was getting sick but not now! By A2VD6HR52KKFI7 on 2004-10-09
My twins have been very sick this past week 10/10/04
I knew I was going to get their bad cold. but I remembered I had heard about Airborne. SO I bought some and tried it!
It worked! I didn't get sick! I started to get sick.. but them I started to take this and I got all better!
The taste was not bad. I was going to drink fast and just deal with the taste but didn't have to. I really liked it! It worked for my husband as well! It is a bit of $$ but worth it! I have bought more and will keep buying it!
I didn't think it would work.. but it did! I'm so happy I didn't get sick!!

Not a miracle cure, but a marvel of prevention! By A2JU4FUSW1PBEC on 2005-08-20
In a working environment where one person can infect the entire place with their cold, flu or other malady, Airborne is the answer to prevention. While it most certainly will NOT work in all cases, Airborne does do the trick, and I have managed to prevent sickness with this product before.
Case in point: I had to share a car with someone who was hacking, gagging, coughing and sneezing for the whole hour trip (30 minutes going, 30 minutes coming back). Of course, within an hour my body started feeling achey and I developed a headache. I took a break to head on over to the pharmacy to get some cough medicine, and wound up finding Airborne instead, which had come recommended to me by nearly a dozen people at this point. So, I followed the directions: 3 tablets in a day, taken at 3 hour intervals. By the next morning, I felt perfectly fine.
Much like an alka-seltzer, the Airborne tablet is dropped into a small amount of water and in a minute it is completely dissolved. The orange flavor isn't spectacular, but it isn't bad...almost like a flavored seltzer. It feels good going down and doesn't cause nausea or anything else. You won't feel better instantly, becuase it usually takes about 2 or 3 tablets total to get the full effect, but you WILL feel better. Chances are you might just stay with your minor symptoms, but other times you'll prevent the cold from setting in entirely!
Ever since I discovered this product about half a year ago, I have used it at the first sign of illness...headache, bodyache, stuffy nose, etc...and each time it has PREVENTED sickness from setting in. Results won't be typical for everyone of course, but it definitely works for me, and for that I'm grateful. However, I do see complaints from people claiming that it doesn't work. Most of the time, those complaints are coming from people that decided to take Airborne AFTER they already got sick, not at the FIRST SIGN, as the instructions clearly indicate. The only way it could be made more obvious is if they spent extra money on the packaging to make the words "First Sign" light up and make sounds. If you don't take this product when you first notice symptoms, it will NOT work. If you get a sudden onset of sickness overnight without symptoms, it will NOT work. This product doesn't cure, it prevents...huge difference.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who works in a large office environment, or frequently goes to crowded environments such as malls. Take it BEFORE you go into the area and you should be fine. In all other cases, the moment you start to feel awkward, take it to be safe. Just remember, before you start complaining that it doesn't work, Airborne is intended to prevent, not cure. It is also not very likely that Airborne will stop something more powerful such as a flu. This product works, and it works well.
Beware the aspartame! By A12Y5PKAUHH9YW on 2005-09-11
I have used this product a number of times and have recommended it to friends and family. However, I have stopped doing so without first mentioning that it contains ASPARTAME, a chemical additive I now avoid at all costs. I know many people avoid this dangerous chemical as well, so I can no longer recommend Airborne without this warning. Why don't they get rid of the chemical additives and just use a natural sweetner? After all, isn't the point of this product to use something "natural" to fight colds, rather than pop pills?
Modern Snake Oil! By A1TDQGGPIRLZT0 on 2006-03-02
There is absolutely, positively no empirical evidence that Airborne works. In fact, the company was recently forced to change the claims on their label because they couldn't provide any (ANY!!) supportive studies showing that the product did anything. It turns out their "offices" are little more than a home garage & the "CEO" runs from television cameras. You know the type!!
Your money is better spent on orange juice and a good mattress on which to get decent sleep. This product doesn't even warrant one star and Amazon is irresponsible in allowing this to be sold on their site. People who think it's had an effect on them aren't considering the variables of other underlying factors (i.e. they may have come in contact with less virulent cold viruses, might be sleeping better overall, getting more exercise, eating more healthly, etc.)
