Solid performance with great value! By A31RUHP4HET7O1 on 2003-12-23
Before I start, I would like to remind people that compatability problems still exist with CDRW burners. Some media brands will just work better on certain hardware/burners. On reviews like these, it's best to state your burner as well so readers will have an idea of what media matches best with what hardware/burner. I would also like to remind people that compatability problems exists between CDRs and late model CD players - wether on a boombox or on your car's player.Ok now onto my review... I have a LiteOn CDRW 40x burner (on my old PC), Teac DVD+/CDRW combo burner and an LG-Hitachi 48x CDRW burner. Memorex media works flawlessly on all these burners! Music CDs that I made plays perfectly on all my components - 5-disc Sony caroussel from the early 90s, my DVD player from 2000 and the rest of my CD players in the house and not to mention my car's CD player. No problems at all. The only problem I encountered was when I made VCDs using these disc. They "sometimes" wouldn't work on my Panasonic DVD/VCD player (year 2000). They would give me playback problems such as pixelation and audio skipping! But when using another brand, such as TDK or Fuji, I don't get these playback problems. The Memorex VCD would work on my dirt-cheat Apex though. Further, establishing the idea that media do have compatability problems. Considering my hardware, the brands that gave me no problems at all were: TDK, Fuji and Maxell - they just work flawlessly on whatever I throw at them. I would put the Memorex up there with the other brands but they seem to be only good when it comes to music and data but now much on video projects. But since most people use their CDRs for music and data anyway, these CDRs are still a great buy in my opinion! I currently have TDKs and Memorexs.
Is it live, or is it Memorex?? By A3GQHKRHA42RYX on 2002-10-06
It's Memorex! And with these CD-R's you're sure to have problem free burning of music and software. With other brands, I've experienced skipping, delamination of the optical material and burning errors but with these Memorex CD-R's, I've not had one problem.
Good dependable media By A1MQQEM7W77L62 on 2003-06-25
I'm not sure what would cause a bad review of these things. I'm using a Mac g4 with an internal cd/dvd combo drive with great results. I've made music and data discs for a number of people with macs and windows machines. And for home cd systems and cars and they all worked perfectly. So I'd have to say you will problably be OK with these, and if not selll them to a friend, they'll probably work for them, if they have another type of machine that is.
Prodisc By A1YE1MW9YG40A4 on 2003-08-04
I would surely never buy anything by Memorex, Imation, Verbatim, Sony, or TDK, because they're disloyal. The ATIP on all of those brands are either Prodisc, RiTEK, Sony Corp. AKA Lead Data and CMC Magnetics, which are all the worst factories in the world. Do not buy this product, they cannot write 48x, and the pthalocyanine dye is terrible. Look for FujiFilm, they are all Taiyo Yuden manufactured, and I consider Taiyo Yuden to be the #1 manufacturer. Maxell 50 pack "audio" CD-R's are also Taiyo Yuden, they're the same thing except a different pre-groove telling a stand-alone burner it's an audio CD-R I repeat, DO NOT, BUY, THIS, PRODUCT It's a waste of money for a piece of ...
Is it live or Memorex? You'll have 100 times to decide. By AT8TIN5JKHO2V on 2007-07-07
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's. Sometimes as a person that has worked in electronic stores my thoughts are requested on recording equipment and electronics.
Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x CD-R Media (100-Pack Spindle)
Memorex has been ultra reliable for me as a recording medium for blank CDR's. I have used a substantial amount over the years for both data and pictures (Notes on my Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and photos) and for various rock and roll albums.
The CD's have held up well and there have been very little that were defective right out of the package. While the quality control is a shade below the Fuji from Japan, in no way should Memorex be considered a poor second choice.
For maximum shelf life the recorded CD's should be in jewel cases and not in paper sleeves. If you are into making your own labels make sure to use the better quality paper. The inferior thin labels not only will curl up before they are placed on the CD but the glue will actually get into the CD itself. Many defective CD's are not the fault of the manufacturer but the consumer not using best judgment.
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

- No buffer-underruns yet
     By A3F3B6HY9RJI04 on 2003-11-25
I haven't used them all, but I haven't gotten a buffer underrun error yet. I have a 32X burner and it handles that speed just fine.
- Excellent product, used over 400 over the years....
