• Great Protection for Your Shredder Investment

  We only buy Fellowes shredders and have found them very reliable. I originally purchased the oil for the cutters directly from Fellowes a couple of years ago; the bottle was smaller and more expensive at the time. I was quite pleased to find this product available from Amazon at a good price and larger bottle.
  
  I think a lot of people buy a shredder, not knowing that it does need some maintenance to keep it in top shape. Besides not overloading your shredder's capabilities or shredding material that you shouldn't, the next best thing you can do to protect your investment is to regularly lubricate the cutters. This reduces wear, noise, and can prevent the teeth from breaking.
  
  Be sure to read the instructions for your particular shredder, however, about the type of oil to use and the frequency. You may be tempted to use other types of oil you already have around your house or WD-40 or something, but many of those things are flammable and will only serve to damage your shredder or worse.
  
  As another reviewer said, be careful when cutting the tip on the bottle because if you make it too big, the oil will be harder to control.

  My fellowes powershredder says clearly in the instructions that you can use vegetable oil, a much cheaper alternative, to oil the shredder. Save your money!

  ...that means it will keep your shredder running smoothly if you use it a ton and apply the oil occasionally. However I doubt you will use the whole bottle or even half the bottle during the lifetime of your shredder. Just another way for Fellows to make some money. Would prefer two or three different sized bottles, depending on the usage levels of the shredder (not everyone shreds 100 documents a day).

  My wife and I shred just about everything, but you only need a few drops each time you change the bag. If I am still alive when this bottle is empty, then I will consider myself lucky. Maybe we can put it in the will for our grandchildren someday.

  I have a Staples 15-sheet shredder for which I purchased the Fellowes lubricant oil. After a single thorough application, the shredder gradually returned to its optimum performance. I used the generic office store brand oil before, and it seems that Fellowes lubricant delivers a difference you can hear.

  It's difficult to rate a product if you have had no comparisons.So, with this in mind,Ihave used this lubricant on the cutters of my shredder since it's first use,and I have had no problems with the operations of the shredder,which seems to run smoothly and quietly.Needless to say,I am not going to sop using the oil just for comparison purposes.

  Well, I have to rate this five stars because it is oil, and that is what I ordered. Does it help? Who knows? It cant hurt though and the tip at the end makes it easy to apply. This bottle is large enough that you will probably never need any more of this.

  I purchased this oil with the Fellowes Powershred PS-77Cs 12 sheet Confetti Cut Shredder, and throw some in every other week or so ... it really works! Assuming it extends the shredder life (as is claimed), it's well worth the extra $6.

  This is the best priced shredder lubricant out there and it's from a shredder manufacturing company. Though there are other options to lubricate your shredder (such as lubricated paper), there is no substitute for the real thing. All you do is pour this directly onto your shredder and it will keep the blades from rusting and losing it's edge. Recommended for any shredder (not just confetti-cut as it is being advertised as)

  I purchased this with my shredder, a Fellowes 32177 Powershred PS-77Cs. The bottle is kind of unwieldy, as the nozzle hole is quite big for oil (and it will just spill out). The bottle is pretty big, about 8-10 inches tall so I will have this for a long time, even after using this every time the bag has been changed (recommended by Fellowes).
  
  Since this is just pre-packaged and labeled vegetable oil I will use that in the future in an empty old-style ketchup bottle. I would recommend buying a container for vegetable oil and using that instead. Be a smart consumer and save your money!

  I spoke with Fellowes, they say it's OK to use regular cooking vegetable oil (canola, etc.) in their machines, but only temporarily, not in the long run, because regular vegetable oil may become sticky and start smelling rancid. I'll stick with the dedicated oil and give it just 4 stars since there exists an alternative. I will, however, give Fellowes 5 stars for their candor. Also, be careful not to cut too big a chunk in the nozzle, so you won't waste the oil when oiling your machine.

  Instructions for the shredder merely state lubricate with veg oil, but must use a bottle with a tapered nozzle. So what you are buying is a rather expensive bottle (price plus shipping). But it was convenient to get shredder and bottle at the same time, since shredder instructions say lubricate before using. And lubricate often.

  The first unit I received was DOA. It insisted that the paper bin was full even when it was empty. There's an electronic (optical)sensor system that was either out of whack or just bad.
  
  I called Fellows and customer service was excellent. They replaced the unit immediately, e-mailed me an RA and UPS label and I shipped the original back on their "nickel". This one works well.

  In my opinion this is an unneeded item. I spent a substantial amount of time looking for the "Items In the Box list" on the Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs shredder. There was no oil mentioned on that list, however there is a bottle of oil included with the shredder that will probably outlast the shredder itself.
  
  Additionally this bottle that I purchased is so large it would probably last someone with 10 shredders a lifetime.
  
  I'm sure the product is fine but I don't think it's a necessary purchase.

  If you purchase one of Fellowe's heavier duty shredders, it should come with enough of this oil to last at least a couple of years. At least this was the case for me when I purchased an SB97c shredder. It's kind of hard to rate this with stars because I suppose it works, but at the same time it's completely overpriced for what it is and most of the time it's a totally unnecessary item. Lastly, as other reviewers have mentioned, this must be enough oil to last around 20 or more years of very heavy shredder use.
