Sony offers the MDR-E828LP Fontopia Ear-Bud Stereo Headphones. Fontopia in-the-ear design fits snugly, yet comfortably inside the ear so you can enjoy music while exercising, skating or dancing. Sony Acoustic Twin Turbo Circuitry uses sound chamber and ducts for improved efficiency, gets high sonic output from your portable stereo. Silent Cap prevents sound leakage, makes your music less likely to disturb your neighbors. Neodymium magnet allows for maximum energy in minimum size. Neodymium is far more powerful than conventional Samarium Cobalt or Aluminum magnets. Compact case neatly stores the ear-buds and headphone cord when not in use and is ideal for carrying in a pocket or purse.

These super-light, ear-bud headphones weigh a mere six grams (.18 ounces.) They are the perfect headphone for those who relish lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts.

The MDR-E828LP's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The headphones use sixteen millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. The PET diaphragm gives the headphones a high rigidity for minimum distortion. Finally, Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizing sound chamber and duct technology. The oxygen-free litz cord transfers sound efficiently. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement. The housing is a modern, hi-tech, black and silver metallic finish.

  • These are the best!!

    By A3F3B6HY9RJI04 on 2004-08-18
I've used many headphones as I am addicted to my MP3 player. But none of them even come close to the sound clarity and comfort of these Sony Ear-Buds. And the best part is, for under $10 it really is a steal!!!

I use these to do nearly everything from yard work to biking to running and I have no problems keeping them in my ears. I do knock them out on occasion, but that is always my fault and not the ear-buds.

If you are getting ear-buds, get these. There is nothing else out there that compares to these and it is going for an unbeatable price.

  • You can't go wrong with these.....

    By A1E8IAF911ZSSL on 2004-11-21
I owned these for a few years, and I found the sound quality to be excellent... they were very comfortable, and you will notice the difference in sound quality when compared with the standard earphones supplied with most portable CD players. If you know certain songs very well, you will especially notice the difference --- you will actually HEAR the bass guitar when listening to rock bands for instance! I found myself listening to all my favourite songs all over again with renewed interest!

My dog recently chomped on one of these, afterwards it sounded like plastic film rattling inside them, so I ended up replacing these with Sony MDR-ED31LP (supposed to be the next model up), and they are hopeless in comparison (those earphones don't fit in your ear as well as the rubber inserts crumple when you insert them). I should have got these Sony MDR-E828LP earphones again. :-(

  • Sennheiser MX400 vs. Sony MDR-E828LP

    By AI1BZJF08C4MI on 2005-03-13
Comfort: The Sennheiser MX400 earbuds are perfectly circular in shape thus seemingly fitting better inside your ear. While the Sony MDR-E828 are also circular but slightly tapered which initially fits inside your ear, but after extensive listening they cause your ear to ache due to the tapered edge. Thus the Sennheiser MX400 wins in comfort for long-term listening.

Sound Quality: The Sennheiser MX400 has a neutral refined sound with fair bass response and smooth treble. The Sony MDR-E828 has a brighter sound with slightly higher bass output and high treble. Generally fans of rock, dance and rap music will prefer the Sony MDR-E828. The Sennheiser MX400 can handle those genres, but not sound as "pumped up" with the Sony MDR-E828. Sound quality is a matter of personal choice, so you decide who wins.

Features: Both offer the same features: same cord length and winding cases.

Overall this is a tough decision, but if I had to declare a winner I would say the Sony MDR-E828 wins as it is almost $5 cheaper than the Sennheiser MX400.

  • Very good for the price, not the best available

    By A2BB4DGBRVGKWW on 2005-06-19
These headphones do reach the high and low ranges with adequate volume, and for the price are very good. They are better than most headphones that are included with portable audio players.

Compared to Sennheiser MX500 headphones, these have louder bass, but not too loud. The volume of all frequencies is just about right. The MX500's main drawback is quieter bass, which can usually be fixed with a slight adjustment to the EQ if your audio device has one.

The Sony MDR-E818LP do, again, have better overall sound quality at all ranges than headphones that were free with your equipment (or cheap headphones for the same price), but the first thing I notice when using these and comparing them to the MX500 is a difference in sound quality between low and high frequencies. Starting fairly close to midrange and going up, the Sony's have an obvious difference in sound. They are still better than any free headphones I have used.

