  • Good, But a Word of Warning...

    By A35NBGDTL6F2XJ on 2004-12-15
These CD-Rs will work with most systems. 95% of mine recorded just fine. The only problem I had was that over time, the white coating on the CD has started to peel off. This hasn't happened to all my discs, but a few of them have started to chip, causing problems with the playback.

In general, these are pretty good budget price CDs for everyday use. But if you're looking for something to save your songs or data for a long period of time, choose something else.

  • Glitch Free discs, and they work in my car

    By A14JBDSWKPKTZA on 2004-03-11
The odd thing about CD-R's is that certain manufacturers work in come players, but not in others. When a tech friend first mentioned that to me, I didn't believe it. So here's how it works. I have a regular Kenwood CD player (this does not apply to newer players who are CD-R-RW capable) My Kenwood will accept Memorex CD-R discs without any glitches. Sony's on the other hand don't work.
My brother also has a Kenwood CD in his car, and oddly enough the Memorex don't work in his car, but the Sony's do. So even within the same manufacturer, not even the same discs work. So if you have an older player, that is designed to play regular CD's find your manufacturer that works with your player, and load up on them. For me the Memorex works great.

Another interesting thing is that my older CDRW drive had a max speed of 6X. Unless I set it to record at only 2X, it would have skips. The new technology is great. I bought a Lite On CDRW which is a 52x32x52x, and it records a full speed without a single skip. So buying discs that run at 52x is a dream. I record a whole album in such a little bit of time, I can't believe it.
I never have a skip or any kind of problem with these Memorex discs, and the price here at Amazon is great. So I highly recommend them.

  • memorex , affordable and reliable

    By A2TIAQDH1B16M0 on 2007-06-08
these cds are good quality and most burn good. at times a couple out of a 50 pack may be bad but that is good compared to some other brands like hp where i had about 10 bad out of 50. i recommend these cds and i have been using them for quite awhile.

  • best cd-r's

    By AN8J5C2OX1ENW on 2003-03-03
These cd-r's have been the best I have ever used. No matter if I am burning video, audio or storing any other kind of data, I have never had a problem with these. Imation, Sony and Maxell all have given by errors before, so I stick with Memorex. I have probably purchased more than 10 of these 50-packs in the last year alone.

  • Good CDs

    By A1Y2KZ13KXSE83 on 2007-06-01
I've bought a lot of CDs and have been pleasantly surprised with these. After using about 25 of them, they all have worked in computers and CD players.

  • Didnt Work For Me
    By AGIMWEW5ZWUJL on 2003-06-15
My CD burner didn't like these CD-R's. I was having trouble finding the brand I had been using, so thought I'd try something new. I read the rave reviews here, and decided to give these Memorex CD's a try in my Marantz professional CD burner. They burned, but with a lot of static interfering with the music. I tried a second time, and got the same result. Went back to TDK with the same good results I'd had previously. I'm sure it matters what CD burner you use, whether or not these will work for you. Didn't work for me.

  • Decent Burn, some Failures, Middle of the Road Discs.
    By A17BUUBOU0598B on 2004-08-31
Read all of the reviews for these discs and you will have very mixed emotions. Some people love them to death. Others claim they produce too many failed burns. Still others claim they burn nice, but don't last. All of these observations are true to some degree.

These discs aren't the highest quality CD-Rs, and they're not the worst either. Successful burning depends on a lot more than just disc quality, including which software you use and what speed you have it set to. If you set it to 52X, I can guarantee you that you will have some failures. Slow down the recording! 48x or even 32x are both acceptable, and will yield less failures. Don't be duped because your drive says "52X" on the front of it. Trust me on this one.

I can say from personal experience that I have had some failures with these discs. But they are cheap for a reason. I have to give this package a 4 instead of just a 3 simply because they are so cheap. Out of the $10 spindle, I've probably had $1.40 worth of failures. It's still cheaper than buying better ones of the shelf.

For those who must have high fidelity and highly reliable recordings, this may not be the disc for you. Invest in the Maxell or the TDK, which I have had a little more luck with. For those who just want extra discs to do backups and copy CDs, these discs give a decent bang for the buck.

  • a very trustworthy brand of digital media
    By AFNCXMCX7VZWH on 2003-06-01
Memorex is widely used and known by many people with access to CD Burners or CD drives. Memorex markets their CD-Rs at a very inexpensive price (with super mail in rebates to match, so you can get them sometimes at next to nothing), and they are also very reputable and trustworthy. I have not had a problem with Memorex yet.

