Cheap Imitation By A3N424DMIJVYAK on 2005-01-03
Short version: This wheel is a cheap plastic imitation of its higher quality forbears. It works, but it doesn't give anywhere near the realistic driving experience the previous models gave.
Long version:
My friend bought the original, red Logitech Wingman Formula Force (...) a couple years back. I borrowed it recently to play with NASCAR Racing 2003 and loved it. The experience was quite realistic. So I thought to get my own.
First I bought the standard Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP (...), because it didn't seem the MOMO version was much different (...), and I didn't want to bother with the rebate. I thought the cheaper price reflected savings in production efficiencies. The GP wheel was shockingly different, in a bad way. The original red Wingman Formula Force has some kind of ball bearing, spring and damper system that lets the wheel turn freely, but give varying amounts of force feedback depending on the game. The original red wheel lets you feel when the wheel gets "loose", and you're about to lose traction. The new, cheaper GP version has a horrible plastic, notchy feeling, as one other review commented - as you turn the wheel it grinds. Turning seems to be a matter of grinding each gear tooth which corresponds to a bit in the control axis. The GP is not at all like a real steering wheel, when the original red wheel was a passable facsimile. The force feedback on the GP is a joke. It's like seeing a downsampled, low resolution, 8-bit version of what used to be a high resolution, 24-bit image.
So I returned the standard, cheaper (...) GP wheel to Amazon and bought this MOMO wheel hoping that the extra dough gets you that special "real" feeling. Unfortunately, the MOMO still fails. This (...) MOMO version is better than the standard GP version, but there's still a plastic notchy gear feeling to the wheel. The notches are finer, and the force feedback effects have a higher sample rate, but it's still the same fundamental cheap plastic gear feeling.
It seems that the wheel I actually wanted was the ORIGINAL, now discontinued, Logitech MOMO Force wheel with the authentic leather, steel pedals and whatnot. It probably wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. About.com reviewed the original MOMO wheel and commented: "One of the best features of this force feedback wheel is that there is no "notchy-ness" in the steering wheel. In other force feedback wheels you could feel the gears in the wheel which would prevent you from making smooth adjustments. This wheel solves that problem, it's very smooth."
(...)
I wish I had read that review before I bought this new, plastic version. It's surprising though that nobody had commented in a comparative review about how the steering feel has been compromised. About.com wrote: "The Logitech Momo Racing (black) wheel is a revamped version their legendary Momo Force (red) wheel. They replaced some of the expensive metal parts with plastic and even made some improvements along the way such as increasing the pedal throw and adding a manual stick shifter. The result is a wheel that is even better than the original." (...)
I beg to differ. Maybe the About.com reviewer got a different version of the MOMO wheel, because I'm surprised he didn't comment on the lack of ball-bearing feel to the new wheel. This plastic, notchy feeling to the steering in both the current GP and MOMO versions destroys the suspension of disbelief. The few reviews that said anything about the plasticky-ness, expressing disappointment, were given poor feedback. Why? Do people only want to read glowing reviews of products, regardless of the accuracy of the review?
The only thing positive to say about the newer wheels versus the original red wheel is that the pedals are bottom hinged, and easier to modulate. The new wheels are also cheaper in price. But as I've explained, the new plastic wheels are also cheaper in the quality of experience they provide. You get what you pay for.