I prefer the Sennheiser MX500 because I would rather have more even and better clarity accross the board (I find it easier to adjust to lower bass volume than varied sound quality). They are only a few dollars more. However, if you just bought some audio device and the headphones are not good (a near certainty), these will sound fabulous in comparison. If you are very picky about sound quality and generally use more expensive headphones, you might still be pleased with what these headphones will do for the price and want to use them when you want to avoid risk to your more good headphones.

It should be noted that the Sennheiser MX500's are not the best available either, only very good compred to most others, so I am not saying they are an absolute better choice. Take your pick based on the differences, they are both well above the POS free headphones you are wanting to replace.

It should also be noted that some reviews of the Sennheisers say similar things about the high end of THOSE headphones, but those reviews must be comparing the MX500 to even more expensive headphones. The Sennheisers are definitely very good for their own price.

  • Great sound, and A STEAL!!!

    By A3912X9I2APH9J on 2006-09-29
I bought these to use with my Samsung Z5 mp3 player. While the packaged earbuds were good, the sound was just drowning in bass. I like good bass, but not when it completely overpowers everything else. I had given the Sony 51's a try and promptly returned them; they sounded ok, but kind of made my ears hurt, and for $40, they weren't worth it. I had read some reviews on these 828's, so I decided to go with these. The sound is incredible. The bass is well defined, but is balanced nicely with the midrange and treble. I was literally hearing nuances in the music that I didn't with other buds. They fit very well (though any earbuds will start to feel uncomfortable after a period of extended use, which is discouraged anyway). A set of black foam earbud pads is included. I always prefer to use the pads, but it is of course your own call whether or not you use them. The pads will wear out, but you can buy exact replacements at Radio Shack (pack of 4 for $4) that fit perfectly. Personally, I usually end up replacing the pads every few months or so.

My only gripe about the 828's (and the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that the cord is too short for my taste. About another foot or so would be nice. Otherwise, this is a great product and at around $10 is a STEAL.

  • Uncomfortable
    By A2JJUEL6JVMXGA on 2006-11-30
The sound quality is very good. However, my ears would inevitably ache after about 30 minutes of wear. The earbuds are hard plastic (albeit with a thin foam cover), which means my ear must yield to the earbud and not the other way around. These might be a great buy for someone with average to large ear apertures, but probably not for someone with smaller ears. I recommend the "marshmallow"-style ear buds (such as Sony MDR-EX71SLA), with the silicone gasket that conforms to the ear. They're more expensive, but they're comfortable for hours even in my tiny ears.

  • SHOCKINGLY bad
    By A12MI3490YZDEW on 2006-03-30
Bought these earphones today and already hate them. Every 10 seconds or so the earpieces give me tiny little electric shocks to my ears. Not necessarily painful, but very uncomfortable and *NOT* what you want in a pair of headphones. I was surprised to see another reviewer had the same experience with this product.

Note: I've used many other sets of headphones with my iPod and never had this problem. I'm taking these back to the shop tomorrow.

  • Pleasant Suprise for under $10
    By AAXW5IUQEVWWR on 2004-11-14
I read several reviews of these headphones here at Amazon about a month ago and decided that I give them a chance when my current headphones broke. My sub-par Koss clip-ons died on me last Friday after 4-months and the standard pair that came with my Rio Cali had broken weeks after purchase, so I decided to purchase a pair.

I bought them at my local Sears for $10 rather than order them from Amazon because I needed them ASAP. These headphones more than exceed my expectations. My previous experiences with bud-style headphones have been pretty bad. These however, had excellent sound quality, above-average bass, and fit into my ears quite nicely. I don't have any problem with the length of the cord and I tend to keep my MP3 player clipped to my waist while I listen to it.

The winding case is very easy to use and is a nice edition as it prevents my headphones from getting tangled in my backpack or purse when not in use. Also included are removable pads that fit over the tips of the headphones themselves for a better fit.

All in all, I'd recommend these headphones even if you're not normally a fan of bud-style headphones. Their excellent sound quality and low price are sure to please.

  • good sound/cheap
    By A2XRPE15CRVB76 on 2005-01-13
These headphones, like most headphones, sound great compared to speakers at a similar price.