It Works By A1VCPMT1RRS7K0 on 2005-12-01
I started using Airborne about 2 years ago and I have not been sick since.
As soon as I begin feeling a sore throat or any cold-accompanying symptom coming on, I take an airborne to boost my system's natural defenses.
I am a firm believer in the power of this product. I barely even remember what it feels like to be sick. This is something everyone can benefit from. I give it my highest recommendation.
This is actually a great price for Airborne. They sell in the drugstores for $7.99 each. If the price remains the same ($15.99 for 3), this is a great deal.
- Know Your Ingredients
     By A1KVDYXCDNK5RZ on 2005-11-27
I am urging people to do some bit of research (as I am seeing others encourage, too) before popping "herbs and vitamins" to fight a cold virus. This product is becoming very popular simply by recommendation without any proof of efficacy.
Without FDA approval, one must be trusting and willing to risk any possible side effects. As others on this site have mentioned, there are certain ingredients in this product that may not agree with all individuals. Furthermore, certain vitamins (as with medications) take some time to reach an effective blood level. As a water-soluble vitamin, vitamin C needs to be taken well in advance of a cold to be an effective combatant to the virus (the theory is that vitamin C serves as a "cementing" substance for the cellular barrier, thereby resisting the RNA replication process performed by the virus within the cell that allows the virus to spread within the body). As an added warning, repeated excessive levels of vitamin C result in diarrhea for some individuals.
We are a trusting society, often willing to try highly marketed products with no foundation for success but with expectations for results. Perhaps the placebo factor is at play with trust involved or perhaps this product has some efficacy.
Either way, in order to be wise in their pursuit of the magic bullet for the common cold, my suggestion is that people do some research before simply popping vitamins and herbs.

- Fight off that cold!
     By AHPBS2J6I8RD9 on 2004-03-25
I love this product! I honestly believe that it's helped me fight off at least two colds this season. As soon as you feel that scratchy throat, itchy eyes, or sniffly nose...you just plop one tablet into a cup of water, let fizz for a minute, then drink. Repeat every three hours or so until the symptoms go away. It tastes pretty good too; something like an orange seltzer. And I swear, the stuff works! I also really like Zicam, but prefer this effervescent formula over Zicam's nasal gel. Try this, and see why stores can't keep it on the shelves!
- Made no difference whatsoever
     By A11MZ039Y4RGLF on 2005-07-29
I took these tablets for more than 6 months as I have persistent cold during winter months but, it made no difference. Would have spent atleast $100.00 on this. I tried exprimenting how long my cold lasts with and without airborne. Everytime, it took the same amount of time doesnt matter whether I took airborne or not. At best, it is a very expensive effervescent drink.
Also, be careful with the vitamin C dosage you are getting (one tablet contains more than 1600% of your recommended daily value) and most probably you are taking more than one tablet as recommended by the manufacturer. Such high dosage may result in diarrhea and kidney stones. You can read its effect by simply doing a "goole" search on side-effects of taking high dosage of vitamin C.
Better to be safe than sorry and BTW, it is not cheap either.
- Disappointing results and a little scary . . .
     By A3GT84MO4SLZ2Y on 2006-02-25
I recently took Airborne when I was feeling a cold coming on AND had to board a plane for a business trip several days later.
The cold had moved to my chest before I left on my trip and I didn't feel any better for over a week.
The scary part for me is that this stuff does not easily clean out of a glass. I have one glass that I ran through the dishwasher 6 times and there is still residue from this stuff. It has taken an immense amount of scrubbing to get this stuff off of my glasses. I am always leery about putting something in my body that doesn't come off a dish washed in super hot water with serious detergent!
Regarding the other comments about the amount of vitamins in the tablets. Extended use of large quantities of vitamin C have been linked to kidney damage - so I would be extremely cautious of taking this for longer than a couple of days . . .
- Wow! Herbal Power!
     By A28GEIVP5KQMZU on 2005-01-21
I was sitting in a meeting 2 days ago, with the sniffles - early warning of the onset of a cold. Fortunately, my Airborne order had recently moved through the Waiting List just to get the good tasting highly touted new Lemon-Lime miracle stuff. It lived up to the hype. The cold never took hold! Unlike that Other Plop-plop-fizz-fizz stuff, Airborne fights the cold - it's not just temporary relief of the symptoms. My advice: Stock up now, because Baby, it's cold outside, and there's still a lot of winter left. /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer.
