Cute, but not Practical! By A11ZQQZ5XJ3QWH on 2004-11-01
Although I love the concept of this book, I have found that it isn't very practical. It's a book that needs to be used under supervision and stored somewhere out of reach. The little magnets end up all over the house and the book isn't interesting enough or engaging enough to be worth the trouble. The magnets fit like a puzzle into their own particular places; they don't allow for creative play like other magnetic books. The pictures aren't particularly cute and I would describe this as a run-of-the-mill alphabet book.
hours of independant play By AYL1QUJXOLHX9 on 2004-06-26
My daughter loves this book so much. It is made so much better than a lot of wooden toys that fall apart at the edges. I do recomend that your child be over their "everything in the mouth" phase as the pictures on the pieces will wear off easily. Also, I wish this book had a simple latch to keep it shut without the pieces falling out.
Great toddler toy By A3EROQDSJWW9MP on 2003-09-28
I bought this book for my child just before she turned 2. This book is not only a great ABC book (because the choices to illustrate the letters are different from the norm - "o" is for octopus), but also a nice puzzle so as I am reading the caption under each picture, my child's hands are busy with the puzzle. The magnetic puzzle pieces remain in place even when the book is dropped and the rhyme (even after being read 1000 times) is still pleasant. I have bought this for several gifts and everyone else seems pleased as well.
One of the best toys ever! By on 2004-03-06
My daughter (1 1/2) received this puzzle book as a gift and she loves it! Of all the puzzles we own this is the one she is drawn to time and time again. It is a great toy because she can occupy herself for at least 20 minutes or I can sit and play with her. I love that the puzzle pieces are just her hand size and slightly magnetized. The illustrations are also bright and colorful. I just bought this puzzle for my nephew too because it is such a great gift. The only reason I rated it 4 on durability is because the edges are slightly starting to wear, but considering that she plays with it several times a day everyday, I think it has worn well. I definately recommend this puzzle for kids this age.
Melissa & Doug should have thought on this a bit more By A1VQCOMUERYLCP on 2005-01-07
While we have several of these wooden puzzles, this appears to be the one they didn't think through. It's a wonderfully constructed book but easily dismantled. My 2 year old can remove all the magnetic pieces but rarely puts them back. And like another reviewer it must be used under complete supervision. Unlike the "noisy" puzzles that my son will not leave alone. They are wonderful toys but this one really should have some improvement to it since the age range is really wrong for it. I love it, don't get me wrong but it does need some re-thinking since it is a product that young children can take apart and with small pieces there is a choking hazard. Or at least a chance that they will get stuffed into little mouths unless properly supervised.
- Good ABC Book
     By A2O2PEZQ5CVVSZ on 2005-11-29
We have had this magnetic ABC book for a year now. We take it out to look at together every few weeks or so. The pieces are all intact and the book is fairly entertaining. My 2-year-old likes to take all of the pieces out, one by one, and then he will name the pictures as he puts them back in the correct positions. In my opinion, the illustrations are just OK, but then, that's not really the point of this product.
My 2-year-old book fanatic will sit and "read" his books for 45 minutes at a time, several times a week. This is not one of his favorites, but every so often, he seems to enjoy it. It's something different anyway. I like the "hands-on" approach this book provides.
This would make a great car or plane trip toy, provided that you bring a carry case for all of the pieces. This is quiet, educational, somewhat engaging and requires no batteries.
- One of son's new favorites

My son received this for Christmas. He has chosen to read this book before bedtime each night since Christmas. He likes if I take out the pieces on each page and then he puts the pieces in correctly as I read each description.

I recently purchased this book for my cousin who is two years of age. I would not recommend this item for any child under the age of four. There are small pieces that could easily be lost or swallowed. However, the item is very colorful and a wonderful learning tool for preschoolers.
- Fantastic!

I purchased this book for my son who has Autism. This book is FANTASTIC. It has great learning value, great for dexterity (putting the pieces in) and great for teaching him to follow instructions and steps! This is one of the best purchases I have made, and it keeps his attention!
- excellent learning tool for little ones

This wonderful little book has magnets with pictures of things that start with each letter. My 2-year old has the magnets all over the fridge.

I bought this book as a sanity-saver to take on my recent 4-hour plane ride with my then 19 month old son. It served its purpose and then some. He still loves this book, over a month later.
I was surprised to read other comments about losing the pieces and having to play "supervised" with this book, as I have had no problem with this at all. Sometimes we read the book together, and sometimes he "reads" it himself. He hasn't lost a piece, yet and this book has been on many excursions with us, including the one mentioned above, where we took it across the country. (including connecting flights)
My only complaint is that the pictures aren't so great. In fact, it is very difficult to discern the animal in the "M" picture for monkey... even for me. But they're not all bad. It was still a great choice for us.

I really liked this book, the first day. After that I was missing pieces, stepping on pieces, pulling them out of mouths...and I was supervising! My son loves the pictures, but takes them on trips and loses them. Then I find them and the dog has chewed on them, or my daughter has found them...I finally gave up. It is now a wooden book with places for magnets.
- great puzzle

My [...] loves puzzle. and flipping the pages. Very sturdy peices, even though they have gone in her mouth a few times, I still love this puzzle book and am very suprised at the negative comments. If your child likes puzzles and flipping pages this is for you!
- Awesome Product and Clever Idea
     By A27S37KZ816QR6 on 2008-09-10
This book is awesome! Bought it for my 2 year old and she loves to play with it. Illustrations are well done and the book is very durable. First seeing some ware on the edges of the pieces on our first book after a year of high use. The magnetic pieces stay in place making this a good travel toy for the car. We also have the animals version. My daughter will be three shortly and already knows the ABC's and animals from us playing with these puzzles with her. We have given several of the animal books as gifts over the last year.
- ONE OF MY DAUGHTER'S FAVORITES
     By on 2003-11-13
My daughter received this toy at 12 months and loves it! She is now 18 months and plays with it almost everyday. You can use it in so many ways for your child to learn and have fun. We use it as a puzzle, fun magnets for the refrigerator, reading/learning words, as well as play mix and match games. Her vocabulary has grown tremendously with use of this book. There are a lot of pieces though and a few have been lost over the months...who knows where a toddler hides things! I would definintely recommend this book. In fact,I am buying several to give away as christmas gifts!