However, for something this cheap I've always liked Sony ear-buds because of the case -- most headphones are awkward and delicate for traveling. This winding case was great until mine stopped winding after four months.

  • The Best Earbuds I Have Ever Used
    By A163ZOLS97MJWQ on 2005-04-17
The bass is clear and strong. The treble is crisp and does not break up or pop. Great for techno, rock, and alternative music. I compared these to the Apple iPod M9394G/A Earbud Headphones that my friend owned. The Apples couldn't hold a candle to the Sony buds and on top of that the Sonys are thirty dollars cheaper. The sony spin case is also convenient. If you have small ear canals these may be a little too large, but otherwise I would highly recomend them.

  • Always on top.
    By A31Y316PIE6PKC on 2005-10-24
I've had these headphones for at least a year, and no matter how many earbud headphones I compare against them, they never come close to matching the sound quality. Not even apple comes close.

The bass and treble come through exceptionally well. It probably has to do with the magnet they have in there. The combination of price and technology is unmatched in the earbud category and the case is very useful for keeping them from getting damaged.

The only gripe I have with these, and many other headphones is the right angle jack that plugs into the device you'll be using them with. Only some of the in-ear types have straight jacks (say, for ipods, or remotes) and the rest don't. That's unfortunate really. They should all be straight and have a tiny adapter included to cover people with preferences.

All in all, these headphones are incredible. I love them day in and day out. What else can I say...they're Sony.

  • Excellent sound quality
    By A2JRDFIGWTX50J on 2005-12-01
I can't believe this headphones cost only 6$. Amazing sound clarify you won't believe. Excellent and faithful bass and crisp treble. Ultra-light, just six grams; you won't feel as if you are wearing them.

Only negative point: The case that comes along to wind up the extra cord length is a waste. The cord is so small that you have no need to wind it. I just trashed the case.

  • poor sound, electrical shocks
    By A3HFLD003MMGE5 on 2006-03-17
I had the same problem a previous reviewer had -- I kept receiving little electrical shocks in my ears from the earphones! plus, the foam pads kept falling off and the earbuds were too large to securely stay in my ears during my commute. more importantly, the sound is not great. I'm no audiophile but it was impossible for me to find the right EQ setting on my ipod when using these headphones. anytime I found a setting with a moderate amount of bass, the treble would be so piercing that my ears would hurt. this is the third pair of headphones I've used with my ipod and the first time I've had any of these particular problems. they are going back if amazon will let me return them ...

  • VERY Cost effective!
    By A2KBXE3U1BQF6Y on 2006-03-27
For the $7-$12 these cost, they are most definitely worth the buy!
When I first got these, I listened to them only in the car and found the bass unsatisfying even with the lower-end bass on my MP3 player cranked up. One day while sitting, I popped them in and WHOA! The bass was overwhelming and I had to actually turn it down a bit! My conclusion is that the open-air-ness of these reduces the bass sometimes.
They are very very lightweight and I'd highly recommend these for travel, but not as a replacement to a stereophone.
The winding case is extremely useful, but I wish there was a small clip going up the cord to shorten/lengthen the line, as in some other earbud headphones.
Once again, very very good buy for the sooo cheap price!

  • I hate these
    By A2UZIBPAGY3K79 on 2006-06-17
I bought these about a week ago and am planning to light them on fire [not worth returning--fire is fun].

    1. Sound quality is just terrible. I put in some NIN and the bass guitar was near absent, and absoultely overpowered treble.

    2. They won't stay in my ears at all.

    3. The cord is made of some sort of different material. It looks/feels cheap and I dont think it will last.

I'm lighting this on fire and buying a different pair of earbuds.

  • Great Headphones, here's why...
    By on 2004-06-01
To start off the price of these is a GREAT deal to compare with the sound that you're going to get. The first thing you will notice is the sleek style of the silver and black which is a plus. (oh, ear size makes no difference, they fit fine in both) Now, once you put them on the first you notice is extremely clear cut sounds, a POWERFUL bass and great volume. I actually use it with my CD player and keep it on lvl 2/10 because of the great sound quality. Now the case, the only thing the picture may mislead you about is that both the earphones and the jack are placed inside the case, the picture of course is for advertisment, but just to make it clear. The case is pocket size and has a place where to place your finger to wind it up. You will be extremely happy with these and should be them once the new stock arrives online. Want it faster? Go to the store. You will love the compact and great quality for such a low price. ( I'm listening to them while typing this)