- Don't Ever Stop Making This!
     By A1T2OTPV3E499C on 2004-02-29
I am a registered nurse and instruct adult nursing students on a high school campus. My 100+ students are under tremendous stress that decreases their immune systems, making them susceptible to the cesspool of germs in their surroundings. A day doesn't go by that I don't have some student sneezing, coughing, or blowing their nose. They must keep up with required attendance, which motivates them to come to school when they should really be home. I've started using Airborne at the first sign of a sniffle, or that subtle head congestion indicating more to come. I honestly feel I've avoided at least two colds over the last few weeks, alone, by using Airborne. I won't be without this product again! These people might just have found how to prevent the common cold!
- Doesn't Work
     By A13YZP86E2AO4O on 2004-12-30
I took this product when my wife was showing the first signs of a cold and flu and BEFORE I had any symptoms. Despite taking 20 tablets, per directions, I still caught my wife's cold and flu. Don't waste your money!
- Works for me
     By A2X2OFAH1FY29A on 2005-01-14
I'm a 48yo male with young children that bring home colds all the time. I experimented with zicam and airborne. My cold pattern goes like this - starts with my throat, then nasal, then ear and chest (cough). Whenever I use the airborne immediately upon the first symtom (throat tickles or mildly sore), the cold has never escalated. My dosage is 2 per day. One at first sign, then one in morning and one at night until throat iritation goes away (3 days). When I'm out of airborne, I get sick - real sore throat then nasal. Once I get sick, airborne does not work for me. I then use zicam. Zicam is harsh on my nose but so far (1 yr), I've never had a cold escalate to my chest, i.e. no coughing. Before, the cough could last up to 2 months. So I'm happy with this combination. I also take airborne when I'm going to a place where there is a lot of sick people coughing all over the place (i.e. the fitness center). So far, that has worked well. About zicam. For me, it never worked as a preventitive. But once I got sick, it stopped the cold from escalting. Hope this review helps someone.
- Cuttin' my colds down to size
     By A3OI841P5R6FCH on 2005-02-19
After hearing Howard Stern promote this product during breaks on his morning radio show, I decided to give Airborne a shot after I felt the early effects of a head cold comin' on. Now when I get head cold, it usually migrates down and becomes a chest cold, and can take up to two weeks for me to get over. However, when I used this product on my latest cold, I got over it in about five days, and the symptoms weren't quite as severe as they'd usually get.
The second and third times I used Airborne were for sore throats, which are almost always harbingers to a two-week-long case of bronchitis. This time 'round, each sore throat lasted a mere four days, and neither ever went beyond the point of being just mildly uncomfortable.
Needless to say, I've become a believer of this product's cold-reducing capabilities. The only thing that might be a turn-off is its price; one tube of ten Alka-Seltzer type tablets runs about seven to eight smackers in most retail stores. Fortunately, the Airborne folks presently offer a little incentive: buy six tubes, get one free through the mail (you'll need the UPCs from the tubes' packaging). Yay, I'm halfway there...
BTW I recommend the orange-citrus flavor over lemon-lime; I found the latter flavor kinda nasty...

- Made Us Sick
     By A559N1O12BR23 on 2006-02-12
Airborne was recommended to me by my sister. She and her husband have used it many times and had very good results. Unfortunantly, some of us have an unpleasant reaction to the formula. Both myself and another sister's husband have gotten sick from this tablet. We both experienced nausea and diarrhea very soon after taking the tablet. I had to miss a night class and lost 5 1/2 lbs. the night I took this. It also sent my brother-in law straight to bed. I think it did help a little with the cold, but because I couldn't take more tablets the cold came on anyway. I take many supplements and my guess is one or more of the herbs may cause this reaction in some people.
- Thankful This Product Exists!
