this song. I kinda like the origional a little better, but I'm a little pregudice there.

    12. Ntr/Mssion - Just as the name says, just an intermission

    13. PPr:Kut (Feat. Rasco & Planet Asia) - LOVE IT, Planet Asia has one of the coolest rap voices...he just nails it here

    14. Rnw@y (Feat. Backyard Bangers & Phoenix Orion) - One of the best songs here

    15. My{Dsmbr - The original is MUCH BETTER!!!

    16. Stef - Another tele message

    17. By_Myslf (Remixed by Josh Abraham & Mike Shinoda Feat. Stephen Carpenter of The Deftones) - Close to my favorite song here...I listen to this ALL THE TIME!!! Great song and way better than the origional!!!

    18. Kyur4 Th Ich - Just some mad DJin skills here...like the predesesson just longer

    19. 1stp Klosr (The Humble Brothers Remix Feat. Jonathan Davis of KoRn) - AWSOME...FLAWLESS...GREAT TRIBUTE TO A GREAT FIRST SINGLE

    20. Krwlng (Feat. Aaron Lewis of Staind) - The best on the CD...Easily my favorite Linkin Park song ever...And this version is just another awsome song...they are great rivals for the top... My only regret is that Aaron Lewis doesn't sing as much as I'd like him too...Screw Chester, let Aaron sing the song...

    Awsome...
    Buy it!

  • Linkin Park navigates uncharted territory with ease
    By A1FO1X9EMR30J on 2002-08-01
Who can forget the awesome Hybrid Theory album Linkin Park released a few years ago. Well if you think you'll get the same sound by getting REANIMATION, you just may be in for a big suprise. But don't worry, Reanimation is money very well spent. For those of you who are not familiar with Linkin Park, you may put this CD on and say..."hmm..what's this?" But I have a feeling that you will quickly learn to love this very unique album. And for all you verteran Linkin Park fans out there...you will immediately value the beauty of REANIMATION..especially since you'll know where all these songs originally came from. Just about every song sounds different than the original version in some way or another but they will surely please the ears and mind of any true Linkin Park fan. And I give a Linkin Park a big salute for adding My December and High Voltage to Reanimation. These two songs were from back in the day when the band was known as Hybrid Theory and does nothing but add to Linkin Park's credibility as being one of the best bands in the world. So sit back, relax, and absorb this wonderfully put together piece of art. You will soon agree with me that it will be well worth your time.

  • BETTER than Hybrid Theory
    By A2K150EBPF8LT7 on 2002-08-06
Even though my name is hiphopforlife, I am also a rock fan , and one of my favorite bands is Linkin Park. I thought Hybrid Theory was somewhat original in mixing rap and rock and also electronica and some techno, and was a great album. I picked up Reanimation and was blown away! This is not only the best remix album out now, this is the greatest remix album of all time! (And as a longtime rap fan, I've heard a LOT of remix albums). Rather than do their hits over, they redid the whole album again, and completely different than than first, with a hip hop feel to it.And unlike the other wack remix albums, that feature wack producers like the Neptunes and weak rappers like P. Diddy, they got some of the underground's finest like Pharoahe Monch, the Roots Black Thought, Evidence of Dilated Peoples amd Chali 2Na of the Jurassic 5.The rock fan won't be dissapointed as alternative rock and metal's best frontmen show up like Staind's Aaron Lewis, Korn's Johnathan Davis and Orgy's Jay Gordon. this is fantastic work, and any hip hop, rock or music fan should have this. Bravo, Linkin Park!

  • WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK
    By A17R6EU4ZYGT8F on 2002-09-18
when i heard linkin park was going to make a remix album of hybrid theory, i knew it was going to be bad. all remix albums are bad, so my friend fei xenogear (also posted here) let me borrow his copy of reanimation...and i was right, it has to be the worst album i have ever heard...i'd rather listen to my sisters copy of TLC's fan mail, i didn't think anything could be as bad as that, guess i was wrong