  • Good Sound, Failed Later
    By A13MSJER9OA4XA on 2004-12-10
I was on my second pair of these when I became greatly disapointed. I absoluty love Sony but I have to give these 3 stars. GREAT sound, but after 2 weeks, the left ear bud lost all bass and became extremly tin sounding. Basicly if you get one speck of dust in the these things your done. I would suggest a pair of behind the ear headphones, sony of corse, Dont get my wrong sony is the best electronics out there next to bose, but these are just too delicate for headphones

  • Considering the price, these are fantastic!
    By A2NUB79M941RA1 on 2004-09-07
When my good headphones got broken, I needed a quick and cheap fix until I could afford some more high quality ones. I'm not a fan of ear buds, but after reading reviews here I decided to pick a pair of these up. I am not disappointed.

Despite their size and price tag, these ear buds pack quite a punch. I was downright amazed by the sound quality, which is simply incredible. For under ten dollars, you can't get better sound. Also, the winding case is a very nice touch. I can keep my headphones from getting tangled, and it only takes about five seconds to get them back in the case.

My only real gripes are that the cord is only a meter, far too short if you want to have any freedom of movement when listening. Also, they pop out of your ears too easily, especially because they're short. However, such a problem is minor considering the price and quality of these ear buds.

  • Handy, good quality... can't beat it for the price
    By A3SRP44U1V9667 on 2005-01-31
I've never had good experiences with earbud phones - they're uncomfortable and the sound quality is usually middling at best. Their only saving grace is convenience, but then there's always the hassle of untangling the cord when you are ready to use them. I originally bought my Fontopias strictly as cheap and convenient "travel phones" for my iPaq Pocket PC and Rio mp3 player when on the road - I just wanted something that wouldn't get snarled in my pocket. However, after a week of use I'm already a huge fan and they've become my everyday headphones of choice. Lightweight and simple as any other earbuds, the fidelity they deliver is really remarkable. Doesn't measure up to full headphones, of course, but they're far and away the best earbuds I've ever used. With a little adjustment to find the best angle, I've worn them for hours with no discomfort. The case is very cleverly designed and extremely easy to use, though a little flimsy - I'm just waiting to see what happens when I inevitably sit on it by accident. And you certainly can't beat the price. Very strongly recommended.

  • Cheap and Fabulous
    By A2PGO1LCZPOZ6U on 2005-05-09
...And they were less than 10 dollars.

I have purchased many earphones, but to a lot of disappointment, since I knew that every time I would get them, I would have to compromise sound quality for size and ease of use. However, having 10 dollars in my pocket and my eye on these Sony MDR-E828LP's, I tried the earbud experience for one last time.

Fortunately, my "last" experience was phenomenal and much better than expected. The 9mm Nd magnets and circuitry made these sound somewhat comparable to my Studio Series headphones (which much difference, of course). The cord length is perfectly suited for these types of headphones, but the design is slightly flawed, depending on whom buys the headphones.

The sound quality is definitely better than any other earbud that I have tried, however I am sure that it cannot be compared to the quality of Shures or Sennheisers, as those are the de facto companies for professional sound. The bass is somewhat lacking, however the mid and high frequencies are definitely clear and crisp. However, that is only with the foam earpieces on. Operating them without the cushions makes a world of difference, since it completely diminishes the low frequency and alterting the mid and high frequencies noticably.

The question of design is concering comfort, as good sound also compromises the comfortability level of these earphones. Wearing these headphones for an hour or so is comfortable; it is after that hour of listening that the pain begins. After two hours or so of listening, one begins to feel as if your ears have been cut on the inside, especially without the foam covers. However, the reason why I say that it is dependent on WHOM buys the product is because the construction inside of my ear is small, and that could have affected the comfort of these earphones.

All aspects considered, the E828LP is a very smart and cost-effective buy for somewhat premium sound. Of course, nothing short of high-quality is expected of a Sony product.

  • Not too bad
    By AJDNEH1ISHTGY on 2005-06-01
It is a pretty good headphone for <10$.