Another Great Logitech Product By A1GGATN5TGXQ5 on 2002-11-13
One of the most impressive things about this wheel is that within 10 minutes of removing it from the box, I had it installed on my computer and was using it in a game. Logitech scores again with rock solid software that is easy to install and use.Once I started to use it, the other good parts about the wheel became apparent within a very brief amount of time. FORM FACTOR: Compared to other force feedback wheels, this takes up a surprisingly small abount of desk real estate. Once clamped onto a desk, the unit only takes up a 7 inch by 14 inch area of space. The clamping mechanism is notable for not extending very far below the desk. This means there is less for you to bump your legs on and it makes it possible to clamp it in a wider variety of locations. PEDALS: In my previous wheels, the pedal unit would slide all over the place on my wood floors. This unit, though has a big enough base that there is absolutely no sliding whatsover. In addition, there is a little traction device you can turn on, so that on carpet, the base will stick even more. FORCE FEEDBACK: To set up the wheel, you can use the default Windows Game Controller set up. Force feedback can be set from 0-150% strength. For my game, Rally Trophy, I found that anything greater than 20% was too strong and I ended up using 14%. This is a sign of quality, because it indicates that the wheel has a full range of power available. The fact that at 14% power, the wheel delivered a nice range of subtle in-game effects proves to me that this wheel has been put together solidly. This wheel met all my expectations and for me was a MAJOR step up from the little game pad I was using. It has taken me about 2 days to really get the hang of driving with it, but now that I have figured out the right settings, there is really no comparison. Before I was just goofing around with a video game. Now it feels like I am actually using an advanced driving simulator. Very cool!
Tremendous wheel By A390OJBQEH3QMQ on 2002-11-25
I am a hardcore online racing addict spending several hours online racing each night. I have had 3 Logitech Wheels in my time. Logitech Wingman FF, Logitech MOMO Force and Logitech MOMO Driver.Logitech Momo Racing (my thoughts) The Good - Full rubber grip. Extended turning range. Very accurate & precise. Strong Force Feedback which can be adjusted. Good pedals. Nice pressure on brake pedal. Fairly long throw on pedals. Stick shift option. 6 buttons on wheel. Easy to instal. Solid construction. Good web site support. Wingman profiler good program to help fine tune setup. Fairly easy to get used to the wheel. Nice times achieved after little practice. 3 clamping system very solid. Wheel looks good. Quality control better than on Logitech Momo Force. Pedals superior the the force model as far as getting better race times. The Not So Good - have to extend fingers too much to reach gear paddles. Paddles not a solid feel to them. Problem with right gear paddle, double shifts at times. No need for stick shifter. Pedal base too light, slips around unless u put something solid behind it. Plastic pedals instead of metal as on the FORCE model. Overall - MOMO Racing is a class above Wingman FF as far as getting better race times once u get used to it. I had 2 MOMO Force wheels and had to take them back as various things were faulty. MOMO Racing i feel also has questionable quality control on the Paddle Shifters. Apart from this it is a top product and thorougly recommend it. Have fun and get a beer into you Talisman
Additional Feedback By A390OJBQEH3QMQ on 2002-12-05
I have now taken back 2 Logitech MOMO Driver steering wheels. Had to take the current one back this week as the left gear paddle ceased working. There is a major design flaw with the gear paddles and for this reason i believe Logitech should recall this product and fix this problem. An online team member also had the same problem with this wheel. One of his paddles stopped working after one week of use. Everything else about this wheel is excellent and perhaps you will be fortunate and not have the problem i have had. Also if you drive Auto or are comfortable using the stick shifter this also negates the paddle vulnerability being an issue.
Just OK By A3PWPF7G4LAQ0Z on 2004-07-16
I bought the wheel back in March of this year and for the first 3 months it had worked perfectly. Then a few weeks ago I started to get that wonderful MOMO pedal bug. The pedals are made where they check the calibration every time you push them down. However if you wiggle the pedal while its down the potentiometer reads it as being pushed down further and sets that new rate as what you have to reach in order to get full percentage use out of the pedal. I took the base apart and put the pedals back on tighter, but it still wiggles a bit, and still loses calibration. I will be returning my MOMO.
- Momo is the bomb!
     By A22PEJBTZLJ1OT on 2004-03-08
UPDATE (25 Oct 05): I've got 2 of these now (one for each computer on the LAN) and they both still work great!
Original Post (March 8, 2004)
Not sure what some of these people are talking about. I've had my Momo and pedals for about 3-4 months now. Need for Speed: Underground is incredible with it. Also, it is durable. I can tend to get a little (ahem!) upset when racing, and the Momo has taken all the punishment and stills plays like it's right out of the box.