I had mainly used memorex discs for trading live material from bands (the smashing pumpkins in general). Believe me, I have had more than enough time to try out every brand (one summer and over 1000 CDs worth of live material)...Imation, PNY, TDK, Maxell, Fuji-Film, Teon, Durabrand, Philips, No-Name Brand, everything. Among those, I would say that Memorex is one of the best I've used. The only brands I rank out memorex with is Fuji and TDK, because of the scratch resistant surface on those brands. I've used Memorex's blue-bottomed discs, as well as the green bottomed ones. My only complaint is that Memorex CD-Rs get scratched up quite easily. Besides that, this product would get a 5. Keep it up memorex, you're doing great!

  • Quality has declined
    By A2V91L1PY0PWMK on 2006-01-07
I bought a spindle of these in 2004 and had no real problems with them. In December 2005 I bought a new 50-pack and noticed that the CDs smelled of solvent or plasticizer and had irregular, lumpy edges. I've had errors on each of the first five discs I have attempted to burn. With my previous batch I had a very low error rate. Unless Memorex raises their QC standards I would recommend trying your luck with a different manufacturer. With an 0 for 5 record so far, I have to give this product one star.

  • Got defective batch?
    By A14CAPUND0BWFA on 2006-01-09
About half of the 50 CDs I got where defective. They worked well up to 400MB, but the last files recorded on the CDs would be corrupted if recording to full capacity. Unfortunately I discovered this only by losing some data. Maybe I just got a defective batch, but I won't buy Memorex CD-Rs again.

  • Great Price and Great Product
    By on 2003-11-13
I disagree with sid60's review, I have been using the Memorex brand for more than a year now, and so far, I never got a single bad disc. It has to be his cd writer, computer, or software. I have a 52x Lite-On drive, and I use burning sofwares like Nero Burning Rom, Clone CD, CDRWIN, DiscJuggler to burn cds all the time, againt, never got a problem. Also, the cds that are made in Taiwan are in high quality as well. As of 11/12/2003, it's only $9.98 for one 50-Pack Spindle, everyone should stock up, I did, hehe.

  • Not Worth..
    By AC6RFZ2E2NZIM on 2005-03-06
Thinking Memorex will be of good quality and there would least chances of coasters, I bought 3 Spindles (30 CD-Rs each).. I have tried variety of Drives (I/O Magic, Mad Dog and Micro Advantage).. I have always used Roxio Media creator 7.. With the above combination, I have been successful in burning one out of 4 or 5 Discs.. Mostly I get Media Errors and Some weird errors.. The 4th or 5th CD that burns, takes atleast 5~7 Minutes..!! Funniest thing is, the Free after rebate CD-Rs burn past (2~2.5 Minutes and w/o No Errors absolutely) and perform beautifully..!!

If you are thinking of storing and preserving, Precious Data/Video, Please go for TDK/Verbatim..!!

  • Plenty of better options
    By A3M6QA8T89Y6F7 on 2006-12-13
I've been using Memorex CDRs for a while but my latest spindle of 100 has given me (more) grey hairs. I've gone through 30 in the spindle and may have gotten 5 good CDs out of the bunch. My first indication of a problem was when I inserted the very 1st CDR from the spindle into my PC and got the error message "This is an unformatted disc. Please format the disc before attempting to burn." It was all downhill from there. The burned CDs skip, stop, re-start and/or freeze in my CD players. Also, multiple listens to the same CD results in skips in different spots - sometimes track 1 is fine, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes you'll get all the way to track 4 before everything stops. This means you've got to listen to every CD in its' entirety to determine if it's defective or not. I've performed every test imaginable: 2 different burner programs, 4 different CD players & ultimately, CDRs from 2 different manufacturers and it's the CDs themselves. Sorry, Memorex, I can't recommend your product.

  • A Good Burn, But Not Built to Last
    By ARMIOX4OG9APG on 2004-04-07
As other reviewers have mentioned, these CDs will burn very reliably. Nearly every time that I've attempted to burn a CD, it's worked, and I've burned several hundred with this particular brand.

However, I keep all of my CDs in binders and I've found that even though I take good care of my CDs, after 6 months, many of the CDs will begin to wear down. While the surface of the disc may remain scratch free, placement in a binder seems to flake away tiny spots onto which the disc records, leading both to skipping and poor ripping of that CD.

I suppose if you keep your CDs in jewel cases, this will work for you, but if you keep your CDs in binders, you may want to try Maxell CDs.