     By A1Z2FO9VOQOFFF on 2005-01-18
I first began using airborne in early October right after I was the unhappy recipient of the worst cold I'd had in years. My husband caught it from me and our teenage son caught it from him (we really know how to share). :) I began feeling the *tingle* in the back of my nose and throat again and knew I was on the road to illness. My friend told me about this product and I figured I'd give it a shot. Her mother works in daycare and the workers there get everything the children bring in. The owner of the daycare invested in this product for her employees and there has not been a call off due to illness in over four months! After two doses, I no longer felt the dread - I felt great! During the winter months, it seems that no matter what we do, our son catches everything under the sun. He's been taking Airborne at the first symptoms of a cold, along with my husband and I, and we have all been cold free since October! This product is a true gift!
August 20, 2005 UPDATE: Almost a year and still no colds - for all of my family members. Our son is usually battling colds all winter and this year he had 100% school attendence. People in my office began using Airborne as well and for those who follow the directions and take when you get those FIRST SIGNS of a cold, they have remained healthy and cold free as well.
- TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN
     By A2KOOQINUMPGDZ on 2005-04-21
This is such a gimick. Take a multivitamin and drink some OJ. This is no more effective than these tried and true old fashioned methods. Read the ingredients label before buying! I wish I had!
- Save me countless times...
     By A24V689OSG9W8S on 2004-05-12
I heard about this from a teacher who used it and swore by it. I started taking it when I was traveling on planes for work . It saved me so many times... I usually take one every three hours when I fly and whenever I feel a cold coming on. I went from fighting every cold off to not having to worry about it. A drawback is that it isn't the cheapest prevention out there but it is cheaper then getting sick. I heard that the lemon/lime is a great flavor but I have never tried it.
- Why the artificial sweetner?
     By A1D63A1P3SVYTU on 2004-12-23
At first glance this seems like such a great product. Lots of herbs and other supplements. But if you read the small print on the back, bottom of the box... this product contains Acesulfame Potassium, for some people a controversial artificial sweetener. You won't see artificial sweeteners in any health food store supplements, and it makes me question the legitimacy of this product as an herbal supplment.
I would recommend instead of this product something like Alacer's Emer'Gen-C vitamin packets. They are sweetened with fructose and naturally flavored. Or Zicam Cold Remedy.
Good luck, and get well!
- Maybe a placebo but it works for me
     By AJ4HLY7C9DFVW on 2005-02-08
I've seen a few posts that wonder about the true medical powers of Airborne. All I can say, it works for me. There have been several times when I've felt run down, or that wierd, I can feel a cold coming on in the back of my throat feeling. I've taken a few Airborne over the day, though, and I don't get sick.
A few people have mentioned the taste, I think it tastes fine, kind of like Tang mixed with alka Seltzer maybe?
Bottom line, what have you got to lose? Compared to a lot of other things out there, all of the ingredients seem relatively safe for the small doses you're taken here, so why not try it?
- IT REALLY WORKS!!!
     By A3HETHW2XD3DWH on 2005-10-23
This is the first product that actually delivers on its promise -- it stops your cold in its tracks before it gets to be a full blown pain. I have avoided at least a dozen bouts with this great product and won't let my supply deplete when it's low. Just take one tablet dissolved completely in a small glass of cold water, and repeat a few times in one day. You will notice the difference right away! You MUST take it at the very first sign of the sniffles, even if it's a sneeze and tickle in your throat, don't wait. Take the tablets for one full day to allow them to really do the trick; pretty much you'll be guaranteed to rid yourself of the oncoming cold. The taste is great too -- just like orange TANG. The lemon/lime one doesn't appeal to me because it reminded me of Alka Seltzer, so I stick to the original flavor. The easy to carry cylinder makes it an easy item to carry with you during the day. A must have in your medicine chest!
- Librarian Approval!
     By A26TOUTPJKFB16 on 2005-10-27
I work at an elementary school with tons of little kids everyday, I haven't been sick yet this year since taking this stuff - it really works. It's good for you too.
- Take a multi-vitamin and wash your hands
     By A2230L8RNZ8CVU on 2005-12-21
Before I bought this stuff I compared the ingredients to my One A Day multi-vitamin. Other than the vitamin C my multi-vitamin contained every ingredient with at least the same dosage if not more than Airbourne. Save yourself some money, take a multi-vitamin and washer your hands. If you want the vitamin C buy a vitamin C supplement....it's cheaper.
- They ruined it
     By A3FKF9UFHA2DCC on 2006-06-28
Took a perfectly great product and then poison it with aspartame. YUK! The company was kind enough to refund me the full amount when I sent the unfinished package back to them.