Don't let the naysayers dissuade you...buy this wheel!
- Seems to be working for me.
     By A1HOKNYWEK8XCD on 2004-05-10
I've ready multiple reviews of the paddle shifters breaking on this wheel, but being I use the stick shift, that hasn't happened to me yet :-D I've had the wheel for about 5 months or so now. It hasn't been flawless, unfortunately. I've noticed that the deadzone, when in the calibration window used to be none-existant; it picked up EVERY little change in movement of the wheel... now there is a slight dead zone on it. Hasn't affected my racing, though so that is good. Also, the stick shift knob makes a popping sound every now and then when I shift up... or actually down, because I reverse the default settings.I actually bought this wheel through Best Buy and I intended to buy their extended warranty thing for it, but I never got around to it. I kind of regret that, because I'd hate to see my $100 wheel stop working on me.
- Great Wheel! Terrible life span!!
     By A1QED2TISBXHQN on 2004-01-17
I purchased this wheel after vast researching and I must say I love the way it feels. The wheel assembly iteslf is outstanding!! The one shortfall was the paddle shifters as they do break. The pedal assembly is a completely different story. Throttle control is essential in today's games and these pedals are junk! When they work, they are adequate, but they WILL break. I can comfortably say this as I have returned 3 wheels so far to be replaced due to pedal problems. The culprit with the pedals are the pots (potentionometers) that are the electronics in the pedal assembly. They are cheap at best. The mounting assembly is insufficent and the pots themselves are ridiculously sub-par. Plus, Logitech does not sell replacements. I did find them via a 3rd party company finally. But, I find it hard to digest that Logitech risks so much potential on a product with $0.30 parts (which cost $7 ea to replace via 3rd party). Ultimately I would have to say stay away from this wheel. But, if they fix the design deficiancies..buy no other!!!!
- 1 clamp in center system doesnt hold-plastic screw breaks
     By A3HNV0U6V1HAYY on 2006-02-02
I had the old red wingman formula force for 5+ years and it was great. never a lick of a problem in any way.
Ive looked at this momo for a long time thought it looked cool, was logitech and got one.
a disaster from the start. this thing is a testament to
" how cheap can we make this and get away with it" mentality.
first you MUST remove your keyboard tray. noway around that.
it has a single cheap plastic screw clamp in the center with no handle on it like the dual clamps with knobs of the formula force.
so after removing your keyboard tray and all that, go get a wrech to tighten this thing. you can never get it tight enough for it to not slip around on the desk, thats what happens because a single weak cheap center clamp creates a pivot point for the wheel unit.
it sits too high on the desk. the top of the wheel was just under my chin. I had to raise my monitor up almost 6 inches then the whole setup is weird, not a natural driving position.
the pedal base is cheap and lightweight, and pedals stiff.
it raises up under your heel when using the pedals, if you brake hard, the whole base picks up in the back and spins to the left because the pedal is on the left side of it.
it slides away from you even on good carpet if you even bump it with your foot. its terrible. I had to double-sided sticky tape it to my carperting and now cant move it. those little spikes on the front do nothing and pick up if you step on the front of the base and it slides away.
The wheels grinds and is stiff. if you turn left/right fast it resists and makes a 'whirring' bearing sound.
the plugs are both on the front and hit your monitor stand. you cannot disconnect one plug like the old red wheel and put it away, it always has that cord pernmanantly attached and makes it a hassle.
I broke the cheapo plastic screw clamp tightening it after only 3-4 remove/installs to the desk. less than two weeks.
its a pointed plastic screw with no knob for tightening. you cant get it tight by hand and i figured since they put a wrench hexagon shape to it, you are supposed to use a wrench so i did,
well its such cheap plastic and you have to get it so tight to prevent movement the wrench end broke off. now its stuck on my desk and im wondering if amazon will give me a refund broke.
