Legend of Zelda The Wind Wakerx$48.94
    (11 reviews)
Best Price: $48.94
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker returns you to the world of Hyrule as you travel the waves to tame the winds! Brilliant combat, fantastic facial expressions and beautiful oceans will immerse you in the land of Hyrule as you face Gannon! The Legend of Zelda series practically defined adventure gaming for an entire generation. Link, the hero of the adventure games, delighted millions by starring in games for each Nintendo console from the NES and Super NES to the Nintendo 64. Link brings this beloved franchise to the Nintendo GameCube in The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and he's more animated than ever. The first thing you'll notice about The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker is that it looks completely different from any previous title in the franchise. Nintendo has opted to use cel-shading technology on Wind Waker; the result is that the game looks like a cartoon. Die-hard Zelda purists initially howled at this change, arguing that the game skews too young. I think it's fantastic. The cartoon animation style allows for better expression of the characters, and several of the animations--like Link trying to pick up an object that's too heavy--are so cute that you can't help but laugh a little. The second thing you’ll notice is a focus on wind. Instead of trotting around on foot, Link travels from island to island on a talking boat, but he doesn't get far without the wind blowing in right direction. Luckily, you'll learn how to change the direction of the wind early in the game, and you'll do so frequently--not only to power your boat but also to solve puzzles. Clever use of wind makes Wind Waker stand out from more conventional adventure games. The third thing you’ll notice is that the game is just plain fun. Puzzles are innovative and refreshing, and despite some tricky puzzles, I never felt too frustrated to keep playing. The locales you'll visit are invariably exotic and fun to explore, and the host of bizarre creatures you'll encounter (friendly and otherwise) are always a kick in the pants. Moreover, though the look is radically different, Wind Waker feels like a classic Zelda game. Veterans of the early games in the franchise will experience more than a bit of nostalgia while playing it. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker is everything you've come to expect from a Zelda game, and it's one of the best adventure games to date. This is a must-have title for any GameCube owner. --Jon "Safety Monkey" Grover Pros: - New cel-shaded animation looks great
- Puzzles and characters are a lot of fun
- There's a special place in the heart of any gamer who's ever owned a Nintendo console, and that place is shaped like a Triforce
Cons: - Some Zelda purists may be turned off by the cartoon look

The best form of entertainment, hands down By A2ES7IT00AP3F1 on 2003-01-04
(NOTE: I imported and currently own the Japanese version of the game and have played through it).Words fail me to describe just how wonderful this game is. As a continuation of Nintendo's most polished series, you know without even the slightest bit of doubt that they've done the visuals and audio right; the graphics really have to be seen in action to be appreciated. It's like controlling your own little cartoon world. The facial expressions and the way the characters can interact with the environment is superb. The soundtrack is phenomenal as well, with plenty of new music and a return of some classic tunes (including the one we all know from the original Zelda). Graphics and sound are important, but they alone don't make a game fun; what really sets this game apart from anything else I've ever played is the gameplay. From the intro to the last battle, every moment of Wind Waker shines of quality. The overworld is bigger than you can imagine, and each creatively designed dungeon gets progressively better and more challenging than the last. The camera is very similar to that found in Super Mario Sunshine- you have full control, and it goes where you tell it to go. Though the game doesn't come out in the US for another 3 months, I guarantee you that it'll be worth the wait. This game is perfect- I can't think of a single thing that I would change. And the fact that I can't read a word of Japanese absolutely blows my mind.
Best Zelda Ever... By A3MT6ZLWUY3W4J on 2002-12-28
I took a whirl at this game last weekend. I must definitely say that is is by far the best Zelda game ever made. The visuals, music, and action that I took up were completely mind-blowing. This is probably the best action/adventure game I've ever played, and I definitely recommend it!

Great By on 2003-01-05
The moment I saw this game, I knew it would be great. You can do so much more with cel animation. Link's facial expressions are the easiest to recognize. Still, not much is known about the game except that Link's sister gets captured by a big bird and it's up to him to save her. Also, I really hope NOA will do the same thing that they doing in Japan, and go with that awesome preorder thing where you get the GCN version of Ocarina of Time and OofT Master Quest, a previously unreleased version that was only available in Japan. Basically, the story is exactly the same but the dungeons are completely redone and items are in different places. If you preorder Windwaker at a participating retailer, you get these games on one disc. The 64 graphics are still used, but they are slightly cleaner. That would really get me to buy it. Like I said, this will be a great game and an instant classic.
Awesome Game! By on 2003-01-06

- MUST get.

I think that this Zelda will be just as good as all the other Zeldas (thats a good thing). Even though the graphics are different, change is a good thing. Also, I hear if u pre-order it, you get a gamecube disc which has 2 versions of Ocarina of Time. The original Ocarina of Time, only for Gamecube instead of N64, and an updated version that was only released in Japan before. The only con with the Windwaker, is that for such a great game, it has a pretty crappy background for a box
- So very curious

Well, I've always loved Zelda in the past, so I'm hopeful that this game will be just as awesome. Yes, the graphics can get me a little teary eyed. Especially since they changed after the beatiful previews at the E3 show. I did hear that the graphics changed so they could actually do more w/ the game. I don't know exactly what it means, but hopefully it's good! Graphics do add a lot to zelda, but there are so many more key elements like the items, story, game play, controls, etc etc... So I'm definetly giving it a try!!
- THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER

Hey, you just have to buy this game, i know that it hasn't even go to the market but this gives you enought time to start saving your money to buy this game, I know that the characters look a little childish but they said the same about the last Zelda so you know that Shigeru Miyamoto is not going to let us down.Start saving because this is a game you can't miss... By the way, I'm sure that this game will come with the Ocarina of time version so its going to be really worth the price.
- Delay, delay, delay......
     By on 2003-01-04
This game has had to many setbacks! It was supposed to come out before christmas, but no, they moved to January! Now I read that it was delayed again! But now its not coming out until March! Me, Im a big Zelda fan, when i heard a new zelda game was coming out, I instantly looked it up. And by far, this is going to be one of the best Zelda games ever created! All in all, i hope i can wait for it to FINALLY be released, but if they delay this game one more time I dont know what Im going to do!