Oh, I know they said they have researched it and have decided aspartame is a safe sweetener.
Lets not have the artificial sweetener debate here. Each family will have to decide for their own. If you have never researched artificial sweeteners, I would implore you to do so. Decide for yourself.
My desire in posting a review is to simply give a heads-up to others that prefer to avoid artificial sweeteners.
There are many natural products on the market that provide similar or better, results. To help fight the cold and flu season get away from or cut back on sugar consumption. Sugar weakens the immune system. Get lots of rest. Wash hands. A lot. Eat more raw fruits and veggies.
- Breakdown of ingredients: benefits/toxicities
     By AZE5A9CETXQ0N on 2007-01-18
Airborne.... Miracle worker???
Here's what I think...
I have listed the ingredients and explain each one with regards to benefits and drawbacks.
5 calories.... Save if for a piece of gum
100% vitamin A- deficiencies lead to night blindness due to the prescence of this in rhodopsin, a retinal pigment. This is very common in most vegetables and especially in beta carotene rich plants (carrots...). Beta carotene is the most common form in vitamins because it is a precursor and is harmless in excess amount. Airborne has it in the form of retinyl acetate, the active form of which being a fat soluble vitamin, can be toxic in excess. Symptoms of overdose include hair loss, headaches, and nausea. Regarding taking supplements for immediate usage, your liver stores about 2 years worth of vitamin A, rendering this dose moot.
1670% vitamin C- possibly shown to reduce the longevity of the common cold (questionable) , high levels of this are available in many fruits. In high amounts, this increases your risk of kidney stones. In oranges, there is enough citrate to counter this negative effect, but citrate is available in only small quantities in this "drug." At a dose every 3 hours, kidney stones can become more and more of a risk. Often used in oxidation/reduction reactions.
Vitamin E is also a fat soluble vitamin, with toxicity in high amounts. Acts as an antioxidant and is readily available in nuts, grains, and vegetable oils.
Magnesium(essential to nucleic acid structure), Zinc (often prosthetic group as in zinc fingers of DNA synth), Selenium (cofactor for reduction of antioxidant enzymes), and Manganese are all heavy metals and micronutrients. All heavy metals are highly toxic in high amounts and have detrimental effects on the central nervous system. Of considerable interest, there is 3 mg of manganese per tablet. As the recommended daily intake is around 2 mg, and the upper tolerable limit is about 9-11 mg, if taken as directed (take one and may repeat every 3 hours), one can easily get into dangerous levels of this metal with no benefit in the higher dose.
Potassium is an essential nutrient that Airborne contains a negligible amount of (2%) thus having no use.
"A medical study (Taylor et al. 2003[1].) demonstrated that when echinacea products made from the entire plant (not just the root) were taken after the second cold symptom appeared they provided no measurable beneficial effect for children in treating the severity or duration of symptoms caused by the common cold virus. Studies by the University of Virginia School of Medicine (Turner, 2005 [2]) confirmed these results, and added that Echinacea had no clinically significant effects on the common cold even if taken immediately upon infection, or as a prophylaxis starting a week prior to symptoms of infection."
Lonicera is the genus of the honeysuckle, a shrub or vine that some species produce poisonous berries. No beneficial effects have been noted.
Forsythia- "In the absence of serious clinical trials, efficacy should be regarded at best debatable"
Schizonepeta, Ginger, Chinese Vitex, Isatis Root are under the same heat as ineffective plants with no evidence of beneficence.
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is present which is common in green leafy vegetables.
The amino acids contained are glutamine and lysine. I find it hilarious that glutamine is included as this is an unessential amino acid that is readily made by the body. Furthermore, it is an amino acid with an extra amine group making it doubly costly in ridding of nitrogenous wastes and stressing the kidneys when in excess. Lysine is an essential amino acid with is commonly found in legumes, green leafy vegetables, and meat product (especially fish).
