  • Easy to use

If you purchase a notebook computer for yourself or a college-bound child and it doesn't come with a floppy drive (which is becoming more and more common today), then buy this LaCie drive. You just plug it into the USB port. There's nothing to install. Windows will find the drive and away you go!

  • Excellent Work Saver

    By AVBFGFL4E7JHF on 2004-11-02
Recently I bought a computer which doesn't have a floppy drive at all. Considering the floppies full of info I collected over eight years, I was dismayed! So last Friday I came across this product - after considerable comparison - and ordered it. It cost only $25.34 at the time. I chose the super saver shipping - 5 to 9 days - ad here I have it today, Tuesday, already. Using Windows XP, I didn't need the installation CD. I just plugged the USB cord in and that was it. However, there was no automatic ikon on the desktop, so I thought it didn't work. I searched My Computer's Hardware listing and found my new floppy drive..dragged the ikon over onto the desktop, and all was well. It works! It's lightweight and looks like a slim cigarette case...it's fragile. You shouldn't shake it, and the humidity in the room may be a problem, but one can take precautions.
I'm very happy with the price, the fast service, and the way it works. Even at today's higher list price, it still is a steal.

I'm really relieved to know I can access all of my old floppies.

  • Easy to use!!

    By A3UA0PM9VPD85A on 2004-10-25
I got it, plugged it in and it works! And no power cord is great since I need to take it to school and that's just one less thing I need to carry around. Can't express how pleased I am (especially when you look at the price)!

  • Great Value

    By A37JNUJSVAJKYN on 2004-03-07
If your one of those people who need a floppy drive but got a new computer that no longer comes with a floppy drive this drive should be it. Just plug it in to your Mac and your ready to use it. The price cannot be matched either, I looked around my local electronics, office, discount stores and they could not match Amazons price theres were at least $10 - $15 more.

  • Floppy Disk drive

LaCie Floppy Disk drive works fine on Apple G5 with Mac OS X version 10.3.9.

  • Very simple and works great
    By AC5TPKVID01OJ on 2004-05-29
I didn't even have to install drivers (Windows), it just comes right up and works perfectly. Be aware that it's a "high power" USB device so a bus-powered USB port may not have enough power to support it.

  • Works as advertised

I plugged it in and XP recognized without a problem. Very nice product. I tried a CompUSA model first and XP would not reliably recognize it. I would avoid CompUSA models at all costs.

  • If you really need floppy discs
    By A31TAK69LGZJIY on 2005-09-25
Occasionally I just have to use them, but Macs no longer come with a floppy disc drive This fits the bill and requires no software - just plug in to the USB porrt and its ready to use. It's a bit slow, but perhaps that's just the floppies and they were always slow, it's hard to remember once you get used to the speed of CDs. When I finally use up all my old discs (not long now!) I wan't miss them.

    By A50U19CAGZDJG on 2005-09-07
My iMac G5 does not have a floppy drive. I needed a USB floppy drive so I could create documents on my G5 and use them in my older computer and to create floppies on my older computer or take existing files from my older computer and move them to my G5 for use. I selected the LaCie because of it's reputation.

  • A handy device for us Luddites
    By A2S8IMR2NZFKAD on 2005-08-10
The external USB floppy disk drive by LaCie (Model 706018) allows me and my office staff to transfer files from computer to computer without using burdensome and slow CD R/W routines. We also find it easier to exchange files this way than by attaching those files to e-mail messages. The LaCie unit does not require a separate power source, it immediately is "found" and is operable as soon as it is plugged into the Windows XP (Home)system, and operates quietly and reliably. The price was reasonable for the utility of the device, and "included" delivery (rather than express) was sufficiently quick for our purposes.

  • Works exactly like it should
    By A31XNCNDCMX2H7 on 2006-01-26
I have one at work and now one at home. Does exactly what you would expect with no issues. Let me save you some grief though...If you are trying to boot from the floppy and need to set your BIOS to have the floppy drive first in the boot order, make sure you have the USB floppy drive plugged in before powering the computer and entering the BIOS setup. If you don't the computer will not see that a floppy is available and will not give you the choice of booting from it. Hope this helps.

  • Just plug it in!
    By on 2004-07-02
This item works perfectly fine in all respects with my Presario 3045 laptop... just plug it into the USB port and XP auto-detects it immediately! Great item, great price!

  • Great drive
    By A3EQ61ES6HQ090 on 2006-06-06
My purpose for finding an external drive was probably different from most people's - I needed a drive that would work on Linux (SuSE, specifically), and I needed to copy files between a Linux machine and an old 8-bit MSX computer, which only accepts double-density diskettes. I'm happy to say that not only does the drive work flawlessly with Linux, I had no problem writing/reading double-density diskettes between the two machines. If you're looking for a drive that reads/writes double-density diskettes, and/or one that works with Linux, look no further

Super easy to set up! I have a laptop with Windows XP. All I did was unpack the box, plug it into my laptop and away I go! Trust me if I can do this, anyone can! Works great! I'm glad I don't have to go to the library and spend hours transfering all my pics and files to discs now!

