Disney's Greatest 3x$7.97
    (15 reviews)
Best Price: $7.97
Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Great music...but save a bundle with the 5-disc set! By on 2002-08-21
This CD is great. It has both old and new Disney classics. But...for a little more money you can get all these songs and about 80 more. The 5 disc set sold here at Amazon has 99 Disney classics and sells for about the price of 2 CDs. The 5 disc set includes songs such as Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the no-longer released Song of the South, songs from the theme parks like the Electric Light Parade theme, It's a Small World from the NY World's Fair...it has them all! Buying the CDs seperately you probably spend twice as much + shipping; save some money--the 5-CD set is the way to go.
Some gems, some duds By A1VMF77TPZSXKV on 2003-12-01
The previous two volumes of this series, chosen by Leonard Maltin and graced by his excellent liner notes, were enough draw to make me buy this one "for my son." Unfortunately, Maltin wasn't involved in this one, and it shows.I am glad I have it - if only to keep from buying the full soundtracks of all these movies just to get a clean copy of Pat Carroll singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (Little Mermaid) or "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" (Aristocats) or Elfman's fabulous "What's This?" (Nightmare Before Christmas). I suspect most folks will do what I did, and buy the CD because a few of the tunes still resonate - and there's plenty of power here for that. The "Siamese Cat Song" certainly isn't great art, but it transports me back to child state - where I feel I'm listening to my scratchy old 45 - quicker than you can say "Fess Parker." I appreciate that the compiler - Ted Kryczko - stuck with Maltin's winning formula of old and new. But his sense of drama and pacing aren't the best. Yes, the Jonatha Brooke and Sarah MacLachlan cuts - featured one and two on the set - are pretty and sweet. I'm sure it's frustrating that these great cuts didn't get heard enough, because the movies were weak. You still don't start with them. Lead with your strengths. Oh yes, the 6-year-old does appreciate it, but prefers volumes 1 and 2. (Nearly forgot my cover, there.)
Mostly a dud, unfortunately... By A2OUHMQP1BTLED on 2005-07-13
Disney, in my opinion, dropped the ball for the third installment of the disney classics CDs (which is probably why you only see 1 and 2 advertised on TV). The only tracks really worth it are "I'll Try" (although I have no idea what that is from) and "He lives in you". Other than that, most of the tracks are boring and no up to the level most of the others are. I would not suggest purchasing this cd.
Not my favorite of Disney's greatest... By AAH8LVF6DA0CF on 2005-08-26
Ok OK I know its Disney and allthough I praised the first two Disneys Greatest I didn't like this Cd as much. It seems that they have taken all the leftover Disney songs and put them on this CD. My daughter loves this CD no matter what and I guess if it makes her happy so am I.
In all I found only 5 songs worthy to be on Disney's greatest CD while the others are b- class.
I am sure that hard core Disney collectors don't want this CD missing from their collection but I recommend to rent the CD first to see if its worth your money.
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2 By A3NNVK7ZZ5NHN1 on 2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them
- Disney Collection Vol. 3

Good, but not as good as volume 1. Would have preferred more of the recent Disney Classics as they are more fun to sing along with. Ditto for volume 2.

- Timeless Disney Music
     By AT22XS4HE6SOK on 2007-05-06
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