     By on 2004-03-15
Memorex cd-r's are one of the best cd-r's on the market. I've been using them for the past 6 years or so and I've recorded around 400+ cd-r's over the years and probably have only had maybe a dozen bad cd's. Usually when you have a bad cd-r it is because I've gotten in such a hurry that I forget to turn off the screensaver that could cause problems in the recording of the cd (user mistake, not the cd-r). lol. Advice for users that aren't too familar with recording cd-r's, try not to leave your screen saver on while recording, also try not to be doing other things on the computer at the same time as you are recording cd's. This will help ensure that your cd-r will record perfect 100% of the time.
- Bad experience
     By on 2003-01-25
My exerience with these discs hasn't been good. They skip on my CD player, and my DVD player won't recognize them (neither will my portable CD player which I use in the car). The only place they work is on my PC at home and at work. I haven't had that problem with other brands. I had the same trouble with a box of Memorex CD-RW (which I bought at a different place). Actually, in that case, I two CDs out of 10 in the box weren't defective. Glad to hear others haven't been so unlucky.
- dissatisfied
     By on 2003-05-11
I bought a 30 pack of these. Five of them worked. The other 25 did not. I tried every single one! ... Don't waste your money. I also have older ones that are starting to delaminate also. It's not worth it. Bottom line: pay a couple of dollars more, and get a quality product if you value your music at all.
- By far the best consumer-grade CD-R
     By AXL05FSB4JMN1 on 2004-11-26
As a professional audio engineer, I use Memorex-brand CD-Rs for all of my personal audio and data projects. They're even good enough for entry-level professional mastering. While not the same caliber as a gold studio master (2-3x the price), they easily exceed any kind of standard a consumer or prosumer might be looking for. I've used about 800 or so in the past year without any problems. I think most of the problems the reviews are showing is either user error or bad recording equipment--I've never had problems.
- High Failure Rate
     By A16QJ649N8PRV on 2005-07-06
These Memorex CD-Rs did not work well at all for me. I would not recommend them.
I bought a spindle of 100 as the price seemed like a pretty good deal. I tried burning 20 of these. Out of that group of twenty, twelve were duds.
I am no audio expert by any means, and there may be some great reason why they didn't work with my system. Unfortunately, there was no warning indicating that they might not work well with certain types of computers. The system that I am using is a Dell that was new within the last few months.
I have also bought the Verbatim CD-Rs and had very good luck with them. I would caution buyers to consider buying a smaller quantity initially if they are thinking about buying the Memorex CD-Rs.
- Not the best CD-Rs, but far from the worst
     By A1YMRBM95P406 on 2003-05-28
Over the years I've used several different brands of CD-Rs and CD-RWs. Memorex is a solid brand, most of the disks on a spindle will burn fine, though you will gt some coasters.Personally, I'd prefer to use FujiFilm CDs (which are much more reliable), but Memorex is a better value. But for reliability and value, go with Imation.
- At $17.99, You'd Be A Fool Not To Get These
     By A175TPTHMNS7S4 on 2005-10-05
The Memorex 700MB/80-Minute CD-R has always been a favorite of mine. I've been through lots of different writers and all of them were compatible with this brand. In fact, I've been using Memorex for about 4 years now and I've yet to come across any problems. Whether you're making music CDs, backing up files, or just saving pictures, Memorex is probably your best bet. And if you buy two spindles on Amazon, you'll get free shipping. It's pretty much a no brainer. If there's a better brand out there, I haven't seen it yet.
- Great Product
     By A7QD47PSJDVI7 on 2005-10-23
I read all the time that Memorex is bad. I don't get it. I have been using Memorex for about a year now, and yet to find a bad burn or faulty CD-R.
- EXCEPTIONALLY POOR QUALITY!
     By AE0HFVSVCXB6H on 2005-11-28
Almost all of these Memorex cd's that I attempted to burn failed due to disc errors or other problems. The cd's thmeselves had a strong chemical smell as well. Definitely avoid this product!
- very good--but with a drawback or two...
     By A2R6RA8FRBS608 on 2007-10-24
Memorex makes a very reliable blank CD-R that can handle up to 80 minutes of music or 700 megabytes of data. Moreover, these blank CD-Rs are capable of recording data at high speeds. The data I recorded onto these CD-Rs has now lasted for over three years, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs and discs to record audio. I almost never got a coaster. Great!
The CD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data or music onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your CD-Rs that have anything stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.
There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than the packaging advertises (52x). This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your CD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the CD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note. At least that's what I do.