LaCie 706018 USB Ext Floppy Disk Drive

After looking at several external 3.5¨floppy drives, I finally settled on this one based on the favorable reviews of previous buyers and the not so favorable reviews of people who had bought other, cheaper, drives. I was not disappointed. The drive works like a charm in both Mac and Windows XP environments. I highly recommend it.

  • LaCie Floppy
    By A2GZ35IGD2YN25 on 2008-01-07
I became concerned when Vista refused to recognize this drive (after XP and 98 had recognized it on other machines), but it worked fine on my second try. Nice product: very sturdy and works as it should, without needing a driver for XP or Vista.

  • LaCie Floppy Drive
    By A182DF2YVUKGJV on 2005-08-11
I Just needed a floppy to create floppy disks for work on a PC from a Mac. The LaCie Drive plugged into the USB right out of the box without any hangups. I highly recommend any product that is as easy to use as this drive.

  • Very Good External USB Floppy Drive!
    By A2WEPL6I2L1TTL on 2006-01-25
It is a reliable product which works just fine with my Toshiba laptop running Windows XP Home edition.

I simply plugged it into my laptop's USB port and Windows XP automatically recognized it like it was always there.
So no drivers are needed for Windows XP.

Product is supplied with drivers on CD for Windows 98.
Although floppies are not much in use anymore, it is still nice to have this external USB floppy drive to lookup for some older archives kept on floppies or to read floppies brought by friends or relatives to print things out.

It is a bit expensive but considering overall quality it worth the money you pay for it. If I had to choose again I would go with the same product again.

  • Super small, super easy
    By A3SSI2IY96HHP8 on 2007-05-26
I ordered the LaCie 706081 USB Ext floppy disk drive after comparing it to several others. As for another customer, per his review, it works great! Flawless right out of the box. Since I also have a Mac as well as my PC, I wanted a disk drive that would work with both. I have been extremely satisfied. My grandson is now able to do his homework, started on his home or school computer and saved on a floppy because I have this drive. For simple quick back ups of small data files, it can't be beat! And the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend the LaCie product.

  • No nonsense disk drive for "old" and some new tasks

This is a very useful and reliable product for the money. I now have two of these, one at home and one at work.

  • Easy To Use Superb External Floppy Drive
    By AKT8TGIT6VVZ5 on 2007-05-03
I recently acquired a Pentium III laptop which doesn't have an internal 3.5" drive, and frankly, I was in a slight state of panic, wondering what I would do with the floppy disks I've acquired through the years. Much to my relief, salvation has come in the form of the LaCie 706018 USB External Floppy Drive. This is an extremely well made, easy to use product. It's so easy, that it is quite literally a "plug and play" device, which I could add to my laptop via its USB port either while the computer was already on ("hot") or off ("cold"). In a matter of mere seconds I was able to copy files on a floppy disk onto my laptop's hard disk and vice versa. I've checked prices for this particular unit, and the best price is offered now by Amazon.com. So if you are in need of an external 3.5" floppy drive, then don't hesitate to buy it now from Amazon.com.

  • Just what we needed.
    By A3EHAWYT5WBNOV on 2007-05-13
I bought a new computer and of course it does not have a floppy drive. My daughter still uses them at school. So Voila! Amazon solves the problem as usual. This just plugged right in, we didn't even need the included set-up cd included. This works excellent and is so nice and small, easy to store in a drawer until needed. Fast shipping as usual.

  • LaCie External Floppy Disk Drive
    By AF2L77SU43KDL on 2007-09-14
Very nice! If you are running under Windows XP,2000, or Me it works with the standard built in drivers. Just plug it in and you are ready to go. A new 3 1/2 Floppy disk icon will appear in your "My Computer" folder. The unit looks much better than it's picture and has a nice solid feel to it. Also, it comes with a USB cable, so don't get caught up in buying another one.

  • Didn't last
    By A1CR7GTCIF28OZ on 2007-12-13
Bought this item for use at the office. We rarely used it. After a few months, it just stopped working. It now makes a grinding noise when it tries to access any floppy disk. Next time, I'll try to buy something a little more reliable. Glad it worked for so many reviewers. Unfortunately, it didn't work very long for me, so I can't recommend it.

  • Just What I Needed
    By A16YPP0VVGEHLM on 2008-02-01
I do a lot of writing and I save everything on floppy disks. But my old computer which had a floppy disk drive installed on it broke, and I bought a new computer which to my surprise didn't have a floppy disk drive. When I saw the LaCie floppy disk drive online, I ordered it and it was just what I needed. I'm thinking of purchasing a second one to go on a second computer. I don't know why a lot of these new computers don't have floppy disk drives installed on them? The next time I buy a computer I will make sure that it does have one.

  • Outstanding

It not only works perfect, but is built to match my iMac. Great product.

  • Floppy Disk Drive

I have many of the disks I still wanted to use.
The LaCie drive is handy and simple to use.