However, as a 6'4" person, the cord is a tad too short if I have my Ipod in my left pocket. If you are taller than that, it will almost certainly be too short, and I would not recommend you to buy this unless you have an extension cord or a remote.

  • excellent sound, but necklace cable should make it better
    By A149RNR5RH19YY on 2005-12-08
I have this (E828), E737 (only available in Middle East), and PSP earphones
these 3 employ SAME speaker (and same sound, too)
sounds is amazing, even beats my top-of-the-line earphone E888 (have clearer treble, bass is barely same)
ONLY minus of this model, it uses Y-style cable, I think necklace should be better (the cable rests behind your neck when not wearing)
also, grey-silver color makes it cheap feeling, I'd prefer it's PYSC style (avail with multi-color)
besides the cable style and color, it's a great earphones

  • Surprisingly good for little $$$
    By A5ILRLDUX9K9N on 2005-12-27
I have tried $50 earbuds to $6 earbuds from different companies and I have not found the mix I want except for these. The sound quality is exceptionally clear and vivid, with no noticable loss of bass or too much high-end sounds. I have everything from Nelly to Eminem to Van Halen to Mercy Me, and everything sounds excellent (especially Hoobastank's "Reason").

The only 2 reasons it got only 4 stars - It comes with no earpad replacements, which as they get old tend to come off in my ears when I pull the buds out, and they don't stay in my ears when I run. I would have to wear a headband, which is cool for the winter, but pretty messed up during the summer.

  • Beware! A pair of dangerous earbuds !
    By A340U47HEUXVSC on 2006-02-06
I know it might sound a little weird, but I just have to state my experience and opinon about this pair of earbuds. A very strange thing happened after three days of use. The left earbud kept electrically shocking me from time to time, though not very serious, it really annoyed me. I am not sure how this weird thing happened, but it might be due to the earphones' inability to handle the power of my mp3 player, so it sort of burned itself from the inside. Never had I expericed this kind of problem before with any type of earphones, cause I always maintain the volume at medium level and it is almost impossible for my mp3 player to create such an immense power that earphones cannot even handle. It is just probably SONY earphones' poor quality that has caused the problem and annoyance. Really can't count on cheap earphones like these.

  • A sound investment
    By A6WKH9MET95FV on 2006-02-26
After investing over $40 on the in-ear headphones i've thankfully returned to use the earbud that sony launched years earlier.

-The treble, mid, and bass ear equally balanced compared to other ones including apple's standard ipod headphones. Much sharper and clearer than the in-ears.
-The sharper and clearer sound creates a much more surround experience in lounge, soundtracks, scores and acoustic music.
-Strings and brass instruments are infinitely clear.
-Light bass and percussion instruments are satisfactory, if not, clear as the drummers from the movie Drumline.
-Any high quality recording/bitrate music will define the vocals and instruments seperately. This makes it more superior than the in-ear headphones (in-ears are overwhelmed by the bass and few high frequencies; it losses the atmosphere from the earbuds by blending most of the sound together like over the ear headphones).

    -A few negatives though

-High bass music (rock, hip-hop, RnB, club, etc.) may lose bass quality and rattle headphone components(depends on music). Bass is only a little bit lacking on power, but sufficient for overall listening.

-Extremely high volume will literally rattle the components within the earbud. Over a couple years the earbuds will lose their durability within its headphone components, and some sounds will rattle. This can be cured by easily replacing it for less than $15.

Any lack in quality is mostly the result of low bitrate(for mp3s and other compressed music files), low recording quality (on the recording studio end), and/or synthesizers.

For the sake of sheer quality and expendibility, this earbud headphone from Sony has no contest.

  • Best Of The Buds
    By A2XPDQ3CMATK67 on 2006-05-16
Ever since I got my first Walkman as a teen, I've used various incarnations of Sony's $30-range 30mm driver headphones. Even back then they had a well-balanced EQ and decent bass response, combining solid performance with near-disposable convenience and price. I was getting tired of the line in my hair from the regular headphones, and the ear-pinch syndrome of the "Street Style" sets, so I decided to try earbuds. These Sonys had the best specs, so I gave them a shot.

If only they'd made these ages ago! Sony has somehow found a way to get 30mm performance from drivers almost half that size, and a quarter of the price. I had no idea earbuds, or anything for $7 for that matter, could sound so balanced and actually produce adequate bass.

