  • LOVE THOSE HAIRDOS

    By A3LZGLA88K0LA0 on 2005-06-20
THE WRAITH is one of those films that definitely cannot deny its 80s heritage. With a soundtrack laden with 80s greats like Bonnie Tyler, Ozzie Osbourne and Robert Palmer among others, the movie is a homage to those delightfully corny times. And the hairdos...Clint Howard's pompadour, Nick Cassavettes "bad guy" look; the punk look of Skank, and of course Charlie Sheen's nice guy fluff. Not to mention the divine Sherilyn Fenn in her pre-Twin Peaks day. The movie opens with something coming from outer space that morphs into a hot car and a costumed driver. We learn that a gang of punks (led by the irrepressibly vile Nick Cassavettes) have murdered a young man who was messing around with Nick's honey (Fenn). Soon the guys are picked off one by one by the mysterious driver in the souped up car and Sheriff Randy Quaid sets out to find out who this mysterious stranger is. Viewers will figure it out pretty quickly, but THE WRAITH is an entertaining movie, with little unpredictable twists, but the sense of poetic justice is satisfied and that 80s soundtrack is pretty exciting.

  • A movie that I never get tired of watching

    By A35WO5QI5AGCXS on 2000-04-29
The electrafying story of a man who was murdered, who comes back to life with a different face and a car with a futuristic design and a Unstoppable Car and a Real Rock and Roll Soundtrack that goes along with the movie. Stars then unknown, are now quite well known. This movie was well written, the special effects are great. I wish I could obtain the soundtrack as it has 'one cool bunch of tunes'.I myself have watched this movie in excess of of 250 times, I never tire of this movie that has the best qualities, I hope to get it in a D.V.D. Directors Cut, as I will be the first in line to buy it, and was made with Dolby Surround, Sci-Fi and Horror fans alike will be taken by this movie. If it is your 1st time or your 50th time, Buy it take my word that you will not be let down.

  • Still A Good View

    By A1SCD2NYTIAQTY on 2007-07-29
I once watched this 5 times in one day. I was young and stupid....not to mention really bored at the time. Luckily, it was a pretty good movie, so it was not such a chore to get through.

The plot is basic: new kid moves to town, and gets interested in a local girl, Keri. The local hot rod gang leader also has an interest in her and decides to protect those interests. Jake, the new guy, finds himself on the other side of death with a new machine and serious axe to grind. The revenge starts with challenges to races, and as the gang dwindles, so the panic increases.

By today's standards, the effects are on the cheesy side, though that does not entirely detract from the movie's charms. The acting is pretty much what you would expect from a fairly low budget movie, though it is certainly not the worst about. Sheen makes a good impression with his portrayal of the Wraith/Jake, with his "boyish charm".

It is a cult classic, and that is what "The Wraith" will probably always be. It appeals to a particular taste, but if you are into unusual films, this could be worth a look. I still enjoy it, a decade and more later. Still a great film to kick back and zone out with.

  • The Wraith

    By A31NYH0GFMACJD on 2000-05-16
Well, people only see this movie for one thing. The Turbo Interceptor... so here is a litle rundown on it. The Dodge Turbo Interceptor pace car was built by Chrysler and PPG Industries for roughly $1.5 million. There were six copies of the car that were built for the movie. The car had rear-wheel-drive, and was powered by a 2.2L Cosworth twin-turbo in-line four with dual overhead cams, intercoolers and was rated at a rumored 450HP. So now that you know that, dont you want one of the six?

  • 1987 Dodge Daytona Concept car

    By on 1999-11-26
I loved this movie I watched it with my son when he was 10 he told me what the car was before i knew. He could tell by the little Chrysler Pentstar on the front end, and the "Daytona" Logo on the back of the car after he gave it to his brother.

  • The Wraith's Wrath
    By A188JPR29WXEXU on 2003-05-21
This is an excellent movie. I just recently saw this on cable and it reminded me of the fact.Charlie Sheen really is an excellent actor and the female lead in this, Sherilyn Fenn is a pretty, talented and appealing actress.I can't say good enough things about Sheen and Fenn. One thing I didn't like about this film was that you don't see a lot of Sheen in this even though he is the lead actor.
The story is a teenager is murdered by a gang. The gangleader is pretty much a psychopath and him and his gang murdered Jamie, the character who dies and comes back as The Wraith. This was probably motivated by jealousy and a possessiveness of Sherilyn Fenn's character who is not interested in the gangleader at all romantically.
Charlie Sheen's character Jake, previously Jamie in another life, returns to wreak revenge on the gangleader and his gang, who are illegal car racers. The Wraith challenges them with his prototype Interceptor car and one by one the gang end up dead;their cars a wreck. They should each be burned beyond recognition (the only way to identify them through dental records) but strangely enough they are unburnt and their eyes are missing.
The action in this is great, it is one of Sheen's best movies. Standout action scene is where there is a car chase and new cars fall off a semi-trailer onto the road.
The special effects are fabulous where The Wraith disappears. I have seen a lot of special effects in movies and these are one of the most impressive I have ever seen.
Thoroughly recommended for Sheen fans, fans of cars and teenagers.I loved it and I am not a teenager.