  • Too Cheap of media!
    By on 2004-06-01
I thought I had great respect for memorex, but after this I do not. I would say this spindle that I picked up on a whim becuase of price is about 50/50. Half burn and the other coaster. This is on a Plextor which never coastered until now. I dunno probably the last time I buy media online from a big store. Anymore I choose to go to media specialty stores, they sell good media and they give you a good price. Don't know what happened to quality control but it went downhill for memorex. Spend less on commercials and get yourself decent products.

  • These Are the CD-R's to Buy
    By A1F6DHVFE1ZIXX on 2004-12-01
First off, I'd like to address all the reviewers who say they've had problems with Memorex CD-R's. I also had problems in the past with Memorex. They would seemingly burn fine, but they wouldn't play even when I put them in my brand new cd player which is designed to play CD-R's, MP3 cd's, and all of that. It would either skip so badly that you couldn't listen to it or else just freeze and not play anything. BUT, those days are over, I believe. I just recieved these new Memorex CD-R's a few days ago, and they've been perfect so far. I tried them in all my cd players and they've all worked beautifully. I had no problem with the burning process either. Memorex has apparently fixed these problems.

So, now that that's out of the way, if you're looking for cheap, quality CD-R's, this is the way to go. There's nothing wrong with them that I could tell. The sound quality is fine (although this depends almost entirely on the quality of the mp3 and not the quality of the CD you burn it to) and the price compared to the amount of cd's you get is the best I've seen (actually it's dropped 3 bucks in the last few days...I should have waited to buy them!).

In the end, it's only 4 stars because of course there are higher quality products out there. If you're looking to buy these, don't let the bad reviews hold you back. Buy them and start burning some great music.

  • excelent price but not the best media
    By A2FX89THE3GL0Q on 2005-10-25
Only the 30% of the cds that i burn work in my Memorex MP3 Player. The disk have troubles to be played on my dvd player. Also, my computer have problems to read those cds.

  • Complete Junk
    By A2FTYECXQA02KY on 2007-07-15
These blank cds were almost half off all the others. I just figured they were on sale and had no idea they were unloading a faulty product. They are terrible! I've wasted a lot of time burning these cds just to throw them out. About every 5th or 6th disk makes a playable cd.

  • don't be fooled
    By A3K1S1K298OHIV on 2003-10-23
I burn a ton of cd's & usually theese are a good disc, but out of 50 discs I had to discard 19. As a norm most discs made in usa or japan are your best quality, but theese are made in taiwan(not very good quality ).
So by trying to save money on what I thought were good discs I got burned, don't be fooled also.

  • GrEaT CD's
    By A3S0407T1RYYXW on 2005-01-31
These are great Cd's to burn for everyday use.I have tried Philips,Verbatim,Sony,TDK,and Memorex.I like Memorex the most because they give you great products with great prices.Although,I have experienced a few CD's starting to get yellow on the surface. But that happened because I just left them on my table for too long. All in all, these are great CD's for great prices.I burn Cd's 7-8 times a week and there are fine.

  • Good but be careful while choosing a case for these
    By A3I7OICQXILNL4 on 2005-04-12
Following are some of the most important thing for a CD. And this is how I rank it.

Capacity: 700 MB (5 Star). This is sufficent size for any album of even for some movies. I have burned almost 20 movies (as data file)
Speed: 52X (5 Star): It takes around 2-3 mins to burn one CD, however it depends upon many other factors like RAM of system, Brand of CD Writter etc. Some CD writters write really fast.

Durability: Avg (3 Star): Durability is okay. But buy a good case to store these CDs, Put only once CD in one case. dont keep the cd one on top of other. Elese there is possibility that it might damage other cds.

Good vs Junk Cd Ratio: 10:1 (good 4 star): This means an avg out of 10 cd one cd i am not able to burn, which is not bad. I have used Verbatim which was 10:4.

  • Thought it was my burner, but....
    By AURAXE2UI6F2I on 2006-01-26
I have used Memorex in the past with no problems. I bought a couple 50 packs spindles and burned abour 20 of them with no problem. Then the next one failed at he beginning of recording, and the next and the next and the next. In all, I have had about 15 failures in a row on both my laptop and desktop computers. At first, I thought my burner went bad, but I tried some Fuji disks that I had (recording the same thing) and they worked every time. I can not record any music or data files on these Memorex disks. Even if Memorex would replace them, I want something I can trust.