Granted, they're not studio monitors. The soundstage is still 30mm-limited, and they're a little high-midrange-y at high volume levels. But they respond beautifully to an EQ. Just when you think you're squeezing the most out of the little 828s, they willingly pump out a few extra notches of low end with a bass boost. For their size, the full sound is very impressive.

Design-wise, convenience is the king with the 828s. The foam-ended earbud rests comfortably between your earflap and the bump over your ear canal (between your antihelix and tragus, for you trivia/anatomy folk), and isn't noticeable after a few moments. Falling asleep with them in is very easy (voice of experience), but they still fit snugly enough to allow a full range of movement, from walking to headbanging. Since they don't actually go into the ear canal and have a very tiny profile, they're very open/transparent. At modest volume levels, you're treated to the interesting experience of hearing your music balanced and clear, while still hearing everything around you at full volume.

There's still room for improvement; the foam covers are difficult to get on the earbuds, and they come off easily if the bud gets caught on anything. And the wind case seems a little redundant, it'd be nice to see Sony offer these buds without the case, just to see how low the price could go.

All in all, the 828s are $30 worth of sound for only seven bucks, with ease of use and openness that headphones will never match. Replace the cheap junk that came with your portable with these five-star winners from Sony.

  • Great sound at a great price
    By A1ZMYDO7GYLQ46 on 2006-05-23
I am now on my second set of MRD-E828LP earbud headphones, after temporarily misplacing my original ones. (After buying the second set I found the originals - so now I own two sets!)

The shape of the earbud is right for me - they sit well in my ears and don't cause pain or discomfort unless I'm lying down with them in or have used them for a long time.

In terms of the features, I can present a direct comparison between the MDR-E828LP and the Sennheiser MX-400, having bought the Sennheisers to see if they lived up to the hype. (I since gave the Sennheisers away...) While the Sennheisers feel way lighter in the ear, they're also a lot less bass-y. Not to say that they're bad quality - they've got a clearer, more airy sound than the Sonys - but they don't suit my typical listening genres of jazz, classical, house and lounge, and some pop/rock. I like to hear all the way down to the bottom of the bass/kick/cello, and the Sony earbud design helps the buds to have great bass response without needing to switch on bass boost on my player.

And they look good too - understated, unobtrusive, not the "I've-got-an-iPod" white kitsch which has been forced upon consumers of late.

I bought my original set of these headphones a number of years ago (Sony have been making these headphones with the exact same specs for a while now) and they still sound excellent. After wearing my new set in for a while, I can't pick any sonic difference between the two. The only modification Sony seems to have made in the intervening time is to the cord. It used to be a standard black insulated headphone cord, but now they've changed to a more rubbery cord. It still winds up nicely but it's somewhat springy, so it straightens out really easily and doesn't get tangled as much.

All in all I find that they are an excellent purchase, and at their consistently low price they remain the best price-for-performance earbuds on the market before investing in higher-end in-ear designs like the Shure E3 or E4.

  • Beats the Sennheiser mx500
    By A1590KJR2FEHI7 on 2006-05-29
I bought the Sennheiser mx500 earbuds after reading that they were one the best earbuds. But these $10 Sony's have much better bass and sound especially good with the Ipod Nano bass boost. Like one of the other reviewers said, these are quite immersive for earbuds and have a soundstage that sounds more precise than the mx500's. The Sennheisers have a more extended high treble but that can often sound tinny in earbuds.

  • Cant beat it for the price.
    By A3N9ENL4POPJ79 on 2006-06-05
Best pair of earbuds i've ever had, and also the only pair of headphones I ever paid less than 10 bucks for. Blows the stock sony PSP/Ipod ones out of the water. I dont remember them giveing out and getting trashed, but im not sure if I still have them around. I think they might be on that "borrowed, never to be returned" status.

  • Good quality for the price

Unfortunately, these earbuds didn't even last me a year until I began losing hearing in the left side. They were very uncomfortable in my ear with the optional cushion pads on. Once I removed them, they fit nicely. They still became uncomfortable if worn for an extended period though, but I have found that to be true with almost any earbud. This is especially true for us with small ears. I couldn't complain about the sound quality either. These exceeded my expectations for earbuds under $10.

Overall, these are good quality earbuds for the price.
