I sleep in these and the sound is fine By A3RNAIFV56WG5E on 2005-06-09
I've owned about six pairs of these h.Ear headphones over the years and I usually lose them before they stop working. One pair did fall apart after about 18 months of nightly sleeping with them on.
I'm a compulsive audio book listener; have been for years. As I said, I fall asleep with these in my ears. When I wake up, they're still there. So I give these a good rating for comfort and ability to stay on. (BTW, sleeping with wires that could wrap around your neck and kill you is not a brilliant idea. I do NOT recommend this.)
I don't need a concert hall experience. Music sounds fine when I do listen. These things are perfect, however, for audio books.
When I mow my lawn or do other noisy work I put on a pair of those over-the-ear hearing protectors. They fit right over my h.Ear headphones so I can hear the stories just fine.
For less than ten bucks, these are pretty hard to pass up.
These are the best of the clip-ons. By ARNWCLQZFQECA on 2007-03-02
I now own THREE different pairs of clip-on earphones: Koss, Altec-Lansing, and Sony. The Sony are the best, for these reasons:
1. They position the speaker so it is facing FORWARD rather than towards the center of your head. This way, you get direct sound to your eardrum, and consequently the sound is louder (saves your batteries), and you get better high-frequency response (the sound doesn't have to turn a corner to get to your eardrum). It just sounds better than the others.
2. Stiff plastic design (no moving parts) makes them very easy to get on and off, and easy to tell left from right. They don't move around once they are on your ears.
3. The cord has a sliding part which allows you to secure the wires up under your chin, effectively giving you a single wire from your neck to the sound source. Handy for keeping the wires out of your zippers and collar, and, I think, handy for running, to keep everything secure.
4. No foam to irritate your ear and distance your eardrum from the sound.
Too bad they are orange. But the orange is ALMOST fleshtone, so it isn't too bad (for a white guy). Other clip-on's might look niftier (the Altecs have some chrome which looks way cool), but they don't work as well.
These are great clip-ons. Just buy them. At this price, I'll buy a second pair.
Doesn't fit small ears! By A20WMNBD988UPU on 2006-04-22
I don't have abnormally small ears or anything, but they ARE small because I'm a small girl. The headphones did not fit my ears well. They kept falling off and not staying in well. They are very nice though. My boyfriend has more normal sized ears and they fit perfectly on him. He loved them. I would just say not to get this product if you are a small person with kind of small ears. Otherwise, it is a great product.
Great Little Headphones By A1S5DJ1X9VZAM5 on 2004-09-29
This is my second pair of these headphones. The first pair is still working wonderfully after a year and a half of use at the gym. I bought the second pair to keep at work for when I'm stuck at a computer all day.
Top Reasons I love these Headphones:
They fit well with glasses and/or large earrings.
They stay on far better than similar "ear-bud" headphones.
Wrap around design means I don't need to jam them into my ears (ouch!).
No foam covers to sweat through and get all crusty.
Cute colors!
Great value for the price.
Long cord means I am not tethered to my music source.
Small unobtrusive design keeps the fact that you're tuning out the world from being obvious.
People around me can't hear the sound.
With reasonable volume, I can still hear people trying to get my attention.
I'm not overly sensitive about the sound quality of what I listen to. It sounds good to me! (not blown out or flat) These headphones do not sound like sticking your head into a live concert. If you want to play them REALLY loud, or hear only bass, buy some larger headphones. If you want small good quality cheap headphones for personal use that are comfortable and look good, these are it. Putting on the wrap-around ear things takes about one minute of practice to get used to. Fit with any headphones is a personal choice, so don't be militant if your ears are shaped differently than mine. These are the best wrap-around small phones I've found yet. Enjoy!
Fair. By AD1MS7BS3ZNZH on 2004-06-14
They look neat, sound fair, and tangle quite easily. Despite their appearance, they really are not well designed for active people. While running, sweat somehow manages to run down the plastic clips and "flood" the ear buds. It did not long before they started to sound weak, and lose bass response. Finally my right side blew, even though my MP3 player has a pretty mild sound output. I got a few months of use out of them, and am debating getting a new pair. I don't like the idea of disposable hardware; I expected much better from Sony.
- This hurts...
     By A1BUNU3IZ81TL6 on 2005-02-14
If I wear this for long, my ears hurt.
Although it fits well, but still I don't feel comfortable with these on.
The sound quality is average.