Logitech tells me to order/buy another plastic screw.
and they admit the design is flawed. got to Logitech and read some of the many many horrid letters I and others have written concerning this wheel. I should have. Thats why the price has dropped so much here, but theyre still 100+ in stores.
My highest recommendation to NOT BUY this product. I was their biggest fan believe me with my old red formula force, but this thing is junk. total junk not worth 5 bucks. youll be replacing clamp screws bi-weekly or more. Logitech admits its a bad design but does nothing except sell you more plastic clamp screws! lol.
and it grinds , its stiff, the base slips, you have to remove keyboard tray....just take a pass on this one, Im sending it back and buying a microsoft wheel locally.
I saw the old red formula forces for sale here- well worth the price those things are the best, this momo thing is the worst.
- Pretty Darn Good Wheel for the Price
     By A3SDTOIOFZ3XII on 2005-03-13
Unless you're a professional racecar driver looking to recreate your real world experience this wheel should satisfy you. Yes it would be nice if it were made of leather and steel, but if that's the level of realism you want I don't see how you'll ever be satisfied unless you complete the effect with a steel chassis around your computer and an open can of gas nearby for the authentic road smell. Seriously, it's nice and solid, with the nice tacky feel of good quality rubber. The wheel does produce a light grinding sound from the gears, but unless you're extremely neurotic you won't notice it above the roar of the engines. I've only had mine for a few days so I'll report back on the long-term quality in a few months, though it seems right solid, I suppose it's possible that a hyperactive kid who didn't pay for it himself could abuse it to the point of failure in a few months. My biggest disappointment so far has been that the force feedback doesn't rattle and shake as much as I thought it would, then again this could be due to the game I'm using it with, Toca Race Driver 2. If you're serious about your driving games you need a wheel and pedals, absolutely, and this is a solid choice! If, on the other hand, you're serious about driving itself, just stick to the gas guzzler in the garage. Given the problem of global warming and pollution though, I say pass the sunblock and make mine digital!
- Don't buy !!!!!
     By A3G6KMQQZBCV02 on 2004-01-30
I bought this hoping for some real racing fun. What I got was dissapointment however. Steering wheel never centered correctly. Downloaded multiple tweak files from various websites that said it would correct problem but didn't. Steering sensativity was never the same on different games even though settings were the same. Example: say your racing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and you win your race and move on to another race in a championship series. The resistence on the race you just won is set to "0" and it's real easy to turn on that race. The next race is totally different though. Even though settings are the same the resistence is like going from power steering to manual steering on an old truck. Then came the real bad problem. Throttle kept messing up and then it would only go 1/2 throttle no matter what game I played or what the setting's were. On top of that Amazon only gave me partial credit when I returned in "as recieved" condition.
- Great wheel, minor issues
     By A2K7LR7SMBX56S on 2004-11-28
The wheel's FF and feel and overall quality are very good. It is extremely useful to have the option of paddle or stick shifter. I use my paddles to shift and the pull back on the shifter as the handbrake and push forward is clutch. I have also had the stick as shift and paddles as clutch and ebrake. Pedals and wheel are both very precise.
Of course, as with most people, I am having occasional trouble with the pedals. Mainly the brake 'sticking' on. This started after about 6months of heavy use and now at a year hasn't gotten much worse. Usually unplugging the pedals from the wheel and plugging it back in will fix the problem. We'll see if that will keep working.
- Great build quality, very satisfied.
     By A1K9FG9WEOMLFU on 2005-09-24
I found the Logitech MOMO Racing Force Feedback Racing Wheel to be very easy to connect, taking very little time to setup. Just install the software, connect it to your USB, connect the power connector to the back of the unit and finally connect the pedals to the wheel using another connector and your ready to go.
To secure the unit to your desk use the 2 clamps on top of the unit (accessed by opening a removable cover) and the bottom clamp. After using all 3 clamps to secure the unit to my desk I found it to be very sturdy.