  • Burning love
    By A20EEWWSFMZ1PN on 2004-09-22
Jake (Charlie Sheen), the new kid in town has a love interest Keri (Sherilyn Fenn). Evidentially Keri is coveted by local hotrod gang leader Packard Walsh (Nick Cassavetes.) so Packard and his minions dispose of Jake.

Low and behold Jake has returned in the form of a Wraith. We have a hot time watching the revenge using a Christine inspired car and bike. Will he get them all before the law figures out what is happening? What does the girl get out of this? Who are you rooting for Jake or Skank (David Sherrill)?

  • one of my favorite movies of all time
    By A3FNOMJG1MKQYG on 2002-09-07
    The Wraith is awsome!

the movie is about a kid named Jamie Henkins who gets killed by a car gang led by Packard. the rest of the gang includes Oggie, who drives my favorite car, Minty, Clint Howard (forgot his character's name) and my two favorites, Skank and Gutterboy.

a new kid suddenly shows up to town named Jake, who is really Jamie in his new form and comes back to take back his love, Keri Johnson.
from here, the action begins. the car the wraith drives, from what i heard, is a Dodge Turbo Interceptor, custom, and awsome! the best car in the movie.
after racing Oggie and Minty and getting his revenge on them, he then runs head on into their warehouse where they kill the lively duo of Skank and the Gutterboy. these two are hilarous and if for not the cars, then these 2 hooligans will keep you watching this film over and over.

Packard, after denying that Jamie, the wraith has come back for him, Packard is confronted by the wraith in a cemetary where Pack sees his own grave! in one last brilliant race, the Wraith and the Turbo race Pack and his corvette. the ending is brilliant. head on crash, ball of fire, just flat out awsome. this movie is awsome!

movie stars Charlie Sheen, Randy Quaid, Clint Howard, and Sherilyn Fenn. great movie.

  • Bad , but 'Good' Bad.
    By A1JMZB14WOJE84 on 2004-12-24
in fact worse...no seriously this could be THE WORST film ever.

It can't decide if it wants to be a road-movie, a teen romance, a supernatural sci-fi adventure, a slasher/revenge movie...it's all over the place, but that's what makes Wraith so perfect...it's SO bad.

The acting is weedy, the dialogue is unbelievably corny. I was almost in tears laughing at this...

    Even worse than Roadhouse.

  • One of the great undiscovered treasures of the 80's
    By A26GLM9538ID1R on 2005-11-17
I remember seeing The Wraith the night before Thanksgiving, 1987. I was surprisingly impressed. Even though it can be a little cheesy at times, it has enough character to make up for it. The Wraith-mobile was the coolest car that I had seen growing up, except for K.I.T.T. or the General Lee, until 1989's Batmobile. The cast including Randy Quaid, Charlie Sheen, Sherilyn Fenn, and Clint Howard turned in exceptional performances. Charlie Sheen comes back from the grave as a Wraith with a really cool car to avenge his death from a group of road pirates and to get his old girlfriend. Be sure to look for Skank and Gutter-boy. They are a hoot. If like off-the-beat films from any era, especially the 80's, then you have got to get this movie.

  • The Only Adults are Cops
    By A2WM1KL9DQSQ18 on 2006-07-11
This is an often overlooked 80's classic. It is one of those movies made up mostly of the 16-24 year old group, with not an adult in sight. Pretty much the only adults around are the police, who accomplish very little.

The movie is about a wrongfully young man returning to avenge his death. He was wrongfully killed by a local hotrod gang. Now he is back as a wraith, with a supercar as well!