- not a good fit at all, decent sound
     By A20ICJ55H8W7XU on 2005-02-16
These would keep falling out of my ear, not a great design. The sound quality was ok though.
- Dissappointing Sound
     By A1SZ4LRATKQPAH on 2005-09-19
Yeah they fit good and are durable but their sound quality is awful. There is no mid at all, and the headphones are lacking in any sort of warmth. It sucks, I'd avoid these.
- Great for Sports and Work
     By A21ALD91W0NK1F on 2006-03-21
I bought these headphones about a month ago and they are by far my favorite to use for running. I had previosuly another pair of sony headphones (MDR-G57G) but I didn't like having the foam on my ears collecting sweat. The sound quality is a bit "tinny" compared to nicer over the ear headphones -- but with some tweaking of the eq settings in my mp3 player I get pretty decent sound. How the headphones fit in my ear did take some time to get used to, but they do stay on my ears during running. Overall, I'd highly recommend these headphones for sports use.
- Simply the Best!!! J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS!
     By on 2003-10-22
After never being satisfied with headphones, I have finally found the perfect pair. They are so comfortable, you forget that you have them on!!!!!! I use them at the gym, and at New York Jet Home Games {with - Sony SRF-M37V TV/Weather/AM/FM Radio Walkman }. Simply the best & most comfortable!!!! I have them in three different Colors!!
- Poorly design headphone
     By on 2004-02-20
I purchased this headphone 2 months ago and boy was I disappointed. Unless you have big ears to hook the headphones on, you are out of luck! The ear piece keeps falling off and you can not adjust the ear piece to make it fit. I absolutely wasted my money and if I were you, I try to find something else. The quality of the sound may be a good one but I haven't had a chance to make a fair judgement only because the darn thing keeps falling off from my ear!
- Great headphones, not perfect
     By A11D1KHM7DVOQK on 2005-08-10
I had recently purchased the MDRJ10. I love them, for the price. Later on, I might purchase the MDR-EX51LP.
SOUND QUALITY: The bass on them is heavy. Problem, the bass is so heavy that the highs are very poor. Even lowering the bass, the highs still sound undetailed, like I'm listening to music at a lower bit rate than I am. However, besides the highs not being detailed, the sound is great. VERY nice mids, and like I said, great bass. Just wished the highs were much clearer.
DURABILITY: Well, I am going to say that my old pair lasted 4 months, due to cable chewing from my bunny. The durability cannot be commented, but I'm sure they'll last long, they seem more finer built than the Fontopia earbuds.
COMFORT: Very comfortable. One thing I should point out is that this is the "one size does not fit all" deal. For some, this will be very comfortable, and on some people, they might not be able to wear them for five minutes without pain. Usually people with small eardums should avoid these, unless you tried them on before buying.
PORTABILITY: They're earbuds...enough said.
PRICE: For the price, you can't go wrong. These are my favorite > $10 earbuds. There is a good chance of me buying the MDREX51LP, for the great highs that this couldn't produce, but if they don't last long like a majority of reviewers had said, I'm sticking with these.
- Left side stopped working after less than a week.
     By A10Z2KZF69WCKZ on 2006-04-22
I used these for biking. They were ok for a few days, minimal wind noise, but the left side just stopped working after less than 4 hours of use.
- Great for Exercise
     By on 2003-06-01
I purchased these to use with my MiniDisc player, and they're great to use during exercise. They stay in place even in the sweatiest ears and have good sound for the price. These probably aren't headphones that are going to last for years and years, but c'mon, they're less than ten bucks!!
- Average, at best
     By on 2004-04-24
These actually fit my ears pretty good. I prefer the look of the Sony MDR-J11's which look like they might be less bulky, but they are harder to find than these. What really disappointed me was the sound quality. I know these are cheap headphones, but I thought a company like Sony would do much better. My Iriver mp3 player came with Sennheiser MX100 earbuds (cheaper in price than the Sony's), but I can't stand earbuds (they won't stay in), so I bought these to replace them. The sound quality on the Sennheisers is noticeably much better. Don't waste your money on these Sony's, find something else.
- Not the right fit
     By A1JN03ZIYJW0ZE on 2005-02-07
These headphones just did not fit my ears at all. They keep falling off when I'm just walking much less taking them for a run.