So... think what you want, and take what you want, but in terms of "boosting" your immune system, this product will not do any of the sort; if anything, a deficiency in any of these vitamins or micronutrients will reduce the effectiveness of your immune system. So whether you would consider not lowering immune effectiveness as "boosting" is your choice, but I think otherwise. The mind is a powerful thing, and the placebo effect has been shown time and again to be a powerful "drug." If swallowing something you think will help helps, go for it. On a purely chemical standpoint, you might as well save money and stick to your flintstone chewables or good ole centrum.
- Airborne wha?
     By A3CUKYNXZ3KUAT on 2007-05-13
This is for everyone saying that the naysayers can't be credible because they haven't tried it. I took it as prescribed, and it didn't work. I do know a few things that do work:
1. Do not rub your eyes
2. Do not pick your nose
3. Wash your hands
For the record, I rub my eyes.
Most cold viruses enter the body through the eyes or nose. The nasal mucosa has up to 100 times more viruses than the throat. The saliva has very few viruses if any at all. If 100 people have a cold, 40 will have the virus on their hands compared to 8 who will expell it in coughs of sneezes. So you will most likely not get a cold from someone who is coughing or sneezing. However, they will pick their nose then touch a doorknob or a pen. The dried virus will survive there for over three hours. So then you'll touch it then pick your nose (people are so disgusting). Then 2-4 days later you'll get symptoms. You are more likely to catch a cold by holding your sweetheart's hand than by kissing her.
As for acheck, kcrandall and tsanders; these people sound arrogant so I understand those who write to defy them. In fact, I know acheck personally, and honestly, he's a real jerk. But on 18 January 2007 he made a convincing argument.
Lastly, someone said Airborne is cheaper than paying a physician or buying cold medicine. Medical education and training is expensive, and sound research is really expensive. If you want people who know what they're doing and products that work you have to pay for it. This stuff doesn't fall from the sky (or fizz from the bottom of a glass of water).
- HEY!!! IT WORKS!!!
     By A2ELU1FU1BWSDA on 2004-11-25
Started using this product many, many months ago. While not a health food fanatic, I do watch what I eat and do take vitamins daily. However whenever I felt a slight tickle in nose or throat and felt a cold coming on, which usually happens around November thru March, I take an Airborne as directed and BINGO!! The cold or flu disappears more often than not!
My mother-in-law was headed to China but she had the sniffles, definitely coming down with a cold, and she was worried...my wife Donna suggested Airborne Supplements and guess what. It worked!!
She never came down with the "expected cold" even though she was in the airplane for over 10 hours! And going to China to boot, a very unhealthy enviornment!
Now paw paw (grandma in Chinese) wants her own bottle of tablets!
Keep in mind that she's close to 80 or so.
As many tubes as I've bought I should own shares in this company.
In fact if any one from that company is reading this, feel free to contact me and use me as a testimonial. Your product works!! Just let me have a years supply of the stuff or let me in on the IPO.
Other friends of mind also commented on the efficacy of this product and would purchase it! It's worked well for them too! Trader Joe's was a lot less expensive than any of the local and chain drug stores so I would suggest purchasing it there. I live in SF Bay Area----Vic
- Airborne Works
     By A39BC4DXS7ZH3V on 2004-11-25
I have been using Airborne now for 2 years and it really works, I usually take it when someone at work has a cold, or when I am feeling like if a cold is coming... Best way to use it is the day you feel you have a cold, take 1 every 3 hours that day and I guarantee, GUARANTEE that you will NOT have a cold the next day. I take it with hot water, i just think it absorbs it better that way.
- Too many unanswered questions

It seems to work pretty well. And it's not true, as some reviewers have claimed, that it just contains vitamins and echinacea; Amazon lists 7 herbs in the ingredients.
But there are no details regarding why these 7 herbs were chosen over all the other available ones. There's no explanation for why the product contains mineral oil, what kind of mineral oil it is, and what the effects of the mineral oil are. And the maker's own website gives fewer details than Amazon, even failing to list the 7 herbs. A "Next" button, which I expected to give further details, took me straight to a shopping cart.
Finally, why is the fact that the formula was created by a second grade teacher considered an advertisement? I can understand that she may prefer not to catch colds, but where did she get her knowledge of healthcare and herbs, etc.?

Pfft. These things do NOTHING to stave off a cold/flu. I used about three tubes of these as soon as I noticed I was getting a cold and the cold lasted for three weeks. What a waste of money. Worthless.