  • Okay, just not so great...
    By A23J1T7UNX14TK on 2006-10-29
When I purchase CD-R's I usually go by whats on sale because, as I thought, all CD-R's were pretty much the same. I found out how wrong I was. What I discovered is that even though the cd would seem to burn without a problem when I would play the burned disks on my new stereo system, after the first few tracks, it would sound as if the disk was "skipping". It would get so bad as to only play a couple seconds, freeze up for a min, then play a couple more just to freeze up again. At first I was surpised and I thought that either my CD burner was going bad considering it was brand new or my stereo just didn't like burned disks. I just couldn't believe that either the stereo or the burner was the problem, so I decided to do an experiment to figure out the reason behind the issue. I know for a fact it isn't my stereo as it works perfectly with any other brand of CD-R I have burned with (Imation, Verbatim). What I did is I burned a Memorex CD-R with some songs on it as well as a Verbatim CD-R with the same stuff on it. Then I tried to play both in my CD player and guess what, the Memorex was "Skipping" and the Verbatim worked perfectly! Both 50 packs of Memorex I bought had the same issue throughout the package. My cd player on the other hand doesn't have as much of a problem with the memorex disks and doesnt stop playing but you can notice a faint skipping sound in the background if you listen closely. I'm sure not all of you will have the same issue of "skipping" because I do only notice it a lot on my stereo system. Since Memorex no longer does the trick for me I will not be buying them anymore no matter what sale is going on. I just don't trust them. I was turned off to Memorex's CD-RW's a few years back because they would burn but about half the cds in the 10 pack wouldn't erase after they'd been burned on. I just don't get it... I know Imation CD-R's and RW's work perfectly and I know Verbatims CD-R's and RW's work just as well as I have not encountered a problem like with Memorex. Not saying any of you will experience the same issues or notice the "skipping" but don't say I didn't warn you if you have the same issues. Maybe I just got a bad batch.....twice...lol

  • memorex cd's 52x
    By A1XSGQSXVK2AIH on 2007-04-03
I perfer memorex cd's they seem to accept data better and are better priced..I did alot of surfing and found for the money and ..they are the top quilty cd's Ive never had to toss one due to errors..

  • So far so good
    By A1BNH45MQV4KBM on 2003-08-25
I've burned about 25 of these cd's on my computer (TDK burner) and several more on my stereo's burner (Sony), and so far every one has worked perfectly. Pretty good track record, especially considering the unbelievable price.

I'm curious as to what kind of equipment those who have had problems are using.

  • perfect
    By A1JXIJN958N5PM on 2004-05-06
Memorex is the best brand for CD-R. Never had any problems whatsoever with their CD-R's. Other brands have a tendancy to skip after repeated usage, not so with Memorex! Highly recommended.

  • Try another brand
    By A21HVQO8UBS9IA on 2004-09-22
have rarely had problems recording music or mixed media data on to a disk. However, the 100 pack of Memorex CD-R I bought have made me think twice about ever buying their brand again. I use a Lite ON 40x CD-RW and most of the problems I have had in the past were a result of user error: recording at high speed, using other applications whilst recording data etc. Yet, it seems several CDs in the spindle I bought were corrupt. It took me about 10 CDs and several emails & calls to their customer service dept. to figure out their media was to blame. My firmware was up-to-date and I've never had compatibility problems before. After discussing this issue w/ friends, Memorex appears to have compatibility problems w/ some audio & recording components. The worst part about this problems is that I cannot get my money back either. My advice is to steer clear of Memorex and spend the extra few pounds on a TDK or Maxell CD-R

  • The least reliable media I've used so far
    By ADP9OKUYOSYCW on 2005-05-17
After buying a CD-R drive, I started buying whatever media I came across - by Memorex, Sky, Xeo, etc.

The memorex media were worse by far, both in failure during the burn process and in read errors that rise a short while (in time and number of reading cycles) after the burn.

As far as video goes, "is it live or is it memorex" means a very simple thing for me - either it looks live or it's on memorex media. Video on memorex media often causes media player to replay a section twice or thrice or to skip some frames, which never happened to me with Xeo or City Disc media.

Thus I've stopped buying memorex CD-R in favour of other brands.

  • Good price but problems in Clarion DB336MP car stereo
    By A1XJM3BPS3RDRJ on 2005-10-22
I don't know if anyone else does or doesn't have similar problems, but I burned 8 MP3 CD-R's and only 2 worked in the Clarion DB336MP car stereo I have but they did work in the stock stereo in a Scion. The car stereo is mostly to blame, but higher quality CD-R's can compensate for crappy equipment.

  • Inconsistent
    By A2RAIW97ZUMQDY on 2006-11-30
I have a pack of 50 the first few cds burned with no problem. I've tried about 10 since then and none have burned thus far...