Overall, Memorex blank CD-R discs store data reliably over the years and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at the very highest speed advertised.
Use them in good health!
- First review and had to be a negative one, SORRY
     By AWTHTU9EWCYEI on 2004-05-25
I dont write reviews, well this is my first one.... well I bought tthis Memorex 80 Minute/700 MB 52X CD-R Discs (100-Pack Spindle), in January and I was so happy because i thought it was a great deal.... but I WAS WRONG, I dont burn cds daily, so the time passed, and I noticed that when I was burning any king of data in this cd-rs I noticed that they had file errors... so far I have thrown away like 20 cd-rs because they are not good backup copies, I have like 60 blank cd-rs and Im gonna throw them away....THE WORST THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT I CANT GET MY MONEY BACK.Thank you
- Try another brand
     By A21HVQO8UBS9IA on 2004-09-22
have rarely had problems recording music or mixed media data on to a disk. However, the 100 pack of Memorex CD-R I bought have made me think twice about ever buying their brand again. I use a Lite ON 40x CD-RW and most of the problems I have had in the past were a result of user error: recording at high speed, using other applications whilst recording data etc. Yet, it seems several CDs in the spindle I bought were corrupt. It took me about 10 CDs and several emails & calls to their customer service dept. to figure out their media was to blame. My firmware was up-to-date and I've never had compatibility problems before. After discussing this issue w/ friends, Memorex appears to have compatibility problems w/ some audio & recording components. The worst part about this problems is that I cannot get my money back either. My advice is to steer clear of Memorex and spend the extra few pounds on a TDK or Maxell CD-R

This is 100 blank CD's at less than twenty cents a pop. I use them to back up files, burn music, store pictures from my camera and distribute files. Buy a book or something to get the free shipping because at this price you can't go wrong.
- Compatability issues - Buyer beware!
     By AN4WI77HXD7I0 on 2006-04-13
I *really* wish that vendors would do a better job of giving us an accurate idea of what to expect with CD-Rs.
Case in point: I have a Sony RCD-W500C dual CD deck with burner. For making duplicates (I'm a musician and need to turn out multiple copies of demo disks & samplers), I prefer using that to my computer, because burning disks on my computer slows it down a bit at times, and because it's easier to burn them on the Sony deck.
Well, I plug these disks into my Sony, and it won't write on them. Calls them "data disks." This isn't the first time it's happened.
OTOH, I use my Mac G4 powerbook, and it burns 'em just fine. And I'd rather do that than send the disks back, though I was tempted.
Now maybe I should just get a better standalone CD burner that isn't so fussy about what you feed it. But when I buy disks calling themselves "audio CD-Rs," I expect them to work in an audio CD burner.
To make life more interesting, Memorex's "Music CDs" burn just fine in the Sony. But it's hard to find those in a 100-pack spindle.
Summary: Be careful what you buy.
- Back up your data for cheap
     By A1IU7S4HCK1XK0 on 2006-11-05
100 cds is a lot of cds (though you'd be surprised how many it takes to back up a PC. Uh, when DID you last back up YOUR data?)
You can put pictures, files, music on these cds. We use them just for data backup, and use Fellowes software and labels to make custom labels with contents. These are filed in an album and it's easy to reload or retrieve data in this manner. We have not had any problem writing or reading these cds.
- good quality
     By ATS4FKFOX9INH on 2004-01-28
It really doesnt matter what speed a cd writes,as long as it writes.I have a tendancy to use alot of cds,and I like these. They have 80 minutes and are able to fit usually about 17-19 songs on them (depends on how long the songs are). These always work for me.Never has one failed me.So these are a must-buy.Get some!
- Very Cheap Quality Media
     By on 2004-05-06
Now I know why these discs are so inexpensive. You get what you pay for. My Toshiba and Plextor burners can handle 16x and 40x burn speeds but anything over 2x with these discs will fail at about the 20% mark. When attempting to burn at speeds over 4x, these discs cause both my burners to vibrate loudly before failing. Maybe I just got a bad batch but the discs are very flimsy and the wavy imperfections in the dye is very obvious to the naked eye. When pulling the discs off the center holder of a cd jewel case, the discs will bend a lot more than any other disc I've used. You can tell these are low quality without even burning on them. I'm surprised I had a few successful burns. I will never buy these discs again and will stick to my favorite TDKs and Verbatims for a few dollars more.