If you are more used to having the gear shift knob on your left hand side rather than the default right hand side the unit ships with, simply remove the plastic cap on the left side and move the gear shift by unscrewing a nut holding it in place. It would have been really great if Logitech included a clutch and a 5-6 speed gear shifter beside your leg like in a real car. But you can also use the butterfly shifters placed behind the steering to shift gears like in Formula 1 race cars if your not too pleased with the normal gear shift knob.
The general build quality of the unit is very high with a rubber grip on the steering as well. I have read about another version called `Logitech MOMO Force' which is red in colour that has a leather grip and metal pedals, but the rubber grip and the high quality plastic pedals on this version seem fine. Also there are a total of 6 configurable buttons on the steering designed by the racing professionals at MOMO, with even some plastic screw impressions to add to the realistic looks.
I have been using the Logitech MOMO Racing Force Feedback Racing Wheel for over a week on NFS underground 2. The force feedback effects are really great and they can all be adjusted to anywhere between 0 - 150%. Play around with the settings until you get a setting your comfortable with. I used a setting of around 50% on all (there are 3 sliders) and it was ok. There is also a center spring setting that centers your steering automatically and when used at a high setting does tend make it a little hard to turn, requiring more effort. The force feedback effects when going over the curbs or over unpaved parts of the road are great and add to the realism.
The pedals have an anti slip row of spikes on the underside which can released by the press of a button. This is useful to prevent the unit slipping when used on a carpet. I have not tried using it on a wooden or other type of surface to see if it is held in place as securely as it is on a carpeted surface.
- Great Wheel when it was working
     By on 2003-01-06
As one of the review noted, there seems to be a problem with the paddles. I had my wheel for 3 weeks and one of the paddle switches is starting to stick. When I use it to shift, it shifts multiple times now. The other paddle still seems to be working fine. The wheel itself, when working, was great. The 3 point mount system seems to work better than the WingMan and the wheel and base feels a lot better than the WingMan as well. If it was not for the paddle switch problem, I would have given this wheel a much higher rating, but anything that goes defective in 3 weeks deserves a 1 star.
- AGAIN its BROKEN
     By on 2004-10-19
this is the second time i will have had to have my wheel replaced in 6 months
first it was the left paddle shift & now it will not center correctly......
the build of this wheel is SHOCKING
Logitech do you build anything with quality anymore...
+ it took me 6 weeks to get a replacement last time
by the time you replace this one my warranty will almost be up & i will be asking for a fresh warranty to cover my wheel.
i just do not trust it will last out a year....
- Problems with the power adapter plug
     By A1VGXHHR08G044 on 2006-04-22
Mine will not work. Apparently there is a problem with the power adapter or the plug. Many others complain about this same problem. It seems that Logitech has quality issues at their manufacturing plant. I hope they get it sorted out, because there are not many other force-feedback wheels on the market.
- Flexible, functional, FUN peripheral that's the best in its class
     By A2AAJA3RXDOZV4 on 2006-08-27
Any true race driving afficionado will tell you that it's all about feel. Driving, RACING, is all about feel. In the realm of racing cars on a computer, the more realistic the tactile aspect of the experience is, the more you enjoy the simulation.
Logitech's MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel and Pedal set is, by far, the best user interface peripheral I've ever used. I've owned older examples of Thrustmasters; I've sampled several of Microsoft's and Saitek's wheel and pedal sets; I even have a Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP wheel and pedal set that I'm giving away to a good friend. None of the other devices have made racing on my computer as enjoyable as Logitech's top-of-the-line MOMO set.
The wheel's rim is thick and grippy, just like a real-world racing steering wheel should be. The rubber rim enables the driver to maintain his grip as he sweats through dozens of laps around a typical Formula 1 race course. Moreover, the wheel is home to six fully-programmable buttons, as well as two paddle shifters.