  • Nearly unlistenable, where is the sophmore release?
    By AZSN1TO0JI87B on 2002-09-18
Linkin Park are one of those bands that I thought would sound perfect doing a remix CD. They have the right sound, and their songs are getting so darn worn out, it would be nice to have a change. However, this CD (sans a few cuts) is just plain awful. Even the respectable guest list can't save this tragedy, including the Roots' Black Thought, Korn's Jonathan Davis, Staind's Aaron Lewis, Pharoahe Monch, Sneaker Pimps' Kelli Ali, The X-Ecutioners, well, the list could go one for miles, it would be quicker if I told you who WASN'T on this CD (even Marilyn Manson did a remix of By Myself that didn't make the cut). All of the songs just sound like pure cacophony. The songs in their "reinterpreted" form are just plain useless. Lyrics are turned upside down, completely changed and overall, GHETTO-IZED! To be honest with you, the only remixes I enjoyed were Wth>You (LP's own DJ Hahn & Aceyalone), 1stp Klosr (Humble Brothers & Jon Davis) and the absolutely STELLAR Krwlng (With all new vocals by Aaron Lewis of Staind, he really saves this CD from being a throwaway. This is better than the original version). I don't really get much out of this CD. It's sort of like a good idea gone very, very bad. It's also sort of a cop-out to the fans. I mean, c'mon, the ... CD has been out for 2 years, you've squeezed like 6 singles out of it already, now go record something new. I'll be waiting.

  • Bigger, darker and meaner, Hybrid Theory is back...
    By A1OOQ94LR59IZE on 2002-09-28
I liked 'Hybrid Theory' a lot. When I heard that 'Reanimation' was merely 'HT' remixed, I was extremely sad, as I had been looking forward to a follow-up album.
    Then I heard 'Reanimation.'
And realized it's a new breed of Linkin Park.
Completely sliced, diced and blended through high-tech mixing equipment and resung by many of rock and hip-hops top dogs, 'Reanimation' is a darker, meaner, more idustrial look at the pop-ish 'HT.' While some of the songs stick fairly close to their roots ('Points of Authority' and 'With You' spring to mind), others take entirely new paths, and 'In The End,' you've got an almost entirely new spin on Linkin Park's music that is well worth the price of admission. 'My December', 'One Step Closer', 'Crawling' and 'Runaway' stand out as the cream of the crop, while 'In The End' almost seems ruined in its new hip-hop style. However, fans of Linkin Park will appreciate the refreshed style, even if it is the same music. So if you're looking for a 'Cure For the Itch,' 'Reanimation' is just what the doctor ordered.
NOTE: 'My December' alone is possibly the best remix in the history of music. Never before have I heard a track remixed somehow maintain ALL of the best elements of the original, and yet gain something even more with the remix. Be sure to check it out.

  • My favorite band not at its best
    By A14HU8CP2UST9N on 2003-04-19
Linkin Park is my favorite band, and I'm trying to be as objective as possible. I also in general have a strong dislike of remix albums, so I wasn't entirely enthused about the prospect of their doing a remix after one album.

That said, there are some great strengths and some definite misses here.

What's good? "P5hng Me A*wy," which features Stephen Richards of Taproot, is darker and in my opinion better than the original - remarkable considering "Pushing Me Away" was one of my favorites off "Hybrid Theory." Ditto for "Krwlng," starring Aaron Lewis of Staind - the two brilliant vocalists play off each other beautifully.

The end of "Plc.4 Mie Haed," which includes Chester screaming followed by absolutely brilliant, but sad piano, is my single favorite moment of the whole CD. "Frgt/10" and "By_Myslf" are worth checking out as well. I have mixed feelings on "1stp Klosr," the original of which really just never have been remixed..this version is alright. Finally, the flow from one song to the best is nothing short of beautiful.

Now for the bad. "Enth E Nd" is one of the most disappointing things I have ever heard in my life." Putting the song over a rap beat killed the build-up of the song I loved in the original - and Motion Man is the worst rapper I've maybe ever heard. The song is just hollow.

Lyrics are weaker than off HT throughout - "Find a place/ to feed your face" - awful lyrics that don't fit the vibe of the song whatsoever. "Pts. Of Athrty," "H!," "Wth>You," "Rnw@y," and "My{Dsmbr" all don't add anything to the originals IMO, and in many cases, take away from the originals. "PPr:Kut" is my 2nd least favorite after "Enth E Nd." I'm not a fan of most of the featured artists, at least one of whom can be found on every song.

And I really hate the song titles, especially after writing this review.

Overall, there are a few standout tracks. Unfortunately, doing a remix so fast was the wrong call. A few of the best here, and a few well-remixed songs off Meteora and a 3rd album, and I could be writing a 5-star review. However, there is a fair amount of filler here, a rare weakness for an otherwise great band!