- Terrible Experience with memorex 700mb 52x cdr
     By AYD4PFVY6DYPZ on 2004-09-06
I bought a 100 pack of the memorex 700mb 52x cdrs, and, while they worked at first, after a month or so they all produce "power calibration errors" on my sony crx168b burner, winXP pro, piii600, CD architect, EZCD, etc.. The burner works fine with all other brands. Have not been able to test on another burner, but even this performance is unacceptable. While I have had sucess with memorex in the past, I will look for alternatives in the future. I hope I can save someone the trouble I experienced.
best,

- Recent Problems
     By A3MEUZKGSHK8KK on 2005-10-16
I have used several of these spindles without any problems. The last spindle, however, had dirt particles inside the spindle's factory packaging, and every other disc was damaged - they would not burn with any burner or software I tried.
- I absolutely reccommend these CDRs
     By A38JMBORUQOM11 on 2006-03-17
I use these CDrs to make CDs for the Lord Jesus, and so I do it out of my own pocket, so it's important to me that I don't have a big failure rate! These are absolutely no-failure CDrs! I recently bought 500 of them, and had maybe 2 failures in the whole bunch! I mean for the cost, you are getting the very best quality! I almost bought velocity, but read the reviews, and boy was I glad I did... I was so glad when I punched in and found my good old memorex brand was still here and under 20.00 per 100!!!! For only .20 cents per CD, you can't go wrong, and with a brand name like Memorex, and with literally no failure rate with the last 500, I am putting my order in for 500 more!
I am a very happy Memorex and Amazon Customer!!!!
- Great CDs! Great Price!! Recomended!

- Good for certain speed writers but no the faster...
     By AKR1H6C5PNOIZ on 2005-05-17
I've bought several packs of the Memorex CD-R's and they all worked great until I got a new computer with a faster CD-RW (48X). The CDs worked great with the slower writer on my older computer, but with the faster writer there is either some user error...or in the off chance that it actually burns it sounds like there is a strong wind in the background...very annoying. For someone with a 16x CD-RW I would recommend these...but not someone one with a higher write speed.
- Memorex CD-R Spindles
     By A7UWZ2HKLBSXJ on 2005-06-23
We purchased a brand new, from soup to nuts PC in December '04. Our 4 year old HP 'puter totally crashed and couldn't be repaired because of damages during last season's Florida hurricanes. However, I finally figured out how to use the CD-R on the PC approximately 1 1/2 years ago, with the old PC. We used to purchase Memorex 50 or 100 CD-R spindles all the time, but this one tme (last week) we bought a package of 100 spindle Fujofilm CD-R's.
My former HP 'puter didn't have 40x speed. I don't remember what it had since I was teaching myself how to make CD's. Our new 'puter has a Gateway hard drive but our monitor, keyboard, and printer are all HP's, and we upgraded our speakers to Bose.
The fist thing I noticed with both Memorex and Fuji is that many of the CD-R's in either spindle are "duds" and I toss them in the garbage. I didn't even think to check until yesterdy whether Amazon sells these items. I was glad to see that, since 100 spindes at Best Buy cost an average of $50.00, so when some of the CD-R's are duds, throwing out that kind of bucks pisses me off.
On the other hand, even with the new 'puter where I have great speed, I really cannot hear any difference in quality between the old CD-Rs I made using the 4 year old HP vs the new 'puter. I used to always purchase Memorex but when I bought the Fujifilm a few days ago, it was because Fuji was on sale.
So call me crazy, but to me there is no difference in quality between Memorex or Fuji, no matter which PC I use. With the new 'puter, I now have version 2002 Windows Media Center running on Windows XP, service pack 2. But I use Musicmatch Jukebox, with the newest version 10 when I make CD's.
Therefore, I give Memorex 4 stars rather than 5, not because of the quality of Memorex, but because I had to throw out too many duds in every spindle. However, I think this sort of thing happens no matter which company you would purchase your CD-R's from. But from now on, when needed, I will start buying spindles from Amazon and save myself an average of $25 per a package of 100 spindles.
- Disks don't even record
     By AG9L6TIZAI6J2 on 2006-01-14
I've used about 20 discs so far and in the middle of the recording process there is some error and I have to throw them out. Out of those 20, only one disk completed recording. I have another set of disks that work fine so I know it's not my computer that's the problem. Don't waste your money on this item.