If you prefer your gearchanges to be done via a more conventional gear stick, you can configure your wheel and pedal set accordingly. The shifter goes forwards and backwards; you can select up or down shifts according your preference. And, if you want to simulate right-hand steering cars (as in Japan and the UK), you can even switch the location of the gear stick to the left! I can't think of another wheel and pedal set that has that particular feature.
The wheel's force feedback function is quite fun. A driver must feel how his car is going through corners, and frequently this information comes from a combination of gravity's effects and his car's feedback. In computer sims, though, you cannot simulate gravity, so the car must somehow talk to you. The MOMO wheel communicates whether or not the car is understeering or oversteering around the corners through the strength of the force feeding back through to your hands. You can also feel bumps on the surface, as well as slippery patches on the track. Pretty impressive, really, for a peripheral.
The brake and throttle pedals are a good size. There is no clutch, unfortunately. The pedals pivot on the bottom, but you never really notice the difference compared to a top-pivoting pedal configuration (like most cars I know of have). The pedals' sensitivity range seems predictable, meaning, you can instinctively feel the correct amounts of throttle and brake when you apply them. The pedal base is also a good size and is at a good angle, meaning you won't have numb feet/legs after a two-hour race.
The only significant cons I can think of include the pedal placement being awkward for heel-and-toe gear changes and a slightly cheap feel to the paddle shifters. Heel-and-toe downshifts are a moot point anyway, given that there's no clutch pedal, but I suppose this pedal set is perfectly spaced for karting-style two-pedal racing. If you're practiced in left-foot braking (and if your game supports simultaneous pedal function), then this is no problem. As far as the paddle shifters are concerned, though, more brutal users might break the lightweight plastic paddles with super-aggressive gear changes. A light touch, though, is all you need (aside from good timing) for optimum performance.
If you want the best racing sim peripheral out there, this is definitely the one to get.
- what you need
     By A1583AXQUVD9Q on 2007-01-16
So far, the wheel has been exactly what I wanted.
The clamping mechanism is a little overly complex, but
it works well. Too bad it's just not a quick-release set up.
Compatibility, feel, features...all good.
I like the option of paddle or stick shift. (mmm...paddle)
Overall, a nice yet affordable choice for semi-serious race fans.
- The Momo Racing Wheel is a MUST HAVE for racing sim fans
     By A3JH9I2H3EYQEE on 2004-03-05
The Logitech Momo Racing Wheel (USB) by Logitech is a MUST HAVE for anyone that likes to work the racing sims. I found the MOMO setup to be an excellent addition to compliment Nascar 2003 Racing season. The MOMO Racing Wheel works great on my Microsoft Windows XP Professional installation
- Great Wheel!!!
     By on 2004-03-24
Let me start off by saying I have only had this wheel for two days. So as far as durability goes I'm not qualified to judge. However in the past two days I have had a hard time letting go of the thing. I play Formula One Sims, (i.e. EA's F1 2002). I had a wingman gp non force feedback. That was not an impressive wheel, esspecially for formula one games it was to light and twitcy, and if you know formula one, the car is already light a twitcy. This wheel rounded the whole package, has a great feel and impresive feedback. Amazing, praying I dont have issues with it like some on here have stated.
- More than I expected
     By A2W9HXQHH3EDSP on 2006-02-19
I researched this item and even bought a cheaper one. I stress CHEAPER. I returned it and bought this from Amazon. I got a great deal and free shipping (which makes up for the fact that they are 10 to 15 bucks more than other suppliers).
I use the wheel with NASCAR Total Control that I bought for $9.95 at a local retailer and this thing is very good. I really like the feel of the wheel.
I use it with Need For Speed Underground (yes the first one which I bounght and used with a joystick) with Vibration on....OH MY GOD!!! I thought I was racing throught the street. My heart was pounding and my hands sweating.
The Wheel is a great feel and is a rubber that feels like a real steering wheel. Not a kids toy feel. The paddle shifters are great and it attaches to my table well. You will want to use the foot pedals on a rug since they are moulded to grip a rug. THe wires are all long enough too.
I would buy this again or even give it as a gift. I highly recommend.