- sound is good, fit is not
     By A1UGZ43AXK1RSV on 2005-03-30
this was the first pair of these types of headphones i'd ever bought, so i cheaped out. the sound is decent but if you're going to use them doing any type of physical activity, forget it, they'll be slipping out of your ears, especially running/jogging or any type of exorcising that causes sweat. they will become slippery and impossible to keep in. you'll spend more time fidgeting with them than anything else.
- Good for the price
     By AQK574OEL6RI0 on 2006-02-03
These headphones have good quality, not sure on the durability as of yet, but what people have to realize that since they are only $10, they aren't the best quality and everything, they get what they pay for. The sound is more oriented toward bass, and I never got the chance to compare these with my original ipod headphones before they blew out on me, so I couldn't test the true bass on those. Also, people have to understand that everyone's ear is different and that not all styles will fit, however, some people are so filled with pride, they don't even read how to correctly orient the headphones so they are in the correct position. All in all, they are a good set of replacement headphones for a decent amount of money and I would recomend them for mp3 and cd players for the best use.
- Perfect for the Gym: Running, KickBoxing, Cycling, Etc
     By A2B0I1054EU0YS on 2006-02-22
I bought this 4 years ago, but yesterday the right side of the earphone stopped working. I've worn these daily at the gym, and they are fantastic. If you are looking for a gym-worthy earphones that can handle the motion and sweat for hours, then this one is for you. I've ran, cycled and kickboxed with these earphones and I've had no problem with it. Before this, I've tried 4 different earphones for the gym, and none of them would stay on my head. Since my old one has retired, I'm planning to order the same one and won't even bother with any other types/brand. Sound quality is really good (but then again, I'm not really an expert on sound bass etc).
One disadvantage: They're a bit chunky; not foldable. And the length is a bit too long so I always have to wrap it around my mp3 player to shorten it (I'm 5'2" and the chord is 48" long from the plug to the tip of the earphones).
- Great Headphones, Cheap Price
     By A1CEQNL8MNZUV6 on 2006-02-25
These were the second pair of these headphones I bought, the first ones lasting many years. I have been more than happy with both sets and recommend them to my friends. Neither set has ever slipped off my ears unless I failed to put it on properly (which isn't hard to do, it just happens from time to time). In addition, the clarity and power you get out of something so small (for so cheap) is remarkable.
Of course the sound isn't quite as good as the large noise-cancelling headphones that cost much more but I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for light, portable, and great-sounding headphones that don't add much to the profile of an ipod, MP3 player or cd player when being stored in a bag or purse.
- Nobody agrees on the fit!
     By ARQPG0OX4J8RS on 2006-03-11
I've tried all types of lightweight headphones and I have a very difficult time with finding a pair that will stay put without causing pain. For me, these work better than any other headphone design. Period.
***** The reviews I've read that say they don't fit are exactly the opposite of what I experienced, so if you need a solution to a 'fitting' problem please try these for yourself. *****
Sound is above average but not 5-star rating, but since they fit I would not own any others!
- Pretty good deal
     By A388SWT4R2O1Y1 on 2006-03-15
First: these headphones aren't orange, they're pink. The speakers on these phones look forward, they're not turned into your ear, so they don't have the volume they might if they faced the ear canal(if you press on them they are loud). This actually may be a good thing, since they are easier on the ear than some other kinds. They are econonomical in the power they consume; they'll run all day on one battery. The sound is good, not great - these are low-cost headphones, so let's not expect audiophile quality. That said, they are quite acceptable. THEY STAY ON YOUR EAR. For me, they are just fine.
- Great fit for me...better than any other earbud type I've tried.
     By A2I4ZBIVQRA0IV on 2007-01-06
I was originally introduced to these when a previous boss bought them so we could listen to interviews for long periods of time. I found that they were so comfortable that I even forgot they were in - which is something I CAN'T say about the stock earbuds that came with my iPod.
When I wanted to buy some new earbud-type headphone, I immediately turned to these again. They are easy to put on, and contrary to what some of the other reviews say, they stay put in my ears. My husband runs long distances and I bought him a pair and he loves them.
Pros:
- Comfortable
- They stay put (for me at least)
- They come in lots of fun colors (as I girl, I like that)
Ho-hum:
- The sound. It's not bad, but it's not GREAT either. Just good for listening to music on my iPod, really.
- The cords. They're very thin and they get tangled up really easily.
- They are very...obtrusive. They are definitely not hidden in your ear...you have these brightly colored thing all around your ear. Could be a little more than most people want out of an earbud headphone.