  • A wonderful put storyline and good old American Muscle Cars!
    By on 1999-03-18
The movie was so cool the cast, cars, storyline, plot and music. If you are a car nut like me this is the perfect movie for you. There is cool music from the movie like Ozzy Osborne,Lion,Honeymoon Suite,Billy Idol,Richard Palmer, and Motley Crue. The gang is cool how they take your car if you lose the race against them and then they fix up the cars they win and give it new paint jobs and put cool parts on the car for to stand out. All the cars in the movie rock like a '84 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z,a '77 Trans Am with Mag wheels and with a blower stickin' out of the hood to top it off nice and tall,a '80's Corvette driven by the leader of the gang with a silver paint job and red trim and a Turbo Interceptor in black that looks like a concept car from the future and that is the car that kills the whole gang. It has a good love tale to the movie and a really good revenge against the gang that killed him when he was alive in the past and it has a really good ending at the end of the movie.

  • Is this movie for real?
    By on 2001-04-19
Wow, what a total waste of an hour of my life, but I must say this movie........ so very bad it kinda ruled. For a movie released in the winter of 1986, it grossed 4500 dollars in its first week at the box office in the US, and grossed over 4.5 million in France. This movie made use of such high tech products as, the Digital Radio Blaster, and the flame retardant racing helmets, capable of allowing only your skin to burn yet saving your hair from a fiery death. I love movies that have a supernatural twist, yet I wonder why the spirits chose Chrysler as its provider for the ghostly super car? Also the car is powered by two vibrating lightning laden shoeboxes, strait from Chrysler's special engine division. All in all a mind numbing flick full of homosexual undertones, and great all around dialogue. Have fun with this one folks!

  • So bad it's almost good!
    By on 2002-01-08
Similar to the old B-grade, sci-fi movies of the fifties, this is one of those movies that is so awful in every way that you can watch and (maybe) enjoy because you quickly lose any expectation for it anyway; then your mind just happily goes along with whatever unbelieveable storyline or poor acting comes next. Almost campy. Almost fun.

  • Great 80's Hero/Revenge Story with a tough of love
    By APBTOAFMNZ5ON on 2003-11-18
I was 16 or 17 when I saw this movie and I loved it. If you are looking for a deep, serious, modern, adult, tear-jerking drama, you don't want this. Having said that, this is an otherwise very cool movie! It is one of my favorite movies of the 80's (top 20) and an early masterpiece for Charlie Sheen. Hero ghost comes back and gets revenge, scores points with the girl, and sets up his bro with a hot supernatural car... sounds a little cheesey? Hey, it's a 1986 action movie about a ghost coming back for revenge! But, for it's time it is EXCELLENT! I recommend it. The car is incredible and yes, I want one. To this day (I'm 32 now) I look for photos of it on the web. The Dodge Turbo Interceptor. Anyway, the movie is a good action/revenge movie with a hint of comedy and an awesome soundtrack. "Where's the Fire" by Tim Feehan is fantastic and ahead of it's time!

  • Great 80's Flick!
    By A3RRBPUGD7UOSP on 2005-01-14
When I found this was out on DVD, I had to pick it up. It's a bit dated, but it is still pretty good.

The film involves a gang of car 'thieves' who meet a mysterious black car on the road and try to take it. One by one, the gang members end up dead. Sounds like a pretty good plot to me.

The wraith, a mythical being that drains the life energy from it's victims, is a fitting title, as each time a gang member dies, the car and driver get bolder and bolder.

The car itself is a technological wonder, actually being a Chrysler/PPG pace car that was built using space age composites and the like. It was used in the film, although since then, the original has been sold to a collector and subsequently lost.

This film has one of the best soundtracks from the 80's. It has everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Honeymoon Suite. The film transfer was adequate, and makes this as good a quality as VHS, if not slightly better.

Overall, this is a cool film...

  • Thank the gods the 80's are over....
    By ATWK744FUQXVX on 2005-12-18
The only reason why I gave this movie such a high rating is not because it is one of the great movies that surfaced from out of the eighties, but because it is so bad its good. The only thing I could think of between bouts of laughter is that people must have been doing loads of drugs during the 80's. "The Wraith" is literally a hodge podge of everthing in the 80's that was ludicrous, ridiculous, and totally lame. Just check out the car racing goons with the colored mohawks, pink makeup, belly shirts, and, last but certainly not least of all, the ton of hairspray. Charlie Sheen's fluffy hairstyle is right out of a Cyndi Lauper music video. "The Wraith" is almost like a horrible parody of "The Crow." In any case, this is one film you cannot miss, if not for nostalgic reasons, then just for a laugh.