- Works great.
     By AUDK722PXIKW6 on 2006-02-25
When I first purchased the MOMO wheel from Amazon.com, the AC adapter was defective; screeching noise and caused problems using force feedback. However, I was able to use the wheel w/out the adapter. Don't even try to get help from Logitech for replacing the AC adapter (or any other component) without replacing everything. Logitech's customer support was poor.
However, Amazon.com gave outstanding support by sending me an entire new wheel w/ all accessories for no charge, then after receiving the new wheel, I returned the original one with the defective adapter. I didn't have to spend any time w/out a wheel. The new wheel (and adapter) works great!
- I LOVE MOMO
     By A36TVRFBEZBN2K on 2006-03-20
I'm not much for writing reviews. All I know is that this thing rocks. The construction is surprisingly solid for all the plastic. With the force feedback you really have to fight to get your car to do what you want... pretty realistic. I thought I would've broken it trying to steer against a skid. If you're a fan of racing games or just have a real passion for driving, get this now. It's the closest I can get to driving any of those fancy cars in the games.
- Great wheel for the price
     By AS59NDIDLKBR2 on 2006-03-24
The MOMO Racing wheel has good force feedback effects, much better than previous wheels i've used. It uses gears to create the effects so some rattling is experienced, but not enough to discourage playing. Software is great in assisting with customizing buttons for all types of racing games. Rubber wheel makes it very easy to hold on during intense steering with stick shifter and paddles being great additions. Recommended buy.
- Good solid racing wheel
     By A3BEE99MYS0GE4 on 2007-01-12
This MOMO racing wheel is a significant upgrade over the basic $40 Logitech racing wheel which I enjoyed using for two or three years. The basic model has a very light feel with no resistance whatever and no ForceFeedback option. The MOMO wheel has stiffer resistance plus more precision, and you can turn on ForceFeedback to give an even better feel of the road.
The MOMO wheel offers "paddle" shifters behind the wheel right at your fingertips. It also features a stick shift beside the wheel if you prefer that.
The Pedal assembly is sturdier and has better feel and action than the pedals that come with the basic wheel.
Control of all the buttons, paddles, etc. can be programmed for different games if you install and use the software provided by Logitech. I have not tried this feature, using instead the control settings available in each game.
Minor drawbacks:
I had to place a brick behind the Pedal assembly to keep it from moving when I hit the pedals hard during a race.
The wheel is rather noisy when you turn it.
The wheel drops tiny shreds of plastic or some sort of debris when in use. Have to brush off my keyboard tray below the wheel after use.
Overall, the quality of the MOMO model is very good indeed and strongly recommended. It certainly feels as though it is built to last! The minor drawbacks just barely rule out a 5-star rating.
- Logitech MOMO FFB Racing Wheel is Outstanding

Got this wheel for Christmas after doing quite a bit of research. Previously had a Thrustmaster wheel which worked great and lasted forever but was for Windows 95 and was not FFB so I needed to upgrade. The Logitech MOMO FFB Wheel is terrific - great value for the price. It shipped immediately and I had it within a couple of days right before Christmas. The wheel installed without a hitch and has worked perfectly ever since. I am using it with GT Legends and GTR2 as well as NASCAR SimRacing. Works fine in all three games. I think the wheel is a great value.

The wheel does not center properly. It is about 5 to 10 degrees off center.
There is a very pronounced thump in the wheel when turning quickly as if something is loose inside.
If you push the accelerator pedal to the side, at all, then the potentiometer for the accelerator will not go fully to 0. Logitech's pedalfix does not fix it.
For a wheel that they have made this long, this is pretty shoddy, imo.
Apparantely, Logitech doesn't care.

I got my MOMO around a month ago, needing one to replace my aged and damaged other wheel. It arrived and I unboxed it, and then spent less than 5 minutes getting it working to my system. In comparison to my other wheel that took nearly 4 hours to get worked out. I was racing within fifteen minutes of hooking it up. There is a CD included, but truly my system worked ok in Plug and Play mode. I installed the CD program to make sure everything was sorted.