- Highly Reccomended
     By A2CCT4CIXHXACD on 2007-04-09
Very comfortable. I have small ears and still have no problems with these guys staying on while I'm working out. I'm very picky about my headphones at the gym and I am very pleased with these. Can't beat the price either!
- Usuable, but not great...
     By A3IECUSDG2SL08 on 2007-04-14
My intent was to get earphones that don't fall out while I'm working out. These definitely don't. The wires seem ridiculously long though, and I had to tuck them into my armband to keep them from getting in the way. The sound is okay (not perfect, but respectable). I am a little disappointed with the sound, but only becuase Sony usually comes out with such high quality stuff. Lastly, this may be a unique complaint, because I have small ears, but the earphones definitely hurt after a little while.
- Designed for a selected few however very inexpensive.
     By A2MQD9PDQGEBVM on 2003-03-31
I love sony, however these headphones are barely above par. I wear glasses so they don't fit correctly and consequently don't feel comfortable at first. I'm use to them now but they are very sleek and I barely notice them now. I like them because they're not in my hair. I somewhat like the tangle free design because I occasionally find knots in them after taking them out of my bag.The sound quality is fairly good. However along with all the rest of the reviews, the bass is not very strong. I am also not really into pumping the bass up, but I like a little in my electronica/dance music. It is adequate but I'd like more. Considering that they have only 13.5 mm drivers, it's to be expected. I would advise at least 30mm drivers for you bass people.
- Good value for the price w/ Above Avg quality
     By A33C17LE8S86B1 on 2004-05-06
A LITTLE BACKGROUND: These are the third set of headphones that I have purchased in 4 years. I also have earbuds from Sony with "mega Bass" capability, and another pair of ear-huggers from Sharp. I use my Sony MDR-J10s for the gym and when I go jogging. I use an RCA MP3 player with DSP capability (bass inducer)PROS: -Cheaper than other versions of ear-huggers -Variable colors allow personalization -Sound quality is not as 'tinny' (compared to my pair by Sharp), but this might be dependent on the device you use. Not as good as 'megaBass', but if you're outdoors it's good enough. -The ear 'hooks' are strong/durable enough to withstand small tugs to the headset. CONS: -Like most ear-huggers they constantly get tangled. I've yet to see a set withi a good storage case. -Non-gripping, smooth plastic of the 'huggers' don't always cling to your ear. -For people with small ears, there is no guarantee they will fit. OVERALL: Don't expect superb sound since Sony doesn't claim any 'megaBass' improvement. Ear huggers are designed for active people, but don't think they'll stay in your ears if you pull really hard! They're cheap, and work for my activities. If they break, just buy another (or the better ones that come out in the future).
- Great clip-on earbuds!
     By A3KXKO791KXMI4 on 2004-12-11
I picked the h.ear headphones because I lost my previous earbuds and I needed something that won't fall out of my ear when I lay my head on the side like most earbuds do. The headphones were tricky to put on correctly at first but within 10 minutes I could put them on easily with no problems. I wear wireframe glasses but I wore the headphones with them for over an hour without discomfort. They were surprisingly comfortable considering it's all solid plastic with no soft material used. Because "one size fits all" doesn't work for everyone, I highly recommend you buy your first set from a local shop in case you find that it simply won't fit and need to return it. The sound quality is just about what I'd expect from average ten dollar earbuds and sound good enough for my purposes. Sound leakage is minimal; unless you're one of those who like to play it loud, it's unlikely a person standing next to you will hear what you're listening to. The best part of the headphone for me is the adjustable piece on the cord that allows you to adjust the point at which the cord goes apart; if used right, the chances of tangled cords is reduced dramatically. Overall, it was a good buy for me.
- No problems
     By A1IYL9LO3KHE3Y on 2005-06-14
I currently own three pairs of these headphones (one for home, one for work and one for travel) and don't have a complaint about them. Maybe they aren't top of the line, but for the price, you can't go wrong with them. Good sound, they are comfortable and can be adjusted to fit more snugly in your ear using the anti-tangle slide on the cord. Good value for a good product.
- These headphones blow!
     By A354QUTR6ICJLS on 2005-08-03
I received my item and was ecstatic as I opened the package. I had bought the headphones, hoping they would remain in place hooked on my ears. I had hoped they would stay in place better than the stock headphones I received with my iPod. Keep the stock headphones!! These Sony h.ear's kept falling off! They wont hug the inside of your ears at all!!!
