Fits large computers, but don't expect too much By on 2002-01-22
This bag is roomy enough to fit comfortably even my Dell Inspiron 8100 with 15.1" screen (the dimensions of my laptop are 13.03" wide, 10.8" deep, and 1.75" thick, which is apparently quite large in the laptop universe). However, it's obviously Targus's no-frills model. It's quite slim, which can be good for short jaunts, but also comes with some disadvantages. Most obviously, the padding is skimpy. That applies not only to that around the main compartment but also to that covering the handle (made of really stiff fake leather) and the detachable shoulder strap. "Marginal" would be too generous a description; this case is definitely not made for long trips with heavy interiors, not unless you expect to be shifting the bag from shoulder to shoulder or hand to hand every few moments. Also, there aren't many extra pockets. In fact, there's only one external pocket (the 13" x 9" x 2" one), which opens and closes only by Velcro, and has no sub-pockets. Yes, there are smaller subdivided pockets inside the main compartment where your computer will live, and this compartment nicely opens with dual sturdy zippers along three of four sides. But these smaller subdivided pockets face directly onto your precious laptop itself, without any padding other than the thin film of nylon that holds your extra goodies in place. Personally I would never use those pockets for anything firm and bumpy, even pens, for fear of cracking my laptop's case. That makes those pockets basically unusable unless for soft things like papers, which would fit better in the outer pocket anyway. There's also a gimmicky removable divider in the main compartment just in case your notebook is so small that you can fit your AC adapter right beside it in the main compartment, in which case you can use the padded divider (detachable by Velcro, of course) to create separate living spaces for those two items. There's also a Velcro strap in the main compartment to restrain your laptop in its living space. Basically, this case is adequate, for low expectations. But high expectations would include being comfortable carrying the case and bringing lots of additional items, for example if you want this to be your only carry-on piece of luggage. The only way you'd fit your hardback Harry Potter in this bag is if you left your computer at home.
Old Picture By A2HURLIZ4KNMQ6 on 2005-08-22
Anyone that is holding off buying this because you think you are going to get whats pictured, dont let that stop you. They just have an old picture. I bought this and it is the new version of the OCN1 case. Look on the targus website and you will see what it looks like. The new one is much nice and have places for cds instead of flopyp disks. Hope this helps someone.
Portable Office By A2ZSC81MXLBELX on 2005-09-14
After reading the earliest review of this "Targus Notepac-Notebook Case", I reentered my search for it by using the bar code(092636920104). I wanted to make sure we are talking about the same case, and we are. As the most recent reviewer has stated, this must be a newer and updated, and improved version of the case.
I just bought this recently and I love it. It holds all portable and mobile equipment safely and snugley. I have a 14" screen on my lap top, and I know it is well protected by the nice cushioned padding around the inside section. One of the side pads is velcro adjustable. It forms a compartment where the adujustable shoulder strap sits, but once the strap is removed and used on the case, you can move the padding over(or remove it completely, as the case is cushioned all around) to accomadate a little larger screen(up to 15.4"). Two way zippers keep the case closed nicely.
A ton a storage space. The inside of the top cover has a document sleeve, three scratch resistant Disc sleeves, a pocket shaped for media and mobile gadgets, and another pocket that will hold at least 2 encased CDs. Both pockest fastened with velcro. Good use is made of the outer areas as well. Both sides have plenty of roomy storage areas. A large pocket on one side, has a velcro closing flap and inside of the pocket are compartments for a cell phone, pens, business cards, and a key holder. This section also has room for papers, you may need to get to without opening up the whole case. The other side also is nice and roomy for books(not too thick) and files, and also closes with velcro. I like to keep all my loose papers in here.
The material is sturdy, the case is reinforced at stress points and seems strong. I didn't find the handle to be too hard(maybe this is one of the improvements as well), it has two non skid "feet" on the bottom, which will also protect the case. It's nice looking in black and, has everything you could want for a good portable office. A great buy and highly recommended for those on the go!
Thanks ... Gotta go....Laurie
Perfect case for ultraportables By A2WQ7V53ICWZV5 on 2002-03-02
This is the perfect case for the 3.5lb subnotebooks, it has an extremely durable ballistic nylon exterior that holds up to abrasion, unlike the faux leather/vinyl that readily tears, especially where the strap attaches and rubs against it. Where the vinyl case rapidly looks ragged and beaten up, this case still looks pristine and new. The compartment is sized for the smaller notebooks, which is its intended purpose- it's not supposed to be an overnight bag; if that's what you need, a different model would be in order. The velcro on the outer flap is a noisy on opening, but it does hold well- It has a decent amount of compartments, with an outer flap to hold the accessories such as ac adapter, mouse etc. Another compartment on the back is great for quick storage of papers and folders. The hardware and carrying strap is very well made and will hold up to daily use with no problems. Highly recommended for subnotebook users; very sharp looking case that affords good protection and durability.
Well Made By A2HQDO9D58QR1A on 2006-01-04
This product is great for travelling. Looks and acts fairly durable, but dont bang it around too much, because it only has a little padding. Case is very light and feels like you are only carrying the notebook around.
As I said the case will prevent against dents, but is not meant for cushioning the notebook against tosses or drops
Has many pockets and places to keep accessories. AND VERY VERY LIGHT. Perfect for on the go
- I think you will be happy with it.

I bought this when i bought my widescreen 14 inch notebook, and althugh the computer stretches out the internal "square" for the computer, it would work even better on non widescreen formats. If you have a 14-15.4 inch screen, this bag will hug it very nicely. Plenty of aux pockets for almost anything, inlcuding cd sleeves with a material that doesnt get them scratched up too easily a plus for me. It splits the main compartment into the computer and the side wall which is adjustable depending on the size of your notebook. Otherwise put all your power cables and mouses with ease. velco strap holds the computer in place well, and documents and folders have many places to go also. I noticed the reinforcments on some key joints, which eased my worries about it breaking on me. Its not expensive, so dont expect it to, but it doesnt look shabby either. No one will notice tis a 30 dollar bag thats for sure. It has all the qualities and features of one that is much more, backed by a targus warranty.
If your looking for a bag that can be used as much or as little as you need it, and at a great price, not to mention an established company brand, this is a good choice.

Delivery was much faster than I expected and the case is exactly what I needed.
- Great travel aid!

My ONLY complaint about this nifty little notebook case is that the clothing department's strap fasteners aren't very strong and occasionally give way so when I open it up, my socks go flying. Other than that, though, this case is awesome. The side-entry to the computer compartment is the most convenient out of any computer case I've ever seen, and there's plenty of room for cables and peripherals, as well as a change of socks & undies, just in case my checked luggage gets lost. The wheels and handle are well-built and tough, and the rollers run smoothly. It looks sharp and clean, and was a lifesaver when I went overseas on business!
- Beautiful, but bigger than the picture show!

This is a good bag if you want to use it as a medium carry on sized bag.