At first, I confess that I hated every feature on it but one; the brake pedal. It felt quite realistic as it was a tad harder to push down the further you pushed it. The rest was driving me bonkers. The steering felt grainy under force feedback, the wheel felt about three sizes too small in diameter and two sizes too large in grip diameter, and the pedal station slid quite interestingly. I was admittedly on the verge of putting it back in the box and selling it locally even if I took a hit. But, fate played a hand and I had to wait over the weekend for a local software store to open up so I could unload it.
Over the two days I was 'stuck' with the wheel, I really had no option but to use it. It had been quite a while since I had been able to race again and I was impatient, so I used the MOMO. After a few races I got more and more used to the wheel and also managed to get the force feedback put down to a level just a little less abrupt. I like my wheel to feedback to me and let me know how the car is doing, not jerk out of my hands hard enough to sprain my wrists! Using the convenient and ingenious carpet gripper feature got the pedal station to stay put, and my times on the tracks began to drastically improve.
Monday came and I had actually began to tolerate, not love, but tolerate the thing. It had a warranty, so if it broke before I made up my mind whether it would be staying or going, I'd be covered. I cannot say when my mindset changed about the wheel, but sometime within that first week of use, it certainly did!
Now let's get down the things that racers care about.
For starters, the wheel is covered in a substance that allows good grip, most racers don't drive with wet hands, and that is the only circumstance I see this wheel slipping out of your hand. If the force feedback is set too high it can be quite agressive with you, but that is a game tuning issue. If you find it fighting you, just work on it in the settings because the wheel is actually quite good on Force once you get it set right. Also, after a long "enduro" race, I found that my left hand (dominant steering hand) was a little sore in the palm and finger area. I tried to figure it out and discovered that during rally races I really put a squeeze on the wheel, so should you find this problem it is just too much grip being applied to the wheel.
The pedals could have a slightly better coating on them, as the plastic had my feet sliding around a little bit if I had to agressive and tedious throttle and braking until I got used to them. All in all, they work well and are well fitting to the rest of the ensemble. Just remember to put the carpet gripper down, or you'll spend half your time trying to grab the base with your feet while driving to slide it back to you.
The tabletop grip system is basically bulletproof. It holds the table well, and can be adjusted to fit virtually any table you could wish to use it with. You are really going to have to get excessively rough with turning the wheel to make the base even squeak. Nothing is more distracting than a racing wheel making goofy noises, and this one is virtually devoid of them.
The buttons on the wheel are well positioned and are handy as the pocket on a shirt for mapping to any radio comms. you might have for online racing as well as other things that each game may need you to keep track of. having both the paddle shifters and the stick are a bit over the top, but the paddles can be mapped to operate other key things like the clutch, so all is good there too.
The one thing I hate about it is that if you are making a long sweeping turn holding the wheel steady at times it can make a very light 'whimper' sound from the wheel. It is very quiet and I suspect it is just something within the force feedback that is sounding off since you're not working the wheel side to side but holding it off center and still. Most people race with headphones on, so there really isn't an issue here.
About the wheel feeling grainy, it still does, but it is so easy to get used to. the only thing I have a problem with on that is that it feels like the wheel has very fine notches that the wheel settles into when you turn, and on long sweeping turns where you want steering precision one notch is too much input and the other isn't enough input.
All in all I'm going to say that for a good controller for racing of various types from the superspeedways of NASCAR games to wooden bridges in Rally titles, this wheel should suit your needs quite admirably. It does take a little getting used to, but there is nothing that would keep me from buying another one in a heartbeat.
When you first get it, you may hate it, but trust me on this; stick with it and give it a fair chance. The settings for each game seem to be giving the wheel way too much Feedback for me, but after tuning them, the wheel started working like a real link between myself and the car in my game and I think that is what the MOMO was designed to do.