  • A Car Like The Turbo Interceptor Is Worth Drooling Over
    By AMJPFNUKED92B on 2000-06-29
I don't think the movie was that terrible but I don't think it was that great either. I don't really like the movie all that much and I don't really dislike it either. I would really rather give it a 2.5 star rating. This movie has a revenge theme and a run-of-the-mill romance with a cliche villain attempting to break up the romance.(He is an obsessive "ex boyfriend"(according to him) of the love interest of the good guy in the movie. The villain has the hots for the love interest of the good guy but she is not interested. The good guy, played by Charlie Sheen, is the reincarnation of somebody who was killed by the villian (a lover of the girl he has the hots for). After all that mumbo jumbo it boils down to Charlie drag racing in a mint Turbo Interceptor(A car worth literally drooling over. Its fast and pleasing to the eye) against the best the villain has to offer in vehicles.(They drag race) One by one, Sheen gets his revenge by seeing to it that those present at the time of his murder pay for their transgressions. A car can be one hell of a murder weapon, especially when your already dead to begin with. Don't expect much from this movie and you will be pleased.

  • An awsome movie and even better soundtrack
    By on 1999-08-23
I have never gotten tired of this movie. I have the soundtrack on tape. I have just remastered it on Cd so I will never lose its quality.

  • you're all wrong
    By on 2001-11-16
this movie is not about the car(although it's a really cool car) this movie is about a love so true that even death couldn't stop it. the hero was murdered by the villain and his crew cause the villain wanted the girl for himself. the hero thru the power of his love returns to exact revenge and reclaim his love and teach her to be strong enough to stand up for herself even though she too is scared of packard and it's also about the love of a brother and his last gift to him

  • Soundtrack, where are you?
    By A2W6K1TL4SIZ1Q on 2004-07-12
I've read through the entire customer reviews and no one seems to have any clue as to where to get the movie soundtrack to this perfect 80's movie. My one favorite song in the movie is "Hold On, Blue Eyes" by LaMarca. But I can't get any info on this group. I don't know if the name "LaMarca" is a band or a solo artist. It's very difficult to get the soundtrack, and I don't see why. So what if it's an old 80's movie. Look at Grease. That movie came out like in the late 70's or something. Ugh! And not to mention Saturday Night Fever, which came out like when Jesus was sipping wine and breaking bread with his disciples. Both the soundtracks are still around, never hard to find, and still selling like flies. Can I get a witness? Grease may be more of a popular movie than The Wraith, but still....I'm still an ANGRY customer. IF THERE'S ANY DIE HARD 'WRAITH' FAN WHO KNOWS WHERE AND HOW I CAN GET THE SOUNDTRACK, EMAIL ME: vahnatfranco@hotmail.com.....apps~

p.s...and to amazon.com staff, this may sound silly, but I'm desperate. If you can assist me at all in finding this movie's soundtrack, please inform me.

This desperate reviewer remains thankful and hopes for a positive response....apps~

    By A1CQMC66RX3P3P on 2004-08-17
Finally!! Thank you Mr Franco for letting me know that you are looking for the Soundtrack of "The Wraith" also. I hope you have better luck than I did. From what I've be told the soundtrack is no longer in print and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I, especially, liked "(Hold on) Blue Eyes".Films like these back then were alittle hokey and highschoolish but had great soundtracks. My favorite actorin this movie was Randy Quaid. What a talent. If anyone has ANY idea on how to get the soundtrack to "The Wraith" please, please, please, let me know.

  • The Ghost Rider VS The Bully Gang.
    By A2B215ZBXN382R on 2005-08-02
It was a good movie, but It was way too kissy-kissy for me.If I had my boyfriend,Trent in the room with me,I wouldn't have cared, but he wasn't. I bet Kim Possible would kick those bullies sorry asses right out the window, and those bullies would never bother Kim Possible or Ron Stoppable,or Rufus[Ron's pet naked mole rat] because they know the martial arts. I would've kicked the leader in the nuts, and slapped his face,if I were Keri. It had too many make out scenes for me,and too steamy for a fatass blimp such as myself.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE YEARS AGO WHEN MY SON AND I HAD WATCHED IT ON A MOVIE CHANNEL. IT'S A LITTLE CORNY - BUT I STILL ENJOY WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER. NOW I WATCH IT WITH MY TWO ELEVEN YEAR OLD GRANDSONS. THEY THINK IT'S A PRETTY NEAT MOVIE TOO.

  • SKANK AND GUTTER BOY RULE
    By AB17B70VDY186 on 2001-01-03
This movie not only has great cars, great revenge, great Clint Howard, It also has Skank and Gutterboy. Those two hooligans make me crack up every time I watch it. They are like the Abbot and Costello of the 80's revenge flick. Minty and Oggie look cool and Packard is down right scary. But make no mistake, it is Skank and Gutterboy who carry this screen gem.
